Here's the Deal............
Seems to be a lot of chatter this morning about a Certain Song. One that SOME Fiends really seems to think needs to be done tonight, live all over the world.
I am talking about the Unicorn Song.
The single most embarrassing song going. Paul and I have a rule, it is NOT in the set unless someone requests it, and he has had enough whiskey.
It's a production of a song that can often go on for 15-20 minutes.
For those of you who don't know it, Google is your friend. I can't write about it.
As for how I feel about doing this live all over the world: Shudder.
Here's the deal. You want to send tips? Send the pub cards and e-mails telling Chuck and Judy how much you can't wait for June. Send your tips to:
donate@greatlakesbengalrescue.com
When Janet tells me the tip jar is at $500 I will do that song live all over the world.
Help my Bengals and I will do that song for you.
Love and Shudders,
Lorraine

First!
2nd, (damn you, Dan)
I think you set the number too low, Quiche. I think we can meet that easily!
I only have the audacity to post "First!" because I have the power to delete my comment if it turns out that I'm wrong. LOL
I have googled. I now know which song you're talking about. . .
Do we need to mention unicorns or fiends so Janet knows which donations to count??
Ok, Smartypants Dan Guy, if it goes over by what I feel is enough, I will see you your Unicorn song and raise you a down and dirty nasty version of Wild Rover, complete with Sheep Jokes.
Live.
When you donate add the comment "We want the Unicorn Song" and she will know.
Tips, no problem.
I'm still looking for a Fiend with a PayPal account who's willing to take some cash to the gig for all us remote fiends who don't want to be bothered mailing things.
And I TOLD you I'd leave Dublin alone.
I'm wearing my "Mistress of Skulls" shirt to work today, in honor of Friday the 13th, the gig, and to disturb my (boring) coworkers. *grin*
*starts counting change in the couch*
there is a reason that the 45 record of THE UNICORN in your handbag MELTED.
happy pretend birthday-day.
Am there holding your hand in spirit...xox
Wow. All we had to do was ask. And badger. And dare.
That was easy.
How about Free Bird?
I have hear the song (you had a request on Valentine's day last year) and can only commiserate: This is not a song which is suitable for an adult audience no matter how inebriated.
But Nat, do you think that fiends en masse really count as an adult audience?
(I have no doubt that fiends en masse can be inebriated)
Thirteenth! That's lucky.
I'd just like to say at this point that Google is no longer my friend. Not after what I've just subjected myself to. Frackin' heck in a bean-bucket. :P
Wow, is all I can say. What a wonderful challenge. Of course I am not familiar with the Unicorn Song so I'm off to google. But I will keep us all updated. Thank you Lorraine and FIENDS.
Janet
Now I'm intrigued...! So the party will be starting at 1.30 in the morning UK time? I hope I'll manage to stay up for a little while at least to catch the beginning, I want to see/hear you play! If I could stay in bed all day tomorrow I would stay up for the whole thing (I managed the superbowl!) but I have friends rockin up sometime tomorrow morning. Do let us know if there will be a recording that we can watch later on at civilised times!!
Mistress, Boss is off for Dublin. It had to be made safe.
No cash tips. Only to Bengal Rescue. The Pub doesn't need them, they get you all in June. Send them e-mails telling them how much you liked the show.
Send tips to the Bengals so we can keep this rescue group going.
I agree, you lot don't count as adults. Just make sure you aren't sober when you listen to it (not you Emily and DRWHO42!) Australia, it will be morning there, best add whiskey to the tea.
So we've changed our minds about sending the Pub money? I thought they were concerned that webcasting would reduce their business, so we were all going to buy virtual beer with real money?
So, if I understand it:
- No money to Charlie's, just thank you notes.
- Money for Bengals instead.
I'm so confused... polishing New York AND keeping Dublin safe seems to be using up most of my brainpower.
I will ask Dr Wicked if it is possible to archive for a day or two.
And I will make the first hour ROCK for the UK!!!!!!!!
Registered.
Plaul and Lorraine show page duly bookmarked.
All set for tomorrow morning.
Wow..Sally, I have to say all my exposure to the Unicorn song has been in bars....
Bengal girl. Don't do it. Save yourself while there is still time. I have only heard the song once, but as soon as I googled and glanced at the lyrics it got stuck in my head...
Jess, did you make it through ALL of that one? *huddles in a corner after one minute of it*
Just checked out Jess' link
Dear God- what have we done? Will they ever forgive us?
Na, Tommy - that's the only version I've ever seen/heard.
I can't imagine how. It's not as iff I watch songs of praise, but it's definitly that one ::shudder::
Maybe seing Paul & Lorraine doing it would erase that memory?
I vote for singing the Zombie Unicorn Song! :-)
And don't forget today's other big event: at exactly 21:30:31 Zulu (aka 5:30:31 PM Central) the POSIX time system (used in most UNIX-based computers) will be exactly 1234567890.
whoo hoo.
Should I really say that I have "The Unicorn Song" by the Irish Rovers on their LP by the same name?
