Did Me A Show Tongiht!

Great gig tonight, really fun. It was like everyone there had a great time.

Ok, so that sentence wasn't exactly perfect, but I am tired, it HAS been a week. I know people generally have a great time at my shows, but, tonight, I think they had a REALLY great time. Felt the love. Music was good, but for some reason, my comedic timing was REALLY on, and I was on a roll.

Made it to sheep jokes in the second set, which is more impressive than it sounds.

The funny thing about the night was the amount of people there who said they had come in a year or so ago, and saw us, and come back, hoping we would be there again. I said that while I was pretty sure the Excel Center wasn't an up and coming event, they MIGHT want to come back a BIT more often..

They are all coming back for my Birthday Show, which, I am pleased to announce, is Friday the 13th February. (real B'day the 15th) We are having a PARTY! Attendance is mandatory for Twin Cities Fiends, and optional for those living far away.

For the far away, who can't make it, Dr Wicked is going to be Webcasting it live!

And, if all goes well, Fabulouslorraine.com will be going up and live during the show!

The show will be at Charlie's Pub, at the Water Street Inn in Stillwater MN. And it is a really cool hotel, if you feel like making a night of it. Consider yourself invited.

There will be cake. Oh yes.

Did I mention that Lojo Russo is confirmed and will be there adding to the Magic? Ah, the music.....More Guests TBA.....

Oh yes.

Last night I mentioned we would be playing there after the Coraline opening, but I was seriously confused, we are NOT there that night. I am playing with Big Johnnie on the 7th, at a place I will no doubt remember and blog soon, but Friday the 6th the theater is dark. Sorry for the confusion.

On another note, I notice I have over 40 followers on Twitter, despite the fact that all I have ever done there is sign up and see what it was. I think once I hit 100, I will start Tweeting. Just saying...

This past week has been the wildest ride going. I can't exactly explain what it feels like. I can't imagine what Boss is going thru, or Kitty, or what I will get back of them when they land here.

(did I mention the Tattooed Tornado will also be at the B'day show?)

It has been a ride. You can't know how many calls I have been taking or e-mails I answering, where in an hour, I am quoted and out there. Every word counts and had better be right.

One thing I was thinking about today, in all of this, was how so very cool all of you Fiends are. You talk about my Boss in terms of work, or writing and the movie, and perhaps his Dog, or Library, all the while maintaining a 100% respect for the man himself, and his privacy.

Rare, and appreciated, I assure you. And thank you.

Love and Rock,
Lorraine

Sheep jokes? lol

Sounds like the birthday is gonna be great! Still, hope you can get SOME rest between now and then. Once the movie is out will it slow down?

Slow down? Do you really thing so, Mistress? Such an idea....Don't believe it, but it is a nice idea...

Woodsman Hans is coming tomorrow to work and take care of Cabel, and spend the night so I get to be home at the Spooky House with Bengals.

Home, Gig, Home and then some seriously cool Horse Things on Sunday while he is there.

Very happy.

LOL I kind of figured that after a week like this one, the idea of slowing down must seem like a wistful dream, as fragile as a soap bubble. So maybe time to just enjoy the rollercoaster instead.:)

Oooo Cool Horse Things.

*yawns* I'm off to bed.
Night Fiends!

A great gig to top of the most amazing week, so pleased about that. I'm so looking forward to the webcast, its going to be fantastic to see and hear you and Paul live.
Watch out, Twitter is addictive. I was twitching when we lost power the other night because I didn't know what everyone was doing. Sad. Thank you Dread Val for introducing me to the addiction.

Enjoy your time at home with the Bengals and riding.

Hooray for comedic timing! But put me on the list of people saying "Sheep jokes?"

So, will your first tweet be to announce Follower #100?

Have a good time with home, Bengals, gigs and Cool Horse things.

I can hardly wait for the big birthday bash!

Yay for excellent gigs! Sounds a lot of fun - and selfishly I'm very happy that the birthday gigcast will be on 13th, as on 15th I shall be watching Coraline so might not have been able to watch. ;-))

Wish I could be there this February... Your music rocks and you are a true friend, uh I mean fiend... and I still wish to find a way out there next June.

Cat wait to see the webcasts ... and on my new computer no less!!! It has just finished being put together about 20 minutes ago (what terrible grammer I know!) and that explains why I am still up at 2:40am.

