Some Live Boss on the Internet...

If you are hanging out and wish to hear cool Coraline things, Boss will be doing some internet radio in about 50 minutes, at 1:00pm Eastern Coast Time here in the US.....

The show will run from 1 to 2.....And it will be him and Stephen Jones talking about the Coraline: The Visual Companion.

Here's the Link!

Reports are the drive is going well, and he has achieved 29 degrees. Cabel seems happy, tho he is getting good at not taking some of his pills.

Love and Radio,
Lorraine

Woot... thanks for the update.

First!!!... for the first time in a while.

Glad to hear about Cabal

As a coincidence I just finished listening to your boss read Coraline as an audiobook. It was lovely. It is quite pleasant to listen to him read.

I am in the library ... bad timing. Oh well. Thanks anyway for letting us know!

29! Practically spring! Yeehaw.

Hey, I'm not on Authortracker. I don't sign up for everything. Got a little self-restraint. :D

We are going out for a nice dinner (an old gift that needs claiming) tonight, so sadly I shall miss it...

Hooray! Finished overdue project just in time for lunch AND new post.

Must attempt to connect headphones to work computer so I can play too!

Hadn't realized Boss had been twittering this trip, but at least he seems to have the direction right for warmer....

Eska vous vous (pardon my attrocious American accent) new de-lurkers.

Hello Rubius! Are you settled in yet?

Checking the little box thing is REALLY helpful. Thank you for pointing me to it.

I can't listen to the interview at work, wah! Maybe I can listen to it later? (Danth or Dr. Wicked???)

Darn, I'm too busy to listen - I could have it playing, but I wouldn't be able to really *listen*, I've got too many things I need to get done for work.

It's sunny and -5 here. I really wish Husbeast would learn to control the weather already. Brrrr!! And, no, Purdue didn't close. It did a few years ago because of a blizzard and low temps, but not today.

*fills up tea cup* Can I pour anyone a cuppa?

(and it helps to be logged in with the right account. Sheesh)

hi Ticia, we aren't settled yet. Thanks for asking. The cats are still fighting.. they tend to do it in my room... all night long... every night... with Lamie claiming the high ground and using her hiss-power on the others. It has all been a bit of an ordeal to tell the truth. First one of my roomies was so sick during our move (the guy, go figure) that he couldn't help with the move at all and had to be left in bed and then rehydrated at the hospital. Now he is back to being okay but my other roomie has come down with a terrible case of 'hand foot and mouth' and she had to be taken to the hospital for an overnight and rehydration two nights ago.... that was just after their bed mysteriously broke in the middle of the night... so you can imagine that the house is NOT together. My stuff is finally in it's approximate place but all still boxed. The kitchen is vaguely presentable... and we finally got phone service. Fortunately I have actually gone through 'hand foot and mouth' before (it was hideous to have in high school, let me tell you) and I hope to be able to avoid the disease. That's about the only bright spot... that and the ipod that helps get me to work and back (it is like 1.5 to 2 hours each way, it used to be a 15 minute walk for me)... and while I still don't have a working computer (and the earliest I might get one is mid-next week) at least the ipod works on our wireless network when I am at home.

{Rubius} That's a heck of a commute! And a really big adjustment. Hope you are on public transportation just so you can get other stuff done to and from work besides driving.

I guess I'll go listen to interview now as it's started.

Is anyone else getting a looping "checking time zone" thing on the blogtalkradio link?

At 10:08 AM , Blogger Marjorie said...

if you follow the link you can download to i-tunes as a podcast (or thats what it says) so you should be able to listen later, if not live

At 10:10 AM , Blogger Rubius said...

It shut down my firefox but it opened in Safari just fine.

I clicked on the little 'play' button and am playing it off the built in player

At 10:11 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

That's how it starts, it drops down and you click on your zone, don't know why, but it needs that info..

Also, it won't work with Camino, works fine with Safari tho..

At 10:12 AM , Blogger ivenotime said...

how fun! hope i will be done enough with tax stuff to be able to enjoy it. 29 degrees? heat wave...

At 10:14 AM , Blogger louisa said...

I have sound! Hooray!

At 10:15 AM , Blogger Phiala said...

I couldn't get it to work in firefox either (under linux) but switching browsers fixed the problem. I missed the first couple minutes, though - too bad there wasn't a test feed for a couple minutes before the show.

At 10:18 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Hurrah!

