Catching up on the news....

Well, I am back after a couple days letting myself be, well, to be frank, asleep most of the time. Achy, fever, and very very tired. I think it was my body saying "If you don't do some down time, we will take it for you" It was nice, except for the feeling like crap bit. Cats liked it during the day, and dog liked it at night.

Cabal seems to be feeling better, he has a new Dog Walker who comes every morning, with her dog Kota, a fast little Aussie. Cabal can't catch her, but never stops trying, and he makes his laughing face more often, but still isn't eating right. I am trying all sorts of things at different times, and cooking chicken and going out and pretending it is agility class seems to work the best.

There is a chipmunk in here who delights in teasing Cabal....I don't know who has more fun...Hours of entertainment, and no danger to the little guy, trust me. Chipmunks are SMART and FAST!

I have had a serious inquiry about my Fosters!!!! I have had several, but it has never seemed like the right home, and now this one has gone so far as to apply and has been accepted! Fingers crossed, it sounds like a lovely home. I'll miss them, but they need their own people.

Kali seems to have integrated well into the household. Venus remains a little reserved, but Kali and Mim are full on wild things. I think the Bengals are teaching her bad habits. Kali bit Kitty a good one before she left, and now Kitty says she is suing me.

(For what one wonders? With Miss Kitty you never know...)

Here is Mim saying "I will teach her Everything I know....Oh yesssss......" (To Kali, not Kitty. Darned confusing, these Kitties and Cats....)

And Venus with Gargoyle, not to leave her out....Kali sadly, gets left out today as I have none of her here.

I am hoping now that things are back to normal that I can get some work done on my new site. Which I believe means telling someone what I want done. Easier said than done, believe me. This weekend seems like a time where things could happen. Only one gig, a house party on Friday. Half the couple is actually Irish. Might be in some trouble....

It is a stew party, and we get to play in the Garage. (hey, we aren't picky, we'll set up in your bathroom if the price is right...)

I like that tho. Playing a Stew Party.

Right. Back to work. Sod is coming on a truck, with dirt, and lovely things from China, as well as more e-mail than you could shake a stick at. (What does that MEAN anyway?????) And I want to catch the Vid's of Bosses readings. Cabal always likes to listen to him. He runs back and forth to the door. The only thing better is cat videos...

Missed you lot!

Love and Rest,
Lorraine

So glad you are feeling better! Thanks for the pictures-Venus though, seems to be plotting more eevil all the time. I shudder to think what she will involve the gargoyle in.
Hopefully, you will find somthing that Cabal will eat consistently.

I don't want to know what Venus is plotting with the Gargoyle at night while I sleep...

Oh Fods! I so need video. We got a, er, some sort of electric Panda (A some point I will learn WHY we have this...) Cabal does NOT like this, and is not at all sure what to do, Hans and I laughed till we cried...

glad you are feeling better Lorraine! It would be great to see dog plus panda vids- I have a windup alligator which drives my dogs bananas, and I can only imagine how funny robopanda would be with Cabal. Poor Cabal - hope his appetite picks up. Poor Kitty with a bit finger. Lovely pics of Venus and Mim!

YAY! :) I'm glad you're back and better. :) And glad Cabal's better, too and up for chasing the chipmunk.

Educated guesses at the origins of 'more than you can shake a stick at.'

If you'd like help with the new site, let me know; if you'd rather not, I won't be offended; just let me know either way. :)

What's a Stew Party?

That's a fantastic photo of Mim.

Cabal has good taste - I'm rather disturbed by the panda myself.

I'm glad you are feeling improved.

I am just now still at work, but drinking tea and eating a pawpaw, something I'd never tried before. (A co-worker has a tree.) It's like a squishy banana-mango cross, very tropical-tasting for something native to Pennsylvania.

I am so glad you are feeling better. It had been so long since your last post, I was getting worried.

I was hoping to see your boss do a live reading here in the SF Bay Area, but it looks like its not going to happen. Oh well, thank Fod for the videos.

Did anyone else watch "Pushing Daisies" last night? It felt to me like the pacing was off because they were re-setting the back story. Still loved it though.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for the Foster Bengals. They seem like a very entertaining breed, but too much work for me! :-D

Today is madness! Happily, I get to take my dog to work with me once a week and today's the day.. She has lots of fun being spoiled by everyone. And I love having company on my lunch walk.

To all the fiends out there with injuries and the computer virus, be kind to yourselves and take it slowly.

