Strange and Scary, But True...

I have long known that Bengals are highly intelligent creatures, more so than we can know, and that they most likely DO have designs on ruling the world. But I had not suspected the extent which they were utilizing the Internet. Nor did I suspect they followed my blog as closely as they, obviously, are.

I think it is certain to say Venus and Mim HAVE been reading the blog, and are getting a LITTLE but tired about me going on and on about how clever it is of my Leopard to put his toys in his food bowl every morning, after eating his food.

I do not lie. I speak and write only truth. (ok, writers are liars, but I am writing truth now) This was what I found in the Bengals food dish this morning....

I am not alone in being a tad worried now, am I?

Leopard, by the way is fine, and my French Prof used him in the lesson today. It was adjectives, and we wrote a little story on him. Sadly, she did not tell me how to say "He is a fiendish creature of doom and the night" which is how I suspect he sees himself.

I got this today from one of our Fiends, a small bookshop owner in Dublin, Louisa. Lovely about the Boss's books, but notice what she has done with her Shrunken Heads! We will populate the world with our Shrunken Heads!!!!!

And for some good news...Fiends, Thank You for donating to my "Any Amount, Any CD's" Bengals Rescue fundraising. Because of you, one of the things that happened this week, with only some of the money you gave, was that a Bengal who needed some heart tests and meds, got them. YOU made this possible. The fund did not have the money. YOU saved this Bengal Kitty.

And that is Something. We can't save the world. We can't save all the Bengals or Kitties, or Dogs. But we can do Something. We can make a difference for some of them. And to the ones we help, that is all the difference in the world.

I sent our Giftie Packs to everyone today. I hope. If you donated and do not get something from me within the week, I am sorry I missed you and you must drop me a note, please. UK, and Australia, give it a bit more time. Or if you get your pack and find something not what you wanted, let me know. If you still want to donate, go for it, this will be in effect until at least the end of the year. GREAT stocking stuffers....

Love and Magic,
Lorraine

oooh, scary bowl. What manner of bones be they? Or are there some digits missing?

That makes me feel really great about the bengal with heart problems. Hope he/she's ok.

Fabulous French lessons and are you still riding?

I'm going to the-back-of-beyond this weekend being a four day weekend. We have a day off for the Melbourne Cup.

The back-of-beyond has horses to ride and I haven't been on one in almost 30 years. Any tips you can give me?

Fantastic hair Lorraine, Fantastic!! Absolutely gorgeous!!!

well done Fiends!! One more lovely Bengal, that is a lovely thing. Thanks go to you, Lorraine, for making that happen too. I think that is a truly fabulous idea.

I knew your girls had senses of humour. I will worry though, if you come in to find them with their own little corsets or bras on. Then we will truly know they have been lurking here

At 9:01 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

The bones are a skull hand, in which one puts a glass candle holder. FOund that on the floor. And one of the fingers is broke off...

Want to be riding, just haven't had the TIME. Must call Melissa....

As far as tips go, I would say STAY ON. Relax, move with the horse, and have fun!

Hi Rubious! We have been missing you! Glad to see you back!

I do love this hair. And most importantly MADDY thinks it looks good and is cool. And 14 year olds KNOW these things....

Kitties in corsets?????

Mim claimed a velvet jacket of mine, she would sleep on it whereever I left it and take it down from a chair. I bought her a bed, and put it in it on the dinning room table and put the jacket in it.

Nope. They do not rule the house....

Yes,I know. Boys are not common here. Also, his name may not be Bela. Sorry, very sorry...Some Kitties don't TELL one what their names are...

Sigh.

I hope it doesn't end totally dorkily. It has rather captivated my interest.

At 10:26 PM , Blogger Ticia said...

You can really tell that by the photos Lorraine. You are an inspiration....

I have to figure out how to get the pictures off my phone and over here. Computering is not my forte. (but making up words is!)

At 10:28 PM , Blogger Ticia said...

Lys-

I've seen the entire "Tin Man"... I can hardly wait to see what your final analysis is........

