The Night The Lights Went Out For Kimbo!

Last night was a bundle of Adventures! They started with picking up the Mighty Kimbo, who I haven't seen in a year since our vid shoot, (two of the best weeks EVER) from the airport, and nipping off to the gig at Charlie's.

it was 92, and felt like we might well be getting some Storms, which I was all for. I mentioned to Kimbo that I had set things up so she would really get to experience the whole Mid-western STORM thing (she s a tried and true New Yorker) She asked would there be lightning and thunder, yes, I said, and she asked will there be Swirling Clouds and Tornadoes????? But of course, I say, all for YOU!!!!!!!!! And get this, I am even having the power go out, and we will play for you by candle light!!!!!!!

We were, of course. Kidding. Truly.

The first set went great, tho I was feeling kind of ooky, with stomach cramps and a Bad Feeling, but still it was fun. Kimbo warmed my little heart by saying "I knew you would be good but I didn't know you were GOOD!" and I am thinking she had a good time. Took her about five minutes to get to know everyone in the place.

We took a break, and low and behold, there were Black clouds rolling in, aha, thinks I, there IS a storm coming. Then the Sirens went off. Then came the swirling clouds, and a quick look at the radar says, yup, sure as heck are Tornadoes about 5 miles to the North. The lighting was like Bad CGI, you would not have bought it in a movie.

Very exciting it all was, there at the pub. Then the power went. Am I good or what, I asked Kimbo, who was thrilled by the entire event. She must have called half her phone book, telling everyone HI GUY! I AM IN A TORNADO! (well, sort of, near one anyway, and darned exciting anyway)

We played lit candles all over the place, and played a second set, off the stage, acoustically, with a nice crowd all loving it. Then the Pub hearing that 26, 000 people were without power and not likely to be getting it back any time soon, decided to close, and we went home early.

I spent the entire night dealing with some nasty food poisoning, or an equally nasty virus, which was not good AT ALL (details omitted, trust me )but feel fine today, except kind of weak. We took Kimbo to the bees, which she loved, warily, and now I am for a nap before recording tonight.

Which, one hopes, will rock.

Love and Storms, Lorraine

Get well! Drink a lot (rehydrating stuff if you have it).
Hugs.

So you were not banned to the cellar under the threat of a tornado? How disappointing!
:)

I am feeling a LOT better, thanks, Boss and Kimbo took really good care of me and made me drink water, with Sugar and Salt , which is apparently the best thing ever for this particular problem.

Must have been because it worked.

You did indeed miss the fun, Altea! But your family sure as heck didn't, your brother, his wife and their son were all there, they left as Adventure Storm started.

Sunday will be nice too, and musically, most likely the best. Sick last night, worn out tonight, but tomorrow, one hopes...

Salt and sugar indeed.
Broth is also good if without fat.

I hope your outside gig will not turn out to be a stormy one as well:
There is a limit to what you should do to keep your guests entertained.
Even for you!

How lousy to get sick so shortly before the gig. Feel better for the performance and please don't pass out in front of the crowd; I would hate to hear about that.

Good luck!

Glad you're feeling better! It's the first time I've heard of drinking water with sugar and salt for food poisoning, but it makes a lot of sense. It can't taste any worse than Gatorade.

Have fun tonight and tomorrow!

hope you're now feeling much better, and that the next gig goes well & un-stormed-upon.

Sorry to hear that "Sugar". LOL
Pick some mint and have Kimbo make some tea. Btw, a Director friend of Kitty's saw the video and LOVED it. So tell Kim her work is celebrated in Hollywood! (and he wants a CD)

Thanks guys!

The water with one t salt to 8 t sugar, (liter of water) is not specific FOR food poisoning, but a, er symptom, you can add the juice of an orange to it too, and trust me, no matter how much you think you are going to kill the person making you drink it, it is ends up tasting SO good.

It is used a lot in developing countries where kids die from it.

I am just glad it help OFF until we got out of there! If we hadn't left early, had to stop on the way home, a couple times and poor Kimbo got to learn how to drive the Prius!!!!!

I did do mint tea, another great thing, that.

We have been talking about the vid, and have been wishing Kimbo could stay a week and do the Bengal one. THOSE actors don't so much take directions!

