The Day Before Dan Guy Came....

It is probably best that today was not considerably exciting, as Dan Guy is coming tomorrow, and Cabal has Dog School and that ought to be enough excitement for anyone.

I took my bow to a new place for re-hairing (No, I do NOT need to hear from you Mr Score on how I have been meaning to do this for months, and have had two weeks since the last gig to take care of this, and am only now two days before the big show getting around to getting it done...)

The New Guy was extremely critical, and spent forever looking at my bow. Discussing it at great length the entire time, before he moved on, un-asked, to the state of my bridge, pick up and violin in general, not finding much he approved of him. Hmmph. Artists.

Obviously, I adore him. Man who can talk like that to me knows his stuff.

Spooky Daughter came and cleaned. Now, I am not adverse to cleaning my own house, I am just not very good at it. And there's that whole time thing. For some reason, she is amazing with Kitchens and Bathrooms. Like an art or a passion. The rest of the house looks good, but the Kitchen and Bathrooms...I am currently lying in the kitchen on the floor typing this, simply because it feels so good to be in there. (I can't blog from the bathroom, that would be weird, unless you were in the tub.)

And I sure don't want to give anything away here, but tomorrow IS the Birthday of a certain little dark haired Vampire friend of ours.....She is going to be mad at me when I tell her that her present form me is not ready yet, and won't be for a week, but I think I found something she is REALLY going to love. She will call me: BUZZARD!!! Which is what she says when I do things I should not that she loves....I would tell you all about it, but she IS the other half of this blog, and will likely be reading this, but let me be the first to say...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MALENA!!!!!!!

Love and such things,
Lorraine

Hooray for the occasional boring day! Not too many, as they would become, well, boring, but now and then they are the perfect anodyne to the excitement.

I need someone to clean my kitchen and bathrooms! My life hasn't had enough boring days lately, or at least days with enough time for those chores. Of course, even then I don't think my kitchen floor has ever been clean enough to lay on.

Happy Birthday, Malena!!! Though a June birthday just seems so wrong...

Wouldn't dream of mentioning it Lorraine. But at least I don't need to fear for my life by posting a blog on this comment stream. Yikes!

Can't believe it's only two days away. Wish I could make it out tomorrow, but Dad duties come first.

I suppose new strings might be in order for myself. Hmmmm... we shall see.

Oh yeah, it was a bit of a sad day for me as I had to bring my motorcycle into the shop on one of the most beautiful days we have had so far. Might be without it for a few days. Thus the withdrawal begins.

GEMINI baby. Two sides of the same coin. One side is soft, maternal and cuddley. The other is protective, intuitive and swift like a stealth bomber. Together, they make Malena. If I wasn't a Gemini I'd probably be a Scorpio.
Full Moon tomorrow people. make a wish for ME!
Love you all!

I will say, my kitchen floor does have a large carpet, so it is kind of nice...

Paul so sad for you! Get some strings, and we will think of you! (Danguy and Paul are determined to get me into loving Firefly..)

Just got back from taking Venus and Mim for a walk. Very different that taking the dog for a walk. You lose a little in the workout area, but it is a full time job otherwise. Very fun and they are getting good a it, we made it three driveways down.

Malena, I wish you all the magic there is.

Not sure anyone is actually ready for Dog School, but I am looking forward to seeing you, Dan Guy!

The present IS a good one. I put a lot of thought into such things.....

Happy Birthday, Malena! I can totally see that bright side of you. Even in your "scary" pictures, your eyes sparkle so sweetly! Have a wonderful day.

The sun's glow fades as I write to you,
our star gone on her long journey, beneath the globe,
that she may rise again tomorrow,
to shine upon you,
on your birthday.

Her light filters through the depths of the deepest oceans,
slides off the curved roofs and domes of Asia,
sinks into the sands of Arabia,
and slips through the cracks in the temple of Athena Parthenos.

She tiptoes silently across the expanse of the world,
that she may rise again,
spread her light upon the horizon,
strike the clouds from dusky to dawnlight,
to shine upon you
on your birthday.

I am to near sleeping to be overly clever....But I would combine Shakespeare and John Done and say..

We are such stuff as dreams are made on...

And....

GO and catch a falling star,
Get with child a mandrake root,
Tell me where all past years are,
Or who cleft the devil's foot,
Teach me to hear mermaids singing,
Or to keep off envy's stinging,
And find
What wind
Serves to advance an honest mind.

You go girl!!!

1) Happy Birthday Malena! (from a fellow Gemini)

2) The Moon.

3) Dan, if you turn Lorraine into a Firefly fan all of the weather stuff will be forgiven. (I think Safe and Our Mrs. Reynolds have music she might enjoy if nothing else.)

4) Ornery New Violin Guy sounds great!

Happy happy birthday to our Queen of Spooky;)
"If I wasn't a Gemini I'd probably be a Scorpio."
Methinks maybe you have a Scorpio moon or ascendant or venus?

