You Never Know When Rock Will Happen...
Ok, so I was going back over the photos from New Years Eve, and found this. Goes a long way to explaining a lot of things. I am thinking Venus had a WAY cooler time that we originally suspected. One to many catnips, perhaps???
Great gig tonight. I had gone off to it thinking there would most likely be not a whole lot of people coming out, New Years was a big thing on Wednesday, thinks me, who is coming back out????
Wrong!
Place was packed, including people who had been there on New Years! The Manager, Dapper AJ told me they had never got as much feedback for an event as they did on New Years. Phone calls, LETTERS even, saying what a great time it was.
Floored me.. Love it tho. We rocked the place. No other choice. I felt loved. I was flying. We did us some music. I made some WAY wrong promises.
There is NO possible way we can learn Bohemian Rhapsody by tomorrow night.
Sorry. I was swept away by the moment of it all.
I ran into my French Prof today at the post office, which was lovely, and I learned I would in fact, despite having no time, and being very far behind the class, be going back to class for the winter term. This next month until class starts is going to be all about me and Rosetta Stone and some Nathalie Skyping when ever we can manage it....
Love and Rock,
Lorraine
178 Comments:
That is fantastic Lorraine, you must be on a real high after such great feedback. *High Fives the Amazing Fabulous Lorraine* (and tickles Venus's tummy
You can do it, Q!
"I'm just a poor boy nobody loved me..."
Ok, it's 130 in the morning and all, but I'm going to play a couple of sections more of Tomb Raider. For... pain management. Yes. >_>
Oh, also, I was clicking around your list of links and saw that (dangerous link upcoming) Alter Ego corsets is selling some gorgeous all leather corsetry for 80-120$!
Now my mantra is, "I do not need a leather corset, I do not need a leather corset, I do not need..."
But Bohemian Rhapsody is such a simple tune! ;)
Marvelous that you had so much connection to the NYE attendees, and so much good feedback. A person could live off that for some days.
Did the kittehs have a secret stash of catnip they hit while you were out?
It does feel great! I am loving it, there is NOTHING much like making so many people so happy! And they were such a diverse group too, all sorts.
Now we need to learn this song, As well as the rest of Devil Went Down to Georgia...
Adri, spend the money on Bengals, due to a weird period in my life, I have a lot of leather corsets from Alter Ego, and they aren't me, I'll send you one if you like. They sure do look great on people who like them, but I just don't have a lot of call for them here...
There's a mall store here called Alter Ego, that I thought was the same. I kept wondering why I didn't see corsets in it - nothing like, I see. (This one is like Hot Topic but with mostly just the t-shirts.)
mmm corsets. i've always wanted a corset. one day i'll go get a fitting and get one.
how awesome that your gig's are rocking people:)
night fiends, i'm calling it a night, i have a 7am work call. ugh. luckily i can take this one from home.
Yay for awesome feedback! Letters, even! That's so cool.
Bohemian Rhapsody?? lol
Venus looks pretty well, er, baked.;) Cute picture.
Ooh, and Sally, I love the new hair.:)
Devil Went Down To Georgia!! The first concert I ever went to was to see Charlie Daniel's Band, in a picked cotton field at the Ravyille, Louisiana Pickin' and Ginnin' festival one hot summer night. That's doing it right.
So generous, Q! Let's email about measurements?
So you have not given up on the Skyping? That is wonderful news!
And OF COURSE you got loads of positive feedback on the gig.
Looking good Sally, by the way...
I got a hair cut too yesterday but that does not change me so dramtically, since it was already short.
(Oh, update on ways I've killed Lara the Tomb Raider since last comment: killed by giant boulder (x2), killed by falling rock, killed by falling off of rocks, killed by razor bladed booby traps, mauled by jaguar, drowned, mistimed jump (fell to death), and killed by nemesis archeologist. I think I'm going to start a blog just about killing Lara)
I DO want a corset. I only need to try and find my measuring tape (in view of the state my sewing drawing is in, it could take a few month of search and recovery).
I have to find one that I can put on my own...
Ok, done killing Lara for tonight.
I have a couple of fabric corsets that are lovely and just a shade too small these days, but I love wearing them!
If I spend money on bengals instead, though, the next project is turning our small balcony into a catio by screening it in and getting a sliding glass pet door, so they can go out into the fresh air without giving me a heart attack.
Lorraine - that's fabulous, about the feedback - but why so surprised? You ROCK!
(And Venus is her usual exquisite self..)