Paw-paw sounds interesting.....

Okay, enough rambling and back to work.

Hi FabulousLorraine,
I’m so glad you’re feeling better. Being sick and not being able to do everything you want to is a bummer. On the up side, you do get to laze around and have a legitimate excuse to do nothing but watch DVD’s and sleep.

Great cat pics.

It is funny to see animals and very small children with electronic gizmos. My youngest daughter loved Barney, so I bought her one that talked and sang songs. The Barney was a bit scary actually, and both her and the cat’s reactions to it were similar. It was pretty funny, I hope I didn’t scar her for life.

Q, so pleased you're feeling better. I hope Cabal is eating properly again soon, although if he has energy to chase chipmunks he must be feeling Ok, don't you think? And good news on the fosters, too. Loved all the pidtures, and I think a cabal-meets-the-robo-panda is a picture which needs blog-time. Pretty please with tentacles on top?

Has the gargoyle lived with you long?

Good night, and have fun.

Robopanda! That was it's name. I'll get pics and vid if I can, it is really silly. Tho I too fear this panda....

Val, I would like help, can you actually put the thing up, or just design? Danguy has offered too. How do we do this? I want a really simple straighforward website, that is clear and easy to get around on...Spooky, but not Ubergothed.

Just a nice place where we can all hang out, with our Night garden, and my writings, and band info, a bio perhaps. The blog of course, some pics....

I have no idea what a Stew Party is come to think on it. I think you make a big pot of stew, hire a band to play in your garage, and invite all your friends...

Paw-paws are native to about a square mile and a half in PA. And they Do Not ship. Not even picked late and fed-exed overnight. I know this, actually...

The Gargoyle was a housewarming present from Dancing Liza. I don't remember what his NAME is tho....

Cats are always passing along the bad habits, aren't they? My cat used to eat food in the bowl, but then we had a roommate-cat who took a mouthful and dumped it on the floor first. Very messy.

My current place's bathroom is big enough for an acoustic trio to practice in, especially if someone stands in the tub. Much nicer than the previous place's smaller on (with Packers-themed tub enclosure).

Glad you're feeling better. For the dog, have you tried putting some earbuds under his bed or something? Connected to an iPod full of readings, maybe.

We don't have Stew Parties but we have Soup Nights which sound like similar ideas, with maybe a little more broth :)
If you find yourself out west here on the 3rd sunday of a month, maybe you can play a Soup Night :) Ben can accompany you on the popgun autoharp!

I watched Pushing Daisies! The backstory was good for hubby and for me since i'd only seen a couple and he hadn't seen any at all.

Glad you're back to the land of the living Lorraine!

WIsh i could help w/ the website...that's what i did before typing myself out of computer jobs! Sigh.

I am so glad you've had a rest up and feel better. The photos of Cabal listening to the chipmunk are priceless. I saw Cabal in black yesterday, right down to the same happy grin. Luckily I was alone in my car so no-one heard me squeal with delight about the black Cabal.
Mim definitely looks like she is contemplating mischief.
Enjoy the gig and stew.

@Karen B. They make NFL-themed bathtub enclosures?! Okay, then.
As to the why of the panda ask Danguy as the official instigator. Just be grateful you aren't also getting the armadillo too.

At 5:04 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

You could be rigth about the armiddillo. Wasn't that meant ot be an anteater???? I get so confused.

I leave the radio on for Cabal, MPR when I go have to leave, if no one else is there.

Am NFL bathroom might have been interesting, she says causiously, not wanting to offend any sports fans out there. I am sticking with halloween. I need to add things this time of year. I want a full skeloton to sit in the Romance room. Maybee two. Like they are having tea.

Yea to black Cabals! I put Cabals SUperhero cape on him today, with all the hunters out. It's orange you see. He got really excited when I did. Not sure why, but I took him for a walk anyway...

Colour me mortified.

The other day I left a comment that may have offended some people. Particularly in relation to footballers.

My sincere apologies. I was thinking more of Aussie rules footballers, many of which follow a culture I find offensive However, not all of them do.

I guess I’ve learnt another valuable lesson about how bad it is to stereotype people and if I’ve offended anybody, I’m really sorry

At 5:45 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Not to worry, if I didn't catch it, and no one told me, it can't have offended anyone deeply...I am sure it was fine. People here are good about speaking up nicely.

We shouldn't sterotype anyone, tho sometimes it is hard....Hooligans everywhere in all walks.

