Not such good news....

Yesterday while Malena was teaching her acting class, a child attempted to do a Fall backwards, despite Malena telling her what a Bad Idea this was. Malena managed to save the child from harm, largly, I believe by getting herself underneath, but in the process broke her arm and tailbone.

They can't do much about the tailbone, apparently, and they are going to take another look at her arm on Monday. The swelling was to much yesterday for them to consider casting it, and it may be broke in more than one place.

( Malena, ever the Fashion Diva , says she is going to paint the cast black and put sequins on it for BaltiCon. )

She is in a lot of pain and has a special sling for the weekend, but she won't be online much at all. Fortunately, I am going out there tomorrow and can help with things like, driving, cooking and any other darn thing she needs. If you want to write to her, or comment, send them to me and I will make sure she sees things.

I will keep everyone posted on how she is doing and what is going on with the poor arm.

In a related story, Johnny " Big Sexy" Sjogren called me this morning to say he was doing fine after his motorcycle accident, and other than a concussion and broken hand, was fine. Apparently, he says, they told him he hit a mini van.

NOONE ELSE GETS TO BREAK ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For at least 48 hours, I have way to much to do!

Stay well, all of you!

Love and bones,
Lorraine

Oh my goodness! Malena, Big Sexy, you poor dears!

I hear that broken tailbones aren't the sort of things that you can really treat beyond trying to make the person as comfortable as possible. Ack.

I hope your arm is not too broken, Malena! Ask them if they can give you a removable split instead of a cast. You can still decorate it, never fear!(http://www.cnn.com/2006/HEALTH/04/18/castaway.casts.ap/index.html)

i agree on that, if she can keep it stable. When i broke my leg in 2003, my doctor trusted me enough to put it in a boot rather than a cast. i had to stay off it for 8 weeks (no weight on it at ALL), and i did, but it was sooooooo nice to be able to take that boot off and wash my leg and put lotion on the skin to keep it from getting dried out.

That tailbone though, yeah, i think that's going to be OUCH for a while....

I am so glad Lorraine is heading your way, Malena. You have my wincing sympathy. Feel free to have me haul things for you at BaltiCon, and let me know if there's anything I can do for you. I'm definitely going to send some healing energy your way.

Your Jodyth

Oh, I am SO so sorry, Malena!! How awful (but how incredibly amazing of you to save someone else from harm by sacrificing yourself! Major props to you for being such a hero!).

The broken tailbone is awful. My second son, Nathan, cracked mine on his way into the world (his presentment was face up instead of the normal face down, so his sweet little head cracked my tail a good one!). Just rest, rest, rest and do whatever you can to make yourself comfortable. And I hope the doctors figure out what's what with the arm *soon*.

Much sympathy and hopes that you get better very soon. And don't skimp on the calcium.

OUCH!
I'm so sorry!
I guess, on the bright side, you will be on the road to recovery by Balticon and I'm glad it didn't happen just before. :-/

Just take it easy, eat bon bons (had to say that) and let Lorraine cook you some of that fabuloso Indian food I hear she makes so well! :-)

Ooh... much sympathy for the tailbone! Hope they've got you on something to really numb the discomfort.

One more vote for trying to get a removeable cast thingummy. Several friends who have broken pieces of themselves have sworn by them.

And poor Big Sexy!

Send everyone my speediest recovery wishes!

Oh my how awful for you both! Thankfully, Big Sexy, it wasn't worse (a minivan?!?), recover quickly! Malena, you poor dear, best and warmest wishes for a speedy recovery. I hope the arm can be in a removable splint and the tailbone heals quickly. I do believe Dr. Lorraine will provide the best of meds! You will have plenty of help at Balticon! Lorraine, safe journey!!!

Hi everyone. Well, the Dr. aren't going to cast the wrist until monday. THANK GOODNESS Fablo and Kitty are coming over tomorrow. I do hope they will give me a removable cast. I simply must be able to wear my drag queen coat that Miles bought me in Japan. (Hey! I'm got my priorities) Mimi just called and is bringing me ice cream and soup. I guess I can take a break from my actress dieting for a few days. At least I didn't break my leg, right?
And get well wishes to Johnny. What I wanna know is, What did the other people look like? (He's a BIG dude. He could dent a semi!)
Big hugs with my left arm. hhhe hee
LOVE YOU LaMies!

I agree with Lorraine: No One Else Is Allowed to Break ANYTHING.
Yeeouch!

Malena somehow I can just see you with black iris sequins on your cast.;) I'm so glad you're gonna have Lolo and Kitty there to help you 'cause the pain has gotta be awful. (On top of being not able to do anything for yourself.)

And poor John, OUCH.

Sending healing thoughts your way:)

Adults breaking bones is not a good thing.

Ravyn broke her leg (45' angle) dismounting a horse two years ago and she still has problems. Who knew it could be so bad? I feel so badly for anyone who breaks a bone and sincerely hope it never happens to anyone!

BE CAREFUL! EVERYONE!!

OW!!OwOwOw.... that hurts just to hear of it. I wish you a speedy recovery (I've heard rumor that liberal doses of chocolate are good). Do we need to wrap everyone up in bubblewrap suits? Actually that could be fun... hmmm....

You could sprinkle some plastic spiders among the sequins you want to put on your cast - that would be a conversation starter!

oh Malena I am so so sorry to hear of your broken wing and tailfeather. Of course, YOU would get yourself hurt in the aid of another... major kudos for your kind acts... but we all knew you were that wonderful... your soul shines through your music.
oh you poor creature... and I also am so very glad Lorraine will be there soon. I am confident she will be an ideal balm... as much as is possible.

I am also very sorry to hear the bad news about Big Sexy.

May you heal well and soon and in as much comfort as possible.

P.S. sign me up for the help crew

hi everyone,
i just went back and looked at the last entry re:spiders & pill cars, still unsure if you continue threads in later posts (advise please, my oh-so-tech wonders)
anyway! my new little Ghosty is a white Miata with a hard shell top covering a convertible option, and i Love him...
just wanted to close that thread...
got Lorraine from LAX & we flew up to the Fairyland Ranch on wings, to get to poor Malena. Always the trooper, Malena put on her brave face, but i can tell, that girl is in pain. Lorraine is a godsend for her.
today?brunch with Mimi before she goes on her next mission.
so is it now 35 days?! ay-yi-ya

Having seen the Tim Malloys play the last two nights, I can report that Johnny is in fine spirits and has adapted his guitar playing to work around his injuries. He told me after "Sweet Thing" last night, "I can play the hell out of that with two fingers!" Which is true, as my happy dancing feet can testify.

I don't know when Lo has to leave, but I'll be coming out your way next week for the week, Malena, and can come by to assist and gopher if you like. Or put on a fashion show to amuse you. Or juggle. Or do my knife-throwing act or something.

Oh Nooooo! Poor Malena and poor John!

Which arm is it, Malena? Is it your dominant hand? (I know it's a pain and a nuisance even if it's not - my sister has broken her left arm twice...)

These things often feel much better once you have it immobilised. My dear one broke his wrist at Christmas (fell off his bike on wet cobbles) and had to wait a few days for a diagnosis - once the cast was actually on, it wasn't nearly so bad.

And I once merely cracked my tailbone (sitting on a chair that wasn't there!) so... well, you have my sympathy. Owiee.

K, "wet cobbles" sounds like a great song title. or a video nasty--can't decide! either way, i love the imagery...
and Danth, do you have my cell? Giveth me a ring while in LA, would love to see you. email your info to me on the furrytiger@gmail.com address, please!
ok, off to smog check the Ghosty.
Lolo & Malena, how goes it up north? miss you!