At 10:33 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I know what you mean Ariandalen. If it were our house they'd still be on for Halloween in 10 years time.

Now a Bee-leash, I'd like to see that!

They don't make "Good hair days" for nothing. Sometimes my hairdresser straightens my hair and I love it. It will only last a day, though.

Can't wait to see if Tin Man is worth hiring.

At 10:33 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

SO must get this Tin Man vid....She mutters going off to Amazon Marketplace...

I can't get photos off my phone either, Ticia. Does anyone know? (making up words tho is highly cool)

Is anyone following the Sarah Silverman show? I think she is really good, and very talented, but what is UP with this show? I haven't made it 5 minutes in in any episode? How can something this bad air, or am I missing something?

Heard nothing good about her stand up recently in London. I sort of want her to suceed....

At 10:35 PM , Blogger Dragonsally said...

Ariandalen your car rocks...that is the cutest thing and even cuter because the car is black.

Doesn't look like any local kids are coming trick or treating, which means there are a heap of gluten free lollies there for me and Pete *happy grin*

Lorraine, if Maddy thinks you look cool there is no doubt about it - the hair is a winner.

Tomorrow: Carve pumpkin
Shrink apple heads
Have picture taken with
skull sunglasses on
Cook Samhain feast

Finish Night Garden poem?
Catch up on "Supernatural"
Go to grocery store

None of that in any particular order. CX

Sally, it's not really black. The official color is Midnight Blue Pearl. Usually, it's covered in a layer of dust, unless it's rained. Then it has a layer of mud.

Sarah Silverman has a show? (Runs to Tivo and "Season Passes" it)

I'll let you know next week Lorraine. She is a wonderful comedienne usually.

And, I hate to tell you this Lorraine, you'll probably never speak to me again.... I have an IPHONE...... Do you hate me now?.... If you were mad a Kitty, I can't even imagine the wrath you will direct at me...

Getting it off the phone isn't the hard part. The hard part is getting on Blogger.

Maybe my cute dog dressed up as a bee will soften the blow......

Quick, someone help me post the picture!!!!!!

At 10:43 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Sarah Silverman is wonderful, do let me know what I am missing on this show. She ought to be a huge hit! I had heard NOTHING about this show, until recently, which is odd.

I love this picture of the skellie digits in the dish. Say that fast; it sounds cool

skellie digits in the dish
we long ago gave up on fish;
bartered and traded their silver scales,
for tender morsels with finger nails

we mince and munch and
krunch
krunch
krunch
leaving nary a thread
nor a sinew untouched

in loving kindness
to our Mistress we leave
skellie digits in the dish
to show we are better
than He

that took too long and it's not even good but you get the idea.

Happy Halloween Fellow Fiends

dragonsally I am glad I don't live near you! yikes.

Stacy, LOVE the poem.

I know I have missed some poems and posts recently, sigh, the creative writing is the worst to miss. I love this group.

Lys – we have the same Daemon? Maybe I am your long lost Evil Twin? (I always wanted to be an Evil Twin…)

Louisa – love the shrunken heads – I may have to try to shrink some tonight (I did try one already, but I forgot about it and it turned into a charcoal briquette instead after I turned the over up to cook cupcakes… I was going to ask about the book with the umbrella, too, but someone (Phiala?) beat me to it. It sounds great – must see if I can track down a copy or two – it sounds like an ideal stocking filler for several people I know. (Do you do mail order, Louisa? Phiala, my only Fiendish Fiend on Halloween!

Yes, at least you have skulls....

Cabal wants me to take him to K Mart for a costume. I asked the Bengals if they wanted costumes and they told me I would have to die.

Not a bad start to Halloween...

At 9:28 AM , Blogger Lexocat said...

Vanished? No, I don't think so. I think those who missed comments last night are either overwhelmed or busy catching up. The others are practicing French. Thanks, Nathalie, btw! Yes, it DID make me happy ;)

And Phiala? My I thought of you when adding the dried cherries to my oatmeal a moment ago. I never realized there were others who liked it that way. I don't always add walnuts, though. Ground flaxseed is more likely. And a Scottish friend (fiend?) taught me to appreciate oatmeal with a bit of buttermilk. Sounds awful but is actually lovely.

