My Day of Birds
I don't know where you live, but as it is Spring, finally, here, I imagine that it is also Spring where you live. I hope you day was as fine as ours turned out. Tho I have to say, it started at 40 degrees, and cloudy with a fog as thick as pea soup. (it was pointed out to me, however, that "Thick as Pea Soup" referred to the olden days in London, when the fog would mix with the coal, and be yellow, in short SMOG, and that this was just a grey fog)
Malena says she has new NEVERWHERE photos to post soon, and will do so shortly, but for now, here is me with my little Red Bellied Friend:
I got to help the Birdchick and her Merry Band of Birders today. Mostly, the biggest help I provided was nipping up to the Coffee Place and bringing back a large Box of Coffee, midway thru the chilly morning. A popular move that.
They know that my favourite Bird is the Red Bellied Woodpecker, which has a red HEAD but no red BELLY, not sure why, those wacky Birders....In the picture you can see just how fond this one is of me holding it pre-release after banding. The release did not take long, trust me, those beaks are SHARP.
I have so much fun being with the Band of Birders, I know next to nothing about Birding (tho the Birdchick is constantly teaching me these skills) and it is a lot of fun to be with people who are at the top of their game in a field I like, and know not much of. I learn so much, and am always glad when they come.
(no, I am not sure what they are doing or WHY they are banding, but the Birdchick will)
You can nip over to the Birdchick's blog for the full and complete story I am sure. We also did some cool Bee Things, as it is now Time for Bees again. We are doing three new hives this year, and I will be sure and take pics for that. Nothing like being Covered in Bees for a truly memorable day!
What else? Hans, our Sherpa Guide, shingled my little House, and if I ever find my charger, I will take pics, next, Laura is going to paint me a fairy mural on it. I want to do so much in the garden this year.....How does one find TIME for everything, I ask you??????
Still no word from the Nice Lady on my essays, hee-hee, guess they lacked Literary Merit! Won't stop me from writing them tho.....
Love and Birds,
Lorraine

what is Box of Coffee? a REAL box of coffee? yeowww!
QUicHe, must come back soon, so i can talk the Queen of Kitty hive into a deal. No swarming since it hurts my feelings--- i too want to be covered in bees. Have been eating the hive honey, it is divine, Devs.
As for the dogs, ahA! they eat rice and chicken breasts...so cute, cocker spaniels...and Ted Nugent turned up at the show, that's right, the Nuge. Elton made me cry with Candle in the WInd...sappy kitty.
xoxo Malena's photos up soon.
That album was his BEST, Goodby Yelllow Brick Road, my first favourite record it was.....Funral for a friend....Ah yes!!!! And This song had no title..One of my desert island disks truly...
Yes, one can now buy a box of coffeee. Who knew???
Your hive will thive, promise you! How can it not????
Oh, and good to know what Sir E's dogs eat, we did wonder...Ted Nugent, very cool, tho he is a little NRA weird...Still he rocks.
We miss you, come home soon!
Cool picture, Ms. Fabulous! We have Red Bellied Woodpeckers in my area, too. I've seen them in my yard. :)
If you're adding three new hives this year, does this mean there will be five hives total? Or just four? Paint me confused. Did you get all of the slumgum (?) out of the wax, and start making beeswax candles? Inquiring minds want to know.
Chicken and rice for Sir EJ's cocker spaniels. That makes sense. And The Nuge took time off writing his column for the local paper to see Sir Elton. I guess I'll have to see if he writes about it in the next couple of weeks. It's not something I usually read, but you never know.
And I finally remembered which SSRI I was on; Zoloft.
Alright. In a desperate attempt at looking cool I shall not ask who Ted Nugent is. I'll quietly wiki the name instead...
I quite liked your little fairy house as it is now but I am sure the fairies will love a place to dance on, and tempt the deers into your garden (which they seem to like already). Don't forget to add a smattering of skeleton flamingos for that truly Gothic look.
Take heart on the essays, sometimes answers (even positive) are long coming (those editors, they get TONS of stuff to read).
In the meantime, keep writing.
Yay for spring and Bee Things.:)
Somehow it doesn't surprise me that Sir Elton has cocker spaniels.;)
I think Spacedlaw is probably right and that the Nice Lady is probably working her way through the pile to you.