Tommy, I almost understood that. Should we be cheering, "Happy 1234567890" today?
Tried to googlecate POSIX. Amused by this Wikipedia note re: POSIX,
Not to be confused with Unix, Unix-like, or Linux.
And Marjorie - I'm so sorry. That is too much. Here's another less hurtful version from the Brobdignagian Bards.
Well, the Bards did that version of the song, don't know who's responsible for the video.
Hmmm...seems Peter, Paul and Mary have their own Unicorn Song. Somehow, I don't think this is the version which so appalls Paul and Lorraine. ;)
Maybe they should learn the Charlie the Unicorn song?
CX
ariandalen, if you're referring to the Candy Mountain Charlie the Unicorn, I might donate money for someone not to play it! Well, if I had more money to donate.
AFAIK, that's the one. ;)
It's listed along with other versions on YouTube, though I haven't played it as DD2 is sitting next to me.
Good thought. ;)
Marjorie, actually I'm looking for something to get the earworm of Blame it on the Boogie out of my head. My grandson is in his highschool showchoir and that is one of the songs. Once I hear it is there until the next time I hear it - I even try to tap to it, lol. Janet
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees ....
donated. Dr. wocked, if THE song does get played, will you make it so it it is posted somewhere for those of us who might be passed out?
ugh! i'm sorry dr wicked. it's vegas, it's bleeding my brain cells...
Granted, I'm nice. It's not going to bother me if they don't play that song, because songs can get stale if you perform them too often. It's no fun playing a song that has become tedious.
Not to say that a donation shouldn't be made to Great Lakes Bengal Rescue. :)
ticky box.
::ears bleeding::
For those of us who don't drink enough, where can we donate NOT to hear that song? ;-)
Dueling donations!
Ticia you are reading my mind again. ;)
That's 2.... Lorraine, I don't think it's unethical for you to donate to the "Anti-Unicorn Song Fund". ;-)
NOOOOOOOO!!!!
Not the Unicorn Song!
Though I must admit it did make me laugh one time. When my mommy came to Charlie's with me...and you were singing it, the look of horror on her face (as the song just kept going and going) was hilarious.
I admit, I do tend to go on a bit with that song. It will be even better tonight, if the goal is met, as I am going to print out the words to it so I have them as kind of a guideline....
I really need a nap.
Ticia also read my mind. How much not to play it? I'll double it. No, triple.
Aaaaaagghh.
Yeah, do this one. :D (The German subtitles are an unsettling touch, aren't they?)
Lorraine!!! Wake UP!!!
Sent you email re other project for tonight--set to activate super powers upon your response!!
oh...and about that Unicorn song. I vote for a counter -fund, paypal to Bengal Rescue....if THAT tip jar exceeds the first one, you DON'T play the song. Okay, just kidding..... really.....don't through things at me, y'all....
The Unicorn Song sounds familiar to me. Will definitely have to Google it - after babysitting.
huh....my brain was definitely distracted....didn't see Ticia and Jess were already there.
hehehehe. Safety in numbers!
Evening all. I'm signed up and ready to party.
[drums fingers]
No? Not yet?
Sigh.
Right.
Well then I'll just go check if the rest of Dublin's still there...
Hullo all,
Unicorn song... ha... I remember that from a year ago!!! ... and kindergarten. ... and after 2 bars of Jess's link it is firmly stuck in my head again (yikes). Thanks Jess.... Thanks a Lot. :-)
Can you bring along song lyrics for some of your older songs? the ones we far-flung fiends only know from older CDs? like Folk Underground? and LaM? and Play Each Morning Wild Queen? and Pansy and Violet? etc?
I will be missing the first hour or so of the concert so I will be rushing home tonight to make sure I don't miss more. ... since you will be rocking the first hour SO HARD... I am extra glad that Dr Wicked will post the show for a few days. That's be cool.
hope your nap is nice
I said I NEEDED a nap, not that I was going to get one.
I am going to be late to my own party if I don't get it together shortly.
Oh, I said I would SEE if he could post it for a few days, not sure it is possible........
Not sure we an pull off the Flash Girls songs, Paul would need time to remember chords and such. In June, promise.
oops... clearly I missed some nuance in there.
Well... here's to hoping you can post the thing for a while... and here's to hoping I can convince boss to let me off an hour early.
Surfacing from sleep-fog and sleep, only to remember that today is The Day. Now I won't have to hear just the end. There is a silver lining to being sick today.:)
Oof. I'm with the people who will gladly donate NOT to hear the Unicorn Song. Some Pogues would be nice though. Gotta go sign up, once I stop sneezing. Bleah.
don't forget to leave yourself time to pick up cake!!
Not sure why I have not commented here yet! Wee! We will party tonight!
btw... because it seems like a Fiendish thing to say... Happy Friday the 13th!!!!
Just a quick update;
We have 2 donations for a total of $45.00.
The bengals and I thank you.
Janet
argh, what is WRONG with ye all?
