Welcome 2009!!!!!!!

I thought I should hop on and do a quick New Year's Day post, before slowly melting into my couch. Last night, and indeed the entire Fiends Around The World New Years Eve Bash was simply the best New Years Eve Party EVER!!!!!!!!!

I added up the comments, starting at midnight in New Zealand, and ending this afternoon all over the place...Get read for this....

Six-Hundred and Six Comments, in about 36 hours!!!!!!

Now, that, My Fiends, is a Party!!!!!

Thank you for being a part of it!

(And thank you new de-lurker, Moon in the Gutter! Come out again! Sorry, Dabbler, you are a Fiend now, not a recently de-lurked, doesn't take long...Does it?)

And Thank you for the Best New Years Ever, Ever!!!!!!

I was going to post some pics of the Fiends at the gig last night, only to realize, Aleta, Gayle, El and friends, that I got the rest of the pub, but, uh, not you. Well, Gayle and Aleta took enough for anyone, and I hear they are all over the place. Cool.

Magic came out several times today for play, Lear let me pet him for a moment, (Yes, there was Tuna involved) before turning to the Little Queen's plate, for seconds, Venus keeps bringing me Feather sticks, she has four now on the couch with me, but I think it is Mim who has got New Years Day DOWN.....

Yes. Of course the Bengals sleep on Mink. Duh!

Love and Lazy New Years Day,
Lorraine

Perfect Mim - wish I had something as soft and cuddly as the mink to sleep on. Post your photos too Lorraine, the more the better!

It truly was a great way to spend NYE and NYday

At 4:50 PM , Blogger Adri said...

We Fiends sure are a chatty bunch!

At 4:53 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

It was pretty amazing! Total world party, with people going off to sleep, and coming back and New Years coming in all around the world!!!!

Next party, we podcast as well. Maybe St Pats? It IS generally a 12 hour gig...

At 4:54 PM , Blogger Dragonsally said...

that would be brilliant

At 4:57 PM , Blogger EmilyLady said...

The Fiend party was indeed magnificent -- Happy New Year to you and Magic and Boss and all!

At 4:59 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Would, wouldn't it?

Say, we haven't heard from El yet today...And none of the Fiends at the show should be feeling any worse for the wear today, all being moderate drinkers...

How many of you are still in PJ's? Hee-hee....

At 5:10 PM , Blogger Yoopergurl said...

a little late with the Happy New Year wishes from here, work and sleep kept me away. I'll plan for next year.

At 5:15 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Here!

But..

I guess you could call it moderation....spread carefully over MANY hours :) Oh, you mean the Fiends AT the gig! hehehe.

On the other coast, wonder if Val is feeling less murderous yet.

Yes to St. Patrick's Day! Can't think of anything else I'd rather do! Pretty sure there isn't exactly going to be a Sesiun got up in this town.

At 5:16 PM , Blogger ariandalen said...

Well...I'm just got out of pajamas around 5 PM (CST). I haven't done much at all today, not even cooking/preparing a meal. I have washed some dishes, and will probably change out the dishwasher after a while.

Mim seems to own the mink coat. I don't think I would try to move her. Ms. Fabulous, you may have more luck, assuming you want her moved. ;)

Webcast! St. Patrick's Day! COOL!!

At 5:22 PM , Blogger Adri said...

I'm in slouchy jeans and a t-shirt, but only because I had to go to the grocery.

...couldn't resist buying more bubbly wine. It was on /sale/

At 5:24 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Mim loves my coats. And shoes. She got a Thing for a velvet jeans jacks and would sleep on it where ever it was, and if it was on a chair, she would take it down. It now lives in her cat bed, along with a pullover...

It' never too late for Happy New Year, Fur!!!!! Glad to see you anytime!

I don't drink, so I didn't have that problem today, but gigs take it OUT of you, and I have two more to go.

I too, wonder how Dread Val is doing? When last heard she was going to kill a snoring person, find out about crashing bottles, and drink coffee and Gatorade...

I loved the way she worked her way west this morning....And she has certainly seemed to have done a FINE job as designated drinker for me!

At 5:24 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

And why not Adri!

I got dressed too to shovel and go to store, but it's sweats all the way..

At 5:38 PM , Blogger ariandalen said...

Adri, if you missed it last night, mix pomegranate juice with champagne. Wonderful stuff, silky and smooth. :) Better than a regular Mimosa.