At 9:31 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Oatmeal should always have lots of bits in it. Boss taught me tomake it, and I am starting t get the hang of it, slowly...

Maybe Fiends are all working, or dressing for the night....

At 9:35 AM , Blogger louisa said...

Oatmeal? Cinnamon, a little ginger, a little milk, honey or brown suger, raisins (aka humiliated grapes) and a banana or apple. Warms me every morning for the day ahead.

At 9:45 AM , Blogger Lexocat said...

Humiliated grapes, ha! Louisa I am stealing that for my personal use. And I love the ginger idea. I'll be trying that out on future bowls.

Lorraine, did Boss teach you about preparing steel cut oats? (According to Alton Brown, they are also called pinhead oats--and this cracks him up.) I've found trick is getting the right amount of liquid so you can walk away and let them cook. They don't like a tremendous amount of attention. Too much stirring means unhappy oats.

Dried coconut makes a nice addition to oatmeal too.

I like my oatmeal with bits of nummy things in it too. (Though I will eat it plain every once in a while.)

I've just been working fiendishly :)

and trying to deal with the fact that my boss apparently spent the night here, sent out an email that she is on vacation, and has been in her office behind closed doors ever since....

Unfortunately this is not as unexpected as one might hope but damned if I know what's going to happen.

I think Cabal should just go as a polar bear....

Just got back from taking Ben to school. I'll have to get a picture of him when I pick him up but he went as Wybie (of coraline movie fame) but then he didn't want to wear his button eyes so he's just basically a skeleton (skeleton shirt and gloves) and a big black Jack Skellington hoodie. his other costume was slinky dog from Toy story, it's raining here today and that costume is not rain friendly. When I pick him up I'll be in my other mother costume. I'll post a picture of that once I get it on.

Until then I'm wearing this. my mother-in-law pointed out to ben that I was wearing all black for Halloween... I had to point out that this was one of my normal outfit :P

I hate oatmeal, but Ben loves it. I make it for him with cinnamon, raisins (that he puts on -- two huge handfuls) and grated nutmeg on top, and a little milk.

Kitty domination discussions mixed with: costumes; inmates; french lessons; black as a normal outfit; oatmeal ruminations; corsets; witch lit.; music; bees; gorgeous hair; coffin couches; nerd panties; shadow lurkers; fiends???!!! aaahhh! I feel like I've found a home away from home!

Chantrelle, did you mean to post your whole album? Very cute tho...

I really do want pics from everyone doing something Halloweenie for when I come home tonight! I am up anyway after a gig, save me from running around crazily...

Humiliated grapes, I am so stealing that myself!!!!!!

He taught me a secret method involving kind of toasting different kids of oats, and tossing in dried fruit and cooking it a LONG time....

Morning Fiends!

Not vanished, just been here at work putting out fires. On my day off. On Samhain. Am MIGHTILY GRUMPY about it. The office is having to deal with me reeking of sage and wearing my 'Witches are Sexy' shirt. Only one person has started humming the Darth Vader song as I stomped through the halls, though. Must try harder.

I will take photos later, once I have fires out.

Occult oatmeal! How fiendishly appropriate. Should you ever be allowed to reveal the secret some of us would love to know, I'm sure :)

(It's pretty obvious I'm trying to avoid getting any actual work done at my computer today, isn't it?)

At 10:43 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Dread Val, indeed you must try harder!!!! One one Darth Vadering????

There is always tonight!

Lexo, well, I kind of would reveal the secret, but that's sort of it, put a little oil in the pan, and then the oats of various kinds, what ever you have, and sort of toast 'em around and add water and friend fruit and cook the heck out of it.

I never measure any of it...It just sort of works.

Hurray for surviving bats!

Dan wants me to dress up as a saint. Should I take the opportunity to have my boobs cut off (and good riddance) to emulate sainte Agatha? I would certainly feel much lighter...

So I'm back from the job interview.

