Gnawing Her Leg Off

It seems fitting that since tonight's post is the start of The We Support Kitty on Tour blogging, that I got a package in the mail from her today, with my NIN cd!

Kitty, as most of you know, is stuck in a trap, gnawing her leg off, desperately trying to free herself and come back to the real world. Yes, she is on tour with the Jonas Brothers, who by her accounts are really nice kids, and she has no complaints there, but being on the road with a huge band is brutal for the crew. (and the performers for that matter)

I started adding up once, all the things that would need to happen, and mentioned to her that I thought I had this wrong as it would seem that she might only get 4 or 5 hours of sleep at night, and that on a bus.

Yes, she said. You are correct.

So I thought since she certainly won't be blogging much, I could do it for her, and we could all offer words of support for her to read in her, uh, down time.

Today, as I said, I got the NIN cd and am looking forward to becoming one with the NIN. I also, with the Bosses help, learned all about Last.fm. Found out I had an account (he was my only friend) but I had five other impending friends, including Aleta and Spacelaw. Now I have 6 friends.

I could send all day there! ALL the music of the world is there! Heck, MY music is there (who knew??) It seems terrible unfair that what I am meant to be doing is listening to 9 hours of live Paul and Lorraine and culling the best hour for the cd. Hmmph.

It's odd listening to yourself, live. I am learning a lot. I have learned that I rock,( who knew I was GOOD??) that I am very funny, that I make a LOT of questionable musical choices (meaning SUCK!) and that I am a dork (as in I can't believe I SAID that). All in all tho, wonderful fun! Reminds me of that Clint Eastwood line

"Sometimes the magic works and sometimes is doesn't"

(Wait, that wasn't Clint Eastwood. What movie was that from???)

I think tho, we will have enough great music for a really fine cd. We are still deciding about format, but it will be available online for downloading, and you will be the first to hear when it is ready. I wish I could put all nine hours up and have you all pick the songs for us, but raw un-mixed tape (as it were) is, like the road, brutal.

So in conclusion (always wanted to say that, no idea why..) Kitty is out there on the road for the next 40 or so days. Let's send her all the love and support we can, yes????? I'll be telling Kitty Stories every post (HA! Kitty, and I do have some rare ones!) and hopefully she will read them and feel loved.

And come home soon!

Love and Kitty,
Lorraine

I felt tired just traveling in the car from Rhode Island to South Carolina, and this was without any hefty responsibilities to bear. I can hardly imagine the strain Miss Cat must be going through.

Lorraine, how are you feeling?

Poor Kitty, I sent her some support over at FurryTiger, and will offer it here as well. (4-5 hours of sleep a night? I'd be the walking dead)

ooo..Last.fm..looks really interesting..but I'm gonna have to get a new computer first, as my present 'puter is pretty geriatric.

I am feeling just fine and thank you, it went, uh, thru and was fine.

The road is hard. And working production harder still. And you have to be perfect, can't miss a thing, I've watched Kitty backstage at shows, and know.

Last FM is wonderful but I suspect it may eat more time than I have. I want to Facebook too, (myspace is SO over, sorry) but know I really don't have the time. But I am leaning that way...

Sue wants to be my last FM friend too! I love it that you can see what your friends are listening too, all thru I tunes, this is so way cool!

My neighbours are having a fire tonight, and I would join them, but since I am so tired and can smell it from my couch, I may just sort of wave....

Ms. Kitty, each day is one less day you have to listen to screaming female teens and preteens. It also brings you closer to home. Take rest where you can get it, even if it's only for five minutes. It won't last forever.

::sigh:: I suppose I'll have to look into Last.fm.

Looks like poor Kitty won't be getting enough down time to get anywhere near a computer (I'd use any available time to sleep). I only sleep 5 hours a night but that is in my bed at least, so full sympathy. I hope the bus is at least comfortable.

Figured out another Last.fm thing the other day. I had got puzzled by the fact that Neil's recently played list showed consecutive songs from the same artists whereas the rules of the radio station tool says that you can't have that (unless they are free tracks). I only figured out this weekend that it was the music he plays on his computer showing up... (Am a wee bit slow). I have sent you some suggestions too (French music).
Dan and Hera are also on there, by the way.