At 5:41 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

almost like the classic Kir Royale (Kir--red currant liquor--with champagne) Talk about silky! :)

Yes, if there is a way to add alcohol to alcohol, I probably know it.

At 5:47 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I thought Kir Royal was Chambord with Champers?????

At 5:49 PM , Blogger vampi said...

Did I, uh, hear my name being called?

Hah, no, I kid. I am in the land of the living, and I even put some photos of the party on facebook. There's one of you, Q, that makes me smile every time. Your purple crown was pretty perfect. :)

I've done a grand total of nothing today, but as I have tomorrow off too I don't feel too awful about it.

ariendalen- I love mixing mimosas with different juices! My favorite so far has been pear nectar, but I haven't tried pomegranate mimosas yet.

Happy new year!

Pama (pomegranate liquor) and champagne. Um, yes please!

Hi there. :) Full day with M. Who will hopefully sleep now. And making food. I posted at the end of the last. Can't seem to construct a full sentence. :P

Hope you all are having a wonderful beginning to the New Year.

At 5:56 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

There's El! Hi El!

I must see these photos, I'd forgotten I sure did have a purple crown!!!!!

Hi Vampi, saw you Ugg comment, and I agree....

I have become She Who Wields The Feather Stick with out ceasing...Wonder if it counts as a workout...

I've been going from room to room today playing feather stick with three sets of Bengals...

(you lot only think my life is exciting...)

At 5:57 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Did M wake VERY early Gayle???? Glad you had the day with him!

At 6:01 PM , Blogger Adri said...

Ooooh! Pom juice here I come!

I'm currently playing tomb raider-- piloting Ms Croft around feels productive. She is so very strong and decisive. :D

At 6:01 PM , Blogger Siri said...

El, I don't see your pictures on Facebook - I see gayle's and Aleta's, but not yours...could it be we aren't friends there?

sob

Pear Nectar!! What a GREAT idea.

Okay, my bad....Kir is Black Currant, not red. For a truly enticing googlecation on the different versions (and in France, you CAN ask for blackberry-Chambord- or peche/peach) please see HERE
I foresee a new toasting series for next NYE.

Cool to see the David pics, thanks Vampi. I see the present owner (same guy?) no longer paints them in exceedingly bright colours and suggestive patterns.... :)

At 6:03 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Room to room Bengal Feather Stick service sounds like a heck of a lot more exercise than I've had in the last 24 hours, I'll tell you that!

At 6:04 PM , Blogger Dragonsally said...

You stole m sentence Siri...El, can we friend you on there?

At 6:06 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Of COURSE yo know the Cray David house, Lys, why am I surprised???

Hurrah for Tomb Raider!

At 6:10 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

That is SUCH am amazingly freaking wonderful magic photo I stole it and added it to tonight's post!!!!!!

Thanks El!!!!!!!!!

(now you don't need to be her friend to see it, but be her friend anyway, she rocks!)

At 6:10 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Siri- It may be! That is a tragedy and we must fix it!

I welcome all sorts of friends on facebook, but I don't have everyone's full names... you can find me through Gayle and Aleta, (my full name is Ellyn and my last name starts with a G) or you can email me if you want at evabluedream at gmail dot com.

(I apologize for the cryptic avoidance of names. I am a little leery about full names and the internets... my mother taught me well, I guess! I know all the fiends are safe, but you never know who's watching... *paranoia*)

(Can I get any more parenthetical? Jeez.)

I would love to have more fiends on facebook, though!

At 6:12 PM , Blogger vampi said...

oh he used to paint them? i'm so sad i've missed that.

yes repeat featherstick may be tiring...but think how feather stick is bringing out the fun and joy in certain kitties...

At 6:14 PM , Blogger AletaMay said...

That photo is amazing. You look like transcendence personified!

At 6:19 PM , Blogger Dragonsally said...

El, you must have your name set under supersluth status, its not appearing that I can see in Aleta or Gayle's list...which leads me to say, Aleta or Gayle - could you recomend El as a friend for me and Siri at FB please? Or El, you could grab my name from their list, Its easy to find me - same user pic there

At 6:23 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ah, yes, I forgot about that. I am sneaky!

I've changed the setting, so people should be able to see me. Sally, I'll add you right this minute and that will take care of it! :)

At 6:24 PM , Blogger Adri said...

I want to be facebook friends with Fiends!

You can search for me via my email address: persephone451 (at) gmail (dot) com I think. Just include in your friends request that you are a fiend! :D

At 6:34 PM , Blogger Dragonsally said...

