Another Night Of Winter????

Ok, so this has been a Week, and a week of many things. Ok, so the Fods get together and make their plans, and Plans decree I need to go to Chicago and get TWO more Bengals in need of help just at the moment that AFP is doing a show there, which is good, as I cannot go to her show in Minneapolis two days later...

And then the Fods decree my Booking Agent, the Mighty Fitz, calls on the way back from Chicago, and asks can he switch a gig so we have the Friday AFP is playing Minneapolis off. Very nice, thinks me, really want another AFP show...

But are the Fods laughing that not only are both shows in different STATES, many hours away, but also to get to them I will not only be sleep deprived, but there will be a BLOODY BLIZZARD both times to drive thru?????????

But of course.

Had no clue there was one brewing when Kitty and I left for the airport tonight. We are X time away from the airport. Took DOUBLE X time to get there...In short, she, with Kali in cat carrier made the plane, barely, and I made it to the show, with minutes to spare...

SO worth it.

You may have inferred, from various posts and such that AFP and Danger Ensemble may have been houseguests of Boss, and as an Assistant there might have been a fair amount of work involved in such an undertaking, and it is true a Rock Star, Co, and crew might have not been an easy task, nothing could be further from the truth. They rocked. They helped out, they were lovely, they were delightful. And I would welcome them all back at an time.

After they left, and Kitty and I went thru the house, looking for left items, it became clear, they had ALL, in mass, not only kept up after themselves, but had, en masses, made each an every bed. Kind of says it all.

The show? If I could dream, a dream, of night and magic and things that were possible, and it could be perfect, and rock like I see in my head... I do see such things. But only dreaming. Or not. Such shows ARE what dreams are made on. It happens, that all people are together, and that all go home happy together. And that is the BEST thing going.

If they come to your town, go and see them. If they want to stay with you, welcome them.

You will be happier for it.

Love and Touring Bands,
Lorraine

I'd welcome them too.
I am glad they made you happy.
Sweet dreams for now.

I went and watched all AP's videos tonight so I wouldn't feel 'left out' then I saw on her website that she is coming down here. Hoorah.
Perfect house guests - how good is that after the week you've had.
I hope Kitty and Kali made it home safely with all the storms, and all the kitties at Spooky Haus are going well

Jealous. :)

AFP was 3 hours away. At a time that I was 8 hours away. Fod did not like me for that one. So I bought myself the Dresden Dolls albums I didn't have in compensation, and now have Night Reconnaissance wandering idly through my head.

I'm watching a very pretty sunrise through my livingroom window, Morgan is purring near my ear, and I'm contemplating coffee. And wishing I had something really interesting for breakfast. Fortunately one of today's plans involves baking, so I can have something interesting tomorrow.

Aww, that's cool to hear that they're good houseguests. ;)

What's with the blizzards? What do blizzards even look like? The only Blizzard around here is the game company friends of mine work at. ;)

Dread Val, you don't want to see it - i woke up today to an additional 6 inches of snow, on top of yesterdays 6. its extremely windy. its extremely cold. driving is a nightmare, and the woodstove can't keep the house warm, and i have to keep a faucet running so the pump doesn't freeze. Actually, i wish you could be here to see it, i need help in getting thru the end of the semester, and you wield the minion whip well and are an artist, which could motivate some of my students,
glad you got home safe lorraine, and having afp and company for houseguests was delightful, what fun!

I have completely failed in my plan to get some writing done this morning, but look at this! DanGuy, you have offspring (singular or plura), right? Are they of the appropriate age? (I'm of the appropriate age, but there's an age group where even really freakin awesome kid's toys aren't acceptable.)

We've only had dustings of snow here and there thus far. I am afraid of Minnesota snow. I know there'll be a big one coming this way, sooner or later, and I'm not gonna be a happy bunny when it gets here. And even that won't be a patch on the stuff you guys get. June. Yeah. Minnesota in June sounds much better.

Hooray for fun houseguests! If Rock Stars make the beds, all is right with the world. :)

How are Mab and Lear settling in?

Those blocks are excellent!

Sadly, the blizzard has caught up with me here in Indiana. Have to resume the great glove hunt. (I've been looking for them for the last 2 days and I KNOW they are here somewhere.)

Glad to hear you made it safely through the storms Lorraine (and Kitty too, of course). Yay for wonderful houseguests and two shows of ROCK.:)

Sounds like a busy and good time for you, Q. I am glad it worked out so well!

Phiala, I think that those blocks may be something M needs for Channukah! Thanks for sharing them.

I was crying to a friend (and neighborg) last night about having to miss the show and stay in. On her way out she txted me to check in front of my door when I had a sec. I opened my front door and there was a bag with a box of chocolates and a bottle of wine!!! The milk of human kindness that is.

At 9:29 AM , Blogger gaypet said...

Hm, what exactly is a neighborg? I meant neighbor. Although neighborg is funny. Milk of human kindness doesn't really work if she is a neighBORG.

At 9:37 AM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

Maybe your neighbour is of Swedish origin?

