Got Me Some New Hair And A Gig For Halloween!

First things first, since we have been talking about this hair of mine and what to do since last night....Fuchsia, pink, light purple, dark purple and black. What's not to love??? Once again, I am hampered by my poor camera, so we are mostly relying on Photo Booth tonight. We'll get some better ones soon, promise!

Like say, at my Gig on Halloween! It occurred to me today driving down that I had NO plans for Halloween! And here it is two days away? What's up with that? The most wonderful day of the year????? Did some checking. Nope. No gig. Hmmm...

Here's some of the Hair in process......That was the Rat Nest of my head!

Well, Mineapolis is a small town, what are the odds I would not be welcome somewhere? (especilly with hair this cool???) The odds turned out to be very good, and I am playing at Kierran's, with Big Johny and Bedlam. Kierran's is the BEST place to play on Halloween.

Here's another of the Work in Progress....

When I called Johnny he said OF COURSE I was welcome! Did I have to ask??? I said, somewhat arrogantly "I know THAT! What are we WEARING??? It's Halloween! The most wonderful night of the year!" (Johnny and I go back 20 some years, we don't play stages the other isn't welcome on)

Turns out the band is doing Vampires. Hmmm..Kind of a stretch for me. Something black, flowing and Gothic. With cool hair. And a velvet cloak. May be covered.

I am right happy now. I have great hair, and a gig. Still can't believe I hadn't much thought about Halloween!!!!!!!!! Where has my brain been????

Thank you, Fiends, for all of your help deciding this hair today. We did good.

Love and Magic Hair,
Lorraine

Boy, I dunno if you can manage vampires, dude. I know it'll be hard to put away the unicorns and Barbies, but it's Hallowe'en, so you'll just have to try.

;)

At 4:54 PM , Blogger Siri said...

Yeah - seems that will be a stretch-maybe you know someone who can hook you up with corsets and such, and you can be a Vampira type person.....

(get it - hook you up.....)

Sigh

You look stunning!!!!! And very vampy ;-)

At 4:59 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Ikow, I know Val, and me such a sweetie. I can but try.

Very funny Siri, hook me up!!!!!! My shows are a little too energetic for corsets, besides that darn things are WAY uncomfortable. I can't play in them, can't breathe.

And I feel silly. And if you feel silly, you look silly. If you feel good, like say, long black and flowing and Vampy, that's what will come off.

It's all about FEELING good.

(A lot ofpeople would feel silly with black and purple hair, he-hee)

and here all this time i thought they actually bleached out the strands of real hair then colored them what you wanted. i'm so dumb. it rocks; and now i want some too! though; having all those little knots in back where they connect might take some getting used to.

At 5:42 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Thank you! I am wandering around singing " I feel pretty, oh so pretty..."

This does not impres the Benagls who counter with "We want some steak, oh some steak...You with the thumbs, open th efridge"

Hello Librarylion, and welcome! Any one who de-lurks for purple hair is cool in our book. Hope to hear more from you, especially if you work in a library, we are big fans. (and even if you don't)

Stacy, they LOOK real, and if you never noticed, that is because Amy is really good. They don't turn into rats knots unless you, uh, majorally neglect them. It's just every 8weks gettiing them re-done.

They only hurt the first day or so, as they are really tight.

Oh. Shiny!

Dahr-ling, the purple locks are gor-gee-ous on you! Do post more photos.

You need to visit Salem, MA in October. You would love it.

At 5:56 PM , Blogger Dragonsally said...

Oh so pretty!

My hair is so thick, I've always thought hair extensions might be a bit of an overkill, but looking at all those pretty colours I am tempted.

You look great!

At 6:02 PM , Blogger Jess said...

Woot! You look brilliant! I love it. :)

And no mauve! It was I who initially declared it mauve, and I make a full retraction, because it's not mauve. PMS 226 is not mauve. (Not that there's anything wrong with mauve in my book, you understand.) So don't blame Siri-- she was misled by my Vile Whispers.

That's be a good name for a perfume by Paris Hilton or something, wouldn't it? Vile Whispers.

This is the dancer thing. It tells you whether you are mostly right brained or mostly left brained. I think I am mostly right, but the spinny dancer seems to indicate my left-brain function works much better than I thought.

Which begs the question: Which side did I think that with? Yup. That's a poser.

Erin. Salem is so in the plan at some point! We wanted to go when we were ot there last year, shooting the vid, but then we ended up staying in NY...

