Death Cake!!!!!!!!!
I was walking around the grocery store and trying to think what to serve my Guest tonight for dessert, as obviously I do not have time (Or inclination) to MAKE anything.
Then, there it was. A Death Cake.
I laughed so hard. The store people laughed. I said "What the heck IS this? A funeral cake???? Something special for us Gothy types who can't let go of Halloween? Nothing screams Thanksgiving like a Death Cake!"
It was quite the Adventure, this Thanksgiving shop, check this out:
Au Gratin Potatoes! Says so right on the box! Who knew potatoes came in boxes????
And no meal would be complete without Hors-de-vors! (Hey, kitty requested them)
And of course, a full array of impenitents to cook them with.....
Now, back to check on the updates, I am loving this Fiendsish Thanksgiving! And very thankful of all of the Fiends!
Love and Death Cake,
Lorraine

Impressive!
First! First
Actually I have this theory that the person who does the cakes over at your shop (or for it) is a lurker here and just KNEW you needed a special cake for a special occasion.
Sniff. Or 2nd. 2nd is right after first.
Great cake. And skull. Has Kitty arrived yet?
Enjoy he cake, and the turkey, and the Kitty
That's quite gorgeous for a Death Cake! I'll trade you some, er, other stuff for some.
yeah deathcake!!!!
love the implements... never know when you are going to need a pitchfork to hold down the meat or a skeleton arm to stir with.
have fun.
You may be right, Nathilie, it DID kind of seem to be waiting for me, and there was only the one...
No, Kitty doesn't get in for a few hours yet....Pries went WAY down on later fligts today.
My point exactly, Rubious, you just never knw. Best to be preparred for any eventuality...
Uh, we haven't heard from Dread Val in a while.....
I want cake!!!
It's been a day - the friend in hospital wasn't getting out, so I went to visit and while there they said 'You are getting out' and so I got her out, and took her to dinner with Pa and finally got her home and I'm home and it wasn't the day I expected, but she's home and that's got to be good.
However, I was so present in her moments that I forgot to be present in my own, and don't feel like I've had a Thanksgiving Meal, and there's nothing fun here to eat, so I'll have to figure out how to brighten my own dinner. I can do that!
But BOY, I want that cake!!
Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate it - how long until Kitty? We are all so excited - thank fod for good Midwest Weather.
Good job Siri.
btw... Thanksgiving tip... if you don't want cranberry but still want that sweet/tart taste try Pomegranate... it is the right blood red and kinda emulates cranberries.
Maybe Val is out looking for a death cake of her very own?
Siri, sorry to hear you've not feeling you've had a proper celbratory meal. Anything in the freezer you can add garlic and wine and herbs to, to cheer it up?
Maybe that turkey is part of the Cabal's cabal and got the better of Val?
I could do with some cake too.
Memo to those in charge of such things, RE: The FIends: Let them eat cake!
I slay myself.
Siri, hang out with us, we are having a proper Thanksgiving.
I picture Dread Val battleing with this turkey, wrapped in dental floss, fighting to the bitter end....
Hmmm - there just might be some champagne in the fridge - there's left over toad in the hole from last night, and some spanakopata (sp? - too lazy to go look it up) I can do this.
I too am a little worried about Val...and all of you who are cooking up storms.
Death Cake! How did they know?
My adventures are of the not-cooking variety today. Dropped Son+ off at Grandma's (some apprehension about being around his dad- hasn't actually seen him since last Christmas Eve) but lots o' cousins to buffer things.
Went to House of Wu to get duck- lots of cars in the parking lot, why not?
They were not actually open. It was apparently the whole local Chinese community picking up their T-Day dinners. Bah!
Hrm I thought- will my holiday dinner consist of foraging in my cupboards? They are sadly bare, I've been working too much to stock up.
But no! Silly Beez! I live just up the road from the fabled Eat Street. I took my adventure to Shuang Hur Food Market (which was packed, me being the only Caucasian in the store) and got fresh sweet yams to bake and crispy 5 spice barbequed duck and lily flower sweets.
I am a happy woman. I need to go back there when I have a whole day to shop. the place is incredible!
Beez, I will go with you! That market sounds wonderful! I didn't know about it, but I know where you are speaking of...
