Gone too far....

Ok, rant coming.....

I am watching the news, just home from work, and they ran a story on Rental Dogs. (oddly enough, the featured Rental Dog was named "Sandman") The idea is you pay $150 start up fee, and then $40 a day and you get to "have" the dog for the day, or take it walking, without the responsibility of owning full time. You can choose a different dog each time.

Someone, and I bet I'm not the only one who will say this, needs to say "Go down to your local Humane Society" They need Volenteers to, Hello, Take Dogs Out Walking. Play with dogs. (and cats) there is no charge for this. They need help. They are happy to let you take out a Dog whenever you want. Different dog every time.

To be fair to the Dog Rental place they interviewed, they did say most of the dogs came from the pound, and good on them for the rescue's, but let's cut out the middle man here. If you can afford that, give it to the shelter. Volenteering for these animals who have no one else is truly wonderful.

There rant done. Actually, I am seriously considering renting Madame Mim out. Or sending her back to the Hell which no doubt spawned her. GODS. I ordered her her first set of Softpaws yesterday, ( thanks to Hera for that tip! ) kitten size. Wicked little claws. Why is climbing me SO much more attractive than the Mousies, and Ball-sies, and Fluffy Things I have??? SHe is being a bad influance on Evil Freaky Venus, and that is saying something. Malena, this is YOUR cat!!!!!

Since this seems to be an Animal Oriented Post, I should tell you that Misty-Girl is sick. She was so happy to be back at my Boss's, but has been losing weight she didn't need to, and her fur was in Knots but she would not let me brush her, and Bad Things were happening in the Poo area. She has a new Lion Cut, not a fashion thing, but something that had to be done and is spending another night at the Vet.

On a non-animal topic, I just got offered the coolest gig with Paul, opening for The Biddies, whom I didn't know until I Googled them. Wow. Cool. Who knew???? I'll post info over at the Paul and Lorraine site, but if you're in Mineapolis/St Paul come down for this. Wow, I say again, proudly. (Paul is currently on a plane to Las Vegas and doesn't know about this yet. But he is SO playing it...)

Ok. SO what is UP with Blogger. The link thingie quit again and I can't get spellcheck to work at ALL. Bad for me. Trust me. And it won't let me post pictures. Hmmph.

Expect lots of posts this Birthday week, until then,

Love, gigs and Freaky Kitties,
Lorraine

Oh have I a good one for you! While standing at your kitchen sink a terrible thumping noise came from behind, I turned to see a flash of grey & white and then Whamo! Venus took the rug right out from under me! No kidding! Right behind her was mim, sweet little thing, who was desperate for play, jumped straight up in the air then climbed half way up the curtain before flying off after Venus! All the entertainment you would need, except your gigs of course,
I know you love the mimster, I forgive the "send her back" threat, LOL....
Paying to walk dogs!!!??? For Rent?? No way! Desperate cuddlies locally, no cost, I agree 110%!! Hello! Wish there were 10 of me..

I saw that bit on the rental dogs - good lord, they felt "time share" was more appropriate? Your rant on volunteering was well done indeed. I hope your new baby begins to behave better Lorraine! and yey for such a wonderful merryhousekeeper! And that will be great to see lots of pics and maybe video. but i am still very sad and blue

Oh, that's funny. They are pretty Wild, aren't they? I knew I was right on to name her after Malena....

( Mim is sitting on my knee wathing me type this every word. Freaky Kitties. )

Ivenotime, Sue, you should drive up, aren't you close to me? This Pub is kid friendly, the kind of place you could bring them along to...( and The Tim Malloys have PROMISED to behave )

Yes, that was the report, Time Share Dogs, not rental.

Sigh.

Merryhousekeeper does save me. Contantly. And she will be coming to one of the shows, with Spooky Daughter.

Sigh... you are so right Lorraine.

but, unfortunately in this world we live in, I can understand how that "service" would come about.

I can't wait to meet Mim and Venus, they sound delightful.