She got some great dog shots today to, and the ones from last night, remember, of us all sweaty and tired , were taken in the DARK! No light but candles. The women is amazing!

I am so glad you are feeling better and that you had someone to care for you and get you rehydrated! So important!

I am planning to come out to the biker bar tomorrow. Not sure who (if anyone) will be joining me.

I am so glad my family people came out to see you last night! You know, they used to do that seven drunken nights song themselves. I saw them do it on a stage once... not sure they'd like me telling anyone that... oh well.

Ewwww - food poisoning! I was there last week. Not pretty at *all*. I had no one to give me helpful hints of the sugar / salt mix but wonder if that's why I want 7up (sugary) and saltines (salty) when I'm sick like that? Normally I don't like pop because it's too sweet.

Glad you're feeling better!

We had Big Storms here too, but no out of town guests to be impressed by them. There is just one panicky dog (Robin) who is stresspuppy despite all my attempts to get him to calm down.

Let it never be said that I did not fully lend my support to Adventures, be they single, bundled, or by the bushel.

I'm very sorry about accidently siphoning all of the town's power into my death ray.

Some of that verbena tea I brought you would also be good, come to think of it (if you still have some).

Whew. Glad you're feeling better. I've never heard of that particular remedy before. I'm gonna file that one away for future use..it's gotta taste better than Gatorade (bleah!).

Can't wait to see Kim's other pix..the 2 you posted are so cute.

I so knew it was you and your Death Ray, Dan guy! But Kimbo loved it!

Your tea, Spacelaw WAS used this morning. Could use more..La de da....We don't have that here as far as I know.

Boss read the comments and says to tell you that Gatorade has too much sugar and no salt, and the combination is what works. Did for me.

Aleta, looking forward to seeing you. Ack. I have to leave for this gig in 10 hours.

Tonight was beyond wonderful. I can't believe how many people came down. And everyone there was OUR people, or were by the end of the night. I felt like my timing and comedy was off, but the music ROCKED. All the way, we so have things for the cd.

Anyone who was at the show tonight, I have to say YOU are what makes it magic. We can't do this without you being there.

The most fun was a soon to be bride who brought friends only to find out her fiance was having his pre wedding party part at the same club. Both because we were playing.

Another fine moment was when a guy came up from this party and said " I saw so so fine photos of you.." And I said, ah you went to Lorraine a Malena.." and he said, oh yes I did, I am so there...

This makes me so happy. And it's all on disk.

Sleep now, as Spacelaw will no doubt tell me...

I will have to try that recipe as I have still been feeling lousy and nothing else seems to work. does make you extremely tired. glad to hear you had some rain, tho a bit violently perhaps - we escaped the projected storms for the wedding on saturday - it was a perfect day for an outdoor ceremony, and the bride and groom could not have asked for a more beautiful day. It was hands down the most elegant affair I have ever attended, and just a darn fun party to boot - it even had a blip in the New York Times:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/13/fashion/weddings/13finch.html?ref=weddings

(dan how do you insert a hyperlink?) Hope you are feeling better Lorraine - have fun tonight!

A couple days ago Dan, no big deal, Malena doesn't have time to post here, so we are doing two now, separate, pretty much same as it has been.

AH Kitty, we so feel for you, sweet dear! Everyone really needs to send Kitty some true love this next six weeks, life on the road is brutal and hard, and she is out there with the Jonas Brothers, who may be sweet, but , can't be anyones idea of a great night out for 42 days...

I think we should try and shout out to her here, for the duration of this tour, as she certainly doesn't have time to blog.

Speaking of Brutal, I don't really mind being UP right now, but it seems a tad unfair to be dashing off to another gig. Especially one where Kitty is not tour managing, and Malena is not singing.

(Tho I do have Paul, and am happy about that, and it is outdoors at a really cool place. Still feels darn early tho...)

Okay. Let me give it a try.

Dance studio where I teach belly dance, though I'm not listed as an instructor. It's probably because I'm teaching adults and not kids. :)

Well, that didn't quite work. Let me try again, dance studio.

I got it to work. Now I just need to write it down so I'll have it handy the next time I need it.

Hmmph. I needs some hands on hyper help, don't get this at all!