Hey, Siri, if you have champagne, you are SET!
I'm just sayin'! It is in there, and will be in me, before the end of the day!
Quicie, we wil explore.
It has everything you could possibly want for cooking any kind of Asian food- Indian too I bet. Also anything you didn't even know you wanted, and pots! knives! dishes!, 5-level bamboo steamers!
I saw a wok big enough to take a bath in if you are so inclined.
Oh yeah- mangoes by the case.
....just sayin'
Cases of Mangoes???? I am so there. LOVE shops like that....
I am going to move the may yet be living ficas, and the poop-wheel and set the table...
ah you see I pictured it with VAL all trussed up in floss and the belligerent turkey holding her down and flossing HER teeth yelling 'how would you like some floss!!! huh!!! how do you YOU like it!!'
not that I don't think Val could totally pwn a turkey.
and don't ask me how the turkey is yelling... I don't want to know which orifice it is using.
Fritos for hors douvres, deathcake for dessert! Happy Fiendish Thanksgiving!
~Emily
hey Emily, if you reordered that it would be a haiku!!
Really?
Wow.
Thanks, Rubius.
~Emily
That was great visuals, Kristina. and I just saw it drawn by Tex Avery too, which would be perfect for the scene too (and Val as some sort of Little Red Hot Riding Hood)
ACK! Awesome Death Cake - but relatives have started to arrive!
Love the cake!
Val may have her own troubles, but mine are worse.
Let sleeping ficas's lie!!!!!!
Forgot the tree went UP, and it took down a vase of black roses, and my skelly hand pedastal thing from the top of a skeloton cabinit, THEN realized tho the plant was dry there was water in the BOTTOM, and it went everywhere, and what few leaves it had left all came down.
The Bengals of course, loved this.
Hmmph.
Whispered voice on the Wind: "Make a Death Cake today."
Bakery employee: "Think I'll make a Death Cake today."
Got the floss-netted turkey in the oven, still scheduling when to start the other items, and just realized we need to wash all the fancy china I got out for the occasion. Whoops! Trying out a recipe for Lime Butter Mashed Yams.
Water in the bottom just may be the reason for the death of the plant in the first place. It could have rotted the root system... even while the plant was starving for water.
roots rot if you don't let the water drain away from the bottom of hte plant when you water it... which I personally know is NOT EASY with an indoor tree.
sorry to hear about the death of that lovely ficus. I thought it was a beautiful plant.
Yeah, Nat, that is exactly the animation type I pictured it in too.
I think that Death cake will do brilliantly for our Christmas, to be celebrated with my goth friend. Must copy pic and remember.
Siri - you are a start. I hope you managed to have something yummy
Nathalie, I haven't seen that Red Riding Hood for yonks. Cool.
hrm- I have seen ficus "shock out" from being brought back indoors and lose all their leaves, only to have regrowth start up again- don't give it up for lost quite yet.
The Ficas is NOT dead! It just goes a little, uh, dormant, in the winter. The bottom thing was too small for the pot, so the pot sort of sat on top of it, and it could not reach the water. I put it in a bigger tub and put it in th eRomance Room, where it can get some light.
Such cooking!!!!!!! I only hope Kitty is WAY impressed with all of my efforts.
I even out up spider lights and a Xmas tree, which I never do, the tree part. Someone gave it to me, years ago, and I have never had it out of the box, it is wonderful, only three feet high, and it changes colours.
Kitty likes such things. I want her to feel at home.
What's funy, is thatnow it is up, Ikind of like it. Not taking it down. I don't dcorate seasonally. Once something is UP it stays UP!!!!!!
I want Lime Yams! Fods. Dishes.
Leaving in about 15 minutes to get Kitty!!!!!
Moved the Poop-wheel with no CATastrophe....
just as a point... my friend's dwarf hamsters poop on their wheel too.
Good to hear it isn't dead. Dead plants make me sad... but if it was where I think it was... it surely does need more light at this time of the year.
safe driving!!
Plants do end to do better with light, good point Rubious, it was in the dinning room, by the window whose shade is always down.
I am off!!!!!! See you Fiends in a couple house with the Kitty!!!!!!!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
That is the bestest cake!! Just needs some oreo crumb mounds for graves!