Night folks,

Incidently - missing sections from newspapers - my paper has been delivered this morning including all the sections except the actual news. so, if anything imprtant happens today, someone please tell me!

oh your birthday sounds grand! new website, a broadcast by the good dr. - should be wonderful. how is doggie feeling by the way? and hope magic hasn't bitten you again, a bit scary that. i know you have been beyond busy, but what a wonderful type of busy to be, i'm sure it feels great to be part of it all. there are still no advance tickets to coraline here, but i am hopeful that perhaps grand rapids might play it. we are getting a tiny break from arctic air today and tomorrow - actually going to be about 30, whoot! off to work i go, have a wonderful day all! This is it:

Q: What do you call a sheep tied to a lamppost in Cardiff?

A: A leisure centre.

G'night, folks! Drive safely! \o/

Yay par-tay! I shall have to celebrate from here, and I shall, because I did say I ws going to be Ready for the next webcast. I'm gonna have wine, and maybe a cookie. (People are still sending us Christmas cookies. Why??)

Hope everyone has a good Saturday.

That is all.

I would LOVE to go to the birthday party! And have cake. But there will be a webcast, and I can make my own cake. Not the same... Teleportation is needed.

Nick knows an excessively large number of sheep jokes. I suspect he could even keep up with Lorraine.

And, because I am procrastinating, I'll expound: Lorraine, your comments about the respect of the Fiends for your Boss (and you, though you didn't say that) were interesting. The current culture of star-stalking must make it very challenging to be someone famous, especially as that fame has suddenly gone from cult-following to mainstream in a BIG way. I can imagine what it's like, because I have a good imaginer, but I'm probably mostly wrong. I suspect that the Fiends share my general perspective: I think your Boss is a genius, and a surprisingly nice man, and would love to share good Scotch and good conversation with him, unlikely though it is. Despite the apparent intimacy developed by the Internet, I don't know him, and his private life beyond what he chooses to share with the world is none of my business. I think it's great that he and you share as much as you do - the play-by-play on winning a Newbery has been fascinating, but that's public persona, and not real life.

Completely changing the subject, I think I must buy some Poppets. I have none, you see, and this is sad. Plus, I have a Plan. It's just too bad that unpainted Poppets are not available.

I am, as always, quite full of Plans and quite short on Time. I so need stretchy time to go with my teleporter. Or a Patron. That would work well.

i agree phalia.
i have firm personal rules about people of fame. they have lives like me, and unless they are doing something inherently public like a concert, reading or a premier, i'm not going to bother them. i don't care if i'll never see them again. people have the right to grocery shop/drive/walk in the park with out being accosted and made to "perform" they don't own me anything due to their fame. i also cba to care about who they are shagging or not shagging anymore. it really shocks me the way people in la make a huge deal out of the stars. i haven't seen/noticed any, and i don't think i would unless they came up to me and said, "hey you may know me as blah on some famous show/movie." and even then i would probably give them an odd look.

also i'm a crap conversationalist, so i don't want to embarrass myself :)

Re: Boss - good to know the fiends come across as pretty well socialised! Seriously though, I think it's as Phiala and Vampi said - Boss's work is public, but home & family life is private, except to the extent that he choses to chat about it, and although it's easy to feel becasue of his blog etc. that I know him, the reality is I don't, and he certianly doesn't know me. I also have a fairly good imagination, and I would assume that if you have a life where you are in the public eye, you value your privacy even more at the times you're not 'on show'.

(Although Boss would be right up there at the top of my 'top 10 people I would like to sit next to at a dinner party' list! - )

OK. Back to the marmalade.

I share the previously views of public and private lives. To me it's a given. I would never pry into someone's personal life. I'm a very private person myself.

I'm happy that you have a place that you feel comfortable enough to relax, without feeling any pressure. That must be especially nice in these hectic times.

Like Phiala, I've enjoyed listening to the whirlwind that is the Newbery Award. Who knew? And your comments about movie launching have been quite eye opening.

But, I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I'm here because there are so many creative, smart, nice, original personalities here. You're helping me down my own path of growth. The fun stories about Boss are just fascinating anecdotes.

Celebrity is a weird thing, and if you think about it, most people have to be "on" in varying degrees. Most of the "famous" people I know are only well-known in certain circles, and there are a variety of circles. The fact that person A has been at my house would elicit fan-squees from one group and a "who?" from another.