Just added you Adri

At 6:35 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

If anyone wants to be my friend and isn't, add me but send a message, as I don't know all the names...

I can generally figure it out from who you are friends with, but I am kind of picky, I don't add everyone who wants to be my friend.

Fiends to, are SO A list!!!!!!!!!!

At 6:42 PM , Blogger Adri said...

Yay! I'm going on a Fiend-friending spree!

Q-- I added you but forgot to send a note (thus breaking my own rule, 'cause I don't add people who randomly friend me, either.) You can see my leopard tattoo in my userpic, though.

At 6:43 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Vampi--there was much uproar...imagine er, delicate portions of the anatomy painted fuschia and hot pink. hehehehe.

But that was in the 80's , I THINK. It all runs together. :)

Lorraine--leftover (hangover?) from all those SoCal years. If it was interesting, odd or just differently cool; we were all over it. 25 years ago I was married in the pool area of Here (pictures 4 through 12)

Okay....I'll stop living in flashback now...

At 6:52 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

OKAY!!!!

I did it.

I registered for Facebook. And, even though I'd never registered before, there were already two people popping up as "friend requests".

And they weren't even Fiends?
One was a friend from my first Iraq tour, of whom I'd lost track.

Maybe this wasn't such a bad idea, after all!

At 6:54 PM , Blogger Siri said...

LYS!!! WooT!!!!
Find me slg6734atmsndotcom

At 6:55 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Adri, I'd add ANYONE with a Leopard tattoo!

(I'm getting my first Leopard, Venus of course, in a couple months from Hannah at Kat Von D's shop in LA!)

Yea Lys! Facebook is too much time and too much fun! Just so you know tho, I don't do the sending Things, drinks, plants whatever...No time..

At 6:59 PM , Blogger Adri said...

Lys-- that means they put your email address in to try to find you at some point, I think.

Facebook is tons of fun. I've connected with some of my old scouting friends, and it's a really great way to keep up with my family on a daily basis, too. I find most of the applications pretty annoying, but they're easy to ignore.

re: tattoos-- I need to have the rest of mine finished out. I'm going to do a shoulder cap with cat and technology symbolism.

At 7:05 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Okay, adding Adri was easy (thanks!!)
And through her I was able to send friend requests to Siri and Sally.

Help me out here please!

At 7:05 PM , Blogger Dragonsally said...

I'm out of the habit of all that stuff on FB now too Quiche, except for a select few things, but even then I rarely do them now. (did that sound circular, or is it me?)

At 7:07 PM , Blogger Dragonsally said...

You should have got a 'thingie' from me with just about everyone on it Lys.

At 7:09 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Obviously my motivation was largely the pics....so if someone already connected can help me friend Aleta n Gayle....it would be great!

Thanks for the support, Lorraine and Siri \0/

At 7:13 PM , Blogger Siri said...

Lys, if you go to my page, (click on my picture) you should be able to see my friends, and click on their names to add them...I think.

But Sally may have already hooked you up!

Off to bed, Fiendom - I have to work tomorrow. grrr.

At 7:15 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

How come Lys doesn't want to be MY friend??????

At 7:16 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Apologies for being so slow...Angus has taken possession of my left arm.

Thanks for the welcomes on walls!!

Swimming through the sea of info, I found and requested Gayle.

Progress ;)

At 7:19 PM , Blogger gaypet said...

I don't do plants and what-not on Facebook either. Just not enough time to work it all out. Sure do like having so many Fiends there now tho!!

OK, I really must get a few things done now that M is asleep. He (did I say this already?) slept till 9:30 but we have to get up at 5 tomorrow so...

Night all.

At 7:21 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

oh my Fabulous Friend!--I can't FIND you!

At 7:21 PM , Blogger Siri said...

I think I just sent Lo to you Lys....

At 7:22 PM , Blogger vampi said...

i like the flair and superpoke applications, i stopped with all of the others. some are cute for a while but get boring and become a time sink. facebook has a nice ignore all feature i click every so often to delete them.

At 7:26 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I found Lorraine! on Sally's page.

At 7:28 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

At 8:04 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Not for long Adrindalen! MMmwwhahahah!

Lys, what it does is send a friend request from me to them, saying Hey look! LYs is cool, be her friend! They have to accept you....

One thinks it's likely...But they aren't on ALL the time, will take a couple days I am thinking.