At 9:55 AM , Blogger AletaMay said...

Gayle -- love the neighborg! I swear fiends make the best typos ever.

The snow was bad in the city just as I was going to the show. I did miss the art gallery -- the show is there all month though so I'll make it eventually. By the time I left First Ave the snow had moved on. and the roads were not toooo bad. I am a winter driving wimp.

The show really was magical. I love the music by itself but I really love the whole theatricality of the live show. It was great to see Q and her friend. She's right -- I did have a great seat. Well worth the $$ to have a spot to sit! (Sorry Jess) I did fall flat on my face as I walked toward my table when I first arrived. Hidden step down. Nothing like making an entrance!

I'll post some photos on Facebook later today -- tomorrow at the latest.

Phiala; I have to order some for my ownself. Those are the coolest things ever. Now if we could get Gorey to do something like the 'Sorry' game wouldn't that be a riot!

*rolls dice...5 "lose your leg & hop backward 3 spaces...* DANG! Sorry!!!or we could yell "GOREY"!

Glad Kitty is off to Cali with Kali! Hopefully landed safely & getting accustomed. Poor cat will probably have to shed half her 'it's freezing where I used to live' fur in the first hour!

Q: you have a such an interesting life; what's a little sacrifice to the sleep Fods if you get to have AP as a house guest! Did she ever find her other jacket she lost? It was so cute!!!

Morning Fiends!

Val, blizzard, when driving looks like the shot in Star wars where the Millennium Falcon goes into Hyperdrive. You can't see anything, no fun. Now there is a TON of snow , could not get up the drive, but managed to park on the right side of the street, no ticket, but the plows plowed my car in. WHY if there are these regs, doesn't the city simply plow the empty side, then the other the next night?????

Hummph.

Aleta, we need these pics, I didn't take any myself. Kitty did some GREAT shots of me before the show last night, which I am hoping she will send me shortly. No word yet, but I am thinking she is still sleeping wit the little Kali.

I slept half the night with the King and Queen and half with Venus and Mim, no Royalty came out, but woke with Venus and Mim cuddled close.

Sleep is overrated. Not sure about the jacket, Stacy, it's not at the house, that I can tell you. Where do you people GET this news?????

At 10:10 AM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

How are you going to drive to your gig tonight?

At 10:15 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Ah, no problem driving tonight. The thing with snow here is , we know it s coming and are ready, roads are cleared now,

Until next time.

I am glad we had no gig last night, no one would have been there, in that storm, no one was going out to Stillwater...

At 10:20 AM , Blogger EmilyLady said...

Sleep is NOT overrated. I feel so much better after a full night' rest, but it seems that that's difficult to acheive at my age. I love sleep. Sleep rocks. (Too much, of course, is bad.)

At 11:00 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Way to remember!

s far as gloves go, don't hunt for them, buy 20 or so pairs at the start of winter. You will lose them all, but hey...

Neighborg - perfect description for my neighbors who opened their back door (directly on the other side of our bedroom door) and chatted loudly from 4am, and finished off with blastingly loud music from sometime before 7am to about 7.30 am. Hence I am up before 8am on a Sunday morning.
Whinge over.
Gayle, that was lovely over your very kind neighbor.
Phiala, those blocks are brilliant and have been passed on to my mad scientist friend with growing family

Ahh, Aleta, that's the sort of entrance I'm known for *grin*

Quiche, I think neighborgs are driving your snow clearing equipment.

Need sleep, having tea instead.

neighBORGs. resistance is futile.

I read on AFP's site last night there was to be a shindig at your Boss's house. What lovely houseguests! What good fun and fiends the fods have sent you FabLo! And the Kitties Royal - I'm in awe and think it must be amazing to do Good for these critters. Are the fish ponds installed yet? Will Venus and Mim be getting one, too? :)

Phiala - those blocks are pure (evil) genius. Thanks for linking.

Gloves. I have this season thus far lost two gloves. I hunted for either well beyond a reasonable length of time. Finally I realized I still had the left one from one pair, and the right one from another. But I'm right now going out to hunt for snow boots, and the stockpiling of gloves makes a lot of sense, so I may look for more of those while I'm at it.

At 3:13 PM , Blogger vampi said...

i'm looking for the fingerless gloves in a non itchy material. they keep my office so cold, i want gloves for my office. Los Angeles is not a good place to look for gloves. i've found some but ther are too garish or made out of acrylic and too fuzzy. my mom is allergic to acrylic, and i'm not, but it does bother over extended periods. target had some that looked ok, like wrist warmer type, but they were like fuschia, and i was hoping for a black or dark blue.

I know-- it was a groundbreaking show. I just look back now and think it's amazing how a production on a shoestring budget like that could get laptops-- and it was, what, 1986 or something? Wow.

There was that one episode, with the Reeves's Muntjac in the bathtub. Remember? Or was that on Webster? I may be confusing the two.

Spent the day trying to read the room the christmas tree goes in for the christmas tree. It had become the storage area, aka piles of crap room. Getting there!