Speaking of which, I am actually going to watch the debate tonight (opening a can of worms...) And I should say, I don't mind MILD political talk, but if it gets strong, I will have to ask it to stop. No fights, take them outside, ok?

I think we are all basicly in agreement that no matter who is running or in office, we here at the Bengal Alliance and Cabals Cabal, could run the world much better!

At 5:55 PM , Blogger Unknown said...

Hurrah for feeling better - both you and Cabal. I trust this will continue until both of you are back in "fighting trim", so to speak.

Hurrah also for a prospective good home for the fosterlings! I hope that works out, too.

Ahahaha...the RoboPanda! ::glee:: Ask the WebGoblin, it was his idea. He floated it as a random mention on your Boss' blog, and the fandom cheerfully egged him on (with many ideas of their own). WebGoblin "sanitized" the blog so that Mr. G would remain unspoiled till presentation day, and it seems to have been a great success.

Videos of Cabal being harrassed by RoboPanda are a must!

The Lovely Bengals look like they are hatching plots!

Yay for potential Bengal Homes! They've waited so long, and so have you. Yay also for Cabal feeling better-- though I hope his eating improves. Maybe he's just back to wishing the Alpha was there?

Sod is good, too. Nothing like a load of new sod. (/gardening blog)

I need to watch Chapter Two. I listened to the first chapter on the widget and just marvelled at the prose-- it's very careful, and elegant, and just a joy to listen to. Wow wow wow. I wish I could write like that. :)

A Stew Party sounds like my kind of shindig! I want to make a chicken stew this weekend.

Glad you are feeling better! Yay new websites! Yay good news! Yay everything! I'm happy on half a bottle of wine, so everything delights me at the moment.

If it makes you feel better, Jacqui, I haven't noticed anything around here but Friendly and Lovely and Teacups:

I think Cabal does miss the Alpha.

He did eat boiled chicken today, but not much....

Lorraine-what's important is that we save some. As for the armadillo it began as an anteater but due to time constraints(i.e. Boss coming back and potienally putting a stop to it) it became an armadillo. A six-banded armadillo to be precise.

Hey, Arwenn, have you tried the hard pomegranate lemonade yet? It's good. :)

Paw-paws grow in Texas, too. I think. IIRC, you definitely have to wait until they are ripe to eat them as they are poisonous before then.

HURRAY! A home for the fosters! That is such great news! Hurray for a healthy, rested Fablo!

I am just home from my book club. (We read Eleven Minutes -- Paulo Coelho -- has anyone here read that?)

A few of us broke off from the book discussion to watch the debate. We had fun. Someone had printed out these Debate Bingo pages where you checked off words and phrases used by the candidates -- hard to explain but fun.

We made up a drinking game -- just pretended to take shots every time either of them said the word "maverick". Good thing it was pretend or we'd have all been sleeping at the host's home!

(I am political, my politics are liberal. I can play nice and I also know when to just walk away from any discussion that makes me not want to play nice.)

I'd be happy to help with the web site if needed. I have some skilz -- but I do not think as many as either Dan or Val.

At 9:36 PM , Blogger ariandalen said...

Oh, yeah. You can't buy hard liquor after 9:00 PM in Texas (except in a bar), but I think you can buy beer and wine until 11:00 PM. I know that liquor stores close at 9:00 PM, but I think you can buy beer and wine at grocery and convenience stores until 11:00 PM. On Sundays, you can't buy alcohol before 12:00 PM (noon) in Texas. All of that is assuming that you live in a "wet" precinct.

At 9:51 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

WHAT! Paw paws grow everywhere??? Who knew....

Sounds like a way cool book club, Aleta, not sorry I missed the debate tho....

Lilacs do not grow in Texas; at least, not well and not in Central Texas. Persimmons do grow here as we have a persimmon tree that currently has at least six persimmons on it. Granted, they can't be eaten until after the first frost, which may not be until sometime in November. You can currently buy tomato plants to grow tomatoes. I've had roses blooming at Thanksgiving in the past.

At 10:06 PM , Blogger Dread Val said...

Wait… did I hear this right?

There is a place… where no alcohol is sold after 9 p.m.?!

*shudder*

I want you all to know, I can go out and buy alcohol until 2 a.m., and then resume buying at 6 a.m. I could walk down the hill to the grocery store or 7-11, and freely buy enough to drown a small army until 2 a.m., and then at 6 a.m., resume buying alcohol. Not that I need to, now that I'm done with grad school, but it's comforting to know that in the event I need it, it's there, for 20 hours of the day.