Had an inkling it would probably go well when the woman in charge was wearing a rather lovely (and TALL!) black witch/wizardess hat, and the office manager had the most beautiful turquoise chinese jacket (tho I suspect that was personal style, not costume *g*).

Seem to be a great interview, even though they have a couple of items I've not done before...generally I do pick up things rather quickly, and hopefully conveyed that. The office manager and I shared a hug, that was different and-if not the most professional-surely a good thing! :)

So please, Fiends, think ever so positive thoughts for me! This is my favourite day of the year, so that should count for something.

Comments on Tin Man later, I have to drive to Albuquerque now ... just would like to say, I NEED a little magic now and then--and if I don't get it via TV/DVD, must drive over 40 miles to the nearest theater. That is worse than in Iraq! *g*

A final thought to leave you with, harkening back to yesterday's bra conversation...hehehehe
Viking Fashion!
oh, and Have a Bloody Good Time tonight, Quiche!!

Oh, oatmeal pilaf! I have got to try that. Somehow it never occurred to me, though it works so well with rice.

Maybe because I'm usually making oatmeal at 6:30 in the morning, before coffee? This sounds like a weekend thing to me.

And WHY can't I find the file I need?????

I will tell you this, Blackberry EATS your photos,
becaue Blackberry HATES Mac. Yep! True! You have to download (and pay!)

(cough it up sister)
(oh wait it is free now, bugger)
(i am learning how to use my glow linky thingy code writing here before coffee)

this will help you to download eaten phone photos.
but really ---truly---what you need is:

fingers crossed that glowy things work on the interwebs...
Happy Halllooween, all!

Ok, I don't hate you, Kitty. I just , you know, want to BE you! And now you have this cool new phone!!!!

I didn't know my Blackberry could (or could not) talk to my computer! And I haven't exactly figured out the picture taking thing. Come out here, Madonna girl and help me!

I will go to the links, but must run to the store for meat and candy. (Meat for the dog, candy for trick or treat, she mutters...Get it right.)

I LOVE the Ava Gardner witch picture!

I didn't really mean to post my whole album, oh well, i was distracted by plumbers in my house. No biggie.

The bat story is awesome, bats are so cool! I loved them in Sydney, they were HUGE and creepy-cool...and everywhere!

A metal bra! Wow, that sounds comfortable huh? Haven't seen that in the Angels line at Victoria's secret.

At 11:11 AM , Blogger Phiala said...

No candy for the dog, no matter WHAT he says! Unless you have some carob dog-candy, that is. Grendel just adores peanut butter-carob dog cookies, tho I haven't made any in ages. I've been told they are acceptable people-food, at least if you have chemically-induced munchies, tho I've never tried them. They aren't very sweet; I'd rather have people cookies.

You are so right, Q, the Bengal Alliance tried to hide my file so I couldn't use it for planning purposes... but I successfully navigated the horrible online interface, and now HAVE the map I need. It's just processing now, slowly.

Working???? Who's working???? Well; ok, I am but so what.
here goes.

Louisa- i'm also thieving humiliated grapes.

Oatmeal;
rip open packet
put in plastic cup; add a bit of water
place in microwave for one minute
Voila!

If it weren't for that; neither my child nor I (and my arteries thank me) we wouldn't 'do' breakfast; no time. El takes hers w/a spoonful of peanut butter & teaspoon of brown sugar. I just do the brown sugar. (and each have a dollop of fat free milk in it)

GRAVEYARD SHIRTS!!! I so SUCK 'cos I so MISSED that link!!!

Chantrelle you look adorable in yours and your hair is equally adorable.

Fruit bats (the story behind Child's book Stella Luna where our Ms. Stella O'Houlligan gets her name) are the bomb!!! Fell in love with them from the story and then on Jeff Corwin's show. They are too adorable & I love all kinds of bats; even what some would consider the 'ugly' ones. From the large to the small; we love them all!

El & I are totally excited about gussying up tonight in our demented brides dresses & rollerblades. We have cans of silly string to use and plastic pumpkin buckets that we will award candy from.