I think it is funny, at least on my sound, that Boss is the only one who is coming thru with good sounds, and Steve, and the two interviewers are boxy, or far away, or fuzzed..

And Boss is doing this from a mountain on his cell!

At 10:19 AM , Blogger Marjorie said...

I got sound, but won't let me register to chat/comment. I missed the first couple of minutes too. if it downloads as ppodcast OK I shall have to go back and start again.

Rubius - sorry to hear your move didn't go smoothly - hope things improve very soon.

You can pat yourself on the back, Miss Q, for arranging the weather to ensure he has good reception!

At 10:22 AM , Blogger Jess said...

That's happening on my sound, too-- Boss sounds fine and everyone else sounds like they're talking through a tin can and bit of string. :D

At 10:26 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Which is funny, considering..

And just WHO spent an hour with him as he drove, alternating between Google Maps and T Mobile reception Map figuring out WHERE he was, and where would be the best place to talk??????

And I did do the weather.

Ok, never thought I would be blogging TWO blog radio web things in one day but at 6:00pm West Coast time, Marilyn Krieger , from Thecatcoach.com is doing a live chat.

She is the one who helped me save Magic, and one of the top experts on cat behavior and EG Benglas in particular.

I think I am going to call in. To hers, not Bosses.

Ah, the Boss Radio will be Podcast so everyone can hear it!

At 10:54 AM , Blogger Jess said...

At 11:11 AM , Blogger Rubius said...

ah... that was lovely. Thanks again for the link, Lorraine. Sigh. Just lovely.

I liked Neil's 'bye' right at the end.

It was kind of weird, I was checking in here and you said 'he's calling from a mountain' and then I thought 'I wonder whether he is on one of the American Gods mountains' since I just started listening to American Gods this morning and then on the radio he said 'actually I am on the mountain where American Gods ends' ... really weird. I KNEW it.

At 11:33 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Aww I missed it. And for some reason I can't get the link to work.

Have to try back later.

At 11:37 AM , Blogger ariandalen said...

I didn't have any problem with listening and I use Firefox. I did have to okay the site through NoScript first. And I though Boss was clearer than anybody, too. I've been to Lookout Mountain, though it was when I was twelve, so 35 years ago. Opryland had just opened.

It's really cool to read a book where the action takes place somewhere you've actually been. Movies are that way, too, though not to the same extent.

At 11:42 AM , Blogger Rubius said...

On the first trip from my old place to my new place I was staring at a particular lot with half-built walls and street lights... and then I recognized it as the set for the Watchmen movie. Boy oh boy was I excited when I realized what it was. I knew they filmed it in New West (where I now live) because my new roomy had seen some of it being filmed near his old place... I had seen the 'making of' bits on youtube and I recognized the orange/purple theme.. and the lack of supporting walls... and now I keep wanting to go back there and sneak in and take photos.... but I have no car and sadly it is not near a bus stop so no luck.

At 11:47 AM , Blogger AletaMay said...

Missed it. Felt I needed to be driving at that time. Not sure why as my meeting was canceled. Oh well. Glad to hear it will be available for listening later.

oh squeee!!! tmbg have a song in the movie. i think i'm going to faint from delight when i finally get to see the movie.

oh and i just got my really awesome saucer poster. if anyone was on the fence about getting it... it's super freaking cool. i'm taking it to be framed tonight.

Now can't wait for a movie of The Graveyard Book!

At 1:56 PM , Blogger Chantrelle said...

Downloaded the podcast, will listen once ben is in quiet time. I'm sure i will love it, Boss is the best interviewee ever.

We went to target for laundry detergent and they were sold out but got ben a boat load of crap (damn dollar spot!) and a .... ELECTRIC KETTLE!! :) I got an Oster because it was stainless adn black and not plastic and white...had to match the kitchen (as ugly as the kitchen itself is, the appliances are all black and stainless!)

Can't wait to get blueberry girl. Although i cried all 3 times I heard boss read it and again when i got to flip through the pages.

It would be interesting to see how much more money I'd have if Boss wasn't so prolific...although I am much richer with him in my life (along with all the cool things he's introduced me to!)

Rubius, that is a long commute. Hope its not too exhausting for you.

See what you mean about Boss being the clearest - as is appropriate :)

I could see the mountain but not the man himself (students actually require that I, a teacher, be in the same room with them -- who'd have thought?!), and, sad to say, couldn't listen at the time so yay for podcasting! And thanks for the efforting, Ms. Fablo. You more than live up to your name!! :-)

At 4:26 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

(And I told you we had great reception in the area -- some weird confluence of mountains gives us waayyyy good reception. Like I can talk on my cell phone in the tunnel type of reception. Glad to see it worked for Himself!)