Nipped or sober, Venus has the most gorgeous tummy markings!
Glad for the great gig. It's good that you never know when rock will happen lest it be taken for granted, yeah?
Adri, your list of Lara death is starting to remind me of the Leonard Cohen song "Who by Fire" so now I must head off to listen to it before bed.
G'night Fiends.
Sounds like a great time, Q! So glad there was a crowd and that they were able to experience the Rock.
Coffee!
It's so, so awesome that the management recognizes just how hard you rock the house.
Sally! You look great! I go blond sometimes to. Love it.
Venus looks like a *very* good time was had - and that tongue rivals Gene Simmons'!
Hooray for the positive feedback, letters, etc. You *do* rock.
Nathalie - I have the same problem with trying to find things. If I could get more fabric turned into actual *things* instead of mountains of fabric, I'm sure I'd find things easier.
Corsets are soooo pretty, but I've never worn one. Something about being fond of being able to breathe seems to get in the way. :-D
I love corsets and need to find a good fabric one. We should have a corset night in June.
We who wish we could have been there to rock salute you, Ms. Fablo!! One of these days, dagnabit, I'm going to be there. I won't be drunk (this body doesn't do drinking past one, two on the outside) but I will be clapping and woo-hooing and the bartender will ask me to keep it down, miss. :-) And I love the picture of the partying kitty -- almost too much cuteness, you know?
Off to sing "He's just a poor boy from a poor family" all day. :-)
Oh, and before I forget -- I'm in tube heaven, yes, tube heaven. Happy, that kind of deep down happy that helps slide the surface stress away. Couldn't have it without you, Q, obviously. **thankful happy sigh**
You certainly deserve big crowds and rocking gigs, Ms. Fab.
New Year's was seriously spectacular. I hope the snow doesn't slow things down tonight, even if it prevents you from having to cover Queen. :P
When I asked to learn how to say "fiends have spicy brains" in my Swahili lesson, I was stared at like I had grown three extra heads.
She said she'd have to think about a translation. So we will see!
I am all for a corset night! They're actually not that hard to breathe in, if you lace them correctly and don't plan on running a mile. I love them, they're like an all-day hug.
I am corset-curious, but think Ren Faire costumes were enough. This is more my dress up style, if I could. :)
Morning all! Tea tea tea!!! Sleepy I am today. Too much rock for one week, I am thinking.
I am just not a corset girl, might change, but it doesn't work for me. Might be having done renn fest, home of some of the WORST corset looks going (look, of you are overweight, cramming yourself into a too small corset is NOT going to make you look proper weight. Shelf boobs. Shudder.)
But I like LOOKING at women in corsets, so go for it, ladies!
Adri, there is no fitting needed, I only have one size,I'll send one, if it fits it's yours, if not, ask the Fiends..No idea what size it is. Build the Bengal Balcony!!!!!
Glad yr happy Grace, wasn't me, I just saw your name on HIS list of additions, and asked him HEY! You know MY Fiend????
Oh, yes, he said Loftily, she is delightful, known her for years...
I did the sending tho. Only another 30 or so to go...
Last night was great. Tonight will be a problem, the owner is having her extended family in to see our show and have dinner, so I have to go, and I think I will be able to make it, but I don't think I will be able to get home until morning.
Of course, there are WORSE hotels to spend the night in, in room jacuzzi's post gig anyone????
It may go north tho...
More tea!!!!!!!!!!!
"I am corset curious" - well said, Na. I think a corset night in June would be great. Do we have any dayes for June, yet?
I really REALLY want to come, and if I start saving now I should be able to afford it. . . .
Watching BBC just now, waiting to see who will be the new dr who. . .

Good morning Quiche :-))
Oooh. It's Matt Smith
I don't know that I've seen him in anything except 'Ruby in the Smoke'
Check this out for Dr Who Marjorie..
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1741002/
That would be great if you could come, I'll get to work on exact dates right away! Gayle, what are the dates that's dont' work? ANyone have any conflicts in June?
Ah, you got it!
Morning Fiends! Okay -- it is afternoon I guess, but I have been easing into the day and it still feels like morning to me!
I am so so glad (but not at all surprised) that there is good feedback on the New Year's Eve show. It was wonderful and well worth my break with my typical home early NYE habit. I am also really glad (also not surprised) to hear that last night rocked! I am so pleased that that crowd fed you! Good luck tonight. When I first decided I'd be going out to Charlie's for NYE I looked into getting a room -- they look wonderful! One of these times I will make a weekend retreat there for sure!
