(Strange) Love, Sweat and Horsies...

Ok, this may be a Horsie night, but we so have to start here, with Bengals. I believe we are going to have to consult Marilyn, the cat coach, for an exact explanation for this, but I am calling it "What the heck?????????"

Aww...It's Rommy thinking "Is this a carrot I see before me??"

I rode English tonight, which was at first, somewhat daunting, it's a whole different thing, and there is a lot less of it, but it all came back to me, and it is SO much easier than Western riding. It's almost like, if you can completely relax, you could float there forever. You can float for a long time, but walking on post-float jelly legs is not easy.

The action shots didn't turn out so well tonight, we will wait till Miss Kitty comes out for those, but Melissa did figure out the florescent lighting setting, which seemed to help quite a bit.

I like to call this the "It is really goofy to be hot and sweaty and cleaning up an even hotter and sweatier horse and have someone taking pictures of you that you know will shortly be seen around the world" shot.

And yet ANOTHER new and useful skill I have learned! I don't know why one uses them, or what they are called but I can now put on and take off leg wrap bandagy thingies!

I love this horse. I love the people there at the stable. I love riding. I am going to get fit, and learn to do this really well. I love this hair-do more than the day I got it.

I worked hard for it tonight.

Love and Sweat,
Lorraine

Lovely for you to be both getting fit and in such a beautiful way. Fiends commented on the real point of being fit, and I quite agree - it's about how it makes you feel.

At 9:37 PM , Blogger Lexocat said...

OMG! I laughed so hard at that "What the heck???????" picture! It really ought to come with a warning label or something. Ha!

Rommy just seems more and more wonderful with every picture and you seem to be having more and more fun. Hard work or not, the reward shows. Hooray!!

At 9:43 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Na, you got that right! It IS all about how you feel. Feels good I say.

Isn't that funny? Ilooked down last night and there Venus was, sitting on Mim's HEAD and upper half! Just as calmly as you please, she looked at me like "What? I can sit on her head if I want to.."

I am having mre and more fun. No more riding tho until Sunday, rats. Gigs Friday and Saturday, which is very much not rats, but rather fun, but still....

I need my very own purple helmet....She says heading for the web.....

And did Mim not react at all to this?

At 9:47 PM , Blogger gaypet said...

It looks like you are having a great time. Some much fun to see the pix!

The, "Look, I WILL sit on you!"; or, "What the heck" picture is great.:)

I hope you all are well. Happy (almost, or already here depending on where you are) Friday to all.

Nigh, night.

At 9:56 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Tuffet, exactly!

No, Mim is quite serious about her Lie In Front Of The Fire time...Nothing phases her....

'Night Gayle! Will we see you (or any Minneapolis Fiends) at the shows this weekend?

I gots to go to bed too......

At 9:57 PM , Blogger Dragonsally said...

I'll bet Mim is at this very moment plotting what she will do to Venus.

I want to scritch the horsey nose...

I've only ever ridden on an English saddle, so I'm intrigued that its so different. You looks so happy Lorraine, its wonderful.

At 10:01 PM , Blogger ariandalen said...

I think Venus is just reminding Mim of who is the queen in Spooky House. At least as far as the felines go. ;)

"Because I said so."

Hi, Na!

Ok, a last quick check before bed reveals Adriandalen had gone quite delightfully mad!

And Mim, not plotting, but flooring by fire....With no Venus on her head....

On such a night, dreams were born....

Bengals have no regard for personal space. My baby bengal is likely to sit on anyone or anything. He also runs into things while playing. When I got him, they told me, 'be careful where you aim your bengal'!

I ride English style even when I'm in a Western saddle, I can't help it. My childhood instructor beat posture and posting a trot into me!

Fiends, I think I am going to be prepared for my dinner party tomorrow. I have finished almost all of the pre-prep and it's only midnight. (I have also defeated two butternut squash peels, all hail the conquering hero!)

At 10:15 PM , Blogger Na said...

My skin may indeed turn blue this winter. Have moved from central Texas to my first winter in central Alberta. So've been appreciating notes regarding SAD and Sun's retreat.

Recently bought a butternut squash. Was hoping just to slice it in half and bake?

At 10:21 PM , Blogger ariandalen said...

See! There is method in my madness!

I don't know what it is, but I'm sure it's there. CX

So where in Central Texas were you, Na? I'm in Eddy, though I grew up in Waco.

At 10:28 PM , Blogger Dragonsally said...

That's what we do with out Butternuts Na. Yummy scrummy.

Adri -go you for pre-prep!