My hair is really thin and fine, only way I can do it. I have some clip on ones in lovely colours Sally, I'll pop a few in your Bengal Thank you Pack!

WOW! Ok, so I am right brain, big surprise, tho after looking a while, I could make her go the other way, felt odd tho....

LibraryLion;

Welcome! You are SO right for here...I just perused your web pages...then jumped to McSweeney's then...well, it's all YOUR fault that I have a daemon now.

Managed to avoid the first rush of publicity (another country, old story) but the Golden Compass site is *nearly* as lovely as herself's new hair.

And oddly, after answering the questions, what did I get?
Shouldn't surprise any fiend:
Bengal Tiger.

I was expecting an otter.

Lys! What is this?????

Must go and find out about our Library Lion....

At 6:44 PM , Blogger Stacy Hurt said...

How FUN Lys! Got me a killer Daemon. Thx! I loved the books; hated the movie. With the notable exception of hottie Daniel Craig.

Fab; I do love your hair and must look into something more counter culture for myself. Wonder how that will go over in my insurance world?

At 6:49 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Stacy, it willgo over better than you think, here in this day and age....

Am loving these websites, Librarylion, but why can't I find a Demon of my own?

At 7:11 PM , Blogger AletaMay said...

Can't wait to see this hair in person. It looks great!

Kieran's on Halloween, huh? Most likely I'll be curled up with hot cider and The Nightmare Before Christmas but I'll keep Kieren's in mind in case I get the itch to be out with the spirits.

The dancer went clockwise for me, then I could switch it -- sometimes. I wish there was some explanation on the site as to what exactly is supposed to be happening when one sees it one way or the other.

At 7:13 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Stacy, Loved the books as well. Missed seeing the movie in the theatre and think it would definitely lose something being watched on DVD. Perhaps SOMEDAY when I have giant flat screen from heaven *g*

Lorraine; LibraryLion is *connected* library-wise! She is definitely a sister, perhaps a Lady even (think Arizona faire tea parties....) Then again, that is no doubt true of all your Fiends.

tho perhaps I gush so much because her picture reminds me of Linda Smith....who is another person I miss ever so....since this blog has made me spend much time thinking of my time in Mpls..sigh..then again...73 degrees today! *g*

At 7:19 PM , Blogger AletaMay said...

Lys -- Yeah, I got that much from the site but I want to know why they make this correlation. What is supposed to be happening in my brain. Like that.

At 7:21 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

oooh, sorry. Shoulda known.

So now I have an obligation to research that for you.

Back in a while....

disappears down the ribbit hole

At 7:21 PM , Blogger Jess said...

No, Aleta, they don't explain it very well at all, do they? I know it's basically to do with how your brain processes perceptual information, and that those processing areas will tend more to the left or right hemisphere of your brain-- those two columns to the side show which types of information processing happen in which hemisphere. But I don't understand it much beyond that, or why it is that, say, I can see both directions at once, or nearly at once, if I look at it long enough. I may have to go and do some digging about it. Hmm.

Hi LibraryLion! :)

Go to The Golden Compass movie site, Quiche, and click on "Daemons" up at the top.

I got Crow. Vile Whispers! Pieces of Eight! Raaak!

Linda Smith was the best, Lys. I miss her too.

At 7:22 PM , Blogger AletaMay said...

Oh Lys! No obligation at all!

At 7:23 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Lys, I too miss Linda Smith, we lost track a log time ago, but she was one of the good ones, do you know anything of her?

Lady LibraryLioness, might you be OUR Fiendish Librarian? We need one.....And would be honoured.

Aleta, would LOVE to have some Fiends down for the show, that would be so cool! And since the last show you saw was not so good..

It's way closer too! And you can see me decked out Vampirewise which sure as heck don't happen often.

More to the point, it's Bedlam and they are really, really good.

At 7:25 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Hold on here. We may be talking about different Linda Smiths...If Jessknows her too, I am talking about my good friend from Minneapolis the jewaler who married an Irishman...

I got a fox. That seems right for me, but I'm not sure why. I always thought my animal spirit guide was a racoon, based on some meditation training I had once. It couldn't be that I've changed over the years....

And I still can't get the girl to do anything but turn to the right. Sheesh.

Bed time for bonzo now. Night....

At 7:38 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

How is it with you guys getting the Bengals a Ocelots and me getting crow? Am I rubbing off on you?