At 8:23 PM , Blogger Ticia said...

I just found Lys and El on facebook. I, too, avoid most of the apps, except flair, and I just HAD to find out what Buffy the Vampire Slayer character I was - w00t I was Angel, and my guy was Buffy. Love it.

Deeply impressed with the number of comments we chalked up yestereve!

Wishing for kitties. We spent part of the evening with neighbors who have three cats (two are rescues, t'other an adopted stray \o/ ). Three of four people in our home really want kittehs. The other shall become amenable, mwaahahaha.

At 8:32 PM , Blogger Na said...

Oh duh! Yes, found you, too Adri! Do you still have purple hair?

At 8:37 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Purple hair is a better idea than one might think at first...

Says Q from her Bengal covered couch and SUV....I love days off!

At 8:37 PM , Blogger Adri said...

I do! It's hard to see in my current profile picture because the lighting was bad and that's a webcam shot. (Also, I just refreshed the dye so it's VERY dark right now)

My fringe/bangs are royal purple, which I achieve with bleach and Special Effects 'Deep Purple' dye (along with, sometimes, help from Manic Panic Ultraviolet or Special Effects Pimpin Purple).

At 8:39 PM , Blogger Adri said...

Er, that is, my facebook profile pic (it's from last night). My blogger profile pic is nicely lit and shows plenty of purple!

Purple hair is a /great/ idea providing you don't have a boss that will disapprove. I think some of my clients were taken aback at first, but it's actually a help at conferences because people remember me. (My business partner has AMAZING dreadlocks, too, so we become 'that company with the hair')

At 8:42 PM , Blogger Na said...

Manic Panic! That's the stuff I used when I made my hair fuschia. It got all over the walls of my bathroom, as I had long hair then.

I always wanted purple hair. I mentioned this once to my mother, back in high school. She said I'd have to find a new place to live. Apparently she didn't mean it, but I believed her. Gave myself a mohawk instead. :P

At 8:49 PM , Blogger Dread Val said...

Well, here I am at urgent care, after a day of entertaining my brother and his wife. Waiting to get seen by a doctor to see exactly what the crud I have IS.

The crashing this morning was a well-intentioned guest trying to clean up the beer bottles, but they all went crashing onto the floor. I did threaten death, or No Coffee, which is worse, really. Got coffee, got Gatorade. Then had to go entertain my little brother on his last day in town. Finally dumped him back at our mother's place, as I was feeling feverish, and headed down to urgent care. Where, mysteriously, my insurance card got demagnetized. Of course.

Oddly, no I'll effects from all the drinking last night, except apparently taxing the hell out of my immune system. Throat is sore, I have a fever, and I ache all over. Yay. I keep thinking, didn't I just DO this last week?!

Grr.

At 8:51 PM , Blogger Chantrelle said...

Sorry I missed the party! Happy New Year!!!!!

We went out to an early dinner and then spent the evening w/ our neighbors, drinking (way too much) wine and playing Mah Jong. Fun, mellow night that still resulted in a wicked hangover.

Purple hair - i miss mine! Now that i officiate weddings though, i need to stick w/ natural brown. Don't want to lose any clients because of something silly like hair color!

Off to start watching season 2 of Dexter!

HAPPY 2009 FIENDS!

At 8:51 PM , Blogger vampi said...

i so desire purple hair. i've always been scared to bleach my hair myself, and i don't have a hair goddess i trust here, or anywhere really. every time i get my hair cut it tends to be trauma. i have very difficult hair. it's really fine, but i have tons of it, but that's not the issue. my hair shrinks differently when wet, so i always have hair that ends up looking like it wasn't cut, or i did it myself.

i have been alternating between black and maroon

At 8:55 PM , Blogger vampi said...

Chantrelle, wait, wait, you officiate at weddings? do tell more.

oh poor Val, please do get better. many hopes for very good tylenol with codiene, which works wonders for me with sweet dreams and loopy times.

oh, and i'm the boss, i had slightly pink hair when they hired me, and i don't see clients, so i can be as rad as i want. besides, one of the client facing people has a mohawk.

At 8:56 PM , Blogger Adri said...

vampi-- find someone who will cut your hair dry. Call and ask around; lots of stylists who specialize in curly hair will cut dry hair. :)

Val-- I think I'd prefer a hangover to death flu. :( Hope you feel better soon!

At 8:57 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

That picture of you rocks, Q. You look wonderful. And Mim is such a smart kitty! :-)

Lys, I will be peeking at Facebook soon to see if you're around...