I LOVE those blocks!! I sent the link to hubby, maybe we can get them for Ben.

Wish i could teleport to MN for the show! I'm here complaining it's cold out when it dips into the 40s, i'm' sooo never heading east in the winter!

Have to get back to my xmas present project. I'm drying lemon verbena from my garden and making little booklets with recipes to go with the jars of leaves. I'm also drying marjoram but finding it takes an awful lot of fresh marjoram to get enough dried to fill the little jars i got!

At 7:54 PM , Blogger Jess said...

I can't believe none of you remember Monkey Shines. It won an Emmy and everything. Robert Guillaume used to turn up on it a lot-- he was the mailman. Kind of like Newman in Seinfeld. Surely you remember it! It's all coming back to me, I can tell you.

A muntjac once wandered through my back yard, when we were living over in the UK. 100% fact! We thought it was a baby deer at first.

Chantrelle, that's a neat gift idea. Photos, perchance? :) I love stuff like that. We do little gift bags with coffee and stuff in them for people every year.

The only series I remember Nancy McKeon being in were Facts of Life and The Division. Facts of Life ran from 1979 to 1988.

I went to bed at 9 PM last night. I fell asleep during the last 15 or so minutes of Stargate: Atlantis, then started shivering when I woke up enough to tell DH where the Benedryl was, so I took myself to bed. Didn't get out of bed until around 8 AM, mainly because my back hurt from being in bed that long. Unfortunately, I woke up 3-4 times during the night to drink some water because my mouth and throat were so dry I could hardly swallow.

Hope the gig is going well!

At 9:28 PM , Blogger Na said...

Fiendish fiends. I could not for the life of me remember a show called Monkey Shines either. Followed the rabbit hole of the internet...

Chantrelle have you finished wrestling your tree into it's new spot? I also cleared out a similar room this week - and now we have an official music room! It has a keyboard (no chair), a music stand, one acoustic guitar, and a steel drum (no stand). Er. And a few boxes of junk still. And a couple of blankets. Heh heh. So I guess it's a Music Room with Stuff. Hmm. Hope you got yours more thoroughly cleared!

Hi Lexocat! *waving back* Happy Black Books watchin'.

I just realized I've had a very fiend-inspired evening - watched "Stardust" with the family, and purchased WKAP earlier.

At 9:54 PM , Blogger ariandalen said...

Oh, na, I'm so glad I'm not alone. ;)

I'm all right. It has gotten cold, for Texas, so I'm wanting to hibernate. There is a tree that is commonly known as mountain cedar in Texas, though it's actually ash juniper. It tends to bloom when it gets really cold at night. This doesn't usually happen until late December through February, but some of the trees may be getting a head start. It has really nasty pollen; if you aren't allergic to it when you move here, you will be in about three years. The pollen has these nasty barbs on it. It also happens to be the nesting habitat for the golden-cheeked warbler.

At 10:03 PM , Blogger Na said...

That's the "cedar fever", ya? I never had allergies until we lived in Texas, and yep, that got me right on schedule, about two 1/2 years after we moved there. Molds were worse for me. My sympathies! Unfortunately I once took Motrin for the accompanying sinus headache and thusly discovered that that gives me hives. Not a good week, that one.

At 10:27 PM , Blogger ariandalen said...

I can imagine!
I forgot that you had lived in Austin. Cedar Fever can get really bad there, not that it's good in Waco. And the mold does get really bad; there was one year in the mid-1990s, I believe, where the mold count in Waco was over 24,000. No, that's not a typo, and it was in the summer. I pretty much stayed on antihistamines that year.

Somewhere along the line I got tired of taking antihistamines all the time, and just quit. Now I'll only take them if I think it's really bad. I'm not there yet.

At 10:43 PM , Blogger Na said...

Oof. More (will) power to you. I know some people can get annual shots for some types of allergies. Not for cedar or mold, I suppose?

At 10:44 PM , Blogger ariandalen said...

Night, everybody!

At 10:49 PM , Blogger ariandalen said...

My allergies have never been bad enough for allergy shots. Those are more for people who have year round allergies. Mountain cedar is seasonal, like ragweed but a different season. Dust and mold are year round, though there are people who are allergic to darn near everything. I'm not one of them.

That was one of the best Coulton challenges ever, "write a song in the style of a sitcom theme."

Need to catch up on my season 2 Black Books.

Ariandalen just reading about that pollen makes my nose itch in sympathy! What always got me, in the desert, were those awful palm trees that drop their pollen in September. Benadryl was so my friend.

Myself- I just got home from work and I'm trying to wind down enough to sleep and sleep fast- I need to be back there @ 9:00 a.m.

I'm so glad they were good guests....anything else could color your viewpoint, so the magic remains intact,

We had about 1"-1.5" of fluffy snow (it looked like it was snowing to beat hell last night, but it was really just fluffing) and the roads weren't bad.

Oh! The reindeer 5k was run today around Lake Harriet and afterwards we had a group of about 8 runners come in...in cow costumes.
They even sang cow carols in the pub. Awesome. :D