I can't send info back and I'm not on Twitter, but I've been following the Cabal pill saga.

Q-have Pill Pockets ever been tried? They come from a cool little company called Greenies, variety of flavours and sizes, and are THE only way to get pills down the cats.

They make several dog versions as well, and my vet highly recommends the. PetSmart and PetCo both have the cat versions, haven't looked for doggy-style. (hey, now...)

Perhaps someone who Tweets can mention them....unless, of course, they were already tried and failed...

At 5:14 PM , Blogger Stardustgirl said...

My poor dogs. It's too cold for them to go out and they are very bored. We played *lots* of ball today, but they're still bored. I'm not inviting a squirrel in the house for them to chase 'tho... I do have my limits.

Rubius - yikes! I hope the worst of that is behind you.

FabLo - not sure how greedy Cabal is, but sometimes the "I've got two!" trick works. I have a picky eater and it works for him. You take 2 of whatever he really likes (cheese, bread ball, Bil-Jac treat) and put the pill in one. Let him see that there are TWO treats, keep one in each hand. Feed him the one with the pill first. If he's fairly greedy, he'll gulp it down to get treat #2 faster.

Then again, if Cabal is a patient and civilized dog unlike my little hooligans, he won't be as grabby.

At 5:44 PM , Blogger Fluffy said...

Twittered the Pill Pockets suggestion to Himself, Lysandwr. I have used them with my cats and got better results than with anything but baby food meat (one cat looooved baby food.)

Fellow Texans, I had A Cunning Plan and sent the weather forecast via Twit about 3 hours ago hoping to tempt them southwards.

It could work.

At 7:06 PM , Blogger Dan Guy said...

Oh yeah, the web goblin is still gainfully employed, though HC only seems to remember to mail a check every eight months or so. ^_^

It's not a huge deal. I'm highly marketable. My current job just paid better than what is out there now is this economy (which is why it's ending -- they can get someone new for less) and the next job will almost certainly require a pay cut, which is a bit stressful.

I have one offer on the table already for a job that's twice the commute for 10% less pay. Tomorrow I'm meeting with another company the same distance from home in hopes that they might be convinced to pay me a little better. We shall see!

I love interviewing, for some reason. I do it for kicks even when I'm not looking for a job.

Hello dear Fiends and Lady Empress. Currently in Wheeling W. Va., where it will be -5 tonight. I just can't get away from it.

Hey, tell Boss he may need to make Dog sit, put pill as far back in his mouth as he can, tip his head back and stroke his throat- it forces them to swallow. (my Labs got wise to the treat thing too).

Sometimes you just have to go mano a mano with the hounds.

85 degrees in the high hot sun this afternoon, dropping to 67 as soon as the sun was "below the yardarm"

Still....not so bad! :)

At 7:42 PM , Blogger Phiala said...

Grendel has gone through several rounds of needing pills for whatever. Peanut butter - nope. Hot dog - nope. Lick the peanut butter off, leave the pill. Carefully unwrap the hot dog, bologna, whatever; leave the pill. Nick had some luck with pill wrapped in peanut butter wrapped in bologna, but not much.

I finally gave up on tricks, and just shoved the pill down his throat, THEN gave him a good treat. Grendel was more than fine with this plan, and came running every time I opened a vitamin bottle for months thereafter. Pills? For ME? And treats too right?? C'mon, give me a pill. Please?

I am tucked into bed with the laptop because it is not as cold under the blankets. Normally I'd snuggle with the dog until Nick came to bed (100 pound dog == very warm) but... he was into the catbox, I think. This has upset his digestion, and I do NOT want to be in the same room, let alone have him snuggled up anywhere near me.

*shudder*

I don't know. psh- I had to stop driving because of the night time, the mountains and the freaking snow squalls.

At 7:50 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

It will drop to 7 degrees tonight (F). Schools are closed, because we are not equipped for this sort of cold. Plus, many of the students do not have winter gear. I can't tell you how many of my kids were wearing t-shirts in subfreezing temps today. Yes, the sun was shining and no wind and it was pretty warm inside, but still. Standing out at a bus stop at 6:30 a.m. in seven degree weather with just a hoodie, or less in many cases in certain parts of town, is a bad. So the schools are closed. We are pretty well south, and most of the poorer families don't buy winter clothes because usually the teens can get by with a few long sleeve shirts, maybe a sweat shirt or a sports-type jacket. I haven't boughten gloves in I don't even know how long, and I know my 13-year-old doesn't have any (we use hand-me-downs anyway) because why spend money on something you don't need??