I'd like very much to come in June! The weekend of 19-21 is a conflict for me (husband at a conference).
Have wanted to watch this Dr Who show, but why, oh why?!?! is it so expensive on DVD? Anyone know? There's naught so good as Netflix here.
I would prefer any time in the first three weeks, I have an important meeting at the end of June (not sure about the actual date because I am at home but I'll let you fiends know).
I am remiss in my greetings - Good Morning Q and Fiends!
I like your "easing into the day", Aleta. Me, too. Third day in a row. Cannot continue so...
omg, it's not Paterson Joseph? Noooooo. Oh well. I'm sure this extremely young, pretty person will be great.
El-- I'll ask my friend who taught Physics in Tanzania re: spicy brains in Swahili, it sounds like something she'd know. :D
The weekend of the 19th did not work for someone. Sorry but didn't note who.
Does anyone else have conflicts? We should maybe try to set the date soon so we can start planning and saving.
I guess it was you, Na. :)
I could probably come in June if we set a date! I need to plan a visit, anyway, though probably one before the summer.
Maybe me, Gayle, not sure. :) 'Morning!
Matokeo ya Utafutaji kwa.....
yes, the easing in will have to be abandoned... work on Monday, sadly. But tomorrow I shall treat myself to a lie-in. (got up early this morning to say goodbye to various siblings and parets, and to drive home myself.)
Q did you have inside knowledge about Dr Who, or was that a lucky guess?
Mrfle?
Some e-mailed me, actually a few minutes before you were wondering, he heard it in a Dr Who chat room from people who were watching in the UK...
Small world....
That's how rumours start...
*laughs* Everywhere I go online Doctor Who is the buzz! I nearly went out of my mind waiting, earlier.
Re: a Meet Up. June is my favorite month, as my birthday is the 17th and I choose to celebrate the entire month. A get-together would be wonderful.
My Swahili teacher is also a good friend and the mother of three small children. She has a translation waiting for me, we just forgot to work on it between snuggling the baby and making dinner. (I get east-african cultural lessons, too. I'm going to Kenya with her later this year as a nanny, hopefully.)
"Matokeo ya Utafutaji kwa" means, essentially, "search results for/are" which is what you get when you try to use Kamusi Project. Good try though. ;) I had the same idea myself, earlier.
Good almost-afternoon, fiends! I'm feeling SO much better today, thank Fod!
Gayle, I hope your friends are doing okay. Until this whole Prop 8 came down, I thought people were getting more used to the gay lifestyle. I feel like the hatred just went underground. :-(
My brain is still mushy, so I can't remember any of the comments I wanted to make. So, I'm just sending out a blanket of love...
I am so not surprised that the patron of Charlie's LOVED you Lorraisne, we all know you rock!
Oh, and I would love to come in June... Just not the 14-21st... I'm going on a cruise with my family.
And, am I the only Dr. Who fan that is traumatized every time they change the doctor? It always takes me a little while to get used to the new one...
Geez, I've opened the floodgates of FabLo commenting... Sorry if I'm being annoying...
so..where is this fiendish meet?
i'm a june baby too El :) i'm the 12th.
i am being haunted by a song, it's a good song, so i'm not bothered, but i hear it in stores, on the radio,on lastfm and my ipod..it's stalking me .
Fiends, I have to share with you how sad, desolate, and starving my cats are. They are telling me all about it so loudly I think they must be trying to communicate with the outside world about how mean I am.
Their food is defrosting in the sink and every time I go to refill my water Rocky looks up at me with huge eyes and goes, "waaaaaugh"
re: the Doctor-- this will be my first time experiencing a Doctor change as a fan. I started watching the show only last year. I LOVED 9th Doctor, of course love 10th... am looking forward to New New New Doctor as well. (I am shocked 11th Doctor is so YOUNG though)
Poor little hard done by pussycats!
How heartless of you.
My kitties have full sympathy (and stomach but not nearly as full as they'd like).
This will be the 7th Doctor change for me... And, I've seen many of the other Doctors in action... It's like losing a friend...
Fiends in LA, I would like to promote a 20 minutes film made by my NYC friend Kimberly Wetherell, called "why we wax" and which will be showing at the Egyptian Theatre (6712 Hollywood Blvd - Los Angeles, CA 90028) on January 7, 2009 @ 7:30pm (i.e. THIS Wednesday) as part of the American Cinematheque's 4th Annual Focus on Female Directors Screening Series!