Great Fods such doings here, the Pizza Guy could not find my house, which is understandable as it IS four-ish blocks away, and I went outside to wait and talk to my Neighbour and make a Plan to actually SEE eachother, and the Bengals and Kali lost it, screamed the entire time, throwing themselves atthe door, and have not shut up since.

I have GOT to get a life...

At 7:39 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Siri, watch her foot, and do it with your mind..And you are racoon, this I know. A good thing.

At 7:54 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Okay, I'm back!!
burrrrp..lots to digest

Seems the answer is both simpler and more complicated. How you see her has to do with the choices your brain makes based on data received via your eyes including some very subtle clues (real OR imagined):

Dancing Girl Deconstructed

Yet that still doesn't necessarily mean a THING about right/left brain dominance; some of these sites argue the relevance of that straight forward delineation:

Optical Illusion Ambiguity

ScienceLine

So...enjoy (or throw things at me because you think I have muddied the waters rather than clarified. But it was a fun swim, and you can follow links from these pages for MILES!!
Don't miss the basketball players...:)

Oh, Jess....If you mean Linda Smith the BBC radio commedienne, I didn't know her but it does seem a waste.

I was referring to Linda Smith the talented jeweler. And was SO hoping you were still in contact with her, Q! Oh, well. Didn't she have some family in Pennsylvania somewhere? I still have managed to keep ahold of the ever so lovely earrings she made me. But the ring has probably rolled down someone's heating grate somewhere. Sometimes those heat outlet obstructers have a GOOD purpose!

Fods,Lys! Getting way to late for such thought today.

Did I ever mention however how glad that I am you are back with us? Truly.

Lys and I tend to meet in really strange places.

One of my most fond memories was a winter we spent a couple months together in the desert in Arizonia. Played a , I know I will spell this wrong, a Brommely there, a very magic Morris dancer thing, with a fiddle tune that will rip you heart out and heal it, and can only be played then...

Lys, what is your e-mail, I have a sneaky plan...Drop me a note...

At 8:23 PM , Blogger Beez said...

That hair is amazing. I bet your Aimee is happy having a client who trusts her enough to just go for it.

Someday (and enough overtime) I want to do it. Yes!

I have the same kind of baby fine hair and I always wanted a mane. In fact, I have already put in my requests for my next lifetime.

I'll probably end up as a horse....a Shetland pony or some such.

Mine is a Tiger. :) Crows are my fav birds. I think I mentioned that I WILL someday rescue one and have an indoor/outdoor Crow. I really loved "His Dark Materials" so much. They came along at a very special and needy time for me and got me through the sh*t, so-to-speak. Those books mean a lot to me!

No surprise, really. ;)

Hi, Librarylion! I think all the straitjackets are one size, but we don't care if you can get out of one. It's okay. Really. CX

I'll have to check my LJ for my daemon. I did it last year, well before the movie opened. I think I have an ocelot. I know it is a wildcat of some time. Back in a bit.

At 8:40 PM , Blogger gaypet said...

I know that the grass-is-always-greener and all that but a mane is all well and good until one has to care for it. I have had to cut my hair short because of dreads that could not be gotten out. I like my hair now but it has been trouble in the past. :) Long, curly, craziness!

I was actually watching TV the other day and some ridiculous commercial came on for "product" to make hair shiny and "manageable" or some such thing. The model had long, straight, shinny loveliness for hair. There is NO product on the planet that is going to give me gentile hair! ;)

I am going to try to find a sitter for Friday. Kip's with Vamps for Samhain sounds, well, FABULOUS.

At 8:41 PM , Blogger bengalgirl said...

Love your hair, colors are wonderful. Where do you all find such fun links? The dancer started out only going clockwise and I tried to change it but no luck. Finally by looking away I could see the change in my peripheral vision and then slowly looked back and she was going counter-clockwise. And I am also a Crow, but I do like crows, very neat birds.

At 8:47 PM , Blogger gaypet said...

Quiche, they are. I have not seen the movie. Does anyone have anything to say about the Golden Compass movie? Good, bad, indifferent? The books meant too much to me to see the movie in the theater but I may Netflix it if any of you liked it.

I want to nominate Bengal Girl Janet as our official Bengal Expert, And again Library Lioness as our Librarian..

Arwen, are you recording?

My new webiste is going to happen very soon. The Web Elf from Boss's site has agreed to do it or me, so we will have a new home soon..

