Happy new year west coast! I'm home now, having been to two celebrations with friends, had champagne and other sparking beverages, and miraculously avoided a wardrobe malfunction.

I love it! You know, this would not have been possible even a few years ago! A party going on, well, for 22 hours now!

Vampi is different than this girl I am thinking of. She has a lot of names , but I like her. I think she works for ticketmaster, that's not WHY I like her, I just remembered that...

At 12:27 AM , Blogger Adri said...

Yay! They do match! I can never tell if it's photo/monitor skew or not!

I tried to match my eyeshadow to my hair, but it ended up going on too dark, so I just went smokey and said to hell with it. ^^

re: technology-- I've exchanged new year's greetings with people all over the world. Sure, maybe we don't have flying cars, but I'll take this future of close connections regardless of geography, even if we don't have teleport!

That last glass of champagne, that's the kicker!

Best to all, and to all a good night.

I fear I must slip away and to slip, perchance to dream.

Oh, btw, I emailed you (from my civilian address.) Let me know if it DIDN'T show up, okay?

I was bored today so watched videos on blending eye makeup. YES, my life is that exciting.

I feel like I missed out on some essential Girl Life Lessons in jr high or something and have never been able to wear makeup without feeling like I got into my mom's makeup and played around. I'm JUST starting to be able to deal with it, mostly due to having to look 'presentable' for corporate whatnots. (purple hair nonwithstanding)

But let me tell you about my video game and comics...

Happy New Year

This is my very first post from my new iPod!! And my first post from my new house!!!... And my first post this year!!!

We are just in our place... With our 3 cats... A turtle ... And 2 dwarf hamsters... And 3 broken people. We only had one hospital visit this move so I think we are doing okay (sick friend needed rehydration).

Take care ... And wishes for a great year to all.

From kristina (rubius) who is aware that she is posting from the wrong damn account

At 12:43 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

HA! Well, that is one mystery solved, Vampi! I thought it odd she (you) had been so cool and never hung out with us...Joke is on me!

Adri, I missed those lessons too. Had to get advice tonight from Maddy and her friends on if my pants should be IN the boots or over them.....

Even asked them if I looked "too fat" and they said in unison SHUT UP!!!!!! Love those kids. Rather healthy self images they have, and great hearts.

At 12:43 AM , Blogger vampi said...

you new ipod? the touch? i love mine. it's way awesome. i had mine playing the other day in my pocket using the speaker. i was filing, but the i walked around to make sure the minions were doing ok, and everyone freaked out looking for the music.

At 12:44 AM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

It shows that they are healthy kids too!
What was their verdict on the pants?

At 12:44 AM , Blogger Dragonsally said...

Hi Kristina. Happy new year

At 12:44 AM , Blogger Na said...

Nathalie, are you getting telepathic messages from missed fiends!?

Adri - I missed those lessons, too. Mostly I've only ever worn makeup for performances, which is then super exaggerated. Now, just putting on mascara and lip something, and I feel compelled to check with the nearest friend that I don't look like a hooker.

At 12:45 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Nathilie, we will get those Fiends too, they are out there you know....

Gayle, you made my night! SO glad you were there!

Happy New Year Kristine and glad you are moved!!!!!!!!Best of luck in the new house! And only one hospital, I love how you say that so matter of factly!

At 12:45 AM , Blogger Dragonsally said...

Good question. are pants meant to be in boots or over them this year?

At 12:48 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Ah, they said IN the pants, so i had knee high black boots, with black pants, the lacy thing hanging down like a dress, and the feather top over it all.

Pretty hot if I do say so myself!

At 12:49 AM , Blogger Adri said...

More kids need to have healthy self images! Good on Maddy and her friends. I spent most of my teen years thinking that when my mom said, 'you don't have the body shape for that' she meant 'you're fat' when what she really meant was 'you're busty.' It took gettign fat (and fabulous) to realize that I wasn't when I was younger.

I wore very on-trend shoes tonight; stiletto heeled 'booties' with a peep toe. They were 4" and that's "short" for current season's shoes. This/last season's shoes are INSANE heights.

At 12:49 AM , Blogger Adri said...

Oh yes, this year's trend is showing of shoes, not pants-- so skinny pants tucked into boots, booties, and scrunched up over heels.

At 12:51 AM , Blogger Ticia said...

Yay Kristina! So glad you checked in.