Oh and meant to ask: Since you will be treating us to anecdotes about Kitty, it might be also a good idea to try and explain - if it is at all feasible - what is her job. I suspect it is just as tentacular as yours but I only have a foggy notion of it apart that it is hard work and it takes her all over the place expect for Minneapolis.

Sending waves of strength and awakeness to Kitty.

Your storms sound pretty exciting. We hardly ever have thunderstorms here, but I love them. I might love them less if we did have them, I suppose...

At 6:59 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Yes, please do send me French music ideas! This will help in the never ending quest to learn the darn language.

What Dan are you speaking of?

One of the things I will do is explain Kitty's job at some point. I do know she does different things, and that the last time I saw her it was very like what I do, making things go right for everyone.

Nice use of tentacular, Spacelaw, impressive. I am so stealing that.

I like thunderstorms a LOT I am not quite ready to be one of those people who goes out tornado chasing, but I may become a trained spotter this year.

At 7:02 AM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

Tentacular is apt since both your and Kitty's job seem to require far more hands that are usually coming with the standard human costume set.

At 7:09 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Hee-hee, I truly wish we had more hands. And I was three people. Then I could get some things done...

I'm sure I told you that all the Flash Girls was on last.fm really I did.

My current goal in life is to become the kind of person who has a Lorraine-analogue to keep everything working. Preferably by my own efforts, but winning the lottery would work too. As it is, I can't seem to get everything done and get everything else done too.

At 7:24 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I think you did mention that, come to think on it, Phiala...

Good to know it's just not me, this whole being way to busy. Is this a trend now, I keep thinking it never stops, I always seem to have way too much to do.

When was the last time any of us woke up and thought "Whmm...What should I do today??"

One funny thing, on another topic. Venus and a Male Robin are developing a Thing. This Bird sits on the post railing of my walk, and chatters at her, and she yowls right back.

The first couple times it happened I didn't thnk anything but, oh how cute, but they are at it again...

Dan, do you have anything to do with this?

At 7:27 AM , Blogger Dan Guy said...

Rest assured that fostering good will between Bengals and birds is the *last thing* on my global harmony to-do list.

At 7:28 AM , Blogger Phiala said...

I'm sure have enough to do (or want to do) to keep several people busy, if only I could pay them! All attempts to teach the dog to vacuum have failed miserably, although he insists he'd be happy to clean the dishes.

And in the "too much to do" category, y'all are a horrible, horrible influence! I finally gave in and signed up for last.fm myself. I've used it for a while to listen to stuff, but never bothered with an account. (And no, in case anyone looks, I'm NOT phiala but phialastring. Someone already had my name. *pout*)

I think we all know what Kitty does on theses tours: she's the one who carries the giant key around before the curtains part, winding up all of the clockwork musicians.

I have also heard it said that she used to ghosts vocals for many lead singers, but had to retire that part of her enterprise after the vocal contortions necessary to provide Axl Rose's singing voice lead to tragic neck-strain. And GNR has been dead in the water ever since, waiting desperately for computer effects technology to advance far enough to simulate it.

Last.fm is nifty. You all can find me there as 'culfinglin.' Actually, I'm going through and adding you all now, so just accept the friends request thingy.

I have not forgotten about the flyer.

Kitty, good luck with your tour. May I suggest ball gags for the squealing and shrieking girls?

At 8:02 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Phialastring, (Poo on someone having your name!) Tried that myself, the Dog won't vacuum . Or do the washing up. But he does bark to let us know when someone comes to the house. Or a rabbit goes by.

Find a teenager to come over twice a month, you won't regret it, and do some cleaning, or find a friend and do a once a month party at each others house, I never mind cleaning for someone ELSE.

I can see myself spending WAY too much time with Last Fm, we are evil....Put some Lorraine a' Malena up yesterday. I should do Folk Underground too, which was Paul and I with a drummer.

Dan is right, Kitty did ghost vocals for a lot of metal bands. There must be a story as to the real reason she had to stop....

Thanks for working on the flyer, Val, speaking of how busy we all are, I know you are in the same boat, and it is good of you to help me with the Kitties.

I spent about 10 min at Last FM and realized there was no way I was going to have enough time to futz with it. Maybe when the school year starts I will try again. I do enjoy Facebook because it helps me keep up with friends around the country.