I had purple streaks once. Started with blue, decided I liked purple better. Then went all jet black. Then red. Then tried blonde for a bit. Then back to reddish hightlights. Then stopped with the coloring out of sheer laziness. Then promised myself that when I started to go grey, I would just go grey, no playing footsies with nature anymore. So I don't. :-)

The odd schedule that is my school life (both teaching and going and tutoring) begins revving up in earnest tomorrow. In addition to my day job as an inclusion special ed teacher, I will be taking one grad class (will be taking two over the summer, so no worries, mates, I will be staying on track), I will be tutoring 3-6 hours a week at the local college's athletic dept., and at least until early February will be teaching homebound 4 hours a week. And if I were offered more tutoring and/or homebound, by God's mercy, I'm taking it. Need the dollars, you know. Job loss in the family sucks. Anyhoodle, all this means is that while I will be reading this wonderful blog every evening, I will not be posting like I have been over these sweet holly holidays. But will be leaning that much harder, for comfort's sake, if more quietly on those who *are* posting...

It bears repeating -- thank you for the best party ever and Happy New Year, fiends!

At 8:59 PM , Blogger ariandalen said...

Aw, Val. That seriously sucks. Hope they can help you feel better at the clinic.

At 9:01 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Manic Panic rules, I LURV it.

Dread Val--yuckies!! Burning that fever out for sure, aren't you.

My sympathies. You know, Mimosas are just FULL of Vitamin C. And if you use Pomegranate juice, that's a lot of immune system support and anti-oxidants.

At 9:03 PM , Blogger Na said...

Val! Be well!

Hi Chantrelle - *waves*

I work from home, so come to think of it, could do whatever I wanted with my hair. Hmmm. Don't think it's the kind of thing that would get me kicked out of the country...

At 9:06 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Val, I hope you get better quickly. Urgent care is one of my least favorite places to be.

I'm jealous of all the fiends who get to have radical hair! The place I work is quite strict when it comes to that-- not out of conservatism, really, but because we don't want to do anything that will distract the students. They have enough trouble paying attention as it is.

That's what my bosses say, anyway. I think the kids would LIKE my crazy hair.

I'd especially like pink hair, I think. Or green and blue highlights.

At 9:15 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Oh VAl, I do hope you get better this is certainly no fun at all!

Chantrelle, so glad you are back , we did miss you!

I am pretty sure I would never dye my own hair, bad idea, but I am lucky to have a Boss who is not phased by hair colour at any rate..

Poor Val, feel better soon! Yuckies.

Dexter isn't happening tonight, hubby's sleeping early. He has to quit coffee, alcohol, anything fun because of pre-ulcerous symptoms (acid reflux, etc) for a whole month. He's a grumpy boy.

vampi - i marry people :) I was ordained in '95 on ulc.org and married friends/family for years and just this year decided that i can do it for people i don't know and get paid! whee! I had a last minute wedding the day after xmas, it was great! It's so much fun.

Now that it's 2009, our fiend meetup is THIS YEAR! woo!

This is for all fiends who like watching bad movies. Rent "Hell Comes to Frogtown." Not, I repeat, not child safe; would be classified as Adult Content, I don't remember if there is nudity though there is definitely women in bras and panties. It stars Rowdy Roddy Piper as the last fertile man in part of post-apocalyptic America, a con man who gets captured by the law. The government wants him alive, so to bring him in they put on an a chastity belt that will explode if he doesn't stay within a certain range. Sendahl Bergman (from "Conan the Barbarian") plays one of the policewomen/rangers bringing him in. It's so bad it's funny, even with it not to be taken seriously. Special effects are bad, mutant costumes are really bad, but it's just too damn funny not to see it. We actually own it, and have watched it several times.

600+ comments for NYE? That's some kinda record. So sad I missed the whole thing! I was home having a movie marathon w/El. We rented 8 movies! Only watched 4 last night. Still in my jammies and it's bedtime all ready. Gotta work tomorrow :(

Missed all the fiends! Love to Mim on her woobie. But fur? Really? I didn't think anyone still had furs (other than the kind still on the animals) But of course Mim chose wisely. Wonder if she has little dreams of chasing them all down and as she digs her claws in; feeling the life leave their tiny bodies as she thinks MINE! all MINE!