At 12:51 AM , Blogger vampi said...

i can't wear heels like i used too ever since i broke my ankle:(

so these boots, please tell me they aren't uggs. the people in lala land wear ugs when it get's below 60degrees because "it's cold"

At 12:52 AM , Blogger Na said...

How does one learn these yearly fashion things? (Other than from fiends, that is.)

At 12:56 AM , Blogger Ticia said...

Vampi- Did you know Uggs were created by Australian surfers?? For when they go out of the water and were cold... I KNOW!

At 12:57 AM , Blogger Adri said...

na, I watch shoe blogs-- when I see more of one thing than another, I can tell what's 'in.' This year, many shoe designers upped their top height from five inches to anywhere from six to EIGHT inches (with platforms). Lots of models fell over on the runways.

I don't watch television or read magazines, which is how I think most people can tell what's trendy seasonally. (well, I read Bitch, mental_floss, Time, Wired, Inc, and Gourmet, but none of those really mention current clothing fashions!)

At 12:58 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Well, they weren't Uggs, they were black leather with heels, but in our part of the world Uggs are not looked doen on.

Nor are they worn tho with tank tops and mini skirts.

It is weird some of the things our mothers told us..I can't imagine telling a child that now. My Mother was pretty strange too. A five foot five 125 pound figure skater, all of it muscle is not fat. I see pictures and wonder what they were thinking..

At 1:00 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I kind of have one Look and it tends to come around every 7-9 years or so. For a but I am cutting edge, then I am hip and with it, then I am so not over it...It just keeps coming around. I have no idea what is IN.

I laugh sometimes reading a Best Dressed Worst dressed thing, what and who decides what looks good?

Venus just brought the feather stick again, and Mim has joined her. DO there guys know how to party or what???

At 1:02 AM , Blogger vampi said...

well no, uggs make sense when it's proper weather and activity. actually i get really cold getting out of the pool, even on a really hot day, so the surfing thing make sense. wearing uggs to work or to the mall with shorts in lala land is just laffo. if it's cold enough for bots, it's too cold for shortie shorts.

but who am i to be fashion police, i'm lucky if i remember to brush my hair before i leave the house.

At 1:02 AM , Blogger Dragonsally said...

Aren't the height of some of the shoes just crazy. The shoes just look divine, great art - bad footwear.

I love my Uggies, but they are just my slippers, not streetwear.

At 1:04 AM , Blogger Adri said...

My cats are playing with a very floofy ribbon they rescued from the holiday wrapping pile. They also seem to think it's time to eat again. Really it should be well past time to sleep.

Q-- you live in the kind of place that uggs, with their sheepskin lining, make sense. Here (and in LA), they're just silly fashion accessories. I went bare-shouldered tonight and was just fine.

At 1:05 AM , Blogger Ticia said...

Doh! Just realized I was watching Tivo of Russell Brand! I've got to shuffle off to bed, fiends! Thanks for the entertainment all day!

At 1:10 AM , Blogger Na said...

Smart kitties, bringing the party to you.

"Shoe BLOGS!?" I think. But of course! And no wonder you knew about all the good boots, Adri!

Fashion and the fashionista thing have always mystified me. Not at all to put it down - obviously good for some people, especially the artists creating it all. I just keep wondering how anyone has the _time_.

At 1:10 AM , Blogger Adri said...

Ok, I think it's really (3am) bedtime for me. Happy new year, fiends! Thanks for being so warm, welcoming, and entertaining!

At 1:12 AM , Blogger Na said...

Uggs make some sense on cooler So Cal days if you're near the beach. :) But do they really work in snow? Seems like they'd not be water-proof. But I suppose don't wear them on the slushier days?

At 1:17 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Bare shouldered? Jealous I am.

Floor length mink here and not in the LEAST bit apologetic. It's freakin COLD...

And I lent it to El, who was sitting by the window and FROZEN at the pub.

Good deeds.

Hmmm. Yes. I haven't seen this side of midnight in too long. Tomorrow may be regretful.

Lovely day, it was. Happy Fiendish 2009 again. Thanks for hosting the round-the-world party, Ms FabLo.

Oh! Just remembered - if you're where you can see the stars tonight (or when it gets dark again, wherever y'all are) - check out the moon and Venus. Tonight, it was sliver of a crescent moon, directly above the planet, both astonishingly bright. (This shouldn't vary too much with latitude, right?)

'Night-morning all.

The Moon and Venus have been lovely the past couple nights - do look, if it's clear, not too long after sunset.