It's a fun (and yet serious) movie (I saw it when I went to Amsterdam last November to meet Kimberly), so don't miss out on it.
< /pimping >
Bohemian Rhapsody---that's EASY! haha
i want you n' Paul to do this song, a murder ballad...
shown here performed by Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue...
Where the Wild Roses Grow...
see if you like it....i love love love the Nick Cave...
That's a great song, Kitty!
Household chores have been keeping me away from the computer today...taking down the tree, cleaning the whirlpool jets, entertaining a 4 yr old.
All of june is free for me after the 5th, that's ben's last day of preschool and they usually have a cute little graduation ceremony for the kids moving on to kindergarten :)
June Fiend Birthday bash! My bday is in just 9 days, i'm celebrating a few days late by going to SF for the weekend and seeing Jonathan Coulton! :)
Oh, bath cleaning cycle is done...bbl
I am always so glad to hear a gig went well! 'Tis indeed so easy to be swept into the depths of the moment.
I will not be around tonight -- am sleeping over at a friend's house for the first time since hospitalization. I am hoping nothing goes wrong or crazy. Fingers locked for a fun night of teenage-dom.
Enjoy yourself, Emily!
oh kitty, i love that song too:)nick cave is creepy and AWESOME! that whole album is ace.
i'm pretty close to having my courage to go chop my hair off. i've even put my eyes in so i can see what's going on. (contacts, normally i wear glasses)
Chantrelle-- so jealous about Jonathan. He never comes to Texas, but I've seen him in Chicago (and I helped produce a Second Life show for him). His shows are the BEST. so much fun, and he's a great guy.
excellent song, Kitty Cat (and thank you for the saucers, which I was able to pick up from the post office today *Happy Bounce*)
Gayle, meant to say before, I hope your friends are OK, and that they feel able to make a complaint about the lack of actionby the police, so that if that was down to bigoted attictudes by the cops that can be addressed.
Vampi - good luck with the hair. I always forget to swap spcs for contacts before getting mine done, so spend the whole time in an agony of suspence becausw I can't see what they're doing. . .
I don't have any dates to avoid in June, BTW.
Bleughh. it's only 9 o'clock but my brain has gone into melt down. No spiciness at all. Neeed sleep. I blame last night's Pirates
G'night all
Kitty, that is my favorite Nick Cave song - and I LOVE the film clip. Two brilliant Aussie performers of course.
Vampi, if you have to be haunted by anyone - David Bowie is pretty good.
New Doctor. We'll see. I grew up watching Dr Who, so the change thing is part of it but oh, I will miss DT.
Oh, and they are both from Melbourne.
yes. will miss DT so much. but then i wasn't sure if I was going to carry on watching when Chris Eccleston left, so I have Hope... (any anyway, we get 3 more DT specials, and a year to get used to the idea)
Really am going to bed now
Kitty, that is a good song, now I have to go and dig to find my copy of Murder Ballads :) I forgot how beautiful that cd was.
Great music Vampi and Kitty! Thanks for sharing.
I really loved Eccleston, too. ::sigh::
I just had a thought... A webcam should be set up in June, for all of the fiends who can't be there. If AFP can do it, surely we can too???
Re: June - I'm close enough that I can make it work whenever - are we looking strictly at weekends, or can we do mid-week?
And, Sally - love the look. Q's right - you look 21
SO much to catch up on!
It's RAINING here. How does that work????? In December? Which is good as it means the roads will not be covered in snow. Just ice.
Hmmph!
I Wii'd today! Wii Fit is THE best, despite the fact that it thinks I am 58 and OBESE!!!!!!!
We'll just have to work on that.....
Uh, that was me. Didn't notice Holly had been using my computer, surprised me it did!
What a busy bunch of Fiends...sooooo many links to explore and enjoy!
Not so happy re Dr. Who, however. I was really hoping for Paterson Joseph or Chewiee. This fellow (at first glance, anyway, which is of course not entirely fair) appears to be from a similar mould. Oh, well, as long as the stories are good....
Great Kudos to you and Paul, Lorraine. I say it too often, but will say it again anyway: Proud Of You (and Not at All Surprised :))
HOLLY!!!!!!!!!!! my FlutterBy Friend...
I thought we had a new Fiend on our hands :) I guess Holly is a fiend by association already!