Turkey eaten, dishes done, leftovers in the fridge, carcass in the pot on the stove simmering away. And we've just gotten to the battle of Helm's Deep, because I took a two hour nap and Dan was sweet enough to stop the movie until i was back up.
I always have tears in my eyes in that scene -especially when they find the gave....
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Ms. Fablo, I hope that Miss Kitty arrived safely and that y'all are eating soon. I am back from our foray into parent and family land, and it was . . . odd. Sweet at times, way shorter than normal, no one talked about anything in particular (and nothing confrontational, thankful to say!), and my mom cried when I left, which made me saddish. And I have TonO'Leftovers, which taste so delicious and I'm planning on eating for a long time and then looking at my homework.
Hope everyone has/had a lovely day! Safe travels to you all who are still on the road.
I want the Death Cake. Just sayin'.
Right, back now. The turkey was dominated; the red chili oil with sage leaves made an excellent gravy for it as well. Best Friend totally failed at his stuffing-making, though. I made blueberry pie, and mashed yams with garlic.
Had a very cryptic message from Malena earlier saying, 'Sorry about all this,' to which I replied, 'Sorry about what, exactly?' So we shall see what's up there. Now I must go make myself look presentable so I can head on over.
How is Kitty-fetching going?
Oh yes, and the Death Cake looks awesome. :)
Why do the Bengals love your ficus so?
That Death Cake is sweet! (And hopefully not poison.)
mmmm.....sweet sweet Death Cake
Glad to see you survived the turkey wrestling Val.
red chili oil w/sage...
mmmmm.......
yum.....
The Kitty is here!!!!!We had our app of soup and now are lying on the couch comtimplating MAYBEE eating the turkey, stuffing and AU GRATIN thingies.
Bengals and Selina Kyle are great. Selina Kyle is on the table finnishing off the bread, while Mim and Venus are holding out for turkey.
No one pooped on the Poop wheel.
And oh Fods, there's the Death Cake.
Death Cake w/red chili oil. That sounds even better than Zippy food.
And (just sayin') kinda LIKE snacking on Ding Dongs and Tabasco sauce....
Happy Kitty Arrival!
Much congrats for safe travel. And best wishes for seriously enjoying your sojourn -- as of course you will!!
Ho-ho'sso kick Ding Dongs Butt, just so's you know....Not tried them with tabasco, admittadly.....
We are abandoning the eat at the table bit and have jammy-ed and are going to watch Top Chef with the Foo Fighters....
Hey, did you TIVO that Top Chef? I missed it last night, and was seriously disappointed....but can't find it on tonight's DirectTV schedule.
The Ozzy Osbourne Samsung phone texting commercial just came on (where he can't be understood, so he texts his coffee order, taxi directions and even what he wants to tell his psychiatrist) .....anyone else think this is one of the most hilarious commercials ever while still feeling vaguely guilty?
Oh, Zippy the Pinhead used to eat Ding Dongs with Tabasco sauce.
I just saw that commercial. I think it's hilarious, and I don't feel the least bit guilty.
The kid likes the Ozzy WoW one better.
Hey- I just noticed I got red chili oil with my duck.
Must be a fiend thing.
I did Tivo it, it was great! I love that show. And oh, yeah, that commercial was really funny....
We took a movie of Mim stealing turkey and me trying to keep my plate safe, but laughing too hard to do it, we'll post it tomorrow, sooooonnnn Death Cake!
Mim Movie Madness!
I'm going to have to google-cate those ads, they sound full of Ozzie awesomeness.
Glad to hear Kitty has arrived safely and you're having fun.
Why didn't I tell P to get some turkey for dinner so I can pretend I'm having a belated TG dinner?
Saw the ad - that's so cool, but how come I understood him?
Oh Sally I fear for you! (very few people can understand Ozzie!)
YAY! The T-Day shindig was successful! the 25 lb (no, it's not a typo) turkey was moist and beautiful - Yay me!!!!
I am SO tired. I almost took a picture of the mass destruction that was (ok IS) my kitchen , but I just can't sustain the energy!
Kitty - I would LOVE to talk to you about the "True Blood" finale.. have you seen it yet???
Oh and did I say how AWESOME your death cake looks?
