On the Road Soon....

So, it is coming up quickly, our BaltiCon, less than two weeks. We are really excited about getting to perform and getting to meet everyone, this is going to be a LOT of fun. I am sorry for those of you who can't get there, but you will be there in spirit and we will be doing complete reports and hopefully, get some video or tape of all the music for you.

So, what exactly are we doing there and with whom, you ask?

Well , for one thing, a concert, backed by the Tim Malloy's and our own producer, Adam Stemple. This is going to happen at 8:00pm Sunday night, I have been told, and we have the songs together, and the outfits picked out. Adam is an amazing guitarist, and also an author in his own right, having published, on his own " Singer of Souls" and with Jane Yolen " Pay the Piper" both are wonderful books, buy them and get them signed by Adam, is the best advice I can give you here today. He is also married , for many years now, to one of my longest and bestest friends, Betsy, she will also be coming to the Con, go up and introduce yourselves to her, I promise you , it will not be a dull expierence.

We are doing what is listed as a Children't Concert on Saturday at some point, which ought to be fun. Paul Score will be playing that with us, and we will be doing an all accoustic set for "kids" of all ages. Mostly it will be just us, some tunes and a whole bunch of bubbles and fun, acting silly. Yes, you're all invited.

There is a party on Sunday night too, starting around 10:00pm, which is being called a " Corset Party" but you do not HAVE to wear a corset, the only rule for it I am laying down is you MUST be wearing SOMETHING. We are not into naked. Paul and Malena and I , with Adam if he is around and the spirit moves him, will be playing some tunes , tho not doing a formal show. Just the sort of thing the musicisions DO at parties, and I for one, am really looking forward to it. There is a lot of stuff that we won't have time for at the concert, and it will be great to be able to kick back and mess around.

We are doing some other panel type things as well, and we will let you know as soon as we hear what and when they are.

Kitty and Malena, the Merch Queens , have been working for months on things for our table in the dealers room. We will have tee shirts, on sale for the very first time, and all sorts of other Goodies, including Nocturna Underwear! Yes, folks, be the first to own these little darlings. ( Anyone not coming, don't worry, all will be offered on the site very very soon! We would never leave you out!) We will of course sign anything, at any time. ( Remember that No Naked Rule tho , hee-hee ) Please feel free to come up and introduce yourselves at any time, we SO want to meet you all! We are not scary, really...

( ok, so maybe we ARE , but you lot have nothing to fear! )

Muic and magic, Lorraine a' Malena

Wow! What a press release! Are you sure your calling is musician and assistant?

Must wear clothes? Good thing I bought my pasties today!!
::snicker - vanda ducks before she gets whapped with the closest thing Lorraine can throw at her::

Oh, and Danth...from the previous thread...why else do you think we are having a corsetted goddess party but to see you all dolled up?

I. CAN'T. WAIT. I'm looking forward to seeing the Tim Malloy's and Adam Stemple & Betsy too!

I'm going to wear the b&w top to the concert and the corset to the party. Mwahahahaha...

I'm going to see Colleen Doran at the Smithsonian tomorrow!

Happy Mothers' Day to all you mothers!

At 8:04 PM , Blogger Kitty Cat said...

well, i am all about "clothing optional"--
hahaha with love from your tour manager, Kitty

At 8:54 PM , Blogger Malena said...

Well, I for one will be wearing as little clothing as possible. A corset a skirt and some fishnets. That's it for this wanna be Morticia.
Dan is going to be the belle of the ball. I've seen his outfits and they are gothloli fabulous.
On the merch end, I bought more undies today in larger sizes. I for one HATE it when I can't find anything big enough for my bodacious BUM. So, we've got size 5 through 24. Goddesses unite!

BTW (as nora surfaces briefly from convention planning, heh):

If anyone gets to the convention and wants to coordinate with me or Laura about the party, and you don't see me, go to the Balticon Command Central (ConOps) and they will either know where i am, or they can page me on the radio.

Also, i will have my cell phone with me, email me at nora at ravyn dot com and i'll send the number to you.

12 days and counting! EEEEEEEEEK!

At 6:55 AM , Blogger ivenotime said...

Yeh! Its coming fast! Can't wait! Nora, don't work too hard, but it looks like its coming together beautifully. The party will be a blast - Danth, can't wait to see your outfits, I'm sure we will all be jealous of your gothlolli beauty. The music will of course be spectacular, this is going to be one great time! Panties for all!