Will post pics tonight! Give y'all some more things to look at.

Fellow Fiends; please pity my bad memory & give the link for the graveyard shirts. I need one to go with my autographed copy (yes; I'm still so psyched about this I can't stand it.

Turns out; my friend that got it is a regular at Mysterious Galaxy in San Diego & when Mr. Boss was at the Clarion workshop he popped over & signed a bunch. Apparently that bookstore originated in Mn. How cool?

gotta run get El from minimum day. Fods! these get long... so sorry.

Hello. Phew, 113 comments! I'm completely lost. And how did it get to be 3:15 pm already? Finally I get a minute to myself and the day is GONE. :(

Hi to Mary, and Happy Halloween, y'all! :) I will try to produce some Halloweeny pictures. If nothing else I'll take one or two of my cats. They're always dressed for Halloween. And I may or may not be posting a Halloweeny story tonight for this little challenge issued by blogger Jack P. (He did a similar challenge last year-- there were just a few of us for that one, but it was fun.) I've barely begun, though, and I'mnot sure whether or not it'll be finished in time. I'm going to try, anyway-- we'll see how far I get by tonight.

Hope everyone's having a good day! Yay for saving Bengals! :)

Lysandwr - your Evil Triplet is sending you lots of highly positive thoughts about the interview - when will you hear whether you got it, do you know?

Kitty-Cat – just sent my order in (I set up a new e-mail to avoid the hassle I put you through last time ) Yay for Graveyard Tees. Of course, a truly organised person would have ordered one in time to wear it to Boss’s signing. I am not that person.

Viking bras! Who knew?

Lys, I'm sending you all the good get-that-job vibes I can muster, and since it's Hallow E'en it's a good night for it.

I shall have to be low key tonight, otherwise I would be holding down a spot at Kierans. I have to work at 6 a.m.. But it's all good- it's overtime, and perhaps I shall get a graveyard shirt with that paycheck- some of it is definitely going to Bengal Rescue. I'm so glad the Fiends were able to help the kitteh in need with the tests.

Son + Heir had a birthday on Wednesday, and his big plan is to go gaming at the local game store (an every Friday thing).

I am going to show up unexpectedly a bit later with birthday/Halloween cupcakes for all the gamers- some of whom are almost as old as I am.

It's all part of my campaign to be The Most Embarrassing Mother EVER!

muahahahahahaha

At 3:17 PM , Blogger Phiala said...

Oh.... me again, being difficult...

That Viking dress article is so wrong I have no idea even where to start...

The author has no qualifications in the area of textile research, and apparently is familiar with neither the surviving archaeological evidence nor the current scholarship on Viking dress. She presented it this past summer at the Northern European Symposium on Archaeological Textiles, to no acclaim at all, and quite a bit of disagreement. But the press liked the idea of Viking women in low-cut dresses and metal bras and ran with it. Badly.

Nope.

If nothing else, would YOU want a low cut dress and metal bra in a Scandinavian winter????

The metal bits are the brooches that hold up the overdress. There are pins on the back (yes, on the archaeological material), and for them to be wearable as breast coverings you'd have to be both oddly shaped and have some seriously sturdy pierced nipples.

It's in Swedish, but the National Historical Musuem of Sweden has a nice photo of the current thinking on what Viking women _really_ wore.

See the metal bits? Not a bra. (And not shoulder protectors for carrying heavy loads... WTF???)

I really don't know if this is an example of incompetent scholarship or incompetent journalism, but the result is just horrible.

(And yes, I own two sets of those brooches, and wear them regularly. And have spent years studying the subject of Viking clothing and textiles, though without any formal qualifications.)

Ticia, My Daemon is a whippet too, name starting with L...

I'm really disappointed. Nobody at all did trick or treating here, except for the spider. We didn't give him either by the way.
A Huntsman bite won't kill. And they tend to scuttle away from humans.
Some people won't even react much to it. Mostly a bit of swelling and feeling icky.
I do not plan to put it to the test, I assure you.
So many comments, its taken me half an hour to catch up.