I know Ticia, I fear for me....scary.
I'm going to have a True Blood marathon tonight when P visits a friend
Yay Sally! Do the marathon and then let me know - we'll talk!
Sounds like a lovely slumber party Q, Kitty and the cats are having!
I am very grateful for all the Fiends. You make me smile every day.
Good night!
Lorraine, what is that incredible skull with the spigot on it for? {in the frito picture). It looks too small to be a water dispenser.
Oh, and I just created a stupid blog just for fiends that want to comment on True Blood without ruining it for anyone else! :-D
I'm new to the blog creation thing - so just click on my name id thingie and it will show you the blog place.
Good night Aleta May! I am grateful to the fiends as well!
Ticia--yay for you!! Twenty five pounds would equal both our house felines put together (hmm--perhaps not the best basis for comparison :()
D-Sal--yes, be worried. I only understand what he's saying if I'm doing something else in the room and not really paying attention. Much like understanding Kenny in a South Park episode.
Can't stop thinking about Lime Yams....THANKS, Q!!
Ahhh, that explains it Lys, I was sitting here all bleary. Phew.
The skull thing IS a water dispenser, my Sister made it for me, she is a potter you know and can make anything.
It does look small, but it works, I worry with Bengal and the big jugs tho, so I do little ones, or just have it around.
Serious couch and fire here a the Spooky House! We are ALMOST too to tired for Death Cake!
Lys - that makes perfect sense....
And I have never cooked a turkey before - so I was nervous.
Well, that must be wonderful Lorraine, to have a sister that can make you a skull water dispenser...
It is wonderful to have a sister who will make me a skullwater disspenser, and I will tell you all something else wonderful, and that is pottery things are her business, and she would be happy to make any Fiends Skull water dispenser too.
Or plates, bowls, signs, if you can dream it, she can make it out of pottery.
Oooh you intrigue me Lorraine... but I have bengals to donate to before I feed my love of pottery...
I feel like such a naughty schoolgirl! My in-laws are still here, and I keep sneaking off to read and post to you fiends!
tee-hee!!!
Hurrah for Naughty Fiends! Sneak away and join us!!!!!!!!
The Death Cake Rocked.
the Ghost Graveyard Cake was a four star confection.
except i got the freezer burn ice cream out,
DOH.
Grateful for such good friends...
xoxo from the Quiche couch.
Ticia, great idea, since many haven't watched...
i will float over to your True Blood blog as soon as I land from the sugar rush..
Okay - my night is made. I was asking around and everyone here had seen the Ozzie commercial - except me.
I was feeling kind of sorry that I Tivo through all commercials until my father-in-law just called me into the front room.... The Ozzie commercial was on! Now I've seen it too, without compromising my Tivo integrity! And Sally, you should still be afraid....
I would love to see you there Kitty! It's a small intimate soirée ...
Oh Lys, I didn't make the lime yams, that was someone else...
I meant to say goodnight to Aleta too, might be too late now (Night Aleta)
Wasn't Kitties fault about the ice cream. We could have gone back for the new but it was too far away. (asement freezer hee-hee)
The Ozzy commercial is worth a little comprimise...Hurrah for Tivo tho!!!!!!!!
May be last deep thought for the evening
And oh, I think it is Nathilie's Birthday!!!!!! Happy Birthday Nathilie!!!!! Hope your day is a fine one!
It really is a lovely cake. :)
::pout::
::sigh::
nobody realized I was quoting "Alice's Restaurant."
::sight::
I'm still thankful for everyone here. :)
Happy Birthday, Nathalie!
Oh thank Fod! The last of my relations has left the building!
Because of TIVO, I find myself looking for "rwd" and "pause" buttons on my radio when I am listening to NPR. When will all forms of entertainment bow to the superior design of TIVO????
Happy Birthday Nathalie!
Sorry Ariandalen!
Natal Day Felicitations, Nathalie!!!!

Happy Birthday Nathalie!
Good night dear Fiends!
Good mornevening and many thanks, fiends!
Hope everyone's having a great thanksgiving.
For lovers of red wine, Penfolds is always a good drop, but Penley Shiraz has to be my favourite and it's only $40.AUD. (which is probably nothing to the US dollar right now!).