At 10:29 PM , Blogger Na said...

We were in Austin for 8 years. Lots of people with lively minds. Had never been in Tejas before moving there. Er - gotta look up Eddy...

At 10:30 PM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

Poor Mim!How naughty of Miss Seaweed!
Mind, Mim can be a handful, she is such a playful thing, maybe she just annoyed her elder?

I am still in foul mood because I thought I might be able to recover a temporary file with the words I lost yesterday but no. That's two full chapters and a half disappeared in some other dimension. Still swearing and they'd better be nice to me at work today OR ELSE...

At 10:35 PM , Blogger Chantrelle said...

Awesome pictures! Those kitties!!
My son does that to me but i react! I can't believe she just lays there! And you look so incredibly happy with that stunning horse!

Recommendation for the baked butternut squash...put some unpeeled garlic cloves in the cavity of the squash, rub them with oil and put them cut-side down to bake. Then you get yummy squash and roasted garlic which go so well together!

I feel like I can mention this here since none of you know my neighbor. I am TRULY TRULY happy for them and the new baby but it comes at such a tough time because we lost our baby girl (1/2 way through my pregnancy) a year ago next week. I'm actually somewhat dreading going to see the new baby tomorrow (he will be born sometime tonight or tomorrow) just because I'm afraid I'll cry and I don't want to darken their glorious day. I've been faking it really well around them I think. It doesn't help that hubby is on a business trip until tomorrow.

Thanks for listening.

I'm off to bed now. Diana Wynne Jones will distract me enough to get to sleep.

Love you Fiends!!!

At 10:36 PM , Blogger Na said...

Oh bother. Guess I didn't learn much about Texas geography while there! Is Eddy, like so many other towns around there, perhaps pronounced some funky way, maybe Eee-DIE?

Butternut baked with a lacing of butter, is the plan. Needing to get more veggies and such.

At 10:42 PM , Blogger Dragonsally said...

Chantrelle, consider yourself the recipient of the hugest cyber-hug possible

At 10:46 PM , Blogger Na said...

More hugs to you, Chantrelle, and supportive thoughts for tomorrow.

At 10:48 PM , Blogger ariandalen said...

No, it's pronounced just like you think. I'm half way between Waco and Temple on I-35. The town is actually Bruceville-Eddy, as is the school district, but Bruceville and Eddy have separate zip codes. ::shrug:: I guess it was before they incorporated. I actually live outside the city limits, but that's the town my address is routed through.

OK, I should be asleep but I am watching one of my favorite videos and just realized that (unless of course I have done this already) that some Fiends may appreciate this as well. I hope you get a chuckle from it. It is touching but mostly it just makes me laugh.

At 10:59 PM , Blogger Rubius said...

Aw, Chantrelle, that is hard. I'm sorry.

As for that one picture label... 'sweaty', sure, but it is a good type of sweaty... and I am positive that we here agree that you are AlWAYS 'Hot' in your photos, Lorraine, so you better stop worrying about that... and as for goofy... clearly the cats have you beat.

At 11:00 PM , Blogger gaypet said...

Oh Chantrelle I'm so sorry. Hugs to you.

It takes me so long to post some times that I miss the important stuff while I am futzing around.

At 11:05 PM , Blogger gaypet said...

Chantrelle, I don't think it will darken their day for you to have your moment. That is what community is about, right? Tears are not that uncommon when seeing a new baby anyway. Go, cry, it's OK. And, again, I am very sorry for your loss!

At 11:05 PM , Blogger Rubius said...

and Q, I really think I love this hair more than any I have seen on you before. It Frickin Rocks.

Gayle, we all do that... and then we post and there are 3 more.. and here you've gone and posted a chipper poem all 'lalala'while something terrible has happened.

Even when you check first by pressing 'preview' sometimes people pop in there with a comment.

It is the nature of the beast.

Goodnight folks.

At 11:15 PM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

Here's some virtual pat on your shoulder, Chantrelle: *!*!*!*!*!*!
I am sure they would understand if you cry, you know.

At 11:22 PM , Blogger Lexocat said...

Chantrelle, I'm sending my virtual hugs, too. Been in a similar situation and my heart breaks a little for you. I'm so sorry.

And also, what Gayle said re community. Love that.

At 11:31 PM , Blogger Adri said...

Ok, y'all (I live in Texas, San Antonio, too, but I'm from Louisiana)-- I've done all the prep for the starters, the risotto, and the main course. Tomorrow I just have to wrap the brie in puff pastry and portion out the sorbet.