So, I am home tomorrow. With a sort of enforced vacation because I didn't bring much work home today. Thursdays nights are my grad class night and I knew I wouldn't get tons done so I left it all at school, thinking I'd bring it home over the weekend. So now I have a long weekend without my work stuff. I don't know what to do with myself...

Pooling freelance powers of liquid awesome...yes. I'd be up for that. Anyone looking for a proofreader? Grant writer? General word grunt? My rates are cheap. Mainly because I have no business sense and tend to undercharge. (I shouldn't admit things like that out loud, should I?)

If you have a talent that you'd like to put to use and you're open to collaborating with people, come join!

I honestly just decided to do this, it's just me so far and I definitely won't sell your info. I'm not turning this into a job site, I want to make a site for collaboration, hence, Groupfruit.

One question, though, Dr. Wicked. I'm filling out the form, and while I don't exactly hide my real name, I generally don't associate it anywhere with DataGoddess directly. Can the form be changed to have a "known by" name that is what's displayed wherever it's going to be displayed? I don't mind giving my real name, too, but I'd still like to be able to have a nickname, as it were. I like being practically non-Googleable ;-)

Figured I'd ask here, because I may not be the only person with that question.

DanGuy (any any other fiends in the same boat) sorry about the job - it's good that you have offers, byut the pay cut + extra commuting sucks.

Dr Wiccked - I think you may just have created the best website domain name EVAR... (Must be all that talent velcro you've got floating around...

Ariandalen - I read your comment as "Swarm, Queen Empress & all fiends" - another example of the hive-mind?

OK. working now. Honest. Not surfing the web and chatting at all. Oh no.

Good morning from a balmy 7F PA. We're still on the cold side of that Clipper!

I've seen the banana hammer done with liquid nitrogen as the cold source. Never thought about just outside!

Dr. Wicked, love the groupfruit idea. I will go and sign up later today.

Yesterday was depressingly busy in my office. I can tell the economy is tanking...more alcohol/domestic violence stories. and these are the folks who still HAVE health insurance.

Too many years of doing therapy and I still haven't worked myself out of a job.

But fiendish juicy collaboration possibilities sound intriguing...

Middle of the night? Not so much, but going thru the morning routine, getting to work, etc.

Here: -2F, -15 windchill. Yes, I walked to work. And I was overdressed. Wool is good.

Off to London for weekend with boyfriend's family! Should be fun, though they are all REALLY talkative, even the cat!
Have fantastic weekends all!

There was a lovely day today and it's a nice change from the pissy weather we have been having for a week. A little colder so there was loads of mist this morning as I made my way through the orchards to work. But when I went up the hill, I came above the fog layer and discovered a perfectly turquoise sky with just a tiny cloud on it and it felt magic.

Speaking of which: How's Magic? And the kitties? Time for a kitty update.

Thanks so very kindly for the tip-off and link! I'm quivering with even more Coraline excitement than before (a blessed affliction) and plan a massive bloggy lead-up and aftermath here in Miramar.

If there is excitment to be drummed-up among the local gentry, it shall be done. Too: Magnificent news about Cabel, who can probably take a pill better than I can.

Hello Jake, and Welcome, truly! What delightful turns of phrases you use, and a fine Fiendsih addition you are.

I am going to blog Coraline, quite a bit in the next few weeks. Because it is a fine movie and it is ALL I am doing these days, working up to the launch.

Well almost all.

Oh. Good Morning. Marjorie, no not Marjorie, Dabbler? Might be. Well, hover, you didn't kill any threads, It's just EARLY.

Phiala- If you're anything like me, morning routine & getting to work is done almost entirely on autopilot and without properly waking up, so might as well be the middle of the night for commenting purposes.

*It's unmentionable.

I don't know, Marjorie and Dabbler, I do know what you do, and between the pair of you , you might be everything one needs in life, eh?

You could set up together and keep people sane and out of jail.

Marjorie, now I'm wildly curious about what you do for a living.

Morning is somewhat routine, yes, but today extended to putting on several extra layers.