My favourite Red wine area is Coonawarra in South Australia, which is where Penley is from. So, if you ever get the chance, do yourself a favour and buy a case.
Now I'll leave with a haiku
It is always safe
to comment on Quiche's blog
I wish you ALL well.
PS: A very Happy Birthday Nathalie :) Hope your day is as perfect as your photos.
Anybody here?
Just been talking to my mum in emergency department. They think she might have had a stroke, guys came to collect her for a CT scan as we were talking. She sounds okay but her left side is all weak and she couldn't lift arm or leg or something else when asked.
Pete's out, and I'm in tears and, ah, pretty freaked out
Hey Sally,
I'm so sorry to hear about your mum. If it's slight weakness, she should be ok within weeks.
Does she have a history of high blood pressure?
and diabetes, and a number of other health conditions.
Glad you're around Jac
It's crap when these things happen and you're by yourself and at nighttime. Everything always seems worse at nighttime.
It's a good sign she can talk ok, because that can be one of the first things to go.
It's like anything we do to our bodies when we hurt them, it may look and sound really bad, but in time it heals.
true, hopefully
Sorry to read this, Sally. She should get better, those things can be recovered. *Hugs*
When will you be able to get to see her Sally? Is she in Melbourne or in the country?
Thanks Nathalie...I think not being there makes it worse, she's a few hours drive away
She's in Bendigo Jacq
My father in law in dying three hours away so I know the feeling. Thank goodness Cesare is able to be there while I stay behind.
oh god, hugs for you guys as well
Pete has just arrived home, phew. hugs for me now. Much Better
Hopefully, I'm over death for this year. I'm sorry to hear about your husband's father as well Nathalie. I hope he doesn't suffer too much.
If it were my father-in-law, I'd probably be dancing on the rooftops and then dance on his grave. His a small minded, bigoted, religiously fanatical hypocrite. And I'm being nice!
He has diabetes, so I always take him chocolate when we visit. They are the best chocolates, though. After all, cruelty is not in my nature!
C'mon, what a way to go. Death by chocolate!
YAY! hugs for you Sally :)
Val here...
Sally, hang in there, and my best wishes to your mum. It's so hard to not be able to help when a loved one's in hospital. Nathalie, I'm sorry to hear about your father-in-law; I hope that goes as well as it can.
I'll keep you all in my thoughts.
now here's the wide awake Malena...
hey dorkus Dev! Bet you're in bed right now. Uh huh. If you were here you know I'd be talking to you as you slept and I'd poke you and say, Dev! It's only 3 am girl, come on!
Loved the death cake. I'm jealous, VERY VERY jealous. Love the pan rack. It looks familiar. he hee
Looks like you two are really cooking some serious food. he hee We send love and girlie madness!
Malena
Ha, I'm me again.
You know, it's one thing to say Happy Thanksgiving, and list what you're grateful for -- and quite another to have it brought home to you by external circumstances. It's hard to focus and keep in mind what's important. It's sobering.
On to happier things. Like hitting 100 comments, perhaps...
With tragedy and sadness hitting some of you we just want to continue to say we love you. And, 100 comments on Thanksgiving is giving the fiends a thank you. And to you, Queen Fiend, I was just telling Val how funny you are on stage. All Quiche needs is a mic.
So if your nose is itching, your ears are ringing or you are feeling a ghost in the room, It's just us.
The Teves household rocks. Malena and I keep getting sidetracked talking about so many different things tonight. Miles' art is blowing me away; I knew he was good, but I had no idea he was THAT GOOD. So trying not to melt down into a puddle of fangirl has been a bit difficult, but I hope I managed.
Hrm. Now there is talk of photos being taken...
Just spoke to mum again, she's had the scan, but hasn't been given any results. She's got a stinking headache she said and is feeling worse by the minute, so she's in the right place.
I'll let you know more in the morning, when I hear more.
Your support means so much to me everyone, I've had tears of gratitude tonight as well because of you.
ok, photos? of us at, let's see...3:33 am. You are on Val. We have to make a 100 comments.
Hail to the Blog Queen!
NOw what could I do to myself to make a really em-BARE-ASSing photo...
