Here's the Deal............

Seems to be a lot of chatter this morning about a Certain Song. One that SOME Fiends really seems to think needs to be done tonight, live all over the world.

I am talking about the Unicorn Song.

The single most embarrassing song going. Paul and I have a rule, it is NOT in the set unless someone requests it, and he has had enough whiskey.

It's a production of a song that can often go on for 15-20 minutes.

For those of you who don't know it, Google is your friend. I can't write about it.

As for how I feel about doing this live all over the world: Shudder.

Here's the deal. You want to send tips? Send the pub cards and e-mails telling Chuck and Judy how much you can't wait for June. Send your tips to:

donate@greatlakesbengalrescue.com

When Janet tells me the tip jar is at $500 I will do that song live all over the world.

Help my Bengals and I will do that song for you.

Love and Shudders,
Lorraine

I think you set the number too low, Quiche. I think we can meet that easily!

I only have the audacity to post "First!" because I have the power to delete my comment if it turns out that I'm wrong. LOL

At 7:33 AM , Blogger Marjorie said...

I have googled. I now know which song you're talking about. . .

Do we need to mention unicorns or fiends so Janet knows which donations to count??

At 7:37 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Ok, Smartypants Dan Guy, if it goes over by what I feel is enough, I will see you your Unicorn song and raise you a down and dirty nasty version of Wild Rover, complete with Sheep Jokes.

Live.

When you donate add the comment "We want the Unicorn Song" and she will know.

Tips, no problem.

I'm still looking for a Fiend with a PayPal account who's willing to take some cash to the gig for all us remote fiends who don't want to be bothered mailing things.

And I TOLD you I'd leave Dublin alone.

I'm wearing my "Mistress of Skulls" shirt to work today, in honor of Friday the 13th, the gig, and to disturb my (boring) coworkers. *grin*

Wow. All we had to do was ask. And badger. And dare.

That was easy.

How about Free Bird?

At 7:52 AM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

I have hear the song (you had a request on Valentine's day last year) and can only commiserate: This is not a song which is suitable for an adult audience no matter how inebriated.

At 7:59 AM , Blogger Marjorie said...

But Nat, do you think that fiends en masse really count as an adult audience?

(I have no doubt that fiends en masse can be inebriated)

At 8:00 AM , Blogger Jess said...

Thirteenth! That's lucky.

I'd just like to say at this point that Google is no longer my friend. Not after what I've just subjected myself to. Frackin' heck in a bean-bucket. :P

At 8:06 AM , Blogger bengalgirl said...

Wow, is all I can say. What a wonderful challenge. Of course I am not familiar with the Unicorn Song so I'm off to google. But I will keep us all updated. Thank you Lorraine and FIENDS.

Now I'm intrigued...! So the party will be starting at 1.30 in the morning UK time? I hope I'll manage to stay up for a little while at least to catch the beginning, I want to see/hear you play! If I could stay in bed all day tomorrow I would stay up for the whole thing (I managed the superbowl!) but I have friends rockin up sometime tomorrow morning. Do let us know if there will be a recording that we can watch later on at civilised times!!

At 8:12 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Mistress, Boss is off for Dublin. It had to be made safe.

No cash tips. Only to Bengal Rescue. The Pub doesn't need them, they get you all in June. Send them e-mails telling them how much you liked the show.

Send tips to the Bengals so we can keep this rescue group going.

I agree, you lot don't count as adults. Just make sure you aren't sober when you listen to it (not you Emily and DRWHO42!) Australia, it will be morning there, best add whiskey to the tea.

At 8:14 AM , Blogger Phiala said...

So we've changed our minds about sending the Pub money? I thought they were concerned that webcasting would reduce their business, so we were all going to buy virtual beer with real money?

So, if I understand it:
- No money to Charlie's, just thank you notes.
- Money for Bengals instead.

I'm so confused... polishing New York AND keeping Dublin safe seems to be using up most of my brainpower.

At 8:15 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I will ask Dr Wicked if it is possible to archive for a day or two.

And I will make the first hour ROCK for the UK!!!!!!!!

At 8:16 AM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

Registered.
Plaul and Lorraine show page duly bookmarked.
All set for tomorrow morning.

At 8:18 AM , Blogger dabbler said...

Wow..Sally, I have to say all my exposure to the Unicorn song has been in bars....

At 8:25 AM , Blogger Marjorie said...

Bengal girl. Don't do it. Save yourself while there is still time. I have only heard the song once, but as soon as I googled and glanced at the lyrics it got stuck in my head...

At 8:30 AM , Blogger Na said...

Jess, did you make it through ALL of that one? *huddles in a corner after one minute of it*

At 8:37 AM , Blogger TommyB said...

Just checked out Jess' link

Dear God- what have we done? Will they ever forgive us?

At 8:42 AM , Blogger Marjorie said...

Na, Tommy - that's the only version I've ever seen/heard.

I can't imagine how. It's not as iff I watch songs of praise, but it's definitly that one ::shudder::

Maybe seing Paul & Lorraine doing it would erase that memory?

At 8:44 AM , Blogger Erin Underwood said...

I vote for singing the Zombie Unicorn Song! :-)

At 8:45 AM , Blogger TommyB said...

