Is Winter Starting To Get To Me????

The New Year so far has been one thing I can tell you and that is Busy. Very busy.

( And Dark. And Grey. The sun has not shown here since before the Holidays and I am sure that I am going to come down with the seasonal illness, can't remember it's name but I think it's called something like " Get Me Out Of Here Before I Sink Into Despair Forever !!!! " )

Ah-hem, back to Busy. Lots of work type things going on and I have been working on songs for the next cd, never to early to think about them you know. Actually to be more accurate I have been THINKING about songs for the next cd while learning more Irish music and Melissa Etheridge songs on the guitar.

( that is I have been working until say FOUR each day which is when it gets DARK here, and all one's energy leaves )

Paul Score and I have our first show with just the two of us on Friday and Saturday this week, 7:30 to 11:30 at Charlie's Pub in Stillwater. We are getting together tonight to work on some new songs, and make sure we remember all the old ones. If you are in the Cities, folks, Stillwater is not that far away, about 45 minutes, and it is a really fun little pub.

( yes, I know it is hard to leave the house this time of year, haven't done it myself in days )

Our own Creature of the Night, Miss Malena has had company all week but I expect will be back here very soon. I have it on good authority she did get to the Haunted Mansion yesterday , and contrary to rumor, did not in fact , buy the place and set up housekeeping.

( If you remember the last online Tour Of The Teves Museum, you will remember there simply is not that much difference between where she is now, and the Haunted Mansion. This had to be pointed out to her several times before she could be persuaded to leave .)

( I myself am all for the Night and all the Lovely Things in it, but NEVER to be day and sunny and bright???? I am starting to think things like " Always Winter and Never Christmas...." )

I am off for a walk now

( no skiing the snow all melted. It is , I believe, raining. What fun )

and then back to work

( what else is there to do? )

and then off to band practice

( if I can stay awake )

Love and magic,
Lorraine

PS The preceding Winter Despair ought to be taken with some humor, I mean it IS after all January in the midwest, we need it!!!!!

We have had no sun either for days and days - the news is now counting to see if we break a record. How depressing and dreary and gray and damp and wet. I just found out my class filled and I will be teaching this semester which is a good thing, but also means no family vacation as my and my daughter's breaks are at different times. They will get to meet my husband in Florida. sob. I will be here. oh well. There's always tanning booths for light and warmth.

Cabin fever is one of the terms. The other is Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). I have it bad enough that I can take about 3 days of cloudiness with or without rain before I start getting depressed. This is why I know that living too much further north of where I am would be a bad thing for me, and I recognized it over 20 years ago.

Here, we just keep beating records for high temperature, with no rain in sight. Our grass fires haven't been nearly as bad as those on the Oklahoma/Texas border, which is something to be thankful for. The local grass fires have made for pretty sunsets though.

Nice Narnia quote... I used to love the books devotedly for years and years (I know it helped to start my fantasy reading frenzy which has yet to die)... trust a kid's lit course in University to make me see the Xtian side of LWW. sigh... it will never be quite the same for me again.

There is a benefit to living in the north - lovely long evenings in summer. Which are wonderful. We spent a holiday in the Highlands of Scotland once, and it was still light at 10pm. I would love to spend more time up there.

Which needs to be remembered at the moment, when it's dark at 3.30ish. Still! We have had the solstice, right? It can only get lighter from here.

(I've just reread The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and am feeling a longing for the sea full of light at the end...)

I've been reading the Narnia books to my girls for two years, off and on, one chapter at a time. A friend gave the oldest the all in one copy for her first birthday, so we started with _The Magician's Nephew_, which was the only one I hadn't read, and are now in the middle of _Prince Caspian_.

Granted, to get back to Narnia, the 2 year old (youngest) will have to quit asking for _The Wolves in the Walls_....

Seems like Malena should be in the dark mid-west and Lorraine should be in Sunny CA.

But I do have a suggestion...If you ever need some sunshine, consider coming to Panama City Beach. This place could use some good musice and some livening up.

I wish I didn't have to leave the house for days on end.
