GothLoli's Clothes and the legacy Prince

Yeah! My Lover just got home from Japan today. He bought me the coolest goth coats ever. One is Drag Queen fabulous with a three foot train and sleeves that hit the floor. Yes, I'll take photos soon. My next Alter Ego shoot is coming up soon. I'll be sure to take some photos in the "JapGothRock" outfits for my LaMies. They call the goth girls GothLoli in Japan. They look like Dolls...really! Miles said they all talk with these cute little voices too. Can't wait to go over there! They'd LOVE us in all our Gothic Splendor. You hear that Fablo? Cali tour is first though! Mistress Mousey and I are getting impatient.

Fablo rocked the house last night, again. I'll grab some photos and post them. Lorraine will LOVE the blackwidow tights he gave me. Yeah! Balticon baby. Hey, if nothing else it's an excuse to sing and dress up. The rest is gravy or chocolate.. he hee
I LOVE PRINCE!

I'm listening to Prince tonight. Can I just say that he is such the music genius? Yes, he is! I WILL meet him someday. I modeled to his music for over 10 years. He inspired me to "shake it" like no other. I just love that little sexy man! (I wanted to wear his clothes and sing with him) No that they would fit me, amazon that I am. Prince covers...Hmmm. Well, he one of those musicians that you can't top so why bother. What do you think? It would give me a chance to dance though. LOVE TO DANCE. Fablo got a little taste of my dance-o-rama this last week. But, to get the full effect we MUST hit the clubs. LA clubs rock because you can wear ANYTHING and be cool. You can be drag queen fabulous or surf dude grunge and no one looks twice. hhhaaa. Can you see me in grunge? NOT EVEN! There's only one style for this LaMie.

GothLoli! I have a friend with all these GothLoli magazines imported from Japan; they have such a marvelous fashion scene. I could see you two being a big hit there.

hello & welcome home to mr G.
as for lil' Prince, you two Geminis would make four people in the room, and what a scene that would be!

Jen, T's make-up artist is doing a movie shoot at our corner bar, i am going to walk up and meet her in a few hours, wish Medium Cool was here...
hey Mimi, tell us about the GothLoli--shall we rename them: GothLOLOs ...?

GothLolo! I love it! That should stick!

GothLoli = short for "Gothic Lolita" (many japanese phrases are shortened to 4 syllables, 2 from the first and 2 from the second word) The point is to look like a gothed up victorian porcelain doll, mostly... And the MOTHER of gothic lolitas is, get this, a cross dressing GUY called Mana from the band Malice Mizer. He even has his own clothing brand store in Harajuku (unless it has closed down, I seem to remember hearing something about that but I'm not sure).

Just do a Google image search of "Mana Malice Mizer" and you'll know what I'm talking about.

First, HAPPY BIRTHDAY RAVYN!!!

Oooh, GothLolos! My childling, the Otaku, Japanese wannabe would probably find that interesting. WorldCon 2007 is in Japan and I was going to see if I could take her.

Prince! Oh, just LOVE Prince! I really love some of the sounds in "When Doves Cry". What a lovely piece. And Malena, sure you should cover his songs...you don't have to be "better"...you could just have a different interpretation, another twist. :-)

A three-foot train??? Oooooooooooooh..that definitely qualifies as "Drag Queen fabulous!"
Can't wait for the pictures.:)

Y'know, I've been listening to the new Prince album over and over for the last 3 days. How's that for funny synchronicity? *lol* I'm a Prince freak too..he's the best for gettin' your groove on.

Kitty, 2 Geminis in one room? Wouldn't that be an instant party?? It'd be better than television. *lol*

AND a Very Happy Birthday to Ms. Raven.:)

Augh trains. I am always convinced I would step on it (but maybe you fabulous ones have worked out how not to do that?)

I adore your hats in those pictures! Hmmm, maybe I need a new hat...

I keep coming up with costume ideas but all of them seem like they'll take an enormous amount of work.

I'd better get started.

Time! Drats!! I could make soo many cool things, but I don't have the time!

That is a really good link, Malena. My daughter is always sending me cosplay costumes from ebay that she wants. She liked the link too. Oh, and she has the "Death Note Journal" and has read alot of the Manga on which these costumes are based. I've made her a couple things. My daughter, however, isn't very feminine...she goes for the male costumes. She hates anything girlie and my corsets give her nightmares.

Happy Belated Birthday Ravyn!

Danth, What I do in a pinch is...buy a plain dress and embellish it. Add seed pearls, rhinestones, etc. Vintage shops always have great old gowns too.

Hey ladies, we should really think about playing a show together and share our fans. It could be a great night, with The Endless and Lorraine a' Malena together!