Time enough to get things done? Hmm. Sounds great except that I would probably just add more things to do. You know, "Hey I have 5 extra minutes. I should get a puppy." Or something like that.

All the best to you Kitty!

Oh, by the way, it's my b-day today. My son and I are going to make cupcakes with pink (his favorite color) frosting and sprinkles (which he calls pickles).

At 8:22 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Happy Birthday, Gayle!!!!!!

Have a great day with pink and pickles!!!!

Happy Birthday!

At 8:28 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

SO, tell me how this works....I am adding you all as Lastfm friends, does that mean I am your friend too, or do I need to go in and ask to be your friend as well?

I wouldn't want these friendships to be one sided....

At 8:32 AM , Blogger Phiala said...

Pink pickles, I love it. Happy birthday!

It isn't so bad being phialastring instead of phiala... my given name is Sarah, and there are zillions and zillions of those. I'm just happy to have a fairly unusual nickname.

Happy Birthday Gayle! May your New Year hold wonder and adventure and calm and serenity all in proper measure!

I am sending good vibes out to Kitty. Having what may look to others like a very cool job does not mean that it is not very hard work and sometimes not cool at all. One day, one show at a time will bring you through to the other side of this particular adventure! My wish for you is some unexpected pleasure each day.

I use the last fm playlist too, not just the radio station (and of course feed my iTunes through it too). Such fun.

Lorraine, you could also join spacedlaw and I on LJ. Many online homes available. Maybe you should Twitter too!

Ah! Amazing! Having wondered about one of Lorraine's nicknames for a while, I JUST found out that there is actually a dish called Quiche Lorraine. You all must have known that, but right now I am just very surprised.

Quiche Lorraine ... that's something I would never ever have guessed.

Little Big Man! That's it. You rock.

Thanks Gayle, for putting up flyers! (the flyer by the way, rocks! Thanks to Val!) If there is anyone else in Minneapolis who would like a copy, or knows somewhere to post one, Let me know and I'll e-mail you a copy.

(I would say all of you, but it would be best if they could be adopted locally)

ALETA! No luring me down evil time consuming pathways...!!!!!!!! What's Twitter? (she says comdeming herself...)

Emily, you just made us laugh, in a good way. Yes, there is a dish called QUiche Lorraine and that is where it came from...

At 2:12 PM , Blogger Dread Val said...

Oh… Twitter. Yes, join me on Twitter! Dan Guy is there, too. And spacedlaw, and ivenotime.

Re: the flyer -- You're very welcome. Hopefully the Jungle Loves find a good home.

On being busy -- I just made a list of every pressing thing I need to get done in the next three weeks, and am seriously thinking about taking to my bed with the vapors. I will never, ever combine moving house, Comic-con, and this many deadlines again. I'm grateful for the new place to live and the projects I am working on, and I am excited about them -- I just wish they had not all landed at once.

Oh, and -- Lorraine, here's the secret In 'n' Out menu, in full. Now I will think of you, every time I go.

I hope everyone is checking out Act One of the musical based on my exploits, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, released today!

At 5:53 PM , Blogger AletaMay said...

Oh Dan thank you so so much for reminding me to watch Dr. Horrible today! I am so excited to know that it is based on your exploits! To think I have met the real Dr. Horrible!

Anyway I watched. I laughed. I cried. (Okay that last sentence is not true) Who would have guessed how great Neil (no, not that Neil -- Neil Patrick Harris) and Nathan are together. (That sounds slashy. Didn't mean it that way.) (Okay, maybe I did)

Which reminds me I strongly recommend that people read The Master Plan found on the main Dr. Horrible page because... well because it is Joss and it is very funny and it made me smile.

At 6:40 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Oh yes, very funny! I should have known it was based on Dan Guy....

Yes, there IS too much to do, how did this happen????? I can kind of remember times when I had lots of time...A long time ago.

At 4:40 AM , Blogger Dan Guy said...

It's got the evil laugh and the goggles and the freeze ray and the girl -- so clearly me. Though my matter transducer worked far better in reality. Still, they must make these compromises in order to get stories onto the little screen, I suppose.

At 9:15 AM , Blogger Phiala said...

Oh, thanks for the reminder! The Dr Horrible server was down when I tried yesterday, but I've got it now. Haven't time to watch yet, but I will! I look forward to seeing even the diluted version of Dan's adventures.