Happy New Year West Coast!

Yes, I continue to be slow.

Fashion? I can manage: will I freeze/overheat/be arrested/be inappropriate for work, but that's about it.

It is a beautiful sunny morning, and Morgan is sprawled sleepily in a sunbeam. Grendel urgently wanted his breakfast some time ago, but has forgotten and is now sound asleep. I thought Nick was getting up - we'd discussed breakfast options - but he is apparently in the same situation as his dog.

Guess I should go make coffee. Hm, if nobody else is up I can have cookies for breakfast, right?

At 7:19 AM , Blogger EmilyLady said...

Yes, okay, well, the Melbourne time post is the one that was left open on my phone, so that's where I posted. I did think it was a little odd that no one but me had been posting there.

I don't know quite how hungover I am, as I haven't ventured off the couch yet. I do really want some Gatorade and coffee, and Snoring Guy needs to die, but I don't feel horrid, so that's promising.

Watching the Rose Parade (set alarums JUST for this, even after Champagne Toasting EVERY time zone :))

Thinking of Quiche every time they show Fresians....

and of course the Medieval Times Andalusian stallions are pretty lovely as well!! (although....I think they might be using the term "stallions" a little loosely)

Now a pet food company has a float w/a skateboard track around the edge of it--for a skateboarding bulldog!! The float itself is a giant version of the dog and his board. You can probably guess what music they're playing!

Hey, does anyone know about The Victorian Roses Ladies' Riding SOciety? They are evidently a historical reenactment riding group from Northern California, with BEAUTIFUL victorian period gowns and habits. Wowzers.

And just to give a surreal note, a B2 Stealth bomber is doing a flyby. hehehe

Oh I have had days like that. Good luck with the standing and investigating-- hope you can manage some food soon!

Morning! Kind of...I am loving this parade update thing, Lys, I was thinking it was a shame I had not got up and watched one myself, but these updates work just fine. Who knew about the horses!

I want to do Things today...

At 11:19 AM , Blogger ariandalen said...

Yes, Nathalie, I know. ;)
Every time I mention brains, DD2 goes, "Oh, no! Not this again."

Ms. Fabulous, there's still 40 minutes of parade on the Travel channel. There's also a marathon of Iron Chef America on Food network.

At 11:25 AM , Blogger ariandalen said...

We will soon be having black-eyed peas with cornbread. Granted, the girls need to get beads off the table so we can eat.

First I've heard about greens on New Year's Day, though it makes sense. Black-eyed peas for luck goes without saying.

Well, maybe it doesn't. ;)

Oh, I left many horses out! This is a California parade; we always pride ourselves on our horses :)

And thanks to Ariandalen, I am getting to catch some of what I missed (getting breakfast and all) the first time.

If I'd known the Travel Channel was running this, I wouldn't have had to get up so early!!

Of course, Mimosas should always be drunk before noon. Yes, I mean that as typed :)

Whheee-hooo! Half an hur of parade for me!!!!!!!!

Who's parading too?

At 11:31 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Ok, call me out of it, but these are ROSES????????

At 11:33 AM , Blogger Adri said...

Mmm, peas, greens, and cornbread. Heavenly. When I was a kid I used to do bare tastes of the new year's foods (blech, greens?!) and now they're some of my favorite foods.

flowers and plants of all kinds I believe.

At 11:37 AM , Blogger Ticia said...

Parade of Roses here too!!

At 11:37 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Amazing.

Adri, I had not heard of this peas and greens tradition, where does it come from..

Of course, I didn't seem to know tat the Tournament of ROSES parade meant the floats were all ROSES, either...

Apparently I do not have New Years Day Traditions...

So for those of you who get the Travel Channel, you can still see the Shire horses....they haven't gone yet on the rerun.

I tried to find a you tube clip of the horses, amongst all of the stuff already posted for this year's parade, but no luck. Just old horse show stuff, with some of the (no, really!) SMALLER horses.

The Lopez Family (21 riders and ropers) are going by now. THey are pretty amazing.

At 11:41 AM , Blogger Ticia said...

Lorraine, the ENTIRE float has to be plants and flowers.. So you see rice and corn husks, leaves and flowers, fruits, anything living is used. It's VERY creative... Is it just me, or do the emcees seem EXTRA snarky to each other this year???

At 11:42 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I see the Shire's!

Didn't know parade's were this fun.