And don't forget today's other big event: at exactly 21:30:31 Zulu (aka 5:30:31 PM Central) the POSIX time system (used in most UNIX-based computers) will be exactly 1234567890.

whoo hoo.

At 9:08 AM , Blogger ariandalen said...

Should I really say that I have "The Unicorn Song" by the Irish Rovers on their LP by the same name?

At 9:08 AM , Blogger Na said...

Tommy, I almost understood that. Should we be cheering, "Happy 1234567890" today?
Tried to googlecate POSIX. Amused by this Wikipedia note re: POSIX,
Not to be confused with Unix, Unix-like, or Linux.

And Marjorie - I'm so sorry. That is too much. Here's another less hurtful version from the Brobdignagian Bards.

At 9:11 AM , Blogger Na said...

Well, the Bards did that version of the song, don't know who's responsible for the video.

At 9:26 AM , Blogger ariandalen said...

Hmmm...seems Peter, Paul and Mary have their own Unicorn Song. Somehow, I don't think this is the version which so appalls Paul and Lorraine. ;)

Maybe they should learn the Charlie the Unicorn song?
CX

At 9:31 AM , Blogger Na said...

ariandalen, if you're referring to the Candy Mountain Charlie the Unicorn, I might donate money for someone not to play it! Well, if I had more money to donate.

At 9:39 AM , Blogger ariandalen said...

AFAIK, that's the one. ;)
It's listed along with other versions on YouTube, though I haven't played it as DD2 is sitting next to me.

At 9:51 AM , Blogger Na said...

Good thought. ;)

At 10:00 AM , Blogger bengalgirl said...

Marjorie, actually I'm looking for something to get the earworm of Blame it on the Boogie out of my head. My grandson is in his highschool showchoir and that is one of the songs. Once I hear it is there until the next time I hear it - I even try to tap to it, lol. Janet

At 10:12 AM , Blogger vampi said...

ugh! i'm sorry dr wicked. it's vegas, it's bleeding my brain cells...

At 10:26 AM , Blogger ariandalen said...

Granted, I'm nice. It's not going to bother me if they don't play that song, because songs can get stale if you perform them too often. It's no fun playing a song that has become tedious.

Not to say that a donation shouldn't be made to Great Lakes Bengal Rescue. :)

At 10:42 AM , Blogger Ticia said...

ticky box.

For those of us who don't drink enough, where can we donate NOT to hear that song? ;-)

Dueling donations!

At 10:45 AM , Blogger Na said...

At 10:59 AM , Blogger Ticia said...

That's 2.... Lorraine, I don't think it's unethical for you to donate to the "Anti-Unicorn Song Fund". ;-)

At 11:05 AM , Blogger Amy said...

NOOOOOOOO!!!!

Not the Unicorn Song!

Though I must admit it did make me laugh one time. When my mommy came to Charlie's with me...and you were singing it, the look of horror on her face (as the song just kept going and going) was hilarious.

At 11:12 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I admit, I do tend to go on a bit with that song. It will be even better tonight, if the goal is met, as I am going to print out the words to it so I have them as kind of a guideline....

I really need a nap.

At 11:52 AM , Blogger Jess said...

Ticia also read my mind. How much not to play it? I'll double it. No, triple.

Aaaaaagghh.

Yeah, do this one. :D (The German subtitles are an unsettling touch, aren't they?)

At 11:52 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Lorraine!!! Wake UP!!!

Sent you email re other project for tonight--set to activate super powers upon your response!!

oh...and about that Unicorn song. I vote for a counter -fund, paypal to Bengal Rescue....if THAT tip jar exceeds the first one, you DON'T play the song. Okay, just kidding..... really.....don't through things at me, y'all....

Hullo all,

Unicorn song... ha... I remember that from a year ago!!! ... and kindergarten. ... and after 2 bars of Jess's link it is firmly stuck in my head again (yikes). Thanks Jess.... Thanks a Lot. :-)

Can you bring along song lyrics for some of your older songs? the ones we far-flung fiends only know from older CDs? like Folk Underground? and LaM? and Play Each Morning Wild Queen? and Pansy and Violet? etc?

I will be missing the first hour or so of the concert so I will be rushing home tonight to make sure I don't miss more. ... since you will be rocking the first hour SO HARD... I am extra glad that Dr Wicked will post the show for a few days. That's be cool.

hope your nap is nice

At 1:43 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I said I NEEDED a nap, not that I was going to get one.

I am going to be late to my own party if I don't get it together shortly.

At 1:45 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Oh, I said I would SEE if he could post it for a few days, not sure it is possible........

Not sure we an pull off the Flash Girls songs, Paul would need time to remember chords and such. In June, promise.

At 2:06 PM , Blogger Rubius said...

oops... clearly I missed some nuance in there.

Well... here's to hoping you can post the thing for a while... and here's to hoping I can convince boss to let me off an hour early.

Had forgotten the Giving Tree. One of those books I could NOT read my kids without bawling. And, as opposed to many of the man's other messages, one with which I totally disagree. that tree was the epitome of codependence...(of putting another's needs ahead of one's own to an unhealthy degree) and a terrible example to anyone of how to be loving to another.

IMNSHO of course. And please don't shut up. I'd miss you!