I love Nick Cave...another one of his collaborations i love is with PJ Harvey. I adore her as well. Thanks for the ear candy Kitty! Oh, and the poster got here during christmas madness, thanks for working so hard to get those out!!! Love it! Now i have a huge pile of stuff to get framed. That, the sandman 20 anniv. poster from comicon, a flight of the conchords poster and my family tree that my great grandfather wrote out entirely in russian...it's amazing. I got it when my grandpa passed away--i claimed dibs since i translated it in college when i was taking russian :)
I want a Wii but it goes against everything my injured wrists believe in unfortunately.
Hey, maybe Holly can do a 'ghost post' like her little sister!
Heh, if a haircut and colour can take 25 years off my age, I'm on a good thing!
Lorraine, that reminds me of when I first used Brain Training. I was NOT impressed at the age it said I was. Phht.
Lys, I was hoping it would be PJ too, or a woman.
Off to my gig, will see you later tonight unless, I stay over in Stillwater, but it looks like a lot of ta-ra about nothing.....
rock out Q!!!!
I am presently just down the street at Starbucks in Stillwater and I shall be there tonight. Looking forward to it! It is totally okay that you don't know Bohemian Rhapsody. Don't know if you'll check this but I'd like to take some pictures tonight for the new version of your web site I'm working on. Hope that's okay. Anyway, see you tonight!
Wickedly Yours
oh i'm somewhat undecided about this young upstart doctor. his neck is giraffe like and his eyes disappear.
rock out tonight :)
HOW did I not comment on this? I got back from grocery shopping, and couldn't imagine that fiends were silent for the entire afternoon.
And of course, you weren't. :)
De-lurking for a bit (un-lurking?) just to say that it'll be a bit weird to have someone younger than I am play the Doctor, but am keeping an open mind. And also to say that I quite enjoy reading the posts and comments here :)
*hides again*
oh annie, you broke the seal, there is no returning to lurking. surely you must have noticed we don't allow that here :) we don't bite...much.
harking back to the corset discussion, i just ordered showtime and got sucked into the tudors. those bodice dresses are quite stunning. i must say, i'm quite jealous of whatever architecture is hidden under those dressed to get that resulting bossum. i t=do think anne boleyn is smuggling cupcakes.

not sure why blogger double posted. how odd.
this henry guy was such an awful person. they made him very unsympathetic in this series. althought he is easy on the eyes. i missed the first season, so i'm a little lost as to who the characters are. they all look a bit a like in their frilly collars.
You've de-lurked now Annie, the deed is done.
Fiends, I am enjoying real sunshine again...actually feels like summer once more. Hoorah.
Ya know, Sally, some of us just don't want to hear about summer right now... :)
Hi Annie, welcome! Are your brains spicy?
I am apparently not even ambitious enough to goof off this evening. I intended to bake and play computer games, and haven't done anything other than random online stuff and solitaire. Kind of sad, really.
Well, we haven't had much summer yet, so its nice to know this week will be warm (yup, rubbing it in)
Harumph. The reason I have a hundred-pound dog is so that my feet don't freeze this time of year!
Put it this way Phiala, I've ahd to wear winter PJ's the last few nights. Does that make you feel a little better?
Well, I'd rather have to wear winter PJs in the summer than be too hot to sleep, but I suppose I see your point. :)
But ya know, this coming from someone who didn't know car doors could freeze... *grin*
So is there any way to convince last.fm that I DON'T want to listen to Christmas music any more???
Vampi--uh, you DO know that the Tudors tv series is a bunch of rot, right? Even if Jonathan Rhys Meyers couldn't be kicked out of bed for eating crackers, or anything else (I'd ask him what brand he preferred :)) Velvet Goldmine is...um....drool-inspiring..
well yes, it's utter cack, but he is awfully pretty. i do like the pretty clothes too. the girl playing anne has a very odd face. i'm just ignoring her and looking at the pretty boys. it's a nice distraction
Phiala--only when they've been marinated ;)
Oh, good answer! :)
Sal; love the hair you Aussie foxy Sheila!
Bohemian Rhapsody? It's hard enough to sing let alone play! Rock on Sweet Sister! (That's my other favorite Queen song. Freddie; he hadz the skillz...
Vampi; I'm the 13th! Whoot for June babies. Love the Kooks song though; thanks for sharing. I've often felt psychic about songs; It never fails that I buy the song somewhere that I haven't heard in ages; listen to it then all the sudden; turn the radio on and there it is! Or *Fod forbid* the elevator!
What exactly is a "Dr. Who?" and why is there such hooplah about him? The actor looks a bit like Sid Vicious; no?