(Ah, grad school, where 80% of the writing MFA students were bartenders and classes were taught in the local pub. We had NO problem whatsoever with drinking in that program…)

So what happens when paw paws get shipped?

At 10:23 PM , Blogger ariandalen said...

Well, bars close at 1:00 or 2:00 AM, and they sell until an hour before closing, but you can't go buy a six pack of beer after 11:00 PM. You have to remember that Texas has a LOT of Southern Baptists and Methodists, as well as several fringe sects. Waco was dry until 1972, and there are still parts of Dallas that are dry. A lot of East Texas is dry, so there are places in Texas where you can't, legally, buy alcohol outside of a private club.

It would be nice to have a really cold winter this year in order to kill the bugs. The ticks and mosquitoes have been really bad the past couple of years.

wow, pawpaws are unusual looking - what does the tree look like I wonder? will have to google that. All I had ever seen in Illinois is the osage orange - which as far as I know are completely worthless, farmers used to plant them as windblocks. Alas I was too tired last night - 1/2 glass of wine zonked me out. humph, Thursday night ends my workweek so a bit of tipsy would have been nice. I don't know how late we can buy liquor here in michigan - i guess it would be 2 am, then 6 am except on sundays which is after 12 pm. we do have quite a few dry counties here yet.

At 6:23 AM , Blogger Phiala said...

According to my favorite authoritative source, pawpaws do grow in Texas, but only in the very eastern bit. That site has photos of the leaves too.

The fruit aren't poisonous, though like many unripe fruit they could give you a bellyache if you eat too many green ones. The seeds are poisonous. I didn't eat any. :)

Pennsylvania has the weirdest alcohol laws of any state I've lived in. You can buy up to two six-packs of beer at a bottle shop, which tend to be open late. But you _can't_ buy more than that unless you go to a beer distributor. There, they only sell beer by the case or keg, and close at 9 (I think) and aren't open on Sundays. If you want wine or liquor, you must go to a state store, and those do close at nine.

(Note to self: Close windows.)

Alcohal laws are strange, I do say. Mostly they make no sense. I think a certain amount of maybe they should be closed by the time the bars are is good., might cut down on REALLY drunk driving, but the rest seems silly.

I think harsher pentaties for drunk driving would be good too. Better and later public transport.

Ok, too much thought, too little tea. Lovely poem, Jess! How do you think that early in the day??? Soe ays I wish I liked coff, only in NY tho, weird, eh? Can't get enough, I'm talking deli-syle out of a pot coffeee....

I think I came out with that poem, Q, more by not thinking. :D Or not thinking about the fact that I was thinking. Semi-conscious unconsciousness? I dunno. Anyway, there's probably a lesson there somewhere, but heck if I know what it is.

New York seems like a coffee kind of place, doesn't it? I know they have tea houses there, but I think I would want coffee, too. I'm mainly a coffee drinker, though. Probably isn't good for me in the long run, but it's my only real vice (apart from yammering at people on the internet too much when I ought to be writing), and I'm sticking with it. :)

Glad you're better, Gayle! At least we know the computer virus doesn't last too long.

So glad the fosters found a home...or a home found them! YAY!

Oddly, dear hubby has the virus and he doesn't even join in the festivities here...maybe i was a silent carrier!

Love the comment-poem :)

My stomach and coffee don't like each other so i have one lovely little mocha about once every 2 weeks or so...made with excellent Recchiuti hot chocolate and hubby's home-roasted coffee from his fancy pants espresso maker. That hold me over for another couple of weeks. Tea and I get along quite well, my Earl Grey is steeping as we speak.

I get to see the Boss tomorrow and Sunday -- yay!

Another Foster Bengal, of course! The Jungle Loves leave at the end of the month, and as soon as another needs a home, I will take another.

Cabal seems happy today. He's running around in his orange cape, approving of the sod, ignoring the Panda. He's listening to Boss read, which he seems to like, tho he keeps running to the door...And he has brought in his meat to eat in the office, this might be an answer, play Boss and he will eat...

Glad you get to a show Chantrelle. Kitty tells me Boss told a cool story about me in the Q&A but won't tell me what...

I'm debating going to the reading on Monday… now mainly to see if Boss tells any stories about you. ;)

The "Endless Reflections: 20 Years of Sandman" show opens tomorrow night, too, for the other people in LA… anyone going? Stacy?

