Some Parts of the Weekend

Ok, so I promised you all a post this morning, and I will try and get this poor Zombie Brain going enough to actually tell you some of the best bits, and we can keep going as our brains come back.

( Did that make sense???)

First off, the very best bit was getting a chance to meet all of you who came down! Thank you all for all of your help, every time I turned around another of you had jumped on the volunteer bandwagon and was doing something to make things run smoothly and everything go perfectly! Rayvn and Vandaluna were everywhere as Con Chair and her Trusty Sidekick and the weekend was so very much fun.

We need to welcome Glen to our group too, if he is out there reading this. We adopted him as our Bodygaurd-Assistant-Thing and he saved out lives telling us where to go when, and getting us there and making sure we had everything we needed. AND he wore kilts. A utili-kilt for daywear and full dress kilt for the concert. Oh yes!

I should also say we would have been LOST without our tour manager Kitty ( as useuel ) she worked so hard selling things for us and keeping us together and calm, not to mention putting up with things like " It's six in the morning and Lorraine a' Malena are awake and starving and ordering room service"

And Paul and Jody and Dan Guy and Kristina..........Ok, I could go on thanking everyone for everything forever. Must move on. For the moment.

Those of you who who were there know that our Malena managed to catch a horrible cold, and nearly lost her voice. We kept her in bed with tea all day on Sunday and she managed to sing the concert, tho the Greg Brown-Tom Waits voice was pretty interesting. ( of course, Malena at half voice is STILL a better singer than anyone on the planet ) She wrote me this morning that her cold has turned into full blown flu, so we may not be hearing from her for a couple of days. ( feel better , Dearie! )

Ok, the concert, let's see what I can remember about that....Adam and I started the show with the Norwegian Dance From Hungry #1, a fiddle tune I wrote years ago, which would have been great had I remembered to connect the tuner to the DI, fortunately the vocal Mic was a really good one ( OH! The tech crew was AMAZING, I have never worked with better! ) and I think it piicked up. Then Malena came out ( picture crowd going wild ) and we did Tango Till They're Sore .

Hmm, onto the Tea Song, first Neil Gaiman Song I ever got from him, and then Something to Talk About. Marilyn, You Drive Me Crazy ( Greg Brown ) I know You By Heart ( Eva Cassidy, which Malena, sneaky thing, dedicated to me and made me cry ) Personal Thing, I'm a Vampire ( Future Bible Heros ) One Night in Boston ( an Adam Stemple Song , have I mentioned lately how very BRILLIANT a guitarist he is???? We cannot play without him and hope we never have to )

We did the Fox, and Dark Sonnet and Sonnet in the Dark ( from the first Flash Girls cd, one we recorded for Mirror Mirror but left off due to space ) and ended up with Lenord Cohen's I'm Your Man. ( what am I forgetting? )

After the concert was one of my favorite times of the weekend, we went out and signed cd's , tee-shirts, ( and one arm ) and got to talk to everyone and meet people. I have never felt so loved and appreciated, thank you all SO much for taking the time to let us know how much you enjoyed our music, truly, I was nearly in tears, it meant so much to us.....

The afters party , known commonly as the Goddess Corset Party , was a wonderful chance to unwind and just hang out. Of course, Paul ( Mr Score from my Irish Band ) and I set up and kept playing. Malena tried a couple of songs, but she just didn't have enough voice left to sing anymore , but Paul and I had a blast.

I remember one delightful fan who kept smiling and listening and told me" I hate myself, but I am already Blogging this in my head! " ( well??? WHERE is it???????? I want to read what EVERYONE is writing, let us know! )

Malena can go into greater details on the What We Wore, but I can tell you she wore a black evening gown with a Japanese Drag Queen Coat, and I a little Skull Skirt and the best HAT ever. ( I have never worn a HAT before ) and I wore my Desire Boots from the Fiddlers Green Auction, ( knee high red patent leather Doc Martens , hung all over with gold chains, made by Maureen )

I think I will stop for now, there is so much more, but this has gone on as long as my poor brain can think this morning. Malena and I got to fly together for the first part of our long trip home, ( after being driven to the airport by the most kind Dan Guy , don't ask about evil carrots ) and had an hour in Detroit together. I mention this only because , tired and not looking forward to parting, I managed to HURT myself on the escalator , it caught my leg just wrong, and I was bleeding all over, not serious, but bloody I tell you.

We got some napkins and as I waited to board my flight, Malena dabbed at the blood , she then, the little Vampire, folded them up and told me " I'll just save this for a snack later "

And that, I told her, was the end of our journey, and the Bloggable Moment that would end my first post.

Love and Zombie Brains,

Hi Mina! Many thanks for sharing, loved the posts! On the music, it's never quite what I expect either , hee-hee, I just like the way it turns out.....