When my guests arrive I should be able to project that magic, serene illusion that everything came together on its own. They shall never know that I stayed up half the night getting ready and that tomorrow I have to run out for more wine glasses.

Butternut squash is much less of a battle if you cook it before peeling it. I had to peel and cube first.

Chantrelle, no one should begrudge you your grief, and hopefully seeing this baby will help you heal, as well. **hugs**

At 11:44 PM , Blogger Lexocat said...

And in keeping with the themes of community and moving through the entire emotional spectrum (and because I don't read in order sometimes), I also need to say Ariandalen, you gave me the second big laugh of the night.

I want to set that to music. The Fiendish Welcome Ditty!

RE: the Bengals

They're really the missing members of Monty Python! They're acting out the song, "Sit on my face"..

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=FKeQpeDkoGc

They'll be doing skits next!

Alternatively it's a cat form of back massage and they charge reasonable rates for accupuncture therapy..

Yay for the delurking lurkers:) Muahahahaha, more fiends!

I love the way Venus is just so nonchalant about sitting on Mim's head..like "eh, might as well have a warm seat." LOL

Post riding jelly legs..oof. I wanna know why when you get off at the end of a ride it always seems like the ground should be there about a foot or so before your feet get there? Or maybe it just happens to me.

Gayle that video was twisted and very very funny.:)

And Chantrelle, it's ok to be happy AND sad at the same time. I'm pretty sure they'd understand. (((hugs)))

At 12:48 AM , Blogger Marjorie said...

Welcome to newly de-lurked fiends!

Q - love the pics - I realy am going to have to get in the habit of looking at the blog BEFORE I take that first sip of tea, though. I have tea in the keyboard now! (also, I think that last one, of you, is great)

Chantrelle - like Gayle & Kali said, I'm sure it wil be OK if you cry - not unual with a new baby in any case, and if they know about your loss I'm sure they will understand. *Warm hugs*

I'm sure Venus was saying to Mim the same thing Molly says to me when she sits on me:

She just wanted to get in on the riding act too!

At 4:02 AM , Blogger Phiala said...

Mornin' all, or whatever greeting is appropriate for your geographic or personal timezone.

Chantrelle, that must be so hard. I agree with everyone else - major life events can be both happy and sad, depending on your own experiences. Nobody can fault you for that. (And if they do, I'd be happy to smack them upside the head as needed.)

Q, you look so happy! :)

"Giddi-yup, Mim!"

I think Venus wants tiny silver spurs for Christmas.

At 6:55 AM , Blogger Arwenn said...

Chantrelle - that is tough and I hope it goes okay. I'd bet that parents of a newborn are usually pretty overwhelmed plus they are presenting the infant to all kinds of new people so I'm guessing they won't notice the nuances of one person's reaction. Not to mention the fact that once it's over you'll know you can do it. *hug*

At 6:56 AM , Blogger Arwenn said...

That first picture is awesome!! I read it as Venus saying "Nyah, nyah, I'm going to be a tattoo" we know that they read the blog after all :)

Eska Vou Vou Fiends!

See how early I am up today??And awake no less? How did this happen???

Chantrelle, first, very hard, and sad, and happy it will be for you, but I send you my heart felt stmpathies and wishes. I don't know that one and can't imagine.

Venus might well want pony, with me doing all this riding.....Point. And she is getting a bit big headed what with being a tattoo and all.

Bengals haven't s;ept with me for tow nights, only Kali, I wake up eight times with a Kali-hat. She SO belongs in LA!

Tea, then sift...

LOL... I love it...
It's one way of making a point about who's in charge at a particular instance in time. It's a safe way of working out a conflict. No one gets hurt (usually).

Instead of fighting or swatting or growling, my 25 pound Savannah simply sits down on whomever he's got his panties in a knot about.

Ah sifting thu..

Na, you lived in Austin? Fods the MUSIC in that town! Is it the air or what?? I so evny people who got to see the Scabs in a local bar every week...

Rubious , no worries, I know I am hot, not something I worry about. I have this weird self image and self esteem that kind of goes thu the roof, like Zaphod in Hitchhikers, I'm the one who goes in the box and says, well, yes, very nice,hee-hee...

But then,I kind of think everyone is hot, who is happy in their soul, and if they are not, doesn't matter what they look like.

AH, Martyn, rolfing for cats!!!!

Kali, what IS it about the ground being so far away??? And hey! I am not sore this morning!!!!

At 7:38 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Hi Marilyn! Was hoping you'd check in and give us your wisdom of cats!!!!