Nice Lady might be getting Nice Boot in Butt.
and darling S-law, your package is on the way, sadly, i didn't put a copy of Cat Scratch Fever in it, but perhaps i SHOULD HAVE--the Nuge is an American staple in our suburbs...we will learn you, girl.
Quiche, we should go to an Elton show in Vegas.
before he steps off the mortal coil...
although he was eating healthy i did bring him cookies--yummmmyummmm
Not to worry, Kitty, I shall seek samples of The Nudge's work on Last.fm
And thanks for the parcel. We will now see which is the fastest, yours or Malena's (which seems to be cursed by postal imps).
Three new hives for a total of four, then? Your bee-following public wants to know! ^_^
We're back to spring in LA, after last weekend's sudden burst of 98°; where Summer said, 'What do you mean, I'm early? Oh, alright, I'll go back and try again later.'
Boxes of Coffee rock. Anytime you just happen to have a spare Box of Coffee, it could come live at my office. Just sayin'.
The red-headed/bellied woodpecker is cute, but looks lethal.
Hair Police is in LA right now, so I went to go see the Incredible Erin, and I have six new Stealth Dreads™, to replace my old three, which had grown out. (pictures soon) That woman does awesome things with my very stubborn hair. We agreed that you are indeed awesome and fabulous, and I wondered why everyone in Minnesota seems so nice -- I thought maybe it was the water? But Erin claims it's the lutefisk. Or hotdish. If it's lutefisk or hotdish, I'm afraid I will never become nice, because OMG dude, ick!
I just sent this to Eddie Campbell, so why not to you?
The kitty screen cleaner (it takes forever to load). The dear man has posted a doggie version of it...
Spacelaw, you might have needed to be a very young suburban rocker to Truly appreciate Ted Nugent...
Kitty, you are on, I have never been to Vegas! You , me and Elton!
We will have a total of four hives this year, in two different spots. I did get the wax out of the Slumglum, but it is just sitting there waiting for me to do something with it. I did make a bat for Malena and a star for Kitty, but it's just wax, not a candle or anything.
This next year I will do more, we only had the on dead hive to work with this year.
Hair Police rocks. It's cool that they go out to LA. I dont' know Erin, but I do know Wendy...
Checked the guy out on Last.fm...
I actually know some of those songs, I just wasn't familiar with the name (which is often the case for me).
Lorraine you look so cute with the birdie in your hand!
And how come noone has mentioned how cool I am with this bird un hand?????
It is nice to see such a great smile on your face, Lorraine. It must be nice to have a bird in hand... as it were.
We are all intimidated by how cool you are holding that bird, clearly. So cute! (And the Red Bellied Woodpecker is alright too.)
You look cool holding the bird, yes; I think it was the lethal-ness of the bird that I focused on more.
Four hives? How much honey will you end up with from four hives?
I didn't meet Wendy, though she was right next to me. I met her dog, Gary, though. Wendy didn't seem to dig her customer too much; the girl just sat there like a lump, and Wendy was quiet and stern while she put in extensions. I dig Erin, though; I'm not usually chatty with strangers (hard to believe from my blog commenting, I know), but she and I talk up a storm.
::ahem:: You not only look cool holding the bird, you look Fabulous!
Also, have you lost weight?
I'm serious about you looking slimmer. I realized it might have seemed insincere, however the first thing I thought when I saw the picture was that you had lost weight.
I'm really sorry if it sounded otherwise.
Thanks! It was a lethal bird, truly...
Thansk for the thinner comment too, I have been feeling SO fat and lumpy after this winter, ack!!! And I have been trying to get in more walks, and eat better.
It's so hard here in the winter, I get home and I am SO tired, and dont' want to cook, and it's dark and cold and all I want to do is lie by the fire...
Now that it is spring tho, it's better, I can ride my bike to work, and be outside...
Probably that dreadful cold you had did eat some pounds off you...
Today I am in Paris for work and since I had to purchase some seeds for a friend in Estonia, I inquired as to whether seeds for verbena could be found (in which case I would have got you some and sent them along). Turned out that the answer is no, the plant is usually bought partially grown from a nursery. So I shan't be able to send you some, but maybe a good plant nursery near you can get it for you. Mind that you keep it in house as cold kills it...
