Foster Kitties!

Ideally, this post would start with some pictures of my new Friends, but alas, I still don't have a charger for the camera, so we'll have to wait.

Even if I had a camera, I don't think I could get a shot. These poor Kitties! For those of you who missed this, today I went Up North to pick up two Bengals whose owners surrendered them to the Great Lakes Bengal Rescue Association. The GLBR exists to help find homes for Bengals whose owners did not do their homework before bringing them home.

These people were even odder in that they run a small Motel/Cafe in a Fishing/Cabin type area. And they live in one of the motel rooms. I can't imagine living in a small Motel room and thinking, " Well, you know what this place needs? TWO Bengal Cats. Yup, liven it right up"

They are completely terrified of people. Really really lovely cats, but SO scared. They are hiding now in their part of the House, ( About three times the size of their last home ) And I have set out food and water. We will have to see...The Lady who gave them up was very nice, and felt so badly about this.

Hopefully, I will have more success making friends with them that I did getting Cabal and Zoe to be friends. (An experiment that has been stopped. Someone is going to get hurt, either man or beast, and I believe there is no change it will suceed, sadly. I tried.)

So, now we need homes for them. If you know anyone who would be interested in adopting one of these wonderful cats, let me know. I'll keep you posted on how they are doing, but I have never seen lovelier cats. One is a black and tan spotted, and the other black and tan marbled.

Sadly, their names were Pasta and Cookie. I'll call them something else when I get to know them.

A bit of Jungle Love just looking for the right home.

Love and Kitties,
Lorraine

I wish I knew anyone in your area who could take them. :( Two Bengals in a small room does sound like a disaster in kit form, doesn't it?

I think two bengals in a motel room would be a barrel of laughs it would be like having a troop of monkeys in there except these guys have claws.:)

Jungle Loves 1 and 2 are still hiding.

I think I made a mistake putting them upstaires, and I will move them to the one room down tomorrow, I need to be able to find them, and lure them out, so we can be friends.

Poor girls.

Claws and fangs. Really pretty claws and fangs tho...

That is so sad - I hope you can lure them out, poor little things with claws and fangs, all sharp. It is a real shame when people don't realize what they are getting into before committing to a pet. A motel room is unusual, but where did they keep the kitties since they are so afraid of people? You would think they would have had lots of contact. At least the owners did the right thing and not just dump them on a country road (which happens here ALL the time) Good Luck!

::sigh:: Poor babies! It may take quite a bit of time to get the re-accustomed to humans. Fortunately for them, they are in patient, loving care.

Even if Venus and triple M turn into jealous beasties.

I will help offering love & asking around who would love a bengal. "WHEW" on the idea of cabal & zoe going out the window! Poor Zoe, with her totally affectionate oblivian to what the white wonder was "Really" thinking!
Very glad we don't have to watch him quiver with restraint totally against his will, only under your command could he sit and watch, "The cat".
If you could do that with white wonder, you will have these kitties eating out of your hand in no time,... Brave woman you are!!

Yes, I am glad the Cabal and Zoe is not happeneing any more too! It was too hard.

I had to put Jungle Love 1 and 2 down in their cage on the floor when I came in, heavy cats, and Venus and Mim came up and all four went "What the Hell are THOSE!" no one even hissed, the were all so suprised....

I will make them friends. With me anyway.

Aww, poor hiding cats. I wonder how they would like my Dog... hrm. Dog loves cats, but cats don't always feel the same about her.

Probably for the best that the Cabal/Zoe friendship experiment is on hold. That's a huge amount of work to make happen in a short period of time.

Funny to think that an animal possibly that wild can be so scared.
But the change of environment would do it, I suppose. I am sure they will adapt and make friends with Venus and Mim (if only to gang up on you when they think you are being slack with food).

I can see images of Cabal looking at Zoe, a big thought bubble coming out of his head with a roasted kitty in it. Maybe it is best to let the experiment rest for the time being. You did manage a lot already.

"Pasta" and "Cookie"?!? What made these people think that Bengals were what they needed?

At 8:30 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I don't know. Naming Bengals Pasta and Cookie and bringing them to live in a small hotel room does not seem like people who know what they are doing.

They cried in the night, and every time they did, I would calll out to them and tell them it was ok. I would wake up and one of them would be sitting on the floor LOOKING at me.

I got up tho at 6 and fed them, and the one, at least, is eating. Hard to tell if they have both been out, they look alike and it was dark most of the night.

As it is generally.

Man I'm tired.

Should I move them to the one room downstaires? Or keep them up? The smaller room might give them time to get used to me easier...I don't know. Upstaires they have the bathroom and two bedrooms. Lots of hiding places...

I think hiding places may be what they need... and it probably helps them to trust you to be near you when you sleep (not that their cries make your sleep any easier).

Hiding places may make them feel more secure... so they feel more in control.. it may not make them more friendly at first but I would think it would put them more at ease in general. Whenever I have been around skittish or scared cats they always seem better after they have seen you sleep and gotten the chance to creep up on you asleep... and as long as they have a semi-secure hidey-hole nearby. To get them to trust you I would let them have their freedom upstairs and try to play with them.

Must be hard on your other kitties though.. I bet they miss you at night (but I bet you don't miss them too much in the mornings).

Venus and Mim got banned from the bedroom after the last Pee On Me incident, they would lie in the hallway, or on the bathroom chair. They weren't snugglers really anyway.

They do race upstairs every time I come down, and I am pretty sure we aren't ready for intros. I am going to use Feliway, sort of a Happy Cat hormone spray, to keep everyone calm....

I dunno; I'd maybe leave them where they're at for the moment, instead of moving them again so soon. Let them get acclimatized and all that.

That was my thought, the less trauma the better.

I liked the idea of using human names on animals until I realized that any name -- even the loveliest -- will stay with people and make them think of a dog or cat. I know that I would love Sydney if it didn't remind me so much of my third grade teacher's tabby.

I actually kind of like Pasta and Cookie but can feel the excessive silliness. What are your alternatives?

Although I might like those names only because I have never seen Bengals and know nothing about them; I imagine I'm really wrong here.

Erm. Just did a Google Image search. Yes. I think I changed my mind about the names.

I know a "Rose with any other name" and all, but Pasta and Cookie are just not right.

They haven't told me what their names are. I thought about Kipling and perhaps Baloo (one is kind of round) and Bagherra ( she slinks like a panther ) but they don't seem right either.

I don't really know them. I will say again tho, they are RELLY lovely. Kind of like Malena lovely. In a raelly magic sort of way. Kind of like her, not truly a part of this world...

Actually kitties need space to hide in and feel comfortable in but those kitties has their all universe in a motel room and therefore most likely always in contact with a human (that is probably why they are calling you).
I feel for your sleep deprivation but it is probably best to let them stay with you for the time being. They will grow independent at some later time.
Greetings from Namur (Belgian) everyone (cute city by the way).

I just found the best cat tree website. The prices are beyond good, free shipping AND they donate a portion of the sale to the Rescue accoc. of your choice!

If you are in the market, check them out. I just got the Jungle Kitties one. The couch will have to go. I never liked it anyway, the dealer was such a dork.

It can finance all these darn cat things and do some good in the world and whomever buys it from ME, will like me and have no bad memories.

Spacedlaw, how's Belgium?

Dude. Those are some elaborate cat-trees! Hmm, what to name the little fey beasts? I'm kinda getting a Celtic feel, myself, for what that's worth.

Pantagruel:
Belgium was great (and a beautiful weather too).
I just posted some pictures on LJ, in case you are interested (I took some of a frieze that art students had made and these might appeal to you).
