The Day After The B'day Week

I had thought I might be feeling Hum-Drum today, (I knew I would be a Brain Dead Zombie!) after all the excitment, and friends and Gigs (playing with Lojo, Dylan, Adam and Johhny was the best B'day gift EVER. I thank you all, truly.) and Birthday and Valentine's Day (second only to Halloween as my favourite holiday, I love sending out lovely things, Malena and I always do up a Box for eachother, I think she was happy this year as mine to her contained truffles and a spider bracelet I got on Ebay which turned out to be real silver Tiffany!! I wondered why she was so excited and kept saying DIV!!! I'LL KILL YOU, YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE!!!!!)

But today has been lovely fun. My Camera showed up and MIGHT be working. (Great timing, Casio) I took Dog for a walk to the voting place and voted. (Turns out he can't vote, but we were pretty popular for the time we were there.) I got a nice card from my Dad, all fantasy art-ish, a relm into which he has not ventured before. I had a fine time transcribing for my Boss, and have been happily putting away all the Things I managed to aquire with Spacelaw yesterday at the MAUL of America. (she was much more restrained, I say because of luggage space, I had no such concerns)

Of course, it's WAY beyond cold out. Here is a picture of what my Freaky Pets would look like if they had sweaters on and were as Freaky as Hera's pets...

I have also been practising my new French Skills. Yes, I am practially fluent after a long weekend with Spacelaw. She also has computer skills and taught me Things most people no doubt know, but that I have been in the dark on. She also has picture taking skills (as does Rubius, the gigs felt like I had paparazzi at times, I loved it!!!!) and now I have a LOT of pictures. Here's some cute.....

Wait. Hmm...Not Cute. That's some sort of Freaky Creature from the Underworld. (and I am not talking New Zealand here)

Trying again....

Hmmm again. That seems to be yet another Freaky Demon biting the heaad off an even Freakier one....Where the heck is CUTE??? (Malena, this is your doing. The things that women can do with her mind.)

Ah..There we are. Cute. The Cute Police are going to get me, no doubt.(as opposed to the Park on the Right Side of the Street Police, and the Snow Shoveling Police, who are WAY out to get me. Remember, it's not paranoia if they really ARE out to get you..) If you look closely, you can see that the ribbon is a Channel Ribbon, brought from Italy for the Kitties. I got Armani Chocolates!!!! (be jealous Malena, very jealous...)

Now I am haveing some Kitty time, and some Fire Time, and we all three may be asleep for a nap soon. A rare occurance. Very rare indeed. Hope your day is as fine.

Love and Cute, Lorraine

That shopping mall was awesome (loved that first cooking shop and the gadget place).
Bu what was really great was Dreamhaven and the sudden realisation that I could not possibly read all the nice books that are around and that I should really should try and become a vampire. Nothing short of eternity could ever satemy craving for stories.

You were naughty. But naughty is good. As long as it is not too often.

At 3:15 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Malena can help you with that Vampire thing....( tho that is not really general knowlage...)

And mostly I am good. I don't get to go out and SHOP often. Mostly when I am out in LA and under the dark Malena influance....

Ooo double envy, spacedlaw, you went to Dreamhaven? that's so cool, books.....many many books....love books......and Lorraine you deserve a bit of birthday naughtiness, its so good for the soul.

hehehehe... sounds fun!! I had such a great time and it actually was nice that I DIDN'T go shopping (particularly nice on my wallet). I really have so much stuff in my place...and so many books ... not quite as many as I saw on my trip, mind you... but...hehehehe I guess with the ALL NEW bookshelves (1 giant tall one and 2 small ones) and the sanded/painted/finished reclaimed cabinet... not to mention the entertainment table... hehehe... I probably have ROOM for new books!!!!

Sue, you were missed, but it was a true pleasure to see Jodi, Mimi, Adam and Paul again.

YEAH for the CAMERA showing up!!!! Does it work???

My baby kitty is so cuteeeee! Ahhhhhhh! She will be a mountain lion by
the time I get there.

Vampire? Whose a vamp...ire? Yes, I am awake at night, I keep our
hills safe by hiking for hours (armed) in the dark, I don't need a
flashlight, I have fantasies of being a trained assassin (only to get
the bad guys) and I eat lots of meat. But VAMPIRE...Lorraine Garland,
now you are going too far.
hee hee (she remarks innocently)

Brjann has a parka..LOL

Sounds like you had a good trip to the Maul (I like that spelling, 'cause I always feel mauled after going to one;)
And Dreamhaven..That's where I'd end up spending WAY too much cash.
Spacedlaw I think the vampire idea is a good one..more reading time!:)

Looks like the Bengals are doing such a good job of occupying each other that they actually wore each other out (but I'm sure the ribbon helped.;)

Dreamhaven is the best. End of story. I love that place!