Oh, burning the pie crust would be a BAD way to start the project!
But I didn't. :)
And I wouldn't bother expanding, except this may well be comment 100...
Stacy, you didn't just seriously ask what a Dr Who was, did you?
I'm delusional, right?
Where have you been for the past 42 years???
:)
Well; I've been right here. But apparently here isn't the same place as all of you. So; ya; seriously; is this a comic book thing?
and just so's you know; I didn't know who Neil Gaiman was much before two years ago. But that's a long and tragic tale of unrequited love; requited love and immediate, permanent loss. But this isn't my blog so it's not appropriate to elaborate.
It's a BBC tv series, and really is over 40 years old. I grew up watching it on PBS. It died out for a while, and then was resurrected. I'm watching the first new season right now, with Christopher Eccleston as the 900-year old Time Lord, bopping thru time and space in his TARDIS. The Daleks are the traditional opponents, but in a career spanning all time and space there are all sorts of villains.
Tom Baker is the true Doctor, though. *grin*
The old series had the cheesy BBC effects characteristic of the time period, though some of the plots were excellent (Douglas Adams wrote some, for example). The new ones have better effects, but I have a great fondness for the old BBC show.
Most of it is available on DVD, but some of the earliest episodes are lost until someone invents a TARDIS.
That sounds like quite a tale...
But really Doctor Who is famouser than Neil Gaiman. (And I am a complete pop culture dork - I couldn't name anything on TV or radio at the moment! I only know the kind of stuff that was on public tv in the 1970s. I wasn't picking on you so much as completely flabbergasted that I knew something about pop culture that anyone else didn't know!)
Oh my dear Stacy....in a gentle voice
This is a two thirds of the globe thing (minimum.) This is decades of Daleks and 18 foot long multicoloured scarves and British police call booths that are infinitely larger on the inside than out. Ten different actors continuing the same role.
Guinness Record: the longest-running science fiction television show in the world (first appeared in November 1963. Of course, we were a little busy that month in the US...)
Right. Your unfamiliarity is totally reasonable. NOT a requirement for being a Fiend or my friendship (and presumably same is true of all Fiends, but hate to speak for them :) )
Just...um....a little surprising. But then, what an opportunity for discovery!
Er, yeah, what Lys said!
And add to that in my little country town where I grew up we only had 2 tv stations, and Dr Who was on every night and watched religiously even though, as a child of the 60's it often scared me shitless. To think that those special effects we had were enough to scare a child shitless, compared with today's special effects. *sigh*
not to worry; i'm not thinking my fiend card will be yanked. I'm happy to have this explained. Makes sense now; it's a TV thing; not only TV but BBC TV. I get it; cool.
The only series I was watching back then was Star Trek &, well; I'm too ashamed to admit the others. I suppose Benny Hill doesn't count? I didn't discover BBC programming until I was in my late teens; after that; stopped watching TV all together.
Should have said this earlier but I would love to see-hear the Paul and Lorraine version of Bohemian Rhapsody!
Welcome Annie. This is a great spot to get your brains marinated!
I need to get caught up on Dr. Who. I have seen several of the new eps and I love it, but I really want to watch it straight through. I also watched it on PBS in the 70s. Ahhhh the good old days!
Seek! Locate! EXTERMINATE!!
I grew up waaaay out in the country, and we only got two tv channels. I watched all sorts of things on PBS, most especially Doctor Who. I never watched Star Trek; it was on one of those other stations. (Seriously. Two channels. And one of those not very well.)
It was never the same after Tristan Farnon became the Doctor. That just wasn't right! (Only other BBC/PBS junkies will get that one, I expect.)
What's funny is I kept thinking you guys were talking about the character in Bond (Dr. No) thinking to myself; "Oh, must be a take off?" LOLOLOLOL
ah, Benny Hill counts! A little of him went a very long way for me...but still.
The thing about Dr. Who is that fans turned up in places that didn't even have tv. Such a pop culture phenom, and exported....probably because of the vivid, larger than life personalities of SOME of the early Doctors (yes to whomever said TOM BAKER!) and universally recognized villains.
So it is quite simple; you somehow avoided infection at the time....due to your Star Trek inoculation (wonder why mine didn't take?)and now, like some of us who caught Chicken Pox as adults, can resist or be assimilated....er....I mean...choose to enjoy what you wish now. :)
I didn't have access to english speaking tv until the mid 70's....but somehow Star Trek was shown in Germany, on Stars and Stripes broadcasting, the first year we had it :)
And to flip back to Aleta's comment:
ME TOO on the Bohemian Rhapsody! waaaaaahhhh.....