I live near Muskegon, Michigan so it's about an 8 to 10 hour drive, depending on the weather. I actually thought about driving out - but Jess has commitments all weekend with her job, and her talent show (which will be fun to see, and the primary reason I couldn't make any plans)is Friday night. As she is 17, I'm unwilling to leave her alone for a couple days as we live pretty remotely and well, her friends are 17 too....Great kids, but that's too much an invitation. My husband lives and works in Virginia and can't get back home for a few weeks yet. I guess I'm a bit stir crazy - I rarely do anything on the weekends - and could've really badly used some time off of mother, housekeeper, snowplower, etc. And Balticon was such fun, really enjoyed it! So, I will look forward to the pics and vid, and promise to stop my incessant whining :). Maybe next year....

Don't stop your "whinnig" we welcome anything and everything here and anyone who lives thru winter in this part of the world deserves to whine, I say...

Oook. Bad snow for Wednesday and Thursday, good luck you anyone traveling......

I hope the plane can still land despite the snow...

Rent-a-dog. What's next? Rent-a-kid? (of which plenty abandonned as well)
A stray young dog arrived at work yesterday. He looked so friendly, I do hope someone took him in (people tend to abandon their animals with us as they know we treat them well - the site is full of semi-feral cats).

I've got one, how about rent-a-skkunk!
I LOVE skunks. Live ones that aren't stinky. Hey, it's late, I'm just getting up.

hee hee It would be awful to fall in love with an animal that was only available 'for rent..'
strange thing this is..

I'm giving Brjánn a little break from softpaws
- a break that ends as soon as the next set arrives..
(he does that thing where he stands on my chest in the morning and goes ''ooh I'm so happy'' by scrunching his toes together all at the same time.. and I'm getting covered in little scratches and holes.. hehe)

I could get behind rent a Skunk, actually. Or rent a Spider......

Mad Mim and Evil Freaky Venus have developed a system in the mornings where Mim tunnels under the covers, and then Venus LEAPS on her and they battle it out.

They seem to think it is a good way to hasten me getting up and getting them breakfast.

I'm getting ready to cover my claws again soon. Got a photoshoot this Friday with David B. Red nails....
Hera_More photos of the freaks please!
If I COULD rent a spider for this shoot I WOULD put it on my face!

Poor Misty girl. Hope she recovers soon!

And yay for gigs!

Malena, you'll truly appreciate this. Last week I took Allistair to the zoo. We went into the 'insect zoo' building. What was Allistair's favourite thing to point at and talk to? The white-kneed tarantula (or was it the red-kneed one?). Any way... huge, fuzzy, beauteous (in a kind of funny looking sort of way, since it was kind of upside down in the tank). His father will be so thrilled. ;P

Yay beasties! Boo beastie rentals! Woot gigs!

Skunks! There were four in the treehouse yard last night at midnight, chittering and spraying away. I was alerted by Mr. Kitty & Batman both at the window (temporarily calling a truce!) scratching to get out and get some skunk.

Quiche, i am so sorry not to be at your party.
But you will not be lonely...!
I saw a movie that made me think of your quest for French-"The Diving Bell and the Butterfly". Truly a gorgeous film. GO SEE IT IN THE THEATRE!!!! xox me

Yes, Hera, more pictures!

We just took some photos of poor Misty-girl in her Lion Shaved-ness...Poor thing! I'll post them as soon as my Boss sends them to me.

We'll miss you, Kitty of the Skunks!

Michele, just got the picture you sent of the Wee One! Beyond sweet! And you are starting him right on the Spiders!

In my experience, all kittens will try to climb you. This is to be discouraged because they will want to continue when they become full grown and their claws are much stronger and longer. It is much harder to stop them after you've let them climb you as a kitten.
Even those that AREN'T Bengals.

Yay! You got the picture! And I cannot wait to see the expression on his father's face when we go *back* to the zoo on Monday and Allistair wants to go talking to more spiders. hee hee.

Wonder if he'll be like me though - I can tolerate spiders, but I only really *like* the ones that are huge. They generally don't sneak up on you the way the little ones do.

I have been a bad little LaMfan, in so far as I am only managing to reply to this now, after all of this time. In my defense, work blocked blogspot.com and Google made some changes that seem to prevent my hiptop from logging in, so I have to remember to check in after I put the kids to bed at night, and lately just keel over in exhaustion.

But.
So.

Rental dogs. Yeesh.