Heres the weather for today here, bet none of you are missing it now....

Sunny. Highs around zero. Northwest winds 5 to 15 mph. Lowest wind chill readings 27 below to 37 below zero in the morning.

At 8:55 AM , Blogger ivenotime said...

gah, and i thought my -10 windchill reading was bad! Your area does beat West Michigan for cold tho - it's brutal there. Cuz of the lake we stay a bit warmer but pay for it with snow (3 inches last night and I am NOT shoveling it. bah)Hey Lorr, didn't you say you just wear a polarfleece or hoodie? You do wear a heavy winter jacket dontcha? brrrrrrr stay warm!!

At 9:33 AM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

That technical pointer is a little of a joke... I am a rather technically challenged gal. But of course, hanging around engineers instead of writers does make you pick up a few things (such as : how clueless can a rocket engineer be about mostly everything).
I wish I had taken pictures outside and inside Dreamhaven. But it would never have captured the book smell of the place, which was such a wonderful thing. Now my "to read" shelves are groaning under the weight of the Minnesotan booty. Bliss!

At 9:35 AM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

15 degrees celsius here this lunch time...
Don't hate me. This is none of my doing.

At 10:15 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

I wear a floor length, huge ( think Narnia Wardrobe here ) mink coat. Kid you not.

And for anyone who feels the need to rant about wearing fur.....

"It's was a gift, it's old, they're dead, it's #@!$&!! cold!!"

I got lots of booty too at Dreamhaven, including something Spacelaw found for me, a " Crazy Old Cat Lady " action figure! Who knew???? Comes complete with way too many cats!

At 10:36 AM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

And I forgot to (seek and) show you "All over Coffee" by Paul Madonna...
I think I should have got that "My Little Chtulhu" doll, though. It would have looked great on my book shelves. Oh well. Next time.

At 11:56 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

HA! It's on it's way, one Little Chtulu to Italy. Just a little momento of yr visit......Called Dreamhaven a few minutes ago, and Elizabeth has promised to send some Dreamhaven Smell along with it....

Tho I have to say, failing to ever be able to read any Lovecraft has een a bitter disapointment in my life. My Boss says it is because I was never a 13 year old boy.....

At 12:22 PM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

Interesting to know that I must have been a 13 years old boy somewhere down the line... (mind you my father used to call me "petit mec" because I was something of a tom boy as a kid).

I am floored! Thanks for the doll! The cats are going to love it...

At 12:38 PM , Blogger ivenotime said...

Ha! Good for you wearing a floor length mink - bet its awesome and more importantly WARM. I never read any Lovecraft either, but you should read His Dark Materials - really enjoyable (i know i have said it before) Oh, someday someday I will get to Dreamhaven and breathe in book goodness....sigh....Spacedlaw, you sound chipper, six hour jetlag sounds brutal!! Glad you got back safe!

At 12:49 PM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

well, we'll see my being chipper tomorrow morning when I shall have to get up and go at the office. I cheated and bought some Red Bull this morning, which I might have to mix into the orange juice (shame for the orange juice, but there you go, that's travelling for you).

Your dogs look like leather wearing bikers. And what did they do to that kitty in the last photo? Did someone get the license of that Hog?

At 1:06 PM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

I still think that ths second picture looks like something Miles might have produced...

At 1:13 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Those are Hera's pets and she is the only one I know in this world who has Freaky-er pets than I do!

They DO look like something Miles might have made up. Twisted, weird, scary and freaky. All the best things!

I'll try the Dark Materials, I do kind of want to " get it "

At 1:40 PM , Blogger Rubius said...

You look lovely in your mink, if I do say so myself.... and I think you will like His Dark Materials.. but in my mind you gotta get to the third book to really 'get it'.

Love that second pic. It does look VERY unreal. Hera has the most wonderfully freaky pets.

At 1:56 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

The Third Book? Ack. Why can everyone but me get this? I am fairly smart and read a lot....

Am suffering from the same fear of Jane Austen, tho Martin Millar and Spacelaw are doing a lot to encourage me to read her....Any advice?