Ravyn, nice avatar!
i am asking all the spirit guides to smooth the rocks out of our path for the weekend. all will be well.

Today I think I figured out what I'm doing with my hair. (I can't wait to get a haircut. LOL) I'll be out in Denver the week before Balticon and must pick up a few last items.

Colleen Doran was amazing today! I had her sign one of the two Sandman stories she illustrated. We talked Neil and Warren Ellis and JMS.

Will there be a more complete schedule of events posted to the site before check-in, vandaluna?

At 8:38 PM , Blogger vandaluna said...

If there isn't a more complete schedule posted, Danth, I will email you one as one emerges. I do not have access to post to the Balticon site...I am merely a lowly peon idea person for Bcon (read...person who kicks butt to keep things going properly). The schedule, as posted, as only a few changes and I believe Saturday is good. The changes for Sunday include Neil's GoH presentation being combined with a reading and LaM's concert being moved to 8:00 when all the un-dead things may finally emerge.

On a more fun note...I've ordered wines today. I got a mango since I recall Lolo saying she likes Mango. I showed my friend the latest pic posted here and she says that LaM are gorgeous...yeah, but we already knew that.

Danth's gothlolilovliness...I'm already jealous without evening seeing. :-)

Kitty - thanks!

Danth - i will be updating the main tent schedule on the web in the next day or two. (um yes, i'm not only the Chair, i'm also the Webmistress...) i believe what Vanda said is correct though. And, as soon as we have the complete programming schedule finished (which will include a lot of cool stuff that will make you tear your hair out trying to decide what to attend!!!), we will have it available as a downloadable PDF file. We should have the fine tuning done by Friday.

Just remember, no schedule is final until the Dead Dog Party!

At 11:00 PM , Blogger Malena said...

Dead Dog Party? I heard the word dead and was interested. I'm sewing up a skirt while memorizing lyrics. Ohhhh BTW, RHINESTONE g-string undies are being made as we speak. Brings new meaning to the words, Sassy Pants.

At 11:44 PM , Blogger ravyn said...

oooooh Malena, sounds very cool, hehe

Okay, the Dead Dog Party. The last item on the program. i'm so sorry that you and Lorraine will miss that one. The Dead Dog Party is held by whomever is left standing after loading the truck Monday afternoon :-)

When i update the schedule on the web site, i will also post a "volunteer recruitment announcement" on the Balticon blog, but, for any of you who like to help out at cons, this is what we do:

We feed our volunteers twice a day, and offer a few nice perks, including an exclusive Balticon Berserker t-shirt (this year featuring art from Lisa Snellings-Clark!!!!), priority seating for the Masquerade, and, for those of you crazy enough to want to come back next year, a comp for the following year's con membership.

Anyone interested please send email to volunteers@balticon.org .

Okay now i MUST sleep!!!!

At 4:09 AM , Blogger vandaluna said...

YEEP!!! Rhinestone G-string panties!!!! Ooohhhh!!!! Now that sounds like a MUST HAVE!!!! Only problem with that is that I won't want to cover them up.

At 1:36 PM , Blogger ariandalen said...

Okay, if we can't be naked (naykid/naykeed/nekkid), can we come nude?

::eyes wide with impish grin::
I guess that leaves out swimsuits, too?

Does anybody else feel like buying skin colored leotard and tights to wear under a coat or robe, just for this party?

Heh, and to think, I won't even be there. ;)

At 2:31 PM , Blogger scored4life said...

Hmmmm… What a conundrum as I have a penchant for both un-dead creatures of the night and naked. What to do, what to do? Hrmph. Follow the rules I guess. No naked it is. But I would wear my guitar!... Fine. But what I do in my room is my business, and the other three or four people staying there… I guess…

By the way, if I knew all I had to do was be busy for a gig or two and Lojo would come up to play, I would have done it a while ago, and magically showed up through a cancellation of my previous conflict. Duh.

Also, thank you all for the warm welcome! I look forward to meeting you all!

Hey! In LA, I see women wearing low rise jeans that are so low you can see a lot more than the rhinestones honey. The Nocturna notepads came today. Very cute! You can draw little outfits on her/my naked body...or bikinis, or send one to your favorite preacher...hee eheee heee
He'll be asking for forgiveness for months AND start believing in vampires. What a bargain!

At 9:38 PM , Blogger vandaluna said...