Dabbler, I like people like you because you teach people how to deal with their own shit. I'm big on owning your own stuff, you know?

(I didn't want to say "owning your own shit" because, personally, I prefer to get rid of shit)

Actually, I've been loving finding out what everyone does. The variety is neat, and adds some interesting perspectives.

I have officially been awake for 24 hours for no good reason other than I couldn't sleep. I predict I will be slap happy by the end of it. I'm also glad I'm not the one responsible for changes on our disk arrays, because I'd probably typo a command and crash something.

I'll just be over here playing with Excel, drinking various caffeine-laced drinks, watching the Battlestar Galactica marathon, and progressively getting sillier. Feel free to point and laugh if I get entertaining ;-)

11. Hair of Tasmanian Tiger yields genes of extinct species

All the genes that the exotic Tasmanian Tiger inherited only from its mother
will be revealed by an international team of scientists in a research paper
published today (Jan. 13) in the online edition of Genome Research. The
research marks the first successful sequencing of genes from this carnivorous
marsupial, which looked like a large tiger-striped dog and became extinct in
1936. The research also opens the door to the widespread, nondestructive use
of museum specimens to learn why mammals become extinct and how extinctions
might be prevented. "Our goal is to learn how to prevent endangered species
from going extinct," said Webb Miller, a Penn State professor of biology and
of computer science and engineering and a member of the research team that
includes scientists from the United States, Sweden, Spain, Denmark, the United
Kingdom and Germany. "I want to learn as much as I can about why large mammals
become extinct because all my friends are large mammals," Miller said.
"However, I am expecting that publication of this paper also will reinvigorate
discussions about possibly bringing the extinct Tasmanian Tiger back to
life."

What a fine idea, Dr. Wicked! I'm all over that. Need to be busy with other people. Boy howdy.

Tired today. Tired of feeling tired and sounding croaky. There is frost on my back door hinges. Why couldn't the weatherstripping have gone back in the summer, when it was warm enough to take the door off?! Argh.

And worst of all, I have to get my own coffee.

FabLo - EGADS!! I'd freak if my power died when it was unmentionably below zero. Then I'd toss some logs in the fireplace and frantically dial the furnace guy. I'm just not a cold climate girl.

Marjorie - I have happy lawyer experiences. One squeezed money out of a couple of people who don't pay their freelancers and one eased up a stalker situation (like cockroaches, those are never truly gone).

"Hey, Ms. Monk, why do we have to do this stuff anyway?" "I don't want to!" "I'm bored!" ad infinitum ad nauseum) but even with that, I love them. I kind of miss them today...

I have not yet showered. However, I am on the second load of laundry, have cleaned up the kitchen, done the dishes, vacuumed the 1st floor, and made lunch for me and the sweetest 13-year-old boy in the universe. (We are having scrambled eggs and toast and tangerines -- which sounds like breakfast but isn't because he had frosted flakes for breakfast and I had tea and we just like scrambled eggs.) Now to more laundry and a shower and then out in the 12 degrees (wtf?? I live in the south for a reason, people!!) to see if the school is open so I can get my stuff so I can work over the weekend!! Hope y'all are having a lovely day...

This sounds kind of wild -- but I felt like I could bring it up here ...

Our neighbor has just fallen and hurt herself horribly; a rescue is on its way and we are all quite terrified. I just discovered that the man who has been hurting my family for so long, but is now living elsewhere, has been stopping in to see her lately, pretending to be the Nice Guy he's not. Hello! This is my life! He's supposed to be out of it! People think he is so wonderful because they like his pseudo-character. Watching him act like that makes me sick to my stomach ... I haven't felt this furious for a long time.

If this offended anyone, I will gladly delete it. PLEASE DO let me know if it's too much.

I wanted to get the description out of the way, so you'd understand, BEFORE referring to them as horse chestnuts, conkers, or buckeyes, none of which names are at all related to my reasons for selection.

(I know, leave it to the botanist to come up with something obscure...)

Emily, hang on to what you know to be the truth of the situation and don't let anyone try to tell you that you're crazy, that you're exaggerating, or that you're looking for attention. *You* know what was done, if others can't believe it of "such a nice guy" then they're not worth your time.

Had an abusive girlfriend who covered really well. Took awhile for me to be able to hold my ground and walk away from anyone who insisted she couldn't be that bad. She tried to weasel her way back into my life by sending condolences about my MiL. Some people can't let go, will fight for power over you.
