Happy Dog!

Here you are, Sally....Sure does look like Boss made the right call. He looks healing and happy in the warm and sun...

I'm off into the cold and dark, with a warm Pub at the end of it, and music to do. See you later tonight. Chatter me some nice things to read, please?

Love,
Lorraine

I just crept up on Tysie totally unintentionally and scared the beejebus out of her.
She panicked, scrambled on the kitchen tiles, fell sideways.
I've never seen her fall sideways before.
I laughed at her.

Cabal is glowing. Even more so in the original I think. They drove to the land of glow.

Have a great show Q. Hope to be there next time!

Back now. Gee... snuck in another post today, eh? I had to go read and catch up. Cabal looks really happy (I'd be happy too if I were in a warmer climate!)

Are there any spicy geeky brains around to pick? I've been trying to understand CMS and if that would be a Useful Thing or not for me in my site update (stuck firmly in 1998 code).

I've posed my long-ish question here, if you're interested .

I'm mostly needing a nudge toward a site where I can educate myself. I've googled but seem to find pros talking shop.

Break a leg, Lorraine (not literally, of course!)

Must go babysit now. A little girl and a little boy. I need to remember to run upstairs and grab my Chinese phrasebook, as the two-year-old doesn't understand as much English as Chinese.

I will almost surely be around later, Fiends ....

He looks so much happier. So does Boss, actually, or at least productive in the tiny bit of him we can see:

I finished the first draft of the as-yet-untitled unicorn story. Yay! I like it, but it still needs work. I'll share with Fiends after I've done the revisions.

Time for sushi!

Sal; I've intentionally scared our one cat so badly when she was on the linoleium floor that she very much resembled a cartoon cat with all four feet flying but body remaining stationery; till she lost her footing & landed on her chin poor thing. I felt really bad; but was still lauging until I cried.

finally went to get some beads to bead me a new lanyard for my wok keys.

need to attach the laundry monster, but i went shopping by myself and had to brave the detergent aisle by myself, why just kills me.

i just can not deal with bleach or fabric softener. i can't even walk down the next aisle over with out feeling ill.

have a most wonderous gig tonight:) it was so neat to be able to see you gig.

At 5:34 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Vampi--oh I SO hear you. We use a laundry detergent called Planet; buy it in Whole Foods sort of places. Mom and I both have serious reactions to softeners, and, like you, can't walk down those aisles either. Somehow they are a little easier at the Coop or Whole Foods.

Phi - love to read the story. I'm a little sad, because I had considered writing a story around this:
Often, she would crouch in the backyard, trying to believe a unicorn into existence. It was easier in the twilight; she was sure she had seen glimmers of a form under the magnolia tree. When she tried at midday, she usually fell asleep in the warm sun. Ants would tear across her bare skin, and flies would dance around her ears, causing her to jerk awake. She knew that if she just woke up a little more gently, she would not scare the unicorn away.

Now, I'd just be copying...

At 6:35 PM , Blogger Phiala said...

Siri, the ONLY thing that's the same between your idea and mine is that there's a unicorn involved. No copying involved, except that we both have ideas about unicorns from other sources. Write your story!

At 6:48 PM , Blogger Jess said...

Siri - Boss said it just yesterday (I think it was yesterday), and I've told students the same thing all the time: it's not how "original" the idea is. It's what you do with the idea.

Cabal's gone nuclear! Oh noes!

Heh. He looks much happier. :) Do you know if he's been swimming, and whether it's helping? I remember someone said something about swim-therapy.

Rock their faces off tonight, Quiche!

At 6:53 PM , Blogger Jess said...

Hang on..."I've told students the same thing all the time"?! With that kind of grammar, it's a miracle they listen to me at all. Geez.

Aww, cute happy dog. I saw his picture earlier from Twitroid or summat, but I can't figure out how to get the Twitter posts on my phone... Too much high tech too fast for my poor old brain.

Just thought I'd mention that at the end of the last post's comments I gave out info for a group photo album on Photobucket. If you log onto the address and enter the special fiendish password you can see that first screenshot from last night (double-click and choose 'full size' to see it larger) and you can upload your own fiendish photos as well.

Well! this is what happens when you get last minute tickets on craigslist. Apparently the tickets I bought are for tomorrow's show (they're at will call)-- which is not at all what the ad said.

Oh well! I'm just glad I met up with Chantrelle earlier instead of just relying on the concert meetup. Now I'm just relaxing here at the hotel since there will be plenty of social activity in the coming days, and I'm an introvert who needs quiet time to recharge. :) So, kind of nice after all.

And, of course, I get to see pictures of glowing dogs and chat with Fiends!

Siri, I think your unicorn bit is lovely.