We'll give you the link. I can't put the photos of me on my blog because that's Malena Inc. Here I am Malena, your friend..fiend. So, Off to put a carrot in my nose!
carrots and noses eh.
See, you guys can make me laugh no matter what! ♥
Here are the photos promised. Girl's just wanna have fun. So, here we are crazy on turkey day, which has nothing to do with turkeys.
Vals says,
BUT they will cheer you up. They will make you scratch your head and go, WT*!
Good morning to you all!
*hugs* for Dragonsal and Nathalie
I'm sorry you are going through this. It's such a feeling of helplessness.
Malena- you were saying something about a carrot up your nose? Yes?
*waits*
Sally, I hope you have good news soon!
Nathalie, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I am sorry to hear about your Father-in-law. I hope you have a lovely, peaceful day.
Thanks for the photos, Malena and Val. Looks like you had a great time.
Hurray for Fritos and Death Cake! Here is to Quiche and Kitty having a fun day today.
Thanks fiends.
I have to protest against the lack of carrots in those pictures. Which make it look like you had TONS of fun (as it should be).
Oh, Sally, I hope she recovers quickly and completely!
And Nat-law, happy birthday.
And I'm sorry to hear of your father in law. And the combination of the two occurrences.
Sal, my toughts are with oyu, keep us posted on your Mom, there are always Fiends around. Big hugs!
You tooo Nathilie, and again, Happy Birthday! WIll you do something lovely this evening in Rome?
Looks like Malena and Val had some all night fun! Very silly girls!I liked the pictures, but did noticed a lack of carrotts as well...
Kitty and I will post our Thanksgiving movie later today, she is still sleeping, don't bother with popcorn, it's what we in the bussiness call a "Short"
I feel, as an actress, I brought a lot to my role. I play a women trying to keep her Thanksgiving dinner away from a Bengal!
My motivation was clear, and director/cameraperson Kitty was clear in her indtructions tho I had a bit of a time explaining that Mim was not going to wait for her to call ROLLING, but this was an on-going process and she had bettr just jump in.
Hope all you Fiends had a good day and are enjoying time off today, or if you are far away, that all news and Birhdays are good.
oh Sally, I am so sorry this happened while you were home alone. I'm sending you warm wishes and a big hug! And Olivia (dog) sends healing love over the seas.
Nathalie, my warm wishes and hugs go out to you and yours as well!
I am on my own so I shall most likely stay at home (and besides I have not celebrated my birthday for years).
I still have some fine Chianti to dominate so shall do so. There is still some nice food from yesterday to eat and plenty of cats willing to clamber all over me (if only to get at the food).
I would not even have know it was your Birthday but FAcebook popped it up somewhere, NAthilie.
Food? Wine? Cats? Alone? And who amongst us thinks this is in any way a bad idea???
Three of the four cats in this house have had turkey and are now lying happily by the fire. The 4th, Le LEopard, has had turkey, and a loveyly hiss at me. I told him I loved him and he was my solace, but not sure it penetrated yet.
We are with you Nathalie.:)
Looking forward to the movie, Q and Kitty.
Oh, it is a fine movie! The drama! The chase! The hunt! Hot women in ssexy PJ's! Bengals ripping and tearing into dead turkeys!!!!
You can do a LOT in ten seconds!!!!
Kitty is still sleeping. It IS kind of early, I admit, but we were taost by midnight.
Did see the Alan Moore, Art Spiegalman South Park tho, FODS, I laughed!
DOH, it was Simpsons, not South Park, ya silly Devs.
and don't forget Dan Clowes, a comic book dream. EIGHT BALL! GHOST WORLD! except Boss was very missing.
Sally, your Mom is in my thoughts and wishes for a complete recovery. I have not had to walk down that road and I don't know how I will be able to. Drawing strength from friends is our best bet.
as for the nutso Fairyland Ranch girls, that is one non-traditional Thanksgiving, ladies!
the Bengal movie is going to be up shortly.
Wishing healing and comfort to you and your families, Sally and Natalie.
FabLo, it looks like you were Taoists by midnight.
The Butter Lime Mashed Yams was me. Discovered that the recipe was little vague but good. Can edit and post.