Malena, you could be dressed in rags (or even grunge, heh) in Tokyo and the locals would follow you everywhere just because you're an Amazon. If you dressed like you usually do out there, you'd give the locals heart murmurs. ;)

As for Prince covers, my boy did a good one (of "Controversy" - the best Prince song ever). I think the trick to covers is to make them your own. The best covers I've ever heard were clearly identifiable as the song that was covered, but there's no way you would mistake them for the originals (Siouxsie Sioux doing "This Wheel's on Fire" anyone?). Actually, my boy does pretty decent covers in general. I especially like it when he covered Madonna's "Express Yourself" and changed all the "him"s to "her"s, then added a bunch of samples from The Last Temptation of Christ. But then, I'm probably a little biased.

And MOG! You have to dress up as GothLolo and GothLena now and take lots of photos! (Maybe you could make an event out of it at BaltiCon and have EVERYONE join in the fun - GROUP PHOTO!)

P.S. Please to have a west coast tour someday. :D

At 12:22 PM , Blogger Fabulous Lorraine said...

I agree on the west coast thing. We must talk about the endless and LaM. Do either of you know a piano player?

Yes, we should have a gothloli day at Balticon. What a photo that would be. You all have such great ideas.

Mousey_What is your hubby's website? MORE INFO on your Rock Star Please! Am I the only one who doesn't know his greatness?

Thank you, everyone, for the HBD wishes :-)

Alas, Kitty, i have no cake stories, celebration was very low key in the Ravyn's roost. Carry out steaks from Longhorn (yummmmmmmm), and a little TV watching.

The big celebration is slated to take place the weekend *after* Balticon, for the three people in my family who have BDs ending in zero this year: My cousin (30), myself (40) and my dad (80). Most of the family will be there, and Vandaluna is staying after Balticon so she and her spawn can attend the party too. It will be a big thing indeed :-)

Ravyn: Happy Belated Birthday! Remember, life begins at 40. ;)

K: You don't really have a problem stepping on your own train. The problem is keeping everybody else from stepping on it.

At 8:00 PM , Blogger vandaluna said...

Yannow, I LOVE being 40. I don't think people would guess me at that age, and I think I get better the older I get.

Yeah...Ravyn's mysterious floating birthday party! Sha'right! Yannow? I already flew up to the area for it once. ;-) My spawnling has Ravyn's mother hoodwinked! It is waaay too funny!

(smacks forehead) Happy Belated B-Day Ravyn!

Mistress Malena - If I think of localish pianists, I'll let you know. I think my brain's on fluff-dry with the laundry right now. :) And the hubby's not so much a rock star as a person who was formerly a rock star, and then mostly in Brazil. His website is sorely lacking in any current info, mostly because there really isn't any, but should give you a better idea about him.

(picturing Danth in GothLoli gear)
(giggling uncontrollably)

Ariandalen: You haven't seen me try to walk in a dress with a train - I seem to spend the whole time stepping backwards or turning too quickly and winding it round my ankles!

But yeah, I know what you mean. I was once at a wedding where someone stepped on the bride's hem on the dancefloor and made her dress rip at the waist. She was very cool about it - just retreated to the lobby and got people to find pins and sort it out!

If I had your hair, Miss Mousey, I would show up GothLoli in a flat second. I would totally do it....

Hmm... I might need to look into extensions. Or would a wig be cheaper?

At 5:11 AM , Blogger vandaluna said...

Danth, I think you could do some pretty cool things with extensions. I don't know how difficult it would be to put them in, but I bought some Remy brand off ebay and they are VERY nice. I also notice the heating devices for putting them in are around $80.

At 11:23 AM , Blogger mistress mousey said...

Danth - I'm leaning toward getting you some hair falls and lots of barrettes to help clip them into little pony tails on top of your head. Totally GothLoli, and very little effort or expenditure (so you can fuss more over clothing options) ;P

(why am I suddenly so easily picturing you in hot pink? ugh, this is just wrong!)

At 1:17 PM , Blogger Fabulous Lorraine said...

Danth_You can find some great wigs on Ebay. http://stores.ebay.com/Hair-Me-Now

AND we will have all kinds of colorful pieces of hair to clip in at Balticon. "Fablo's Hair Flares"
available in green, red, blue and pink! Only $5 each! (Not enough to do your whole head though) You would be so cute! LOVE IT!

At 1:36 PM , Blogger ivenotime said...

Heating device? For extensions? Now I am confused, I thought they sorta braided in, or clipped in - is it glued? Another stupid question - can you comb your hair with them? I am very behind the times...

At 8:04 PM , Blogger vandaluna said...

ivenotime:
They can be glued and braided. Another technique is heat. The sections have a keratin bit at the top which, when heated, seals to your own hair near the base. You can comb through them, but you have to be a little careful.

Oh my gosh, "hair falls and lots of barrettes" -- I AM SO THERE!!

I have to go shopping this weekend...

This blog post is the #1 result when you google "gothloli clothes"!!

GothLena, can I get a pic of the white dress you're loaning me? Perhaps I can spend my money on gothloli accessories to wear with it rather than spending beaucoup on importing a dress or learning to sew.