There was this table tonight, 4 of them 2 couples who came in and I can only describe the as Garrison Keillor does, as Lutheran. It's kind of a midwest joke, about how they are afraid to enjoy them selves and let go.

I would have thought they DID NOT like us.

They didn't laugh much or do more than applaud politely.

They didn't drink, only one for the four in about an hour, but then, when I said we were going on break, stated they were going to order another round for the next set.

Hello?

They told me that we were the best band ever, and how they had been to Ireland once, and this was the best night out ever.

Ok. I so rocked them. Weird world, this gigging....Who can say?

Morning Fiends, I wonder if Lutherans have ever before been compared to Goths for their musical appreciation? Glad last night went well, Q, my sulking from missing the previous night (you played the Serenity theme??!) has been marginally mollified by Dr W's vids and the promise of more soon.

Emily - don't know about how hard it is to be a cat but I do know that everybody wants to be a cat (the first movie I ever saw)

Siri - I second Phiala's Write Your Story!! Sounds good so far. Speaking of Unicorn's, love Peter Beagle's "The Last Unicorn", beautiful book, especially read out loud.

Off to get ingredients for cookies, today is Baking Day.

At 3:01 AM , Blogger Marjorie said...

Morning all. Glad the gig was good - although I can see why hte 'serious enjoyment' of the music would very very strange as a performer!
Siri - write your story - I want to know how it turns out. I want to know how Phiala's turns out, too - there can never be too many unicorns... I also think 'covered in bengals' sounds as if it should be story, or maybe a poem. (I'm covered in just one cat as I type, but even one can seem quite a lot in these circumstnaces.

I need to go and buy lots of sugar, to make marmalade.

Maybe I should get dressed first.

Congratulations on a marvelous gig, Lorraine!

Good sunday morning all! we have 15 inches of new white, and....it's snowing! Surprise! on a brighter note, YEY for fiends meeting up, and for bengals arriving at new homes.

snort, giggle, Lorraine, I was raised as a lutheran, with red jello and hot dish potlucks in the church basement. no one was more lutheran than my birth extended family- at my grandparents 50th anniversary, it took about 4 hours into the celebration for conversation to start....course we were finnish lutherans, so quiet was a way of life :) I am real quiet and reserved most of the time too - can't escape the legacy. what a chuckle, glad they enjoyed your music, but then who wouldn't! hope your wrists and fingers are feeling better.

What's the June date for gathering?

All this talk of meetups sounds fun.

At 9:09 AM , Blogger Dread Val said...

Morning, Fiends!

Quiche, you rocked the Lutherans' world? If anyone could do it, it would be you. :) Covered in Bengals and going back to bed sounds spectacular.

Today's Fiend meeting fell to me to plan where, and mostly when. This is a truly scary thing, let me tell you. There I was, painting my ass off in the studio, and my cel phone would sporadically remember it could get email -- and I'd see this flood of 'Uh, what do you want to do?' 'I don't know, what do YOU want to do?' emails. Which left us with me sending out emails at 1:30 a.m., once I got home.

We'll see how well this works. The plan is obligatory coffee, then a trip to the local Buddhist temple. And I don't know what anyone else besides me looks like. And I haven't had coffee. I plan to sit down, drink coffee, see who comes up to me, and hope for the best.

Hee hee! Dan, you make me laugh. :)

Rockin' the Lutherans! Only you could pull it off, Q!

I dunno...I'm kind of low-key at concerts and things myself. I like to sit quietly and tap my foot. Sometimes I smile. I do applaud in an appreciative fashion, but, yeah, I'm pretty mellow. Does that mean I'm a Lutheran? :D

I had to shovel the alley behind my house this morning, because the plows won't do it. Already there's more. I suppose my efforts mean I won't have to shovel eight inches tomorrow. Still I hate winter!! Bleah. Val, if I turn up at your door, don't be surprised.

At 10:57 AM , Blogger Phiala said...

Val, there's always Fiends around somewhere.

I'm at work. I had grand plans (okay, not-so-grand plans) of working on a brainless portion of a project that's due shortly while listening to audiobooks.

Not a horrible way to spend a Sunday afternoon, though not by far the best either. But... deadlines.

But I can't get into the lab! The deadbolt responds properly to my key, but the knob will not turn. To the best of my knowledge, there is no core lock on that door. Certainly there is no keyhole.

This is a problem.

At 11:06 AM , Blogger Marjorie said...

Val, I was here for a while, but there was nothing going on, so I left to make risotto instead.

In the new fiendocracy we will have Fiend Standard Time. I'm sure that if we get DanGuy and Dr Wicked together they can sort out all these pesky timezones!

Looking forward to hearing all about the fiends meeting up. . Louisa & I are meeting up next month, all being well.