Dang Lorraine.
Already got the mango wine. Could have bought the grapefruit champagne, but opted for the tangerine insted. (got the mango with you in mind). I have boxes sitting here in my dining room!

Awww! and who wouldn't want to see hot chickies and dudes in minimal clothing? ;-)

Oh, did no one mention that Balticon is a clothing-option con? ;-)

At 9:45 PM , Blogger ravyn said...

um, dearie, no one mentioned it because Balticon is NOT a clothing-optional con! As they say in the Masquerade, "No costume is no costume!" hehe

At 4:25 PM , Blogger Malena said...

I for one want to see Fablo in a rainbow bright costume. I of course will be going for the "witch" costume. Yeah..thought I'd mix it up this year. Ha ha NOT!
Oh Vanda! The vino sounds great. I will be off my veggie and protein diet for the CON. It will be Hedonism at it's best. If not there, WHERE?

At 10:48 PM , Blogger Rubius said...

everything sounds Mahvelous!!! thanks for all the thought and effort that everyone is putting into this... i am really excited. I think it will be great!!!

and all of the merch sounds like real fun... man, I bet it will be hard to pick favourites!!

as for LaMie, a wee kitty update... she is still with me, but if her owners don't show and if I keep her, it seems like I will have to move. In a battle of "kitty versus appartment" we all know who wins... paws down. (even though I have loved this apartment every day since I moved in, have wonderful neighbors, it is the best value I have ever heard of and is close to work and everything else) ... the only thing that makes me nervous to adopt a cat is that I have always tried not to get one so that I could travel the world, unencumbered. but it seems like she picked me... so I guess I will try to line up a fairygodmother' in case I ever have to travel.

At 10:55 PM , Blogger Rubius said...

gosh I hope she isn't pregnant (as an unfixed female found outside in springtime)heh..heh.

At 9:14 AM , Blogger Kitty Cat said...

Sherpa, i hear you. Goddesses like to run naked through moonlit fields. oh well, til Lolo lifts the ban on everyone (but A.) i suppose i will make do.

& Rubius, my mister Batman (my big black kitty) has a couple fairy godmothers, as i do have to travel quite a bit.
he looks forward to their visits & the earlier you can start L'ammie on getting used to this, the better...
you have a great spirit to take in a cat.

*shout-out to Paul, did you get sorted with my cousin? let me know!

At 11:15 AM , Blogger Dan Guy said...

Lori will be pleased to hear that it is not a clothing-optional con. ^_^

At 3:02 PM , Blogger Fabulous Lorraine said...

Hey now! Naked Rocks behind closed doors. Especially at night when everyone looks better. Hee hee

I'm sure with my costume choices I will be the least clothed person at the con. Well, maybe not. Fablo and I have seen some con winners let me tell ya! Are you listening my back pierced corseted friend from Minneapolis? You little bad ass! Yes, she took the prize last year for Painfully Sexy attire.

Here are the Malena RULES:
Wear all the stuff you normally don't dare wear. You know, the skirt that's too short. The corset that shows WAY to much cleavage. Cause guess what? If you can't wear it at a sci-fi fantasy con..where can you?
I mean really, these will be Klingons there. (I secretly want to be a warrior woman too..along with Snow White) Hey, That's Nocturna. Watch for my 3 foot tall witch hat. Can't miss me! So live it up darlinGs! We will adopt the Vegas Motto,
"What goes on at balticon, stays at balticon"
PARTY ON LaMies! I can just feel the leather on my skin already. Wehoooo!

Small little subnote for all the other spouses who are not going to the CON...
In real life, I am a wife and mother. So, don't worry. It's all an act..hee heee well...except for the outfits. That's real. Grocery Store Baby!

"Stay on target.... stay on target.... Almost there.... almost there..."

There's not long to go now, so please --everyone-- be careful. No broken bones, no sicknesses, no injured pets, no professional emergencies. S'il vous plait. Be thee careful.

At 7:35 PM , Blogger Rubius said...

I echo Dan's wish for everyone too...

Since Lisa Snellings-Clark has unfortunately also been hurt... BE CAREFUL people!!!

and thank you for your kind words (but from one feline-lover to another... it is hard not to love a found cat... don't you think?)

At 8:54 PM , Blogger vandaluna said...