I have been doing a lot of HOUSE things today and am getting kind of scarily motivated. As in I may go shovel after the parade....

They must have been out a little too late, they are pretty, uh, un-animated.

When I lived in NYC I had a friend who grew up near Atlanta. We were always invited to her house on New Year's Day for Green, black-eyed peas and ribs. These last were her father's specialty which he would cook on his grill in Georgia and Airfreight up to us for her party.

Busch Clydesdales!!

This is hilarious. Angus pesters my mother whenever she takes her vitamins, and he's being especially obnoxious this morning because I wouldn't share my bagels and lox with him (he would get really ill.)

So, after double checking that it would be okay for him to have that much vitamin E, we gave him one.

He is still hunting it down and killing it. :)

At 11:46 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Q--now you see why I will get up so ungodly early to watch it, and why five million people (no lie) show up to see it in person.

It used to be much longer, with nearly twenty more floats, but they shortened it this year to fit in two hours. I remember watching it from 8 am to noon, when living in SB.

At 11:48 AM , Blogger Adri said...

Black eyed peas and greens (usually cabbage or collard greens, but I have chard today) are traditional in the US South for new year's day, bringing luck and money respectively. I think you can also do pork for health, but I'm not sure (most black eyed peas & greens recipes have a pork base, anyway)

I just looked it up and apparently peas for luck goes back as far as Babylon! Wikipedia article on black eyed peas traditions.

At 11:48 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Martha! You made it all the way west!

You know, they should have kept the parade long, for the people who wanted to see it all, and shown it on cable, the whole thing, and given one of the networks the chopped up version for the 2 hours thing.

Idiots.

Oh, re: draft horses as riding horses-- I want a warmblood (draft cross) as a saddle horse SO BAD.

Drafts like Clydesdales and Shires are actually shockingly nimble as well as strong.

I have to - my daughter lives in Oakland. I don't have able her and they don't show the parade on local TV.

At 11:51 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ticia, I'd have to agree with you that these two seem rather snarky. The HGTV hosts were much nicer (on the Live run). Al Roker was so obnoxious (on NBC) that I stopped flipping over, even though they had some better camera angles.

Also liked that HGTV had no real commercial breaks. They did it the KTLA way, with overlays.

At 11:51 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Where do all these flowers COME from??And do people stay up all night, uh, glueing them or something? I can't think they would LAST...

I need to know...

Wow - my first experience of blogger eating my post. I'll try again.

Lys - I remember watching all morning too - Ma was mad for parades - Thanksgiving, New Year's, Mummers, all of them - Pa and me, not so much. But, we both watched this morning, in memory.

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening fiends. Slept in, but not this long. Got up and put on clean pjs for the day's wear. How decadant.

Is someone educating Lorraine on The Rose Bowl Parade? Months and months of planning and float building - it's a HUGE production.

I'm sure you can googlecte it.

I thought the emcees were snarky, too, so kept the sound down.

At 11:55 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's because they just HAVE to show it live. Plus it gives them more pre-game time for the football game (sigh) The parade is a lead-in to the game.

Hey, keep watching! The individually ridden Shire horses haven't gone by yet, I don't think. My memory says they are right near the end.

Here they are NOW

At 12:00 PM , Blogger Ticia said...

I'll check out HGTV, Lys... Thanks for the tip. Lorraine, it's a huge undertaking, those floats. Each rose has it's own tiny vase filled with sugar water....

At 12:02 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

2000 lbs of horse!!

Unfortunately, Travel channel didn't show them for as long as HGTV did....hopefully there will be You Tube postings soon...

Just realized as they pulled the cameras away that this WAS the KTLA announcers. I didn't recognize the woman; they must have changed staff. Which might explain the snarkiness!!

Lorraine--they work on these floats for MONTHS. Designing for next year's float starts tomorrow for most of these people.

And weeks putting on everything but the most fragile flowers....those are saved for the 24-48 hours just prior to the parade.

It has been going on for, what, 120 years? And really got going w/the flower covered floats by individual cities when the powers that be realized what a huge advertising campaign it was for Southern California--look how lovely it is here, while the rest of the country is freezing!

At 12:03 PM , Blogger Lexocat said...