Meanwhile, felt like sharing this poem that I found scribbled on a scrap of paper this morning, from D.H Lawrence:
I own
part of the sun
as my eye
is part of me.
That I am
part of the earth
my feet know
perfectly, and
my blood is
part of the sea.
My soul knows
that I am
part of
the human race.
Lovely poem, Na. Thanks!
I've been away from t'interwebs all day - such a lot of comments o catch up on!
Sally, so sorry to hear about your Mum - particularly hard that you were alone when you heard. I do hope that you are able to see her soon, and that news is better. I'm sure it's a good sign that she was able to talk to you herself. I'm glad there were fiends here when you needed them.
Nathalie, Happy Birthday (even if it is almost over and you're not celebrating)
Malena - looks as if you & Val had fun, even without carrots..
Looking forward to Kitty & Quiche's film.
I spent 5 hours in court today. By 3 p.m we were arguing over a microwave. There are times I wonder why I spent 4 years at university...
I shall definately be dominating some wine tonight.Am I drinking alone? Nathalie? Louisa?
I am definitely drinking.
Who needs love when there's Wallace and Gromit?
Who needs love when there's good wine (damnit)?
Who needs love when the internet is hot and there loads of fiends around?
We love you , Nathilie!
And Sally wasn't ALONE exactly, she had Fiends!
SO there.
Kitty and I are going to post the movie now, and then do a wee bit of shopping that must needs be done....
Oh, I liked the poem too, Na. You have a lovely sense for finding words...
I wonder if Chantrelle found mushrooms?
Yes, i love the poem, too. Thanks for posting it Na.

I've just had a lovely game of "chase the cork" with the kitties and 3 of them joined in while the snob one (Ansia) probably regretted her position about "mingling with the peasants". We had loads of fun.
Excellent. Tybalt & I just had a quick game of 'chase the bacon', (He won, by the way)
Chinks glass
Glad the poem is goodful. It tickled me, and I'm using it as a mantra today.
Oooh, I look forward to hearing about mushroom hunting too. That sounds so, so cool.
Here's the yams recipe. At least, here's the original ingredients (mostly), with directions modified after trying it out:
Lime Butter Mashed Yams
1 large yam
2 tbsp butter
salt and pepper to taste
1 lime
pinch sugar (I used raw sugar, the brown turbinado kind)
Peel and slice the yam(s) into 1-inch cubes. Place in casserole dish, adding just enough water to cover the bottom. Cover with tin foil and roast in a 350 F/ 175 C oven for approx 45 minutes to and hour, or until very tender. Remove from oven. There should only be about a tbsp or less of liquid in the dish - if there is more, pour out the excess. Add the butter , salt and pepper, and mash gently. Zest the lime directly into the yam mixture, then cut lime in half and squeeze in juice of one half. Add a pinch of sugar. Taste and adjust seasonings, adding more lime if you wish. If preparing more than one yam at a time, increase seasonings proportionately.
Miam. That recipe sounds perfect.
Happy Birthday Nat-law! And my thoughts are with you and yours in this transitional time.
Sally. Hope all is okay with your mom.
Poem was great!
Here is a YouTube channel with some lovely animal songs. Check it out.
Have you guys heard about this nightmarish event. Yet another good reason NOT to shop on this day.
Sally and Nat, sorry to hear about this. Hope you are doing alright. Know that isn't quite possible. With you.
Nat, Happy Birthday lovely one. Enjoy those cork games. Love your poem. Is it inspired by Leeds United, by any chance?
Malena and Val, glad you had a fabuloso time. Nice pics.
Lorraine and Kitty, hope you are having a blast. Looking forward to the vids... remember you promised us running bengal vids put to the Fox song.
Aleta, yikes. That's freaking scary. Crowds kinda suck.. as do psycho shoppers.
Na, love the poem. Has anyone here read D.H. Lawrence's Etruscan Places? It is a fine read.
I'm not actually sad about the lack of carrot photo... I could happily miss seeing that.
Absolutely.
I was listening to that song in the car driving back from work.
:)
Right now I am making popcorn to get some animal attention back. Microbetta is already fascinated by the popping sound...
I have no car in which to listed to it but I have been bouncing off of Leeds United since I first heard it. Love it.
It is great but then again every single song on the album is superb.