That sounds like Venus, and there Mim lies thinking, fine , be the leader, do I have to move? Ok, cool....

At 7:43 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

You know, she says chattily, to herself, I feel like I am in this weird dead zone dead air time in my blog, I can hang out mid morning and late early midnight, like the two times no one else is around....

All night, I lie in my bed, here in the Spooky House watching the comments pinging up, and I wake, get tea come to the lap top, as the Fiends vanish into the mist....

Deep thoughts eh? I am off for work, and then gig, which out to be fun....

At 8:10 AM , Blogger Na said...

Woke to a fresh dusting of snow.

Yes, there must be something in the water in Austin. Not _just_ music - Really Good Music abounds. Great bands make stops. Arts and all manner of creativity thrive. Funky little shops of all kinds. Most excellent movie theatres and theatre theatres, books, pagan gatherings, watering holes and swimming holes, BBQ joints.

Don't know the Scabs though. :(

I am happy to be away from the semi-sentient cockroaches on the other hand.

At 8:14 AM , Blogger Amy said...

I'm so glad I wasn't the only one that thought "sit on my face". In fact, its now running through my head.

I'm probably not going to come hear you and Paul play tonight, but expect me and my mommy tomorrow! Yay! Mom doesn't think she can handle more than one fun going out thing in a night. We're already heading to Acapulco's after work with some fun people I work with. We won't be there all night tomorrow either-that's too long for her. So, we'll show up some time, stay a bit, listen to you guys rock. =)

At 8:24 AM , Blogger Ticia said...

Well, I SHOULD be working, but I wanted to tell Chantrelle that I am so sorry. ((warm hugs))

It is so hard for me to focus on personal emailing at work! Too many distractions! Which is why I don't usually do it!

I LOVE the pics! Made me snort out loud thing this morning!(my commute husband looked at me funny-luckily he's driving this week.)

You're missing the obvious Bengal Bee Alliance conspiracy connection with the "bare-back Bengal horse-riding" picture...It's proof that they have crakced the computer code and been reading your blog! Watch out for strange purchases on your credit cards!

World domination can't be far behind!

This took far too long to type - Tell me why I have to work again?????

At 8:47 AM , Blogger Dread Val said...

The Bengals photo made me think of the Python song, 'Sit on my Face.' Can't help it.

You and Rommy look great!

Chantrelle, consider yourself hugged.

I know, it's wierd noticing the times the Fiends come out… this Fiend is up early and up late, just incoherent until about now-ish. And then there's all that drinking to do at home, and the Not-Painting and the Not-Writing.

Oooh! I talked to Malena yesterday and I now have Sekrit Thanksgiving Plans. ;) MWAHAHA. :)

Thank you to everyone for your hugs and love. I got a message this morning that they had their baby boy at 3:45 AM. We'll go over after hubby gets back from his business trip. I had a good cry last night which always helps. My neighbors are the sweetest people and are really good friends and they helped me through the nightmare last year so they would completely understand if I was upset, I just don't want them to have to understand. This day is about them and their new little one. I can mourn at home. We're supposed to take them sushi and champagne tonight :)

Gayle - That video was too much. I love that everyone is looking all morose and sympathetic while there's blood and gook dripping on their food!

I loved the kitty rolfing comment as I am off to rolfing in 10 minutes! My rolfer, however, does not sit on my head.

after that I have to head to the tea shop, I have many empty tea tins to refill.

Novel? What novel? I don't know what you're talking about. *blinks innocently*

The noveling thing runs for the entire month of November, so I have days yet to catch up. (Heh.) Spacedlaw has finished, and Sally is very nearly there. I'm nowhere near 50,000 words, but am pleased anyway, since I've written some fiction every day this month (except one, and I knew in advance that would be impossible). I'm more interested in developing the habit of writing than in churning out a zillion thoughtless words.

Tho that sounds like an excuse, it really isn't.

so what happens at 50K? do you get automatically published? is there somewhere we can all go and read all the stories??? that'd be cool!

Nope. The sole reward is the satisfaction of having written 50k words of fiction in a month, and not even one of those long, easy months with 31 days.

You wouldn't want to read mine, at least, until it goes through a great deal of editing. At 2000 words a day there isn't much time for polishing.

My grammar is out the window with my 'novel'. Pete is going to edit it for me, so many grammatical rules I have just plain forgotten.
Stacy, send me an email if you want to read the blog where I've been posting my installments as they're done. Its an invite only blog to save embarrassment.
I'm hoping to knock off the nano word count this afternoon, then the real work starts making the story one I'd like to read.