Greetings, Fiends. I didn't realize y'all are such fans of the rose parade! We almost wandered over to the route this morning to meet friends but ultimately decided it was too much trouble. Love the horses, though. They're always the best part. Come visit next year and we'll get you spots along the route. :)

Lorraine, like Ticia said, the floats need to be completely covered with plant matter of some sort but it doesn't need to be all roses. Any sort of flowers, flower petals, leaves, etc will do. Even seeds and bark are OK. One year I helped decorate a float, gluing whole flowers on a rather intricate frame only to end up covered with petals. And glue. It was messy but fun.

And yes, it can take days and people DO stay up all night. The most fragile of the flowers usually get placed last in individual tubes of water. The year I did it I remember the requisition rooms being the most amazing array of flowers I'd ever seen.

Of course, there were also the Dark Years when I lived 1/2 block north of the parade route. HATED the parade then (well, more hated the massive inconvenience the parade created). However, this was also in the days when there was little restriction as to how far ahead of time people could camp out on the sidewalks to save their parade-viewing spots. Some people were there for days and days.

I'm a bit more kindly disposed toward the whole thing these days. However, I do understand how those who dreamed up the Doo Dah Parade were motivated to do so. Heh.

At 12:04 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ticia--unfortunately I don't think any of the channels which showed it live (such as ABC, NBC and HGTV) are going to rerun it.

I was stunned when Ari posted about the Travel channel rerun. But DELIGHTED!!

At 12:07 PM , Blogger Lexocat said...

OK, I've not watched any of the parade coverage this year. Well, not yet but it'll run all day. The snarky announcers from Channel 5? Were they being snarky to each other?

At 12:11 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Lexocat-I hear you. The Doo Dah parade is much more a Fiend kind of thing, I think, if we were actually there.

It's just that when one is a thousand miles from home (California) AND loves horses, there is no more beautiful way to spend the morning of New Year's Day than drinking Mimosas and watching the Rose Parade!

At 12:13 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

The coverage only runs all day for YOU, Lexo!....we are tapped out, over here.

Though if anyone trips over it, please let me know.

At 12:14 PM , Blogger Lexocat said...

The parade gets rerun until 10PM here on Channel 5. I'm tuning in for a bit of it now to check on the snarkiness. There was a HUGE amount of ickiness between the announcers a couple years ago. I haven't seen the faces of the two this year but the voices sound like the traditional Channel 5 announcers.

At 12:15 PM , Blogger Ticia said...

It's the same announcers I grew up with, I think... It's Bob Eubanks and ??? (drawing a blank)... They've been doing it forever. They just keep throwing little digs at each other. It's weird.

At 12:17 PM , Blogger Lexocat said...

Lys, I don't begrudge anyone fondness for the rose parade. In the years I was away from Calif for NYD I was intensely nostalgic and yearned for it. I even like it now.

It was just those years of finding drunks, or their leavings, in the bushes and arguing with local law enforcement to let me pull into my driveway instead of having to go around the block AGAIN that sort of turned me against it. Those are not good New Year's Eve or Day traditions.

At 12:19 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Bob Eubanks I remember, it's the female face and voice that wasn't ringing a bell. Plus didn't remember the snarkiness being quite so bad.

SOOOooo ...my New Year's Day present to all the warm-blood crazy Fiends:
A Girl and Her Horse

At 12:21 PM , Blogger Lexocat said...

Stephanie Edwards. The woman is Stephanie Edwards. There was a big deal (last year? the year before?) where Bob got her booted out of the announcer's booth so he could be there with a younger woman. Stephanie was left on the street in the pouring rain (one of the VERY few times it actually rained ON the parade; I have my own theories of a Pasadena founding father selling his soul to ensure good weather for the parade but that's another story for another time). There was a great deal of local outcry at the shabby treatment of Ms. Edwards and KTLA responded to public pressure by putting her back in the booth this year. Personally, I'm thrilled they did so. But I think that might be the origin of some of the snark.

At 12:26 PM , Blogger AletaMay said...

Bob Eubanks! From The Newlywed Game? Honestly I am sorta surprised that he is still alive -- maybe he is not as old as I thought.

At 12:27 PM , Blogger Ticia said...

Well Lex, That would certainly explain it!

At 12:31 PM , Blogger Lexocat said...

Yes, Newlywed Game Bob! He's, er, 70ish. Stephanie is about 5 years younger. But she was deemed "too old" when he wasn't. Nice, yeah?

I thought I had things to do today... baking, writing, organizing, laundry. But apparently I was confused, and I'm going to one of Nick's friends for dinner. If perhaps I'd been aware of this BEFORE 3pm I could have done some things earlier, or NOT started on what I was making for dinner tonight.