Microbetta wants to dive into the popcorn bowl.
I'm gonna have to agree on that one. Fresh popcorn is so great. I don't have a popper and I have been missing it lately. Microwave popcorn is NOT THE SAME... by a MILE.
I remember stringing unbuttered popcorn for christmas tree decorating years ago. Boy was that ever messy and it took forever and you had to be excruciatingly precise or the kernal was wasted... and it didn't even look nearly as nice as I hoped it would. It's a good thing it was my idea and decision at the time or I would never have finished it.
Made a lovely rose pasta dish for my friend for dinner last night... but I wanted turkey (she's a vegetarian so no go last night).
But I'm making up for it with today's lunch... mashed potatoes and turkey with pomegranite juice to wash it down. The mashed potatoes are pre-made from the store (no it's not powdered dammit) and the turkey is pan-roasted sliced deli-meat but I DON'T CARE... I woke up this morning wanting turkey and it was the best I could do on short notice.
Death Cake is magnificent. Someone was inspired, that's for sure.
More hugs for for Dragonsally and Nathalie.
Though it wasn't Thanksgiving in Toronto, it was in my heart. I'm still American, and many of my loved ones were eating turkey somewhere, so it counts. I had Thanksgiving turkey here in October.
Also: To the woman who saw me trip and fall flat on my face on the sidewalk outside my house (I tried to miss the ground, and I failed), and then pulled up to the curb, asked if I was OK (I was) and offered me a ride down to the subway (I was obviously heading to the bus stop at the corner) and some baby wipes for my hands, and made me laugh on the two-minute ride down the road... thank you. From the bottom of my heart.
When I got out of the minivan at the subway and thanked her again, and she pulled away, I remember that it was my Thanksgiving Day. I smiled the whole way into the city.
Popcorn? Maybe it's movie night...
Bridget, what a great story! Glad you are ok too!
Trying to get the new blog with movie up...
Bridget - that woman obviously was a fiend at heart - what a joy.
"my blood is part of the sea"
How that resonates with me - I miss the ocean every day.
Sally - been hoping to hear from you, but think that no news is good news. Or at least, no news is no news.
Whew - glad the movie isn't up. I thought I'd somehow been excluded, just because I'd not been here for hours.
Also, how annoying is it for blogger to say "invalid password" when in reality it's my user ID I can't type correctly. Tell me what I'm really doing wrong, not where the disconnect is.
stooopid technology....
Sal and Nathalie, best wishes from the Fluffy Family in Texas. We hope you get some company and that everyone who's hurting gets relief.
It took me awhile to recover from too much of a good thing last night. It didn't SEEM like a lot of food, but when I still felt uncomfortable an hour after dinner I gave up and walked a few miles in the dark. With my trusty flashlight/deadly weapon. And iPod. Strangely, noone else felt inclined to join me. It did help, though. So did the large martini I got myself around.
Got to go take care of BF's kitty, Tigger (a mis-named little guy if there ever was one.)
Later, Fiendly Ones!
Bridget thanks for that story! It does a heart good.
Public Service Announcement:
The First showing of the long awaited Mim's Thanksgiving will be delayed approx. 2 hours, while Cat and Lorraine run a couple of errands.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause...
Well since I have to go to bed, I cheated and had a sneak peek already.
Shall read the post in the morning.
Byeeeeeeeeeee.
I lied. It's up....
Nathilie! You rascal!
Did someone mention drinking? Here is a glass raised to fiends around the world and our on going virtual party!
Thanks for the story Bridget. Nice to hear that kind of thing!
I think that was me with the drinking.. *raises glass*
Bridget, the story was heartwarming (and so glad you were OK) sometimes people surprise you in the best ways.
Fods I love you all Fiends, I truly wasn't alone last night - knowing someone would be there on the interwebs for me, and your hugs and love and laughter have brightened my morning, which started off with a very grumpy dragon woken by a SMS from a brother asking for news.
Phht, Why do they wait for me to do the ringing?
About to call the hospital, thought I'd wait until the staff have had a chance to do changeovers and catch ups and all that. I'd I'd had a chance to drink my tea will catching up on Fiendom.
Oh Malena, I love that your eyes are red in the first photo. They are all full of happiness making.