Phiala -SNAP. Same, same same!
Yeah, Tristan as Dr Who didn't get me in. He was a vet, for gawd's sake, and I could never see him as anything else.
Sally, yes! Fiends understand! :)
I know *about* Dr. Who and have for a number of years, but have not actually ever watched it, for various and sundry reasons. Perhaps one of these days...
I hope our Fabulous Q is rocking tonight, not too tired out, and not endangering herself on ice-covered roads!!
My old cat has decided that he will be sleeping at least part-time in small dog's bed. Small dog is too afraid to do anything about it, but she is lying several feet away, glaring. Not at the cat, but at us, because we aren't doing anything but laughing at how funny this is. :-)
BA--I had to stop laughing before I could comment. The dog just didn't realize the bed was only borrowed until the cat wanted it. As the cat IS the rightfully owner of everything. No, not "everything in the house." But EVERYTHING. :)
Cats run the world...and own the world, of course!
Getting ready to watch Spirited Away with ben :) Popcorn, movie, yay!
So it looks like the weekend of the 12th and the weekend of the 26th of June both look good for us.
I hope the show is going well!
Oh, and, Annie. You are here now. There is no turning back. Mmmwwwahaha.
Good grief...Spend a day with family, exchanging silly gifts (including a brass nose!) and there are 300+ fiend comments when I get a chance to catch up.
Let's see... No idea if I could make Minnesota in June, but the weekend of the 6th is DDs graduation, and thus right out.
Gayle, my thoughts of light, healing and solace in law for your friend and his friend.
Q...rock the house again and stay safe.
Radical hair, Sally...you look great.
Need to sleep. Know there was more to say, but it's gone....
what airport would a fiend be looking at for flight information?
Minneapolis/St Paul airport, Vampi.
KITTY BELLY!!!!!
Okay. I'll settle down and read all the comments now. ;)
I may have a friend or two that would be willing to sit on Fiend offspring that weekend. If anyone wants to bring kids but also wants to party. I have a great friend who is a Nanny and watches M regularly when I am in school. Just in case that would make a difference in whether someone was able to attend or not.
I've just finished watching "The Eleventh Doctor", which was a blast going back through them all and I have to say, I think Matt Smith will be wonderful in the role. They showed a few of the things I have seen him in - he is a great actor.
Dr. Who Christmas Specials, 11th Doctor..
What is this stuff that MY tv doesn't seem to get?
sigh..
I can't be there June 5-7th, daughters' dance recital weekend.
Sue can't be there the weekend of the 19th. She has a conference. It's also Father's Day on the 21st.
Still reading comments.
oh ariandalen has a nice surprise waiting...
Stacy and BA, I am relieved to know I am not the only fiend, or perhaps person on the planet, who's not seen Doctor Who. I'd heard of the show many times, but somehow managed never to see it except for a few random episodes in recent years. For crying out loud, I even have the 45 for the Timelords' "Doctorin' the TARDIS." (Loved the song.)
I am thinking that maybe the weekend of the 26th - 28th is a good one. It's pride here then too so anyone who wants to can go to the parade. :)
keep going, ariandalen...
I CANNOT be there on the weekend of the 12-14th...WAH! Cruise leaves Sunday at noon.
And I'm pretty sure I've said before that "All Creatures Great and Small" does NOT a Doctor Who make. Ack, what a mistake that was! Tristan Farnon, indeed!
;-D
pride parade and corsets, hmm
I meant - those things might go well together. :)
Someday I may yet learn to put all my thoughts into one comment.
Maybe tomorrow.
Okay, I posted without previewing... The weekend of the 27-28 sounds great for me. And Na paints a pretty picture. I don't think I would ever go out in public wearing a corset, but never say never.
I am liking the weekend of the 26th. We will have to see what the Empress has going on then. Corsets and Pride sounds good to me too! Although I did that many years ago and I think everyone thought I was a drag-queen. :) Big boobs and big hair!
Now Gayle's painting a pretty picture!
Stacy, I was a little worried there for a bit. I was about to ask if you know about Star Trek. Whew!
Still wouldn't have been reason to revoke Fiend card. ;)
I still think it would have been nice to see more than a movie with Paul McGann as the Doctor.
Annie! Welcome! No more lurking. I spy you with my fiendish eye...