Big welcomes to Library Loioness, and our Bengal Girl..I am off for bed...Leave me something fun to read in the night as I wake....

I forgot to tell you, Ms. Fabulous, that you also look quite a bit younger. :)

Gayle, I enjoyed the movie. My daughters didn't have to much of a problem with it either. Granted, I haven't read the books, so I didn't have any preconceived ideas of what everyone and everything should look and sound like.

Rainie--hope you see this in the am, what w/all the other posts you will be flooded with!!

My email is greylemur at hotmail.com
(since I certainly don't mind other fiends having it.)

I've found Linda!! Or at least listings for various art festivals and shows. Looks like she is still married to Harry and, if white pages are to be believed, still living in what I think to be the house they bought when I still lived there.

Sorry for the boring notes to the rest of you, but this is actually pretty exciting to me. Had to use some body english on the Google (just how many Linda Smiths do you think there ARE online, anyway? :)) and was happy w/the results.

Found some contact info, if and when you might choose to use it.

Now I'm off to see if I can email this to you properly :)

Oh, and for those that wondered--yes still up because of Tin Man....yes, so far it is worth it..
and if nothing else, special award for BEST USE OF CORSETS IN A MOVIE WITH ALAN CUMMING AND RICHARD DREYFUSS. And that's Saying something!!

Night all.
This time for sure. Might be a few days before posting again, so Blessings and All Hallow's Eve wishes for good fortune to all of you!!

Right. I know this one.

The water in toilets swirls in either direction regardless of latitude or longitude, which means that toilets are both-brained. The brain is in the tank, near the flush arm. So that it knows to flush when you push the handle.

A clog means the brain is dead.

Am I correct that you are in the Bay Area?

Good morning, Fiends and dæmons!

On dæmons: mine is a tiger. Proud, assertive, solitary, and a leader. Nothing about fearful symmetry? I'm disappointed.

On hair: I have dreadlocks in my hair, done the same way as Quiche's extensions -- yes, the pinchbraided bits can hurt a bit until they loosen up some. For me, that takes a couple of days. I've had these dreads in since... er, April (oops). Those of you who live close enough to go see Quiche's miracle worker -- go. ;) Stacy, come see Hair Police with me when they make it out to LA every couple of months.

On corsets: if a corset actually fits properly, it shouldn't be displacing ribs, keeping you from breathing, or uncomfortable. The catch, however, is getting one off-the-rack that fits; as wearing one rapidly highlights every way your body is special. Corsets are extremely comfortable for me -- I wish I could get away with wearing them every day without getting fired. But I also have to wear custom bras, so if structural engineering isn't a requirement for you, you might find corsets less comfy. (Speaking of structural engineering, did anyone else ever wear Charnos' Bioform bra? Designed by structural engineers. I loved them and am incredibly vexed they're no longer being made.)

Val, I have a really hard time finding bras too. I order mine (mostly from England) but if you know a brand I should try I would love to know. Corsets off the rack (ha, ha, rack...) never fit! I put in a request to Malena for non-leather products and maybe some day I will have the $ to have her make me something fabulous.

For anyone keeping track, by the way, the official synopsis for this thread now runs thus:

1. Hair
2. Brains
3. Spirit Guides
4. Toilets
5. Bras

I think all bra designers should have a structural engineer on staff. The world would be a better place.

Phiala, I just know we might have been separated at birth.

Oatmeal with dried cranberries & walnuts for me.

Isn't the gorgeous one awake YET? All that beautifying must have done her in.
Halloweenie tomorrow! wheeeeeee

Val; you're so ON w/the hair police. I need them!

And the bra thing; yes; very difficult to find bras that fit; Runs in our family; had to take Ellen (don't tell her I shared w/you...to Victorias Secret; the girl is 5=11; size 10 shoes; and is a 'gulp' DD at 15!! Fod help us) Try finding one of those stupid bras with the tiny plastic see thru straps in that size for her dance class! And though they have them it's rediculous! You honestly can't have that much weight (apologies to Dan if he's reading) resting on non=plyable 1/4 inch straps unless you like the feeling of being garroted through your shoulderblades.

I still find it hilarous that even at that size (i wear the same one) they have the damn cup inserts! Like what? I'd want them even bigger? Fods! My only consolation with El is that she is not a flaunty girl (truly shouldn't flaunt those attributes until you are ready to wield some real power behind them preferably w/a cat-0-9, and she's she's certainly much too young for that yet).