Dan, if you mean me, it is Laura, not Lori... No, it isn't a clothing optional con, but there is scanty and there is SCANTY. :-)

Having lost 25lbs this spring (some weight gain was from meds), I'm feeling good! 9which I'm telling EVERYONE is from Malena's psychic diet)

In some ways I too am happy it isn't clothing optional...there is a joke that a size XL is a con XS. ::argh::

Kitties!! My babies!! Always had cats. My little black o'kittyero is the BEST cat EVER!! I went to the pound. I wanted a black female. Some cats ran up to greet me, some quivvered in corners, but Lila sauntered up and licked my finger. She has been close to me since. She is the coolest. She takes walks with me. Sleeps on my legs. Only eats food if I give it to her.
O'Fluffero, Fluffla, is a himilayan cream point. She is a brat. But they both are like little satellites and revolve around me from room to room. They make me happy when nothing else can pierce through the darkness.

There is not alot going on Friday evening. I think that would be a great time for communion and commiseration with anyone interested in sharing wine. I may do some tarot readings if I'm feeling focused enough. The childling can scoff and roll eyes at her mother's strangeness and even stranger friends...but don't let her fool you, she really likes it. Actually, she'll probably tune you out in favor of some sort of Japanese media product.

At 6:34 AM , Blogger Malena said...

Vanda! Congrats on the weight loss! My daughter loves anime too. And you should bring your cards. You are very good at it.

I'm doing a panel called Magic 101 where I explain how to manifest positive changes in your life. (And you don't even need to kill a chicken!)

At 9:31 AM , Blogger K said...

Malena... how's YOUR wrist? (Poor Lisa. Lorraine, I think you should tread very carefully for a while just in case there is anything in this "bad luck comes in threes" theory.)

vandaluna :: No, I meant Lori, my wife. ^_^

I will be arriving at the hotel Friday afternoon.

At 2:16 PM , Blogger ivenotime said...

Friday evening sounds lovely - Vanda, it would be very cool to see you read tarot cards - I've never seen it done before and congrats on your weight loss - that's great! Rubius, bring pics of little lammie, she can be the mascot. Stay safe and whole, all!

Okay. :)
Now that I've picked myself up off the floor where I fell laughing from Ms. Fabulous's last comments......
To my knowledge, I have not met anyone here in person. At least, not in this incarnation. Now, I have been known to wander while asleep, but I seldom remember where I've wandered, or what I've done.

So, all that being said, where is it that you think you met me? ;) Anyone else think they've met me in person? Ms. Marvelous thought she had met me at a Tori Amos concert in December, I think it was. So, in the interest of not clogging this blog with off topic schtuff, I'll go post in my own where you can comment away. :)

At 9:13 PM , Blogger vandaluna said...

Aw Malena, shame your daughter isn't coming. Lisa's daughters will be there and Rebecca's daughter, Jordan, will be there too. I do joke, however, that I don't have a daughter but a Japanese son. Nora has, however, enlighted my daughter to Yowi. ;-) I just tease the kid about that and Hentai.

Well, i'm leaving Sunday...stopping in Durham for a couple days then heading on to Nora's. No workie for two weeks! Wow!

Patricia just dropped off a bottle of her Category 5 (white sangria). She said you needed to try it that it is her best seller.

At 4:10 PM , Blogger Fabulous Lorraine said...

I know it's a bummer my bean isn't coming. Although, she prefers to see her mom in a pair of sweats instead of a boob bustin' corset. She and Miles hear me belting out songs 24/7. Belting and busting out is what I do best. He hee. The arm is pretty much healing fine. "ain't nothing gonna hold me down! Oh no. I've got to keep on movin!"(a song from the 80's.)

I'm finally finished with Fablo's skirt and shirt I hade her. I made a skirt for me last night to wear under my lace dress. http://malenateves.com/photo.html
(Fifth one down on the right side)

We have the LaM schedule now, thanks to the amazing Nora and Laura. I hope I've got it right....Here's the short version:

Sat 11:00 AM - GoH Collaboration Panel
Sat 12:00 PM - Music GoH Childrens Concert
Sat 08:30 PM - Masquerade
Sat 12:00 midnight- Magic 101 with Malena

Sunday 3:30 PM Malena's Goth Makeover (1 hour)I'll help you get sexy for the concert!!

Sun 08:00 PM - Lorraine a' Malena Concert

I'm bringing surprises to give away at my Magic panel. Let me know if there's anything you want me to address.
LOVE YOU LaMies!

At 5:37 PM , Blogger vandaluna said...

