Weird Plants, Red Hair and Our Sponsor...

First off, before we get to My Day At the Beauty Parlor, I was walking in my garden this morning, as one does in this part of the world, seeing what's shown up, or grown, or is still alive (Since our growing season is about three weeks long at the best of times) and this showed up!

I know it is some sort of Hen and Chick, and I do have Hens and Chicks, but never anything like THIS before. Notice the chicks growing off a pinwheel of purple spines. Looks suspiciously like some sort of Alien Flower, sent for a Purpose. I would not, wisely I think, point any fingers, but I do certainly Suspect something.

Of course, it doesn't have to be some sort of Evil sent by the Bengals Wasp League, it could just be something beautiful sent by Malena to make me happy.

Enough of that, onto the Beauty Parlor for my new hair, a process involving some hours and not a little money.

First off, meet Amy, my Personal Stylist. (ok, not just MINE, but the only one I go to.) I am sure she does other people as well, and would be happy to do hair for anyone in the Minneapolis St Paul Area. She has just bought her own salon, called Maude Salon. Besides her salon, there are several art galleries and studios, all very cool indeed. Visit her. She will like you. You will like her.

Amy is a one of us. (whomever we might be on any given day)

Let's get to work. This was MEANT to be the BEFORE shot of the poor bedraggled me going into the salon, but I kind of like it as well as the afters, anyway to set the mood...

First, all the hair must go....We don't want OLD hair now do we????

Cut to three hours later and Ah-ha! We have RED again. And Curls. If only I could make it LOOK like that! Thank you, Amy!

Now, a word from our Sponsor....

Hello everyone!! WUSSUP! This is the amazing Maddy Gaiman! Seeing as I am featured in one of Quiche's pictures she asked me to say a few words. First of all, she's fabulous. Not quite as much as me, but very much so. Reading her blog will bring bundles of pure joy to your day, no doubt about it. Also if you want to be happy just stare at my beautiful face in the picture she posted...and for those of you wondering, nope I definitely don't have an ego. ENJOY THIS WONDERFUL BLOG! Quiche is cool. Oh and Malena is pretty rockin' awesome too. Have a nice day!:)

Love and Red, Lorraine and Maddy

WiKiD GorJuS Hair Lorraine!!! Now what does that do remind me of... maybe Jessica Rabbit!!!

I suspect the plant is either of the genum aeonium or echevaria... but I couldn't decide which.

love the stylist's shirt

Hi, Maddy, nice to see you around here... you do have a great smile.... and what ego? (from the chick from see-eh-en-eh-dee-eh) ...eh.

(Yes, LITERALLY "cut to three hours later"!)

COOL. That looks perfect on you! I tend to be apprehensive when I hear that someone is going red, but you look truly lovely.

I would never dare to go red. Congratulations!

Mads is fun, isn't she?

I love the red, I would never had thought of it, but Malena told me to. It is always best to listen to her in such matters.

It's going to be fun for the show next weekend. Tho not perhaps with the red glasses and rhinestones...

July 6th I have 2 gigs. The first outdoors for a church. The second outdoors for a biker bar. It's really best to cover everything, and the music isn't any different, which gives one something to think about...

Very cool and interesting plant.

The hair looks great. Having someone you trust with your hair is such a good thing!

The last time I had my hair cut, the evil woman cut off 5 inches. (5 inches too many!)So, I envy you Miss Jessica Rabbit! I tried in college to go that red. Sadly, black hair like mine does NOT color well, at ALL. So, it's black for life.

I LOVE YOUR HAIR Lorraine.
And there is my little hair twin, Maddy. We have the same hair. It's big thick and waaaaaaaaahhh!

Glad to know my alien friend made it safe. I thought you'd like to wake up to that. At night it turns into a carnivorous lizard eating monster. (Just thought you'd want to know) Keep the cats inside!

Your hair does look beeyoutimous, Ms. Fabulous! Would you believe that I don't remember the last time I got my hair cut? I know it was more than 10 years ago. I still haven't gotten either of my daughters' hair cut, and they are 6 and 4.

Welcome, Mistress Maddy! I hope you are enjoying your summer, and continue to enjoy it. :)

Thanks!!! I do love it..It's like a uyyyycyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyybvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv compte change every 8 weeks, like switching rooms around.