Rubius, my Boss quite liked the Anansi Spider you sent, and we have put the little guy in a Place of Honor. He sends his thanks.

There's an old saying that a change is as good as a rest. So, while you may have thought I was doing work this weekend, I was having fun.

LaMie Ladies, you were beyond lovely! I loved every second I was there. And the beautiful Ms. Kitty was truly warm and wonderful and Danth Guy was so very welcoming and friendly as well. I hated to miss Sunday but had to . . . (and Mr. Glen, I didn't meet you but I saw you and the kilts are smokin' hot!)

love to you all and hope to see you again in the not too distant future ~

I am so glad to hear that after all the bustle and preparation, everyone had a total blast at the con -- even our dear Malena, despite the cold-now-flu. The con sounds like one huge love-in for everyone!

I'll be snooping around all the blog entries about the con, and enjoying myself by proxy, for sure.

(It would seem that both you and the boss, Ms. Fab, are in like circumstances -- both waiting for wandering brains to return from good times. ::smile::)

At 2:08 PM , Blogger Fabulous Lorraine said...

Yes, Starshadow, the brainless Zombie state is certainly making for an interesting working day........

Glen has apparently known of me since the days of GENIE ( if you know that , you know how far back this goes ) and has all my cd's. I said to him " so, you have basicly been stalking me for the past 15 years....????"

We are going to make it a rule I think, he must come to ALL of our Cons. In kilts. Duh!

At 2:45 PM , Blogger Mike Knauer said...

It was great to finally see you in concert! We were all quite jealous of Glen :) (I've never been on Genie, but I've got all the CDs)

My (really brief) take on the con can be found here: MikeKn's LJ

I'm the "one delightful fan" you mentioned who's blogging this. *grin*

You can find my entry about the con here:

And photos here (warning... not dial-up friendly!):

Seeing you, and having the chance to join you at the goddess party, was a real joy and treat. I hope I get to see you again soon. Make sure you let us know if you ever get the chance to come to Philly!

Oh, and I was also VERY jealous of Mr. Glen, but since he's a good friend, I won't hold it against him TOO much... *grin*

At 3:28 PM , Blogger Fabulous Lorraine said...

Look, Glen, now everyone hates you!

SO glad we could help, hee-hee......

I am loveing reading all of these posts! We love you all so, Malena is going to be so very happy!

The con was great fun! Way to go Ravyn!! Certainly one of the highest high points was the Lorraine a' Malena concert. And getting to meet the two of you afterward. Keep up the va-va-vooming ladies :)

It was the most lovely concert I've ever been to (and I've been to many)! I had no idea that Malena had a cold...I was in the front row and couldn't tell-you both sounded and looked wonderful, and were so very nice to meet in person (I was the nervous young woman who knocked over your water glass while having my picture taken with you-sorry about that!).
Thank you both so much!

So many new LaMies about! I love it.

I had a wonderful time. It was so great to see LaM in concert with Adam, and then rocking out with Paul at the Goddess Party. And it was so wonderful to get to hang out with LaMies old and new: Nora, Laura, Paul, Jody, Cat, Sue, Glen, Christy, Mimi, Rubius, Jon Singer, a bunch of people from FG, Glen's friend with the fangs who is doing the Neil tribute CD, and surely many that I'm blanking on in my sleep-deprived state! I never even got around to even saying *hello* to Neil but it was the best con ever. ^_^ (Rubius is the most adorable, happiest con-goer ever, by the way.)

I hope you all had as much fun as I did.

(I have the ability to not be wordy. I chose to not use it in these entries. Be warned!)

And I'm very sorry I missed the chance to corset it up with y'all. *sigh*

But - yes, please, come to the east coast again! Soon!

Health, healing, and love to you both..**hug**

Yes, echoing Dan, it was wonderful - meeting and talking with everyone!!! I enjoyed every minute! Short post, just got home after 12 hours on the road, glad everyone (so far) is home safe (safe travel to Nora and Laura!), feel better Malena, I need sleep...

i'm home, i've had a nap (though not *nearly* enough!) and i'm back to work-work, heh.

But i also wanted to send my deepest gratitude to Kristina, Sue and Dan, for all their help to me and to Vanda, to Glen for his help to Lorraine and Malena, and to the lovely ladies themselves, you all made this the most wonderful and magical Balticon that many have seen in a long LONG time!

Rubius, dahlink...I have your signed comic book. Send my ya eenfo and I will sends it along to ya, gurrrl.

Rubius is just unbelivable. I don't think I've ever met a happier person. On the way to the airport she was bubbling over with gratitude and happiness. I told her she would get smacked if she said "thank you" again. But I was only teasing her.