Hee
Hee hee
Hee hee hee hee hee

Ha! I am getting excited for our party. I want to plan everything right now. :) I suppose it's not my party and I should shut up till Q gets back!!!
That's okay, Gayle. ;)
I'm sure our Queen Empress will understand. ::Big Grin::
Kali, yes I'm a Facebook holdout. As I said on one of the New Year's Eve posts, I'm on enough social networking sites, including Tribe, that I really don't feel compelled to join another. Even if there are Fabulous pictures.
:)
Paul McGann sure was pretty, though! ;-)
Well, as my nice dark corner seems to have disappeared on me, I guess I am officially un-lurked. De-lurked. Er, yeah.
:)
welcome to fiendom annie:) it's a pretty rad place.
So I see! Corsets, kittens and Timelords....definitely not dull :)
ariandalen;
I don't blame you. I am actually not on ANY social networking site of any kind, other than FB and...well...*this* :)
It is proving quite a challenge, as Friends reconnect me with Friends who reconnect me with Friends. Got a FB message from someone after my name popped up on a mutual friend's "wall" as a new Friend...... haven't talked to her in YEARS!!! Decades even. I'm enjoying this part.
Used to have very social jobs, or jobs in very social industries (such as the book industry) Obviously not lately! So there is a lot of catching up to do, and now that I'm older, more crotchety and even more paranoid.....FB is allowing me some control of that.
Okay, advertising done!
Hah!! Everyone, onna count of three:
Wan....Tooooooooo....Freeee!!!
Flashlights on Annie!
Hee hee. Flashlight on!!
I have enjoyed connecting with old friends and new Fiends on Facebook. Everyone in one place make my online time more productive.
i'm just relieved to know that i have had my shots.
Na; LOLOLOLOL
Um....Eep?
I got a friend request today from my first college roommate. She was great. She honestly believed jim morrison was alive and living in africa. But she really wasn't nuts! ;-)
She was also cousins w/ my teenage love, now i know he just had a baby girl, i'm really curious to know what he's doing these days (besides that!)
FB can be cool...and evil...bad friend requests happen too!
Bad "friend" requests DO happen too. And there are a few people I have as friends that I am watching closely. :) But "un-friending" is easy too.
No need to eep, Annie! It's our special way of welcoming you. Could be worse (has Ariandalen inquired regarding the spiciness of your brains yet? I kinda lost track of some of the comments there....;))
Welcome Annie!
OK, I suppose I should go to bed or something. Night Fiends! Sweet dream.
I didn't have to ask about spicy brains. Somebody beat me to it.
:P
But...
::sniff::
::SNIIIIFFFFF::
Yep.
SPICY!
Spicy brains....do I dare ask how that started?
And, thanks for the welcome, all :)
Anyone heard from Quiche?
Eska vou vou, Annie!
Stacy - I am reminded, I meant to look for you on fb, I know you're there! Yes, facebook, evil in a wonderful way, it can be.
It's still a bit early for Ms. Fabulous to be home from gig. Assuming, that is, the weather is cooperating.
We ought to know in about 20 minutes or so, judging by when she posted last night.
Yes, Queen Empress. We know you're listening.
CX
didn't quiche say she might stay over night after the gig?
Not sure what to think of the new Doctor..I was really pulling for Paterson Joseph. We'll see.
Oooh Kitty good song!:)
And Chanterelle, PJ Harvey! Love her.
*waves to Annie*
Welcome to the Fiendom, we have cookies and spicy brains and Bengals oh my,;)
She said it would depend on the weather.
Annie, I can smell your spicy brains.
yer, but we don't eat Bengals.
ROFL, ariandalen!!!! OMF I am sharing that with everyone I know.
Ok, so I am just home after a somewhat harrowing drive, and the first comment I see is " we don't eat Bengals" WHAT have you all been talking about??????????
Off to read then do new post for most of you to wake up on...
Well, hell, Ms. Fabulous. You should know by now that I'm involved.
(typed as I sit here giggling quietly) ;)
So glad to know you're home, was concerned about that ice!
Sorry the drive was so bad. I am glad you are safely home.
Sorry, Q! I was referring to
"Welcome to the Fiendom, we have cookies and spicy brains and Bengals oh my,;)"
Glad you've made it home okay!
Look at you all! A new Fiend already ensconced! Welcome Annie, I hope you will be very happy here!
And I have NO idea where the spicy brains thing started. I just write here....
Lots of news, off to post...
Doesn't look like anyone is up or around, tis kind of late, but the new post is up, if you are.....