When we are all grown up into full woman w/the mind to match; it's no wonder to me that truly we are awesome powers to behold. Long live the Godess!

I'm awake. Kind of. A little. Sort of.

You Fiends are going to scare away the boys with all this Bra talk. You need to throw the word"Breast" into your sentences, they don't care what you are saying, as long as the word breast is there...

Tea now. Proper talk soon.

Had I but known that engineering could lead to a job that offered such perks! (Oh the possible puns...)

Gayle, yes I always go along with the kiddies as they run around the neighborhood, giddily grasping their ill-gotten goodies. It looks as if it may stay well above freezing this year!

I am definitely a fan of corsets, but then again I've only ever had to deal with them in a secondary nature.

On the Golden Compass movie, I have not read the books and I did not find the movie all that special. It did, however, make me want to read the books. I've still got four others to get through at the moment. *happy sigh*

I really enjoyed the image of a melon-o-lantern Amy. Honeydew or other?

At 8:55 AM , Blogger Dread Val said...

Stacy and Gayle (Or anyone else who is interested, I suppose), email me at vtrullin@pantagruel.net, and I'll tell you all about the Sekrit Place where I get my bras.

I feel your daughter's pain; by the time I was nine, I wore a C cup, was 5'8", and my voice had deepened to its current pitch. 26 years later, I'm 5'10" and wear a 38H bra. It's my duty to help out younger Amazons. :P

At 9:11 AM , Blogger Amy said...

Then melon-o-lanterns were great. One honeydew and one cantelope. They aren't dry like a pumpkin, so both of them looked like they were drooling. It was awesome. The mess they made wasn't quite so great though...did I mention a LOT of drool?

At 9:25 AM , Blogger Dread Val said...

Paul, I watched a documentary on the Bioform bra, where they interviewed the two engineers. One of them simply said, 'This is the best project I've worked on. EVER.' The other said some variant on 'Thank God I went into engineering.'

Nothing like a man who's passionate about his work…

At 10:13 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I want to make a melon lantern. Mess and all.

Awake. Still Tea-ing. Tea is my friend.

At 10:46 AM , Blogger ariandalen said...

Stacy, you could always try Lane Bryant. They carry all types of bras from at least 36-46 band size and B to probably H in cup size. I seem to have the opposite problem as you, your daughter, Val and other Fiends; I wear a 42B, yet I lack a 1/2" being 6' tall, and wear size 11 shoes.

Both daughters' pumpkins are carved. Now I just have to do mine. It's nice and skull shaped. CX

We have dance class in costumes today. DD1 can wear her costume to school tomorrow. Saturday night we have our home owners association hay ride for trick or treating, as we're all on at least two acres and the subdivision is rather spread out. The hay ride being bales of hay lining the edges of flatbed trailers being pulled by pickups. It works out pretty well, as this is the sixth year it's been done.

Yay for halloween gigs and magic hair! Love the colours!

I’m home, knackered but happy from seeing Boss’s reading in Manchester (which came with bonus Jonathan Coulton – I’ve done a proper report back over at my blog . which as you can see I have started specifically for the purpose. In short, it says I had a good time :-)

Val; isn't the bioform one that got picketed due to it's errmm; "nipple coverage"? meaning you can't see them. Personally; I would like that feature. No sense going around work with your headlamps on.

There was a group of artists who got together to do nipple celebration art. I'll jaunt down Ly's rabbit (even though she wrote ribbit- which i like better) hole and see what i can find. I didn't participate due to the fact that they operate on the premise that it's offensive to make women 'supress' their natural body parts. If they start threatening to do the bra-less thing I'm really going to be miffed. Some of us NEED our bras for comfort and coverage as well. It's all right for the smaller cups to go without; that's sexy; but truly; when the 'breasts' are large and heavy they start pointing in directions they aren't supposed to go in and adding any movement to that is just Fod's sense of demented humor.

Val; I remember just before I had my daughter; I went into the Motherhood Maternity store to look for a nursing bra; the gal asked what size. I said "I need a 34G." She looked at me and said "What?" I said '"G, as in OH MY GOD" The entire store erupted in laughter. My girlfriend with me at the time even laughed and she's very sensative about such things being in her terms 'concave'. I envy those women. It would be nice to be able to run without all this body english. Sports bras are the worst; one day running I nearly fainted 'cos they have to be so tight around your ribcage you might as well be in a corset!