At 2:02 PM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

I can't say about the Golden Compass because I haven't read it but Jane Austen has never biten anybody (despite her mordant sense of humour).
Do try Pride and Prejudice or Sense and Sensibility. It is all nice and there is nothing to "get" in there.

ok, sorry if this comes up twice, but full lunar eclipse tonight!! Wonder what weird things will come of this.... Kinda scary....
next one predicted 2010 (Dec. I think)Hey Maybe those freaky little creatures came about from some strange phenomonon like eclipses, sorry having a "wierd science" moment. I love chocolate, think I will go eat some.

At 3:47 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Cool! I did not know this! No wonder today is strange, Malena is thru the roof today, I wondered what was up...( her kind are very connected to the moon..)

Just got the OK from Adam to shoot a You Tube vid of the Scottish Stairway to Heavan.....Trust me, you need to see this!

At 9:53 PM , Blogger Rubius said...

I watched the eclipse tonight. It was very neat. Looked kind of like a bloody moon. Very dark in a windy cloudy sky. My mom called to remind me and then I called my friend and left a message... 30 secs later she buzzed at my door.

Moon has me full under her spell.

At 8:53 AM , Blogger ariandalen said...

Blogger is not liking me, so I'll try this again.

I didn't get to watch the eclipse here due to clouds covering the sky. :(

Granted, last time I watched a lunar eclipse, one of my aspects gave me a clue by four. ::sigh::

;)

At 9:46 AM , Blogger Dan Guy said...

I ducked out into the cold periodically last night to check on the progress of the eclipse.

Xander and Molly were sneaking downstairs every ten minutes or so asking if it was time yet. Xander went to the school library and got out a book on satellites, hoping to be able to see the debris burning up in the atmosphere like tiny falling stars.

When the eclipse finally started, the kids were dutifully impressed and then ran back to the warmth of the house. I promised to wake them up once the moon turned red, which I did. Molly got as far as coming downstairs and putting her coat on, by which time Xander and I were outside checking it out. Molly never emerged and Xander fled quickly. When I went back in to tuck them both in, I found Molly curled up under her covers with her winter coat still on. Hopefully she wasn't wearing her boots under there.

At 11:05 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

MAN!!! I am so envious, we were cloudy and I didn't really get to see anything.....Hmmph!

Sounds like fun tho, Danguy, loved yr description of the kids!!!! They sound so cool....

At 2:17 PM , Blogger ivenotime said...

Dan, what a neat story, and I love the names of your children - I do miss the years when my kids were little. I got to see the lunar eclipse too - it was the first sunny day we have had in many many weeks. It started when I was driving home from class, so I got peeks periodically, then I went out in the yard for the end of it. Thats too bad, Lorraine and Arian, that it was cloudy in your areas. I made the mistake of announcing it to my class midway thru, and naturally they all immediately ran out to see. sigh. i have such control over my students. :)

Dont click on the above links - some sort of automatic anti-virus software. Another bluesky morning here, this is a record for february, can't believe how it elevates the mood - i actually feel like cleaning the house! And maybe clean out a closet! maybe spring is actually coming...

At 10:14 AM , Blogger Beez said...

Cleaning? Cleaning?!?

Sue, you're scaring me
....although I have an unreasonable urge to wash those French doors I have facing east. It would mean happier plants.

The cardinals are singing their little hearts out, so yeah, spring is nigh.

Last truffle? Oh noes! My birthday is this week....I'll be your Designated Truffle Eater m'kay?

At 10:45 AM , Blogger ivenotime said...

not to worry Mary! I did think about cleaning, but that was about as far as it got - I am babysitting a wild child year old springer spaniel and she is intent on destroying all and pulling my arms out of their sockets. mmmmm, hope you get truffles for your bday!yum...must....find....chocolate....

At 10:20 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

If we don't know them and it is just a link, don't click. I try and remove them as soon as I see them....

Tonight I am ALL about cleaning my poor house, which is slowly slipping into chaos again....And I will be charging my camera and taking some shots, FINALLY!!!!

And doing a new post, so we all have something new to look at.

I think will have truffles for dinner. No mess, and you can't get a LOT of calories in way quickly. Energy you know, for all that cleaning.

At 10:34 AM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

Let them eat truffles, she says...
(eat your heart out Marie Antoinette).

Yeah for pictures!
Meanwhile, over at LiveJournal, Miss Malena Mim is a hit (of course).