Hellboy I (cool)
Hellboy II (should have stopped at I)

This am watched:
Journey to the Center of the Earth (Brendan Frasier)
Narnia (Prince Caspian)

Still to come:

El NO WAY!!! I just told my El & she laughed too! I often think when I'm posting and say things like "Me & El" that I have to disclaim saying it's not YOU but my El. LOL

Val! Fiend love & all the kitteh's & goggies too! Hope your snugglyon particle fields weave their magic & you are on the road to recovery soon. Anything is better than having to go to urgent care on a holiday no less.

It is really weird. :) My mother even spells hers the same way you do, without an "e" in Stacy.

So! Fiends, take note! I am not the same as Stacy's El. Except when I am.

...right, I am getting loopy. Sure sign of bedtime.

Val, drink lots of tea, you poor thing. The rest of you fiends: make mischief! Good night!

600 + comments! wow, busy and festive indeed! i will try to read at least the majority! A wonderful and happy new year to all the fiend family!

my family and i just returned a couple hours ago from a short trip we took together - a 4 day cruise to the bahamas, kindof a surprise for the daughters, and nice for us five to be together as life will not permit that much often anymore. on the way there, we had our flight diverted due to a medical emergency, we were literally the last people to be allowed on the boat before the gangplank was pulled up. then, it was smooth sailing until nye about 1 am- sadly, sadly, a young man, an employee of the cruise line (carnival) fell overboard and the ship and coastguard worked 5 hr to try to find him, and the coastguard is still working on it - with no sign of him yet. a sad and somber start to the new year. on our first flight on the way home today we had an extremely disruptive passenger who was so obnoxious and unusual the plane turned back, and all of us had books, belts, keys at the ready - we were that scared of him. wow, what a strange trip it's been, to paraphrase the grateful dead. Hope your nye has been fun, and your new year one of hopes, dreams and the drive to achieve them.

it is so good to be home, and tho tank had wonderful caregivers and had new playmates, he jumped on my lap and would only present me with his rump. his sign for No, You Are Bad And I Do Not Like You.

again, blessings on you all! Happy New Year!

It's ffffrakking cold here -11 F but "feels like -29 F". Erk. I was wickedly happy last night to hear a native Albertan complain of the cold.

'Night-morning all, hope every last one of you is warm and well (or at least on the mend) in every way.

just watched bolt. because boy is in some animation society, we get all sorts of dvd's. we got madagascar 2, bolt, wall-e and some shorts. that's keeping us in entertainment right now :) he get's to vote on everything like the oscars, but for animation movies. it's sooo cool. i can't believe we moved here for my job, and he got a job in the movies. it's so cliche.

I have the herd mentality - I just signed up for face book. I sent the folks with email addresses in the comments section friend requests, but didn't catch on to saying that it was a Fiend request immediately. If you get a request from sarah goslee, that's me. :)

Sue, glad you made it home okay. Wish that your holiday hadn't been marred.

Lys, I knew you'd be interested. ;) I think it was Roddy Piper's first movie. It's somewhere around twenty-five years old. We first watched it on VHS, though we found it on DVD several years ago.

Phiala--I completely understand; that is what lured me in to finally FB register.

Either that, or the Featherstick Lorraine was waving at me :)

Kitty-Happy New Year! I *think* I sent you a Friend request on FB; that was in the first rush after joining and I'm uncertain as to whether I did it right :)

Vampi--I love that Fiend became Demon God became God of Protection Program. We are all Protection Program Gods! (er, and Goddesses!)

El--At one point or another Cyndi Lauper managed wrestlers; maybe Rowdy Roddy was one of hers. Or they were just friends. In any case, I do remember seeing them around together.

Today I was eating lunch with the kids (5 of them today) and trying to explain that people believe different things and we didn't need to try to convert each other over PB & J today. The "Santa is real" kids were trying to convince the Jew and Hindu (one each). I was calmly explaining that we can all believe in what we want when:

Kid one: I know who Santa's brother is!

Kid two: GOD!

I think they were a little alarmed at how hard that made me laugh.

hehe

For interested parties, I see that io9.com changed their tune rather quickly after being ever so politely, Britishly yet thoroughly spanked in Neil's blog for inaccuracies. "Related news" became "related rumour-mongering" blamed on fans, rather than stated as fact. Weasels!

So sorry Gayle. Why in the world did the police not do anything? I really don't know what else to say. I am really not so much in favor of fighting violence with violence... but I sure understand the impulse.

At 8:29 PM , Blogger gaypet said...