Fods! I gotta get some work done.

At 11:28 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I retook the test because I couldn't find it and got a monkey. Bleah..don't like monkeys.

*blinkblink* Custom bras?? They really exist? Sign me up! As a 38G who is only 5 ft tall, my shoulders would be much happier with something that fits.

Doesn't it seem weird that engineers haven't been more involved in this kind of design? I've always thought that if they can design suspension bridges, they should be able to design a better bra.

OK, now I've gone back and read all the other comments..

welocme Library Lion! We need more libraries and librarians.

My Daemon is Persoan, the Tiger (we've a lot of cats here, haven't we - can't be a coincidence...) I loved the books (also Philip pullman's Sally Lockheart books, which are totally different but lots of fun) - I quite enjoyed the film but felt that it had had the edges softened a bit, which was a shame.

Bras - I'm not so well endowed as some here but me sister, who has a lot more to flaunt than I do swears by Bravissimo - They do clothing as well as lingerie and it is ALL designed for women with actual woman-shaped bodies.

I'm not going to be doing any pumpkin carving but if I feel energetic may make some more mini cupcakes for any trick or treaters who venture out into the cold tomorrow evening. It is the coldest day we've had this year, here, and I have just discovered that the timer on my boiler is broken so I can only turn it on or off by hand. I have a horrible feeling that if I get someone to come and look at it they will say that the whole think ought to be replaced . . and if I have to have a new boiler it would be foolish not to put some proper heating in, and there go my life savings... which I'd far rather spend on new boots, and books, and music, and cats. .

Q, is there any chance of anyone recording part of your gig so you can post it and let us hear?

Happy Hallowe'en to all

(If the really beautiful girls who dressed as the Endless and gave Boss a framed picture of them are reading this, I SO STOLE IT! With permission, for the Spooky House.)

I am truly hope, Marjorie, that he ate your cupcakes and they are not in the next box....

Engineers have had centuries more practice with bridges, Kali. The bra has only been around for a little over a hundred years.

Stacy, even small breasts sag with age and after childbirth. We just don't have any back problems due to having large breasts.

The genetics of breast size are odd. My mother was a C cup for most of her adult life. Her mother was at least a C cup, but I don't know for sure because she never wore a bra; she wore clothes a size too large because she couldn't stand anything that close to her skin. My paternal grandmother was a DD/E cup. Then there is me, who during high school and college didn't even fit into a B cup, though I do now. The only time I wore a C cup was during pregnancy. I have been called "sir" more than once, to my face, the last time was two years ago on my birthday. Believe me when I say I DO NOT have a man's hips.

I order bras from this site because you can search by size. I'm 5'7" and a 34 I. Some of the brands on the above site are from the UK and are labeled 34 G but are the same as a US 34 I.

I will email or chat you Val. I would love to know where you get yours.

At 11:49 AM , Blogger Dread Val said...

Stacy, I don't know about the picketing... mine are certainly visible in a Bioform. And yeah, forget braless. Nothing to do with shame, and everything to do with support.

Sigh.

Marjorie, Bravissimo is awesome! Clothes for women with curves, instead of just making everything shapeless tents; what a concept! I wish shipping from the UK weren't quite so ruinous, though.

Jacquib;

??? What, your daemon? There are crows in here, several of them.

Interesting that Marjorie's tiger has the same name as my daemon. Does that make us Soul Mates?

Jess--you forgot
Tin Man (or perhaps, Books Into Movies)
people named Linda Smith :)
Corsets (don't consider that entirely same subject as bras)

And s'pose we can add
Oatmeal (yay cranberries!)
Melon-O-Lanterns
Gluten-free Cupcakes
Things in boxes

At 2:59 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

And hares aren't necessarily bottom of the food chain; I've met some seriously surly jack rabbits in El Paso and New Mexico with the physical attributes to match.

Just sayin' *I* wouldn't pick a fight with them.

At 3:38 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hi Lysandwr,

Thank you for making me feel better :)

I would have thought crows were at the top of the food chain. After all, they're the ones picking the bones long after the owner of said bones has drawn it's last breath.

However, they're strength is their weakness and even they eventually end up as roadkill.

Wow. Look what I miss by going to work.

I shall email you Ms. Val, because I want in on the Sekrit Bra Place.