Marjorie, I'm sorry, but you call that SNOW? Phhhtww. That's less than a skiff. That's less than a trace. That's something that would keep all the SoCal fiends in their homes!!

Wait! I thought we operated on Doom Standard Time!

And I at least waited an hour last night before complaining of killing the comments. ;P

It figures that Ms. Fabulous would show up shortly thereafter.

Spicy Brain Daquiris for All! now THAT's Fiend o'Clock Somewhere...

hehehehe.

Okay, time to go walk the cat.

Or (as he puts it) be walked by the cat.

Yes, Fiends found Dread Val, and each other, with relatively little difficulty.

Most left with the same set of spicy brains they brought.

Pictures, stories, but first a 6-year-old birthday party to attend.

It's been a good day.

I think it can be both Doom Standard Time and It's Fiend O'Clock Somewhere. That just means it's time to drink something and then take over the world. Again.

We've got some kind of Supper Synchronicity going, Marjorie. I made risotto last night! Just with chicken stock, though.

Hare stock! Who knew? I have never consumed a hare.

I demand pictures of this Fiend Event. Well, not demand. Just feel anticipatory with respect to such.

Argh. Laptop won't let me post...

Bean Soup with ginger and smoked pork shanks for dinner. Cooked in the crockpot all day yesterday.

Cheerios with soy milk for dinner. Ya, been that kind of day. :)

Ah Louisa, thank you for that trip down memory lane.
My first fan T'shirt was an Aristocats one - with the cats provided by an artistic friend and hobbytext.

Ohhh, I like your bead Marjorie.

Lets see....last night we had pancakes Jess, a nice carbohydratie meal for Pete who is deep in the throes of an episode of The Black Dog at the moment. Tonight, T bone steaks, with salad as it will be hot today...35C. Hot all week, so you may hear me whimpering from time to time.
Photos! Gossip!

It's okay, Cheerios rock.

Sorry -- was responding to Gayle's post and then when I came back there were four more comments.

I love Cheerios. But soy milk? Ugh. Said Ms. Lactose-Tolerant.

Bean soup with ginger and shanks sounds yum. I want to make that. :)

*runs in and hugs Fiends*

I have missed you all- and a live webcast? I missed it? Boo!

Finally home, at least driving northward we drove into. warmer weather for a change. When it's colder in Wheeling W. Va. than it is in Dubuque....

One more day off and then the U. is back in session- yikes! Back to it!.

Jess, I was Vegan for many years and got used to it. Took some time. ;)

Emily, your comment about your brother covered in foil and blue ink made me laugh. I hope you didn't have to clean it up. :) How are you doing?

I don't often eat a bowl of cereal for dinner but there was not going to be any cooking! I would have to clean fist. Not gonna happen.

Glad to see you back, Beez. Missed you!

At 5:37 PM , Blogger Jess said...

It's very important to keep your fists clean. Good on you, Gayle.

Aagh I have no dishwasher detergent left, and cannot do the dishes. Well, I could technically, by hand-- but that'd be work. Screw that.

I'm sure you're all fascinated. :D

Gayle, I have been better the last couple of days and am so thankful for the Fiends who helped me so much. I'm so glad you're all here!

No, I didn't have to clean it up. Benjamin is, erm, "special" but also very responsible and good at cleaning up after playing with shiny things like foil.

At 7:40 AM , Blogger dabbler said...

EmilyLady, my thought on reading of Benjamin's costume was "Wonder if he'd like to make a Tin Woodsman costume?" :-)

Warning...Oz obsession likely to continue until early March. When I will NEVER want to see/hear/think about it again.

And good morning to all. We have a dusting of white this morning. Just enough for me to see the tracks around the house. Looks as if we may have a smallish raccoon helping eat the birdseed.

And, of course, Wild turkey hens, and squirrels....

At 7:45 AM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

Raccoons! Live turkeys! Such exotic animals to me.

Today, in the US, is Martin Luther King Day...and a day of volunteerism for many. Hubby is painting at Valley Forge National Park and then learning to run the projector at our local restored Movie Theatre.

Here's to brave and articulate proponents of freedom and equality for all. King would have been so proud to see Obama elected, had he lived.

And here's to not resting on our laurels because we are still so far from a world where everyone is safe, respected and cherished. Not to mention fed.

Raccoons and turkeys = pretty entertaining. They have managed to find niches in what is increasingly suburbia. Amazing!

Okay, now MUST do other thingss Love you, fiends!

Well said Dabbler.

Oh Q! Feel better!!! You've no idea how much you are missed! I'm having withdrawals!

See??? that's what happens when you get a day off... Your body relaxes all at once & the 'glue' of everyday crap that needs to be done falls apart and you become infected... That's it; *says in best Seinfield impression*
"*No days off for you!*"