(ok, that last was Madame Mim, apparently trying to get an e-mail out....)

(She's still watching)

Malena, what am I going to feed this thing??? We have no lizards!!!!!!

At 9:38 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Oh and Sue, THAT clears it up, hee-hee, why is it so different, with all those spikes, I mean, if we look at it as a PLANT..

Emily, one is troubled in this life more by the things one did not do, than by the things one did, but never ever try and die your own hair!! You will regret it....

I'll see if I can get some youthful photos scanned....

Lorraine I LOVE that color..it really suits you!
I just realized from your "before" picture that we have the same style of glasses. (Though I got the black frames instead of the red.) I had to have the ones with the rhinestones, of course.

Y'know you have a wide appeal when you can play a church AND a biker bar.;)

Nice to meet you Ms. Maddy We can always use more fabulousness around here.:)

Gorgeous hair indeed. I quite like the before picture too as well (great T-shirt on Amy too).
And Maddy is right: reading this blog does brighten my mornings, (even when there isn't a bright smile from Maddy, although we could certainly add some more of this last item: it wouldn't hurt).

My grand mother used to have weird alien plants like this growing on a derelict low wall in her garden. maybe she was a witch?

I love that you are playing the same music at church and a biker event...

the hair looks wonderful, color is spectacular! and I love her shirt, what a hoot! too bad i coudn't wear one as a teacher: "your art sucks, i can fix it", doesn't somehow translate as funny :) The church and biker gig sounds like an interesting mix - wonder which group will be more wild? Miss Maddy, nice to hear from you, hope you and all who are in public school are enjoying the beginning of summer break. Arian - can't believe you haven't cut yours or your daughters hair! cool, my hair doesn't grow much, so i envy all you long tressed lasses. If you ever have it cut, consider Locks of Love, where hair is donated to create wigs for cancer patients. Right now, a crowd of 21 yr old zombies are filtering into the house looking for nourishment. judging from the noise from the tent last night they had a VERY good time celebrating with their Beverages of Choice. uh, and dan, its going to rain again, could you fix??? (happy Father's Day to you and Paul!)

Goodness, does that mean we have to start calling you The Not-Quite-As-Fabulous-As-Maddy-Gaiman,-But-Still-Quite-Fabulous Lorraine? Bleh, too big a mouthful. How about if I just start calling you VaVaVoom-Wow-That-Red-Is-Amazing-On-You!

Seriously, that is a dangerous red that not just anyone can pull off, but WOW - just... wow. Gorgeous isn't a strong enough word for it.

At 9:52 AM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

Actually, red hair is how I recognized Lorraine at the airport...
She had already passed by but I saw this head of red glory and KNEW she had to be the one, even without seeing her face.

At 10:00 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Yes, it is RED!!!!!!!!! And that's actually Amy's apron thing she wears while doing hair, I love it! "You're Hair Suck, I can fix it!"

I am happy with it, I told Amy when we were consulting (yes, I have consults about my hair, leave me along, a girl needs some sort of social life) that I wanted RED again, the last one I was glad to have tried, but I was, well, kind of bored.

I think I am kind of extreme some times.

Am typing this at work so Mim does not send anymore messages.

At 10:05 AM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

Work?
Aren't you supposed to be gigging?
Oh. Hang on. The church going bikers are in July. And there was me worrying about you gettting wet...

At 10:42 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

No gigs this weekend, and it is a work day for Red here. NEXT weekend tho is the live Paul and Lorraine recording!

And no rain either!!! It is as lovely a day as one could hope for here.

At 11:05 AM , Blogger AletaMay said...

I think there may be a connection between the fact that you are writing from work so that Mim can not send messages and the fact that it is such a lovely day.

Gorgeous gorgeous color.

Hi there Maddy- yes, it -is- all about the hair, isn't it? (Just read Boss's blog entry).

Heh- hair consults are GOOD, you get all your mad ideas out there to see.

My Theresa- Hair Artist says she wants to take me from my current dark-and-platinum to that very red....with black tips.

Now that I see that red in all it's glory on that glorious head of yours...what th' heck. Bring it on!

At 4:03 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Red Hair and black tips? Sign me up!!!

And I do not want to know what the cats are saying....

At 4:05 PM , Blogger Rubius said...