Ok, I was wandering the interwebs, looking for a statue of the Goddess Caffeina (one of the Office Gods) so I could have her in the coffee shop I am running right now, but alas she is a Discontinued Goddess.

However- there was our very own pantagruel with hers. Hurrah!

All hail Caffeina!

So, is this the place where we mention pneumatic breasts?

At 4:07 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Crow are carnivores, aren't they? They are also smart, and know Everything long before anyone else here's the stories...

Who dis-continued a Goddess? Someone is going to pay for this....

At 4:16 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Crows: pseudo-omnivores

The Crows diet is varied: seeds, garbage, insects and mice. It is well-known for its nest-plundering, but in orchards and fields it destroys many injurious insects. Crows do destroy many eggs and nestlings of woodland and meadow birds, but they also weed out the weak and feeble, and they alert the animals in a neighborhood when danger approaches.
Then again, they seem to perform carnivore functions.

Then again, pigeons used to land on my lap in Santa Barbara trying to eat my fried chicken lunches...*while* I was lifting, say, a drumstick up to my mouth!!
:)

At 4:32 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Lysandwr, you're a walking encyclopedia. I thought I'd get in with some crow information before you, in my last comment. However, my google is Australiancentric and all I got were pages & pages of the stupid Adelaide Crows, which are a stupid AFL Football team over here! And I gave up.

We have big problems with seagulls here. Rats of the air they are. Always pinching food out of your hands, especially the kids.

Kookaburras do it as well down at Wilsons Prom. Which is a gorgeous national park, unfortunately many visitors think its cool to feed them, not thinking what a problem it is for the birds and everyone else when they do that.

When we were in Africa, one day we stopped for lunch. One of the guys in our group was lifting the last bit of dry biscuit to his mouth and just about had it in, when a hawk swooped down and stole it.

Unfortunately, its talons also cut his mouth as well, but not too badly. I thought the accuracy and speed were amazing.

At 4:42 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I wish we had Kookaburras here...And Tasmanian Devila.

Not to mention Cane Toads...I saw the BEST documentary on Cane Toads, ever. It said the were introduced to eat a specific bug pest, only they never thought, "Hey, what will eat the Cane Toads???"

NOW there is trouble!

At 4:55 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Cane toads are vile.

They're ugly, disgusting things and not only do they spit, but they spit poison at you. They can be a problem for domestic animals.

A popular pastime of Queenslanders, is to get out the golf clubs & practice a few swings to see how for they can hit them.

They are also the only animal you swerve for in order to run them over.

The big fear is that they'll eventually migrate as far as Melbourne. I was reading an article awhile ago where they said that the cane toad's legs were getting longer and they were able to hop further. However, this degraded their joints and they were getting arthritis.

So, maybe by the time they get to Melbourne, they'll be on walking sticks or in wheelchairs!

so plenty of time to Google while the internet is working. If I may so myself, I'm a bit of a fuzzy logic queen. My search strings/parameters sometimes make people scratch their heads...and it isn't always a good thing!
It used to be more fun when there were so many MORE search engines and you didn't have to filter against paid results.

That said, I've not found a proper Caffeinia statue. But LOTS of illustrations and paintings, various incarnations of Caffeine Goddesses.
And I just fell in LOVE with this one:

Angus (my beautiful Orange fellow) licked or ate something today (still haven't figured out what it was) that had me worried cane toads had made it to New Mexico. Don't worry, L, he is okay now.
But for a while there he was leaping, convulsing, and drooling massive amounts as he kept wiping his jaw against the concrete of our driveway. Imagine my panic. sigh
He HAS stopped asking to go out, however.....

btw, thankee for the compliment, my dear. I blush *g*

One thing I know is my beloved corvids. I can tell you the other day I had a halloween moment. There was a family (they live in large family groups) beating the crap out of a rat. They each had a piece of it and the older ones had a hold of some of the entrails and it was hilarous watching them eat their 'spagetti' as it were. I could almost hear them saying "MOOOOOOOMMMM, it's doing it again!!!!" and Mom cawing back 'Stop playing with your food and eat it!"

Rabbits have their own vodoo strong magic. Especially in Native American culture. The rabbit has the ability be both frightened but absolutely courageous in the face of danger.

Besides; didn't we learn that from Monty Python? I still laugh till I cry when I watch it.

'It's a big hairy beast!"
"What? You mean behind the rabbit?"