Aleta, I am actually an aspiring pacifist and REALLY don't think violence is ever OK. But "aspiring" is the key point. I know that if I had been there I would have some inner work to do to get back to my peaceful place.

Gandhi said that true pacifism comes from the heart and that it is not just about actions but what you feel in your heart. I choose not to be violent. But my gut tells me to kick the shit out of them. More work to do. :)

At 8:44 PM , Blogger Beez said...

Th'art better women than I.

I go for kicking the shit out of them- no question.

Now, it's been a few years since I actually put this in practice, but it's always the first impulse.

At 8:49 PM , Blogger Na said...

Gayle! First you had me in metaphorical stitches, but it's awful to hear about the real ones in your friend's boyfriend. Oooh that frosts my cake! Sincere healing wishes to them both.

facebook. I was at first overzealous in accepting friend requests. Then I got a wtf? invite from an ex, decided enough was enough, and I clicked "ignore". Have since learned that you can't send someone a friend invite more than once (ever), and if you ignore they can't resend. I'd guess this helps prevent a stalking sitch, so good. Bummer tho', I removed someone I didn't need to, and learned you can't "refriend" later.

I also once recycled all my concert ticket stubs. Regret that some now. What's the opposite of a "packrat"?

At 8:55 PM , Blogger Beez said...

Opposite of packrat=organized which is not me.

At 8:58 PM , Blogger Na said...

:P Took half an hour to write a comment (simultaneously getting monsters to sleep).
I appreciate the points about pacifism vs violence, thought vs action. I find I am skeptical that a person can be wholly engaged in the chaos of a normal life (whatever normal is for their culture) and be wholly pacifistic. Not saying it's impossible, not saying it's not worth striving for. Just wondering.

At 8:59 PM , Blogger gaypet said...

I think the thing with this friend is that he and I have been close to this citation before and, I know it's lame, but I can't believe I wasn't there to protect him. Nothing I could do but somehow I still manage to feel like a failure.

I remember the moment I decided to stop fighting. I used to think that if I didn't start it then I was in the right. But the guy who started it was still bleeding. And I felt bad. I was a bit of a problem child. :)

You are all so supportive. No matter your feelings on "shit-kicking" I am honored to be your friends! Thanks again.

At 9:01 PM , Blogger Na said...

lol, Beez. I dunno. May be possible for one to be TOO organized, if it means throwing away that which you later miss.

At 9:03 PM , Blogger Beez said...

*laughing*

Well, at all 5'3" of me, I really needed to start learning to think before opening the can of whup-ass on someone.

The surprise factor is priceless though.

At 9:03 PM , Blogger Na said...

Gayle, are the attackers' identities known? Can something be pursued yet? Possibly there is something still that can be done on behalf of your friends, and long term help prevent other bashing incidents?

At 9:05 PM , Blogger Na said...

Oops. Made an assumption. Anyway - that other people can be prevented from being harmed by these presumed thugs, I meant.

At 9:05 PM , Blogger gaypet said...

Ya, I am not organized either. I have boxes sitting in my apartment with no where to go 'cause I have crap I can't get rid of!

I think the mindset of a true pacifist is not something I will ever attain. It is an ideal for me. I would defend myself and my friends and if violence was necessary I would probably resort to it. But I am trying to teach M that violence is NOT OK. Ever. I guess I hope that we will evolve to a less violent place as humans. But that will be centuries from now.

So for now. Bury the hatchet!!! :D

Na, frankly, my friend really should go to civil court as he is an actor and the stitches and bruises will affect what roles he can get for a while. I think at the moment he is just working on feeling safe in his own skin. I will talk to him again on Sunday and see how he feels about court. There is still a lot of bigotry out there. The cops would be (apparently) evidence of that.

Beez, I am not exactly formidable and I stopped fighting at 14. But I bite, so...

At 9:21 PM , Blogger ariandalen said...

Gayle, I'm so sorry about your friends. Surely they can file charges against the bigots, and possibly against the officer(s) who was there and did nothing. ::shrug:: I plead ignorance of the law on the best course to take. ::sigh::

Beez, you can be an organized packrat. Everything is in its proper place, yet nothing gets thrown away. Takes a lot of discipline, but it is possible.

So, back to Renata's question. The opposite of a packrat would be a minimalist. At least, that's what seems to me to be the best answer. :)

At 9:26 PM , Blogger gaypet said...