At 11:44 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

How did this Endless, 20 years of Sandman thing come about? I sure didn't hear about it!

No one tells me anything.....

I get recall notices from FDA and CPSC (signed up when the lead paint things started happening w/ kid toys)...anyway, i just got this one and thought, "What do blue cats taste like?"

--Tristar Food Wholesale Co Inc. Issues a Nationwide recall of Blue Cat Flavor Drink Because of Possible Health Risk--

Sue, Osage orange, aka bois d'arc, also makes a wonderful soft yellow dye for wool. I think the seeds (horse apples) were used, but I don't remember what mordant was used. Native Americans also made bows from the wood, which is yellow.

Phiala, after I posted I thought it might just be that pawpaws grow in East Texas. I was raised that East Texas was the part of Texas east of the Trinity River. I've had several arguments with my husband regarding that definition, but he was raised in El Paso. His definition of West Texas is west of the Pecos River. "Texas: It's a Whole Other Country." ;)

Blue Cat Flavor drink mix????

Might be something Cabal would be interested in.....

At 12:31 PM , Blogger Chantrelle said...

Too bad they put Melamine in the blue cats...or at least the blue-cat-flavoring.

Poor Cabal will never know.

At 12:39 PM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

Might be chocolate flavour.
There is a shop in Le Touquet, which is apparently famous and called "le chat bleu" making chocolates. Since a lot of Americans fought on the coasts of France, some of them might have brought this chcolate home with them.
Or maybe it really tastes like a blue cat. The mind boggles.

At 1:03 PM , Blogger Jess said...

Seems to me that a blue cat would taste of sadness rather than chocolate, which makes me wonder how they sell the drink in the first place. But perhaps it's not so much that the drink tastes of sad cats, or azure-tinted cats for that matter, but that the drink is coloured blue and tastes generally of cats-- in much the same way we say things taste of chicken. In which case, if you want to know how the drink tastes, it's merely a matter of finding a cat and licking it. See? Occam's Razor.

At 1:09 PM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

But chocolate is very good against sadness (especially plain dark chocolate or even better plain dark chocolate with red pepper in it)!
I suspect my cats taste of tuna, and of helpless tiny dead animals. Or of unfinished siestas and yawns in the making.

I refuse to drink anything from a cat. I don't care how excellent it's supposed to be.

Yeah. My book club can be fun.

I completely understand you being happy about not watching the debate, Lorraine.

Jess great found poem. Love it, love the whole idea, must try one.

Blue Cat Flavor Drink.

I think they serve that in that bar from Star Wars.

I just realized that I used the word fod in my lj post today. Hee. I wonder if anyone will point out my "error"!?

At 1:35 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Not sure I would have been up for trying it before it was known to be poisoned....Now? Still not sure...

But, beware, if someone offers you Blue Cat Drink...Do not drink the Blue Cat Drink...

chocolate is wonderful anywhere and anytime - and thanks arian - i never heard that about the osage orange before - when we were kids we would whip them at each other-kinda like orange dodge ball - fun on the farm:) . spacedlaw, your description of the flavor of your kitties made me laugh, tiny dead things.. my cat would taste of sour milk and yoghurt - her favorite food.

Mine would taste of my blood....

Jess, I love your found poem - I am going to have to go back through all the comments now to spot them all.

Q - any chance of some pictures of the Fosterlings before they go to their forever home?

Mmmm chocolate (I have some very dark mocha chocolate in the fridge. I think I shall have to go de-fridge it now....)

Woot! Very exciting - just heard my cousin Sarah had a baby! (makes me feel very old - I remember when she was born.) Must go research strange baby gifts....

I was just contemplating licking Tysie to see what a cat tastes like, but its spring here and she is molting madly...all I would get is a very very furry tongue.
Hey, all fiends going to hear Boss do a reading should yell out 'Fiends' or something similar in a quiet moment, then we'll all be aurally connected by the interwebs.

south carolina had the most obscure alcohol laws. first off bars couldn't pour alcohol, they have to use the shot bottles (aka airplane bottles) so any drink with more than one alcohol turned very expensive.

the liquor stores closed at 6 or 7 and were not open on sunday. all state approved liquor stores had to have red dots painted on the sides and on the signs.

i was all excited about seeing boss on tuesday, but i think i might not be able to now:( boy broke his car and i might be driving him around to work.