Funny how the little ones are...my child has nightmares when I wear things like corsets. heee!

I LOVE your lace dress! I've admired it in your pics on several occasions!!

I finished the corsets I've been making for Nora and I. I was going to make her a skirt to match (my material was totally sold out), but I am not sure if I still have enough time. Sometimes I don't know where I get the time to get anything done with working OVER 40 hours a week often with hardly a break, mothering, eating dinner, spending time with the huzbin, getting homework done, not to mention the child's activities! My head spins! Well, it's off to see if I can finish a couple more projects before I have to leave on Sunday. :-)

At 7:18 PM , Blogger Rubius said...

I know it has been said before... but man!!! do we have an amazing group of people here or what!?!?!

I will certainly bring pix of my wee precious bundle of kitty-love... no one has claimed her yet.(and I rather hope no one does)

The schedule looks interesting... and I now have to echo Vanda... LOVE the lace dress. (and congrats on the spring loss) I too am falling behind on my outfit prep (too much overtime). As for the magic panel, will you address self-cleansing... spiritually of course, in the case of past negative connections? (I have been wondering if you do that sort of thing)... and I'm SOOOO happy to hear the wrist is coming along well. (belting and busting...lol)

At 8:37 PM , Blogger vandaluna said...

If Malena doesn't address cleansing, Rubius, I know a fair amount about it. I would be happy to address the topic. Some of the stuff I know is actually pretty fascinating and some scientists have studied in that area.

ok all,
i have packed up my suitcase & sat on them both to zip in all the MERCH. plus my display doesn't fit into my big suitcase so i shall be the goofball running through LAX w/ a port case covered in stickers...oh well. Hey Lolo, i have a 3 hour layover @ MSP--okay i know, too far..
but i feel like MSP is "our" airport. It is actually a really good airport as far as these things go.
have a 7 am shuttle, and a rock show scheduled for straight from the plane. a girl doesn't need sleep when she has the love molecules coating her!
xoxox see you all @ balticon.
love from Kitty Cat

Malena - I've seen the photo before and love the lace dress! But I have to admit the thing that caught my eye about the photo is something in the combo of the lighting and the make-up - maybe combined with a sort of innocent (wow, typing that just made me smile) look on your face - it's one of my favourite pictures of you. The wannabe photographer in me only hopes that someday I'll be able to take shots like that. *sigh*

Have fun at BaltiCon everyone! Miss you.

At 7:48 PM , Blogger ivenotime said...

Lovely dress Malena, and I agree with you Mistress Mousey, the photo, expression and all is wonderful. I can't wait to see all these great outfits from such talented seamstresses, and kittie pics, etc. Kitty take care on your mad dash thru the airport - you don't want to be the third in the line of injuries! Beez, i will try to take lots of pics - thats a shame about Vegas, any chance of coming to baltimore?

At 8:40 PM , Blogger vandaluna said...

He's not due until mid-June - and I've already explained to him that he's not allowed to show up until early June, preferrably after 3 June (I have an event I'd really like to be at that takes place on 3 June).

I'm just not posting much because a) I'm jealous as heck that y'all are having fun without me and b) I've been doing lots of stuff offline. :)

Don't worry, when I pop you'll know.

Oh Mousey, that's enough to make you pop!

You will be at bcon is spirit. :-)

Mousey! I started making your baby Goth onesies! She/he will be sooo cute! Do we know if it's a girl or a boy? Any name ideas yet?

At 12:03 PM , Blogger mistress mousey said...

Thunderdome is indeed a blast. I expect I'll be quality testing all the couches in the fundraiser "lounge" for comfiness, but hopefully I'll be up enough to take a million photos. Besides, metal-corsetted firedancing goddesses make for amazing looking firetrails with a digital camera.

And huzzah for gothy baby clothes! It's a boy - Allistair August Larson. And if he's anything near as squirmy out of the womb as in it, diapering will be a fun game. :P

At 9:49 AM , Blogger K said...

That's an amazing photo, Mousey!

Malena, that is a lovely dress... I hadn't seen any of those photos before. An odd thing: I'm not sure I'd have recognised you from the one where you have your hair in a bun! Just because (I think) it's always been loose in photos on the blog. I love experimenting with up-dos myself, but if anyone I know changes their signature style, it always comes as a big surprise to me...

It is unseasonably FREEZING COLD here. I hope it's not in Baltimore. Goosepimples probably do not go that well with corsets.