I think I may be in trouble. When I woke up this morning I found a message typed into the comments box here (that I left open last night) ... but, without thinking, I deleted it. Obviously my cat LaMie was trying to send out a message to the Bengal-Voodoo Wasp Alliance... but ... and here is the creepy part... I think it was coordinates!

I've got peers left, right, and center coloring their hair, mostly pink or orange (both of which are riskier colors than red!).

~Emily

At 7:02 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

One never knows...

Pink is tricky. If you get someone good to do it tho, it can work. I used to have peacock hair, Malena called it, all sorts of colours.

At 9:06 PM , Blogger Bulfinch's Aglaia said...

Your hair is LOVELY! You look fabulous, of course. (I did red, lo these many years ago, and it was pretty but I was too lazy to keep it up. Also did jet flat black, purple streaks, all sorts of other coloured streaks, am now back to my basic brown -- with a few greys for that tinsely affect.) Sorry I'm late to the discussion; I moved this weekend and I'm beat down. The boxes have taken over my life . . . and I still need a belly rub. Where's Cabal when I need him??

At 9:24 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Cabel is currently chewing a nice meaty bone I just gave him, getting bone juice everywhere and drowning his sorrows at the Boss'es leaving...

I think the Bengals are on their own tonight.

Off to take all of the advice from the last week and watch Pan's Labyrinth.

At 9:41 PM , Blogger Hera said...

Yes gorgeous hair! and it glows so pretty in the sunshine ;)

I also learned the hard way not to dye my own.. I did blue..
Bleached it first.. but it didn't bleach very well so it was sort of bluey-greeny-grey (interesting..)

then I had it fixed at a salon and went to that fifth element orange color (which was lots of fun)then I tried myself again, a dark brown which ended up being fire-engine red! (also fun)

and yay to the neverwear blog!

At 9:42 PM , Blogger Hera said...

almost forgot.. there's a package in the post to you ;) !

At 10:15 PM , Blogger Rubius said...

I made strawberry-mango cobbler tonight and thought of you and your fabulous mermaid hair. thanks, btw, for the Ariel statue off your Disney princess birthday cake.

At 10:26 PM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

All these hair colours everywhere!
I am mighty glad that The Whispering Hairdresser likes my hair the way it is (i.e. with its white components doing the drag queen thing and refusing to be ignored - you have GOT to love hair with attitude).

At 12:22 AM , Blogger Dr. Wicked said...

I once did purple hair in college, I wanted an anime purple but my hair is so dark that even after I bleached it (a process which turned it violently orange) the purple dye just served to darken it again and it soon faded back into it's near-black dark brown.
Oh well.
Love the hair Lorraine, hope I'll get a chance to see it on Friday or Saturday in Stillwater. Going to 4th Street Fantasy but hopefully will be able to pop out that way afterward. Would love to be amid the rowdy pub background.
So many things this weekend! The Con, you and Paul recording, Can't Stop the Serenity at Riverview, gah!
Torn between the Browncoats and the Irish eyes and the writing minds!
I lay, my mind asunder, rent by joy.

Awesome hair, Lorraine! That shade of red really suits you; it's so vibrant. :)

Phiala and Aglaia -- Cabal's Cabal is everywhere beams of sunlight touch your skin; in gleefully chewing until you find bone juice; in fur ruffled from belly rubs, and everywhere there is a Mystery to be guarded.

Yea Hera! I'll watch for it, new music!

Dr Wicked, hope you do make it down, we'd love to see you.

Dan, I fear for the world if you and Mr Score end up hooking up...Sharon says she would love to see you too.

Cabal has had two play dates today, and now we have to leave for Dog School, where he will do fun things and eat chicken. He is getting over his sadness.....

At 3:10 PM , Blogger mistressmousey said...

*sigh* Hera, you're making me miss having fun dyed hair. I mean, extensions are great and I love them (currently sporting green and purple), but it's not quite the same as having blue hair. And you're right, blue is a pain in the backside to maintain. I did Leeloo-orange a few times, but it fries my hair. And the fire-engine red never stays that way for long. Nor does purple or green. hrmph

Okay, talking myself into liking my extensions again. :)

And Hera has new music? I wanna hear! :D

At 8:09 PM , Blogger Dan Guy said...

Though it fry your hair, those pics of you with Leeloo-orange are to die for.