So now I have to go get dressed, drive an hour plus, be sociable, drive home.

Bah.

Grumble grumble.

Happy New Year's Day, fiends! I am at my 19-year-old daughter's house, helping her clean, as she is getting a new roommate tomorrow (she had one, now there will be two -- really nice young women, btw). So I am cleaning and, I must confess, listening to college football. I love it. What can I say? :-)

Not a parade person, though. Not even when I was a little kid...

I am very sorry for your loss--of time! I HATE it when you have your plans prioritized and times arranged mentally, then a wrecking ball in the shape of "oh, didn't I tell you before?" comes along after it is too late to do things earlier.

Now I can go back to the Bones marathon. Stephen Fry is guest starring as David Boreanaz' psychiatrist...it's pretty funny. I thought I was going to clean this afternoon....but evidently it is tv watching puddle time instead.

I have managed dressed and presentable.

However, the one who ORGANIZED this, and I use the word loosely, is not yet ready. He is not dressed, though he is out of the shower, and is generally remarkably slow, to the point where we may well be late.

At 12:58 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Cool on the flower thing! I had no idea, I would love to see it, but I generally work on New Years Eve, so might not happen.

That WOULD explain the snarkiness, ick. Yea, e isn't too old (Or too fat or too whatever) but she is. People need to wake up to the real world...

Going to look at girl and her horse.

Mistress, I hate those kinds of surprises...Grumble away.

Way to go cleaning Grace. I sure did shovel. Magic was out when I went to feed him, tho he slunk away, he didn't RUN away. Progress.

It is going to be Tuna night for the Bengals. DO we know how t do New Years Day or what?

Never too early, if there are no interfering responsibilities, for the Shiraz. :)

At 1:04 PM , Blogger Phiala said...

Beady Bunch? That could be entertaining... beady little eyes? Beady jewelry? Beady 70s door curtains? *grin*

I have not been surly to Nick, it being a holiday and all, and truly not entirely his fault. (Except for the not being ready part, that's entirely on him.)

I've only been surly here, because I'm not surly AT any of you, just NEAR you, and what are Fiends for? :)

And, honestly, I'm surly at Nick rather a lot in recent months. But that's not at all a holiday topic.

I will go to friend's, and have roast pork and saurkraut, and enjoy myself, and do the long list of things tomorrow since I took the day off. All will be well.

At 1:05 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Q--but of course! hermmm....I want your tv....one big happy family, with very small eyes? *jk*

and methinks you are right; Nick may be at least slightly nicked before the day is done :)

All this talk of shoveling is reminding me to clean litter boxes (we follow the "one more than there are cats" precept.)

This is the sort of day when I do sort of wish I had cable. No interesting "marathons" going on here.

New Year's salutations, all! In our home, we are determinedly accomplishing little today. Some cleaning. Some straightening. Some time on the computer. Not working. Not shoveling. No venturing forth into the sunshine, but much opening of blinds and curtains to let it in. Such laziness feels decadent.

Well I missed out on the day here and mostly skimmed just now but will catch up on more post later. I am going to cook now (hummus, Butternut squash tart, pizza, etc) because although it is midweek it feels like the weekend. And I work early tomorrow and need food to bring. And don't want to cook Sat.

Grew up watching the Rose Parade but have not really watched it here. It's pretty amazing what they do with plants!

I am by no means up on fashion but would fully admit to being a shoe whore! ;) The only thing that saves me is that I don't wear leather so my choices are limited. I actually salivate when I walk into a shoe store. Sad, I know.

Some good food being had today it seems. Can't wait for the "pot luck" portion of our party in June.

I had the best New Years in years. Thank you so much Lorraine. You and Paul really sounded great last night. When you play the violin there are times when the magic is thick and I feel truly spell bound!

OK, hummus to be made. :)

ok, so i looked at the actual ugg site, and well their boots are fairly palatable, if still ridiculous for los angeles weather. maybe they aren't uggs that get me all riled up, it's the ugg rip offs with the pom-poms hanging from the top. just ridiculous. i saw some today, and it was like 70 degrees out.

Uggs and Ugg-types are wonderful here in winter.

They're toasty-warm and as comfortable as wearing your bedroom slippers.

If you spray them they're pretty water resistant too.

But if I see one more idiot wearing them in 90 degree weather with short-shorts....

It has to be the stupidest look out, doesn't it, uggs and short shorts or micro mini.
