From one of our LaMies, Dusti
I got a request the other day for help. Here's what Dusti wrote:
I have gotten involved with a fundraising project called Hooters for Haunters. In a nutshell, this is for a truly wonderful woman named Nancy - http://www.myspace.com/elmyra_hearsechic - who was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in December. She has no insurance and had to have a full masectomy.*ouch*She's going through chemo and she's really not doing well financially.
So we're doing a full weekend of events at Midwest Haunters Convention (http://www.midwesthauntersconvention.com/) next weekend, and half of the proceeds will go to her - the other half will go to another haunter with breast cancer. Now, ANOTHER dear friend of mine has put together something really wonderful - a jewelry collection, with all proceeds going directly to Nancy!

The nifty thing about Julie's jewelry is that it includes beads made from a combination of clay and flowers! They're quite beautiful. I'm trying to promote the heck out of her line of jewelry. If you'd be willing to share this info with your LAMites, that would be fabulous!

The first link does not work, dear.
It hould be haunters for hooters...
Fun idea to treat such terrible cases.
Right. Hooters for Haunters is a TOTALLY different project! I hear it's an off-shoot of the Open Source Boob Project. *ducks*
(Has it been long enough to joke about how catastrophically ill-thought-out the OSBP was?)

(Let me try that again!)
Thank you so much, Malena!!!
(I take responsibility for going all dyslexic on the event name - it's been a very long month already! Thank you for the correction and the link, Spacedlaw! *hug*)
Dan Guy...
Oh, the OSBP...ya know, I truly do NOT think the original concept was negative or harmful. It's something that happened once, it was apparently very positive at the time, and it should have been left as a magical positive little moment.
But - no, I am one of many that would not relish having folks ask me for touching privileges. :/
If there is now humour connected to the OSBP, I think that's all for the best. :)
laughter is the best medicine, my dears!
that and love.
keep us informed, please-- and best wishes to a speedy recovery..
i just went through the 42 (FORTY TWO!!!)
comments on the last L'aM blog post. yeow! go on!
Quiche, you crack me up.
i spent from before sunrise to almost moonset at the Staples Center working the Kanye West/Rhianna show, saw lots of old road buddies, it was Kanye's b-day, and all hell broke loose.
also heard that the Madonna tour has 80 trucks going out (EIGHTY!!) geez. is that environmentally sound??
me thinks not so much.
and on a karaoke note, Drew brought down the house with a Billy Joel number that was exactly in his register....excellent! Malena, we missed yoU!
Ok, kids, as for my view on nude blogging, my rule in hotel rooms while on the road, as soon as the door shuts, no clothes allowed, until room service arrives, in which case, towel or robe must do.
but at home, life in the treehouse doesn't allow such freedom...only at night...ssshhhhhh
I agree with you, Cat, that laughter is truly a medicine superior to all others.
This sounds like a great project. Good luck!

Hooters for Haunters would actually work quite well, I think. A couple of years ago, I got my kit off for charity; raised $20K for a friend with cancer. So hey, you never know… still, I wouldn't be part of the OSBP; I fend off enough groping as it is.
What the heck does anyone need with 80 trucks?! Even on tour, damn!
Madonna should do what Melissa is doing on the road, all the trucks run on that fuel made from used Fast Food Oil.
Laughter is truly the best medicine.
I am making another crumble. This one is rhubarb, mango and cherries. So continues my quest to make the perfect crumble.....
I'm sorry, but did you just write "mango" AND "cherries" hooked up with the word "crumble"?? I'm in a gluttonous stupor just contemplating, yuummm . . . And I so admire those who are helping friends in medical and financial need. Laughter is good, yes, but love? Love is the best, I think. Sounds like there's lots of that there. (My dearest aunt is a breast cancer survivor -- now over 15+ years!)
Yes, I made a Mango-rhubarb-cherry crumble and it was my best one EVER!
Mim has a Mousie, not a real one, but she sounds like thunder coming in the way she is growling over it. Freaky.