Malena, sorry you have taken a turn for the worse. I had your oils and garden fairies, but gave the rest of them out to various people (including Lisa) this morning. I figured you wouldn't mind.

Danth, you were so cute in your gothloliloveliness!! You enjoy driving my supercharged chariot to escort the divas to the airport? It's really a fun car.

for those of you who now know what I look like... you must now picture me pacing back and forth across my appartment... unable to find any words to express my joy and gratitude and love for you all. gasping at memories, sighing reverently, quivering in delight... my eyes tearing up and overflowing (has anyone ever cried so much at any convention?).. i am unable to fathom how much joy and light I feel has touched on me. I am simply overcome. And I don't know the words to express it... it is like quicksilver lightening joy flowing in my veins and spilling out of my pores. I wish I could bottle this and send it to all of you.

bar none.. this was the best weekend of my life that I can remember.

and Lorraine, thank you very much for passing along thy boss's thanks.. (and I thought the thrills of the weekend were over). the gratitude that I feel towards him... it is incalcuably immoderate. I am terribly flattered that he liked it.

what Vanda fails to mention is that that the generously offered ride imposed myself upon L's boss and herself... L's absolute gentleman of a boss who then, in inimitable style, proceded to blow my mind at the airport by inviting me for lunch.... (and HE sends HIS thanks, I gasp again in wonder) there are no words for how I feel. I think the divine thrill of a Lorraine a' Malena violin/voice crescendo may be closest to this feeling.

all of this has been beyond belief. I still can't get over it. and i never would have gone if not for this blog... and all of you. I wish for the power to powder blessings over all of you like fairly dust.

will post soon... and will write in more detail of all of the wonder of this weekend later too.

wait... something just came to me...

this weekend was a dream... if I could dream that well... or if the dreamking granted me dreams of the best thing I could possibly imagine. (all except for Malena getting sick and Lorraine getting hurt in the airport... please take care M... you are love incarnate to me)

So glad you made it home safe and sound, ladies! Hope you're well rested and back to full speed very soon.

Thanks so much for visiting our little corner of bay! I was aware of your music before (enough to be silly and out-of-sorts meeting you on Friday) and have gone on to full-blown squee-ing fangirl by the end of the weekend. ;-D
(In fact, I haven't stopped listening to your CD throughout a very stressful move this week so I am grateful to you for that.)
My post is clumsy at best, and there isn't much about the weekend, and its all jumbled together, but its on my livejournal:
Thanks again. :)

Thank you so much for gracing our leetal town this past weekend; here's hoping you'll be back. As a fellow-traveller along the dark and winding paths of Gothy Folk, my hat's off to ye.

And thank you also for not only giving great show, but for being so very cool and accessible and nice. (And my pal Spyder was thrilled beyond thrilled to have her new Tentacle Sex shirt noticed by someone so, well, fabulous.)

stay magickal,

I posted a limited run down of my experience at the con complete with a couple photos I thought were particularly nice...Lisa is so photogenic.

Rubius...simply that you are so elated brings me more joy than you can imagine. For some stupid reason I can't figure out, I unfortunately am a people pleaser and nothing makes me happier than making others happy. You have great karma.

Tivofanatic...if ever I am grateful to anyone! For all y'all who don't know, TF did the last minute run to the store and prepared all the food for the goddess party when we thought we had hotel catering in place and did not.

I love the fact that I can match names and faces now. I met many wonderful people. Thanks for making the weekend one to remember. And Malena and Lorraine, thanks for the beautiful music. I look forward to hearing you perform again in July at CONvergence. Here's to music, corset parties, kilts, and spiders!

Just looking all the photos. WOW! We are a handsome group ah? I'm so glad you all had fun. Fablo made sure of that. We'll be posting some photos on our site very soon. AND....sending out free LaMie stuff in the mail. Ohhhh darlinG!
I love you all!

Okay. I'm officially jealous.
Actually, I'm over it. Really.

Well.....mostly. ;)

I'm slowly reading everyone else's accounts, both here and LJ. I'm glad everyone got home okay that's supposed to be home already. I hope that Ms. Marvelous gets over the flu MUCH sooner than expected, and that Ms. Fabulous heals quickly from her previously (before rubius) unmentioned accident.

Hey, reads as if you had a blast. Everything sounded good to me. Except of vourse your getting caught on the escuklator and harming yourself. One thing I have to tell you is that you are a lot like me in some ways. Last year I tumbled over backwards, and did a flip on a department store esculator. My fault, I stepped too far backwards. I survived was only shaken up a bit as when I knew I was falling I comp, letely relaxed and let it happen. No I didn't sue the store. More things in life than money. Like friends, sounds as if you have a lot of them.
My aqdvice for you is to be a bit more cautious because yiou only get one chance to live, and you are to young to leave this world.
Love and hugs,