Once again the, more than, supportive Fiendom has come to the rescue. Thank you all for the good vibes. I will let my friend know. You have made a crap night MUCH better. Thank you!!

Night.

Sorry, Q. I hope you had a great gig and got home safe to feather sticks and Bengals.

At 9:28 PM , Blogger Na said...

Yes, from my far-removed vantage, those cops do seem to be perfect evidence of bigotry. I can't help but wonder if there are other officers in their force who would act differently than they. One can wish, hope. Urgh. A hundred other thoughts about this. If they pursue it, may a civil case be productive and Make a Difference, be helpful to your friend and his bf.

I feel like beating up a pillow.

At 9:32 PM , Blogger Na said...

At 9:40 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

My nephew is a rookie cop in the LAPD, and I think he is a good person who cares, so I will hope that not all cops are uncaring bigots. And I would advise exploring the possibilities of a civil suit, oh yes. Although I know nothing about the law, I still think it couldn't hurt to check with a good lawyer. But that's always a tough decision. I hope the wounds, of all kinds, heal quickly and with no scars.

In my heart and head, I am terribly violent. Fighting back is my go-to move, even if it's just verbal and all in my head. Something I need to work on, of course, sigh. I admire the true pacifist. (One of my favourite saints is St. Seraphim of Sarov, who was severely beaten by a man trying to rob him and then pled for mercy for the robber. He truly believed that state-inflicted punishment wouldn't help someone he saw as a wounded soul. But I am so far from that sort of love for others that I cannot even imagine it well.)

I am thinking of hangin' round until Ms. Fablo shows back up. Unproductivity is no longer my middle name, it is my first and only name. In all caps. I should be in bed, but no. If I'm up, I should be doing work. Again, no. Wow, I need someone who is willing to use violence to give me a sharp smack and get me back to working mode!!! Oh help and bother...

Looks good, Sally. :)

I've had short hair only once in my life. I was in third grade. I don't think it was quite as short as yours, but close. The rest of the time my hair has been shoulder length or longer.

I have never been blonde.

Pre-emptive Peace/Pacifism only works against someone who cares....those attackers (and the bigoted cops) didn't. Well, they didn't care about the right things.

Anyway, I am a pacifist EXCEPT AND UNTIL there is a threat towards those I love and care about...or towards those who cannot protect/defend themselves.

Then, well....bet y'all can figure there aren't many limits. Um, I don't have a gun in the United States.... nor, to be honest, am I much of a martial artist any more. But so many things can be weapons, in the hands and hearts of the inspired.

I tried pure pacifism; I flailed. 'Bout as successful as I was at being married. Do respect it; just can't BE it.

Ok, I just read a chick lit book and it was a fun read, but there was a family scene that just had me bawling. Whew. Probably needed that cry.

Sally! Love the hair! It's very dramatically different; I can tell you will love it.

I cut mine off to my ears when I was 14, then didn't cut it at all again for ten years I was so traumatized! I had something like 2.5 feet of hair when I started trimming it back and cutting it again.

Here's my reaction to being blonde (preparing to dye my hair the first time): zomg blonde!

Mmmmm. Such good food for thought on the pacifism topic. Lys, your note about protecting loved ones reminded of a moment when my son was still a babe in my arms, and someone wanted to give him a kiss. Bless her, she is a retarded woman, so makes some strange sounds that bothered him, but she's kind and harmless. And yet, when he got upset, a Mother Bear awoke in me and rooooaarrrred. I had the presence of mind to simply carry him away.

na-completely understandable!! Nature gave you that reflex for good reason. And it sounds like you did an excellent job of tempering instinct with reason.

Myself, well, sometimes it is a bit much. When I used to go to clubs in LA with friends (mostly female, we ran in packs :) )I bared my teeth (and sometimes aimed well-placed elbows and/or boots)against SO many overly aggressive clubbers of either gender! Now, THAT'S overly protective :) I've mostly gotten over that level.... but not entirely!

Home now, my dears, such a lot going on!

First off, Gayle, my heart is with you and your friend.

On the whole thing of being a pacifist, well, violence is NOT the answer to every little problem, but if it is needed, yes, I would , and have, indeed fought back. You have to. To protect yourself, or someone you love.

You have to be strong. When push comes to shove, if it is your life, or a loved ones, shove. Ideals are lovely, but they don't much always work. DO what you have to.

Sally! Are you , like 21? Fods! There's a change for a girl!

Right. I promised a new post, for those who are up, I'd best go and write it....