Th gig this afternoon was delightful, as it turned out, I had so much fun just sitting outside and playing, sometimes those are just the best.

Nice to see you Aleta and Mary!

We learned a new song, Van Morrison's Brown Eyed Girl. Some people wanted to hear it, and Paul happened to have a copy, so we gave it a shot, and now have a new song. Very fun.

I am one beat girl....but happy

It was the perfect day for outdoor music in Marine on St. Croix -- where the name of the town is bigger than the town itself!

Not only were Paul and Lorraine great but many little childrens in attendance provided great entertainment as well.

I am glad my link making advice helped some. ariandalen -- I think maybe you need the word studio before the dot com in your url.

Lorraine... I'll think about another way to say this. Like so many things in life once you get it it's easy. Before you get it it's impossible!

At 9:29 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Excellent and many thanks! I so want to hyperlink in comments!

It was such a fun day, I was so very tired this morning, and not up for another show, but once we started playing, I sort of melted into a place where everything was good.

There is something so very magic about music. And friends there and making people happy. Everything sort of fades away and each time I play, I remember what is truly important.

Aww, thank the Boss for me.:)

Of course music is magic.
I bet it helped for your health too.

At 7:25 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

You know, it truly does. I am really excited about this new cd, we got some really great things things weekend.

I think it might well end up being very different than we thought. We were not expecting much and thought, well it might be a cd for people who come to see us, kind of standard Irish, but the tracks I've listened to, are a cut above what I had thought.

Now to sift thru 9 hours of music and pick out an hour.....

At 7:57 AM , Blogger Dread Val said...

Glad to hear you're feeling better and soldiered on through food poisoning and gigs! What is the magic ratio of sugar : salt?

Did you manage to get any rest?

And, re: href tags to make URLs show up correctly -- I'll do my best to help. :) What do you use to post to the blog? Do you use Blogger's web interface, or an offline client?

At 10:31 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Gads! You speak a language I do not know...I really don't know what an offline client is, so I would guess not.

To make the Boss's magic thing for , uh, you know, can't spell it to save my life, and noone needs to see that word anyway, but here it is:

1 teaspoon salt
8 teaspoon sugar
juice of one orange
i liter of water

Trust me. It works.

Not sure I am completely rested, went home and collapsed last night.

At 10:53 AM , Blogger gaypet said...

It sounds like all of the gigs went well and I hope you get some rest. I really wanted to be there Sunday. Not feeling well myself. Sorry to miss the fun. Hope to be out and about again soon.

Ahh, Kitty, so sorry about the foot chewing! Good luck to you!

Dan, do you ever lend the death ray? Could use one at the moment.

At 11:26 AM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

I would have been tempted to invert the amounts of salt and sugar but that's just because the rehydration medecine I had to take after last desert trek was extremely salty (and yucky - I bet this is MUCH nicer)

At 11:41 AM , Blogger AletaMay said...

Here is a link to a YouTube video about how to make links. Maybe that will help!

At 12:28 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

A link to learn how to link. But of course. Hee-hee. This strikes me as funny.

We missed you Gayle! It was such a lovely day out there. I took Paul's daughter up on stage and gave her a mic when I noticed her singing along with Mary Mac. Cute Police are WAY after us.

This IS a great drink, worked like a charm, it did. I will tell Boss that you are all for it, let me know if anyone needs it and tries it. (not that am hoping anyone has too, ugh...)

I'll double check with him about the portions, but it wasn't horridly salty, just enough to taste really good.

At 12:44 PM , Blogger AletaMay said...

A link to a video about making a link is funny. It is also funny when I do PowerPoint presentations about how to use PowerPoint.

Hee.

Will you take Bengals???

At 9:55 PM , Blogger ariandalen said...

Thanks, Aleta. My original mistake was typing "http//:etc." instead of "http://etc." which resulted in Blogger sending me an error message. So I took "http..." out. Now I see that "studio" does need to be added, though I had just used the URL I typed without any problems the previous day. ::SIGH:: I guess it's a good thing I my husband is a computer person.

So, here's my FOURTH try. Dance Studio
Blogger really doesn't like me. I usually have to retype my password when posting a comment. And, yes, I do type it correctly the first time.