Lorraine it sounds like you got a keeper in the New Guy.

And today has already become tomorrow (on this part of the world at least), so I 'll say it too: Happy Birthday, Malena!
And a full moon too? THAT is a great gift from Selene...

Re-hairing bow. I had some vision of you going back to your hair dresser and have it tinted red as well... Good thing you explained.

Dan guy-1?
This is goign to be so much good fun (how I wish I was there instead of being stuck in silly negotiations... Still. Silly negotiation pays the bills).

I wish I had a way with kitchens and bathrooms. It seems like a useful talent.

Perhaps there's a secret 'Way of the Kitchens and Bathrooms?' Some Zen-like art for keeping them clean without having to do anything?

At 4:28 AM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

Good point, Martin.
Maybe there are secret temples in the mountains of China where such secrets are learned? And the students there are a secret society and all. Haven't you noticed how people who are learned in such ways seem to understand each others? I swear: I think they are speaking in code, sometimes leaving strange messages behind "buy K.O." "Rag is off"...
Highly suspicious, that.

At 4:41 AM , Blogger Phiala said...

I have many esoteric skills, but the Way of the Kitchen and Bathroom seems to be beyond my abilities. Although I highly, highly recommend the stuff you spray in the shower after you use it... haven't cleaned the shower in I don't know how long, except for a quick wipe once in a while. Even with the liquid limestone that is my water.

Gemini, of course, but I'm not a big fan of sun-sign astrology. If I'm going to do it, it's far more interesting to go all out, and do a full horoscope using the Ptolemy-Sacrobosco-Alcabitius approach. I don't use any texts written after 1500. Lately, though, I've been doing geomancy rather than astrology (no, not feng shui), partly because I didn't know how to do it, but it's also much easier mathematically and considerably less time-consuming.

Lorraine and Malena, you have the most interesting blog. Where else can one go from household tips to medieval divination in one post, and it makes sense, and people may even not think that the commenter is totally insane???

At 7:57 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

It seems slightly unfair that you European types wake 8 hours earlier, and leave it to me to answer such deep and philosophical questions on my first cup of tea, but I'll have a go at it...

This IS truly, the blog about everything. I love it.

The Way of Kitchens and Bathrooms...There ought to be one, but I think one would have to go away for some years, and spend much time in deep meditation and learning, perhaps in a cave somewhere.

(Which would take care of the whole kitchen and bathroom problem, caves not really having them.)

(Tho we all know that Kitchens and Bathrooms get un-clean all on their own, whether you use them or not, so your own house would be toast by the time you got back..)

My personal method involves an ancient form of symbols on paper...It starts out "Pay to the order of..."

As far as medieval divination goes, my method is that I have caused what I like to call my Horroscope to pop up each day on Excite.com, so I know each day what the heck is going on.

There. Hee-hee. I am so very wise.

Now I need more tea.

At 8:00 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Oh, Great. Here is the Horrorscop for today:

You've been going full steam ahead for way too long, and the wear and tear could start to show today. So you need to reconsider what's on your plate -- and figure out which things you can put onto someone else's plate. Nothing is going to really help you relax until you are able to block out a big chunk of time -- enough time to let you forget about outside pressures. You have to let yourself get all the way to boredom before you will start to feel recharged.

Hmmm..good thing all I have to do this weekend is take care of a jet lagged Boss, host a houseguest and record a live cd over two nights...

Walk in the park....

At 8:20 AM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

Yet the message is clear: HOLIDAYS!
Take them.

At 10:06 AM , Blogger scored4life said...

Happy Birthday Malena!

Though you are far away your spirit touches us all and is reflected daily in the things we do. May you continue to illuminate our nights with beautiful darkness for years to come.

I vote for Dan taking care of jet lagged Boss and hosting himself while you watch Firefly while sitting in a bubble bath and then make a live CD.

May every moment be filled with happiness on your birthday, Ms. Marvelous!

I saw a book Monday that you, and others here, will want to check out: Anticraft: Knitting, Beading and Stitching for the Slightly Sinister by Renee Rigdon and Zabet Stewart published by North Light Books. It even has instructions for a duct tape corset in its pages, as well as instructions for knitting a two headed rat named Wilameena. It would be fun to have around even if you don't have any interest in making any of the projects. ;)

Thank you all for your birthday wishes. I wish we were all in the same place partying the night away eating salad with black olives and garbonzo beans, chicken piccata AND chocolate cheesecake!

In reality I am going to go swimming and kickboxing and then eat dinner with some friends.

The dog was school, delicious za was consumed, and we finished the first disc of Firefly!

Lorraine says that if we are very good and we finish our chores we may be able to watch more on Saturday afternoon.

Strangely, but wonderfully, to my great amazement and relief, watching tv with Lorraine and a large white dog feels like being home, of a sort. Relaxing, after the low-grade perpetual stress of travel.