I grew up on the Irish Rovers singing that song. I loved it as a kid.
Frightening....I don't even have to think of the words, they just come out of my mouth 40 odd years later.
I have tea.
I am ready to rock.
Mine is in now.
We may regret this, but the cats won't.
Sally! I keep missing you this week! You have tea, I have wine :) Don't want to clog up comments with book talk, do you want to email me? louisa at ravenbooks dot ie
Sally I am with you! Great memories tied up in that song.
Tom did you get my email??
::sigh:: I need to feed the daughters real food before DD1 joins the other girls at school for their performance during halftime at the boys JV basketball game.
I should be home in time to party!
I have no childhood memories of said tune but I do recall it made a newly postpartum friend weep uncontrollably when she tried to sing it to her baby.
Hormones. Not for the weak.
Ahh, Lexa has coined the perfect Tshirt slogan "Hormones. Not for the weak"
Has anyone found the correct URL for the show? Ive searched and clicked at the ustream site to no avail.
Update from Janet, we are at $80....
Not so close Fiends.....
Fods I am late, but the last bit of writing, the bengal bit is DONE. Right dress now dammit and GO.........
http://www.ustream.tv/channel/paul-and-lorraine
Oops. That was me, with the URL for sally ;-)
Thanks.
I've got it bookmarked now and ready to go.
In other news...Melbourne is overed again in hazy smelly smoke this morning. It appears we are going to have a few days like this - just to make sure none of us forget there are fires around. Its bad enough breathing here, I'd hate to be close to a fire.
w00t! Ready to Ustream.
Meanwhile, the monsters and I are cat-sitting this weekend, and before the show starts this evening, we'll be going over to said cats' home, to meet the them again and learn how we may serve them whilst their regular servants take a weekend off.
I am off for the gig.
Wish me luck and I will see you in two hours!
Good luck!!! See you soon
Good luck Q - see you later (I f I stay awake)
Good luck! The crowds are already assembling :)
A polite way of saying the mob is getting restless!
Happy Weekend, everyone! I am all done with my day!
And have a Fabulous birthday party, Lorraine! Have a truly splendid celebration!
I Googled the Song - is it the same one by Shel Silverstein?
stomp stomp stomp
clap clap clap
Paul and Lorrraaaiinnneeee
Paul and Looorrrrraaaaiiiinnnneeeee

Donation sent. Ariandalen, I too have the Unicorn song on the Irish Rover's album. DH hasn't yet transferred that one to CD.
And, I will admit to eve a sappy tear or two in the past, at the thought of those silly, heedless unicorns...
EmilyLady...
Cool, I didn't know Shel Silverstein wrote it! But googlecated, and he did. Fine silly man.
I should note that silly, in our house, is a definite compliment.
Fine silly man indeed. Ever read "The Giving Tree"?
Not quite as silly, I might add, as beautiful and heart-rending.
Not that silly can't be beautiful.
Shutting up.
No Miss Emily, don't shut up, join the party, the Fiends are gathering!!
Tickybox
Update to Unicorn
$115.00
I think I'm caught up. I set up a UStream account so I'm all set.
Not sure how much all get to watch, but I should able to at least listen!
EmilyLady...
Had forgotten the Giving Tree. One of those books I could NOT read my kids without bawling. And, as opposed to many of the man's other messages, one with which I totally disagree. that tree was the epitome of codependence...(of putting another's needs ahead of one's own to an unhealthy degree) and a terrible example to anyone of how to be loving to another.
IMNSHO of course. And please don't shut up. I'd miss you!
Ack! The Very Important Website for the gig refuses to load. *pout*
I'm coming - I'm coming. Got booted off the stream, but I'm wending my way back. Had to open a different browser. Soon.
Typical of this day - took 1.5 hours to drive 11 miles. Snow. Cars. Idiots. But, I finally got home, have on my rockin' out clothes, and have my cake, ready to go.
Oh - drink of choice - have to get that soon.
Okay, I'm on at the show site..see y'all there! And remember, we have ANNOUNCEMENTS tonight! :)
Phi - try another browser. MSN doesn't work for me, but Windows IE does.
What is this Windows IE of which you speak? I do not have such a thing!
But it loaded, finally.
WIndows internet explorer.
Are you a mac girl?
Never mind!
Siri, I know what IE is, really. Just being a pain in the arse.
I'm a linux girl, and truly do not have IE though.
Hang on. Are we talking here or there? Aieee!
Er, yes?
Huh?
Am I going to have to herd both of you all night?????
And you let out twitter, too.
Like herding cats it is.
But no, I'm not going to be able to keep up both all night.

Here at the birthday bash!
hi aleta!
fiends are chatting on the online gig thingy, waiting impatiently for music.
I can't believe I woke up at 05:00 JUST in time for the Unicorn song!
But the new site is great.
For those of you with ticky boxes, I did a new post here on blogger, to talk about tweaks in the new site.
Here is another link to donate to the Great Lakes Bengal Rescue