Asking nosy personal questions is just rude, famous or not. Fiends are a polite bunch, it seems, not to mention fun and interesting. I was able to squee over a car yesterday w/Dread Val on FB... how cool! In my geographic location I have to curb my car enthusiasm because it tends to attract Scary Leering Guys.

DG - what's the matter? It's not cold enough for you in Lafayette? :P

Marjorie - I'm stardustgirl on Twitter. Anyone wanting to add me, feel free. I'm not terribly twittery at the moment but will likely be moreso when I have more modern tech toys.

Dan - Is Lori's b-day soon? You guys could roadtrip here and pick up all that snow you wanted... Hee hee heee...

Lorraine - more horse stories, please! It's something I know nothing of, and love hearing about.

I so agree with what everyone has said about the difference between 'knowing' someone who is a public figure (especially in this amazing interconnected web world) and truly knowing them...and being known.

I was thinking recently about how we represent ourselves in writing, on any internet space...thoughts begun by the fact that several of my patients are active on dating sites...and about my participation here, a relatively new thing for me to do. I'm so glad I don't have to describe myself, but can let who I am dribble out during the conversation, just the way I make friends in the real, 3D world. Public figures don't get that privilege. Not only are people pouncing on every word they say, but other people are talking ABOUT them all the time.

Long way to say, I'm so glad I'm not famous or newsworthy!

Morning - all. Lorraine, re your last comment (and I quote)
"You talk about my Boss in terms of work, or writing and the movie, and perhaps his Dog, or Library, all the while maintaining a 100% respect for the man himself, and his privacy."

That's because this place is about you. All about you. And about us. All about us. Brain-sniffers and lurkers. Artists and pencil pushers. Cheerleaders and Geeks (do we have any cheerleaders, other than the cheering we do for each other?). But mostly you.

Himself may have been the conduit for some of us getting here, but that's not why we stayed. We stayed for the pie. No, wait. That' another place. We stayed for the Quiche.

Hugs.

Morning-evening!

I have written "Paul & Lorraine Webcast" down on my calendar for the 13th. :D

Nodding in agreement with the expounding above, re: fame and privacy. And wish to add, that I'm sure I originally linked here via Boss' blog, re: about a book that is now one my favorite reads ever. I stayed for the conversation. I like what Rubius said last post,
We tend to bounce between food, pets, literature and the arts, and ... dead things here. I think that sums us up pretty nicely. :)

Hee hee - meanwhile my life, i.e. family, has been crashing in around me while I tried to type, and now see Siri's comment "we stayed for the Quiche." Sweetly put.

At 9:29 AM , Blogger Na said...

LOL and touche, Maureen.

I think, when the bubble bursts, when the realization comes, that any famous person is also someone's sibling/spouse/friend/neighbour, etc., we tend to value our own lives more, gossip and harangue others less. :)

Siri - thankyou, you're absolutely right. I wouldn't have found my way here if it weren't for Boss, but I wouldn't have stayed if it weren't for you, Quiche, and all the fiends.

(And if it wasn't for all the excitement *here* about Coraline I probably wouldn't have spent half this afternoon drilling holesin chocolate buttons, to make, well, chocolate Buttons, to decorate the Coraline Junket I am making (Finally tracked down that pesky rennet...). I draw the line at sorting through the sugar sprinkles to use only the blue ones, however.)

At 10:39 AM , Blogger AletaMay said...

Oh Siri! Very well said!

"We Stayed for the Quiche" is the best fiend slogan ever!

All this talk of what a creative, encouraging group the fiends are makes me think I need to get to work on my Night Garden piece again. (I am pretty good at wild interesting complicated ideas and not so good at Finishing Things.)

Others have said the things I would say about your boss. It would be lovely to sit next to him at a dinner party or share some good scotch. Of course. I admire him greatly and find the bits of him he chooses to share with the world fascinating.

But none of that is a central part of fiendom or the coming fiendocracy. This community is about so much more and so much other than that!

At 11:24 AM , Blogger Verity K Linden said...

I think it'd be logical that most people find their way here through your Boss in some convoluted form or another. The direct cause for me, for instance, was buying a Saucer print, in which Kitty put a lorraineamalena postcard (of you both looking rather smokey-eyed and foxy, I may add). As for why a collection of people with the threads of fangirlism webbing them together like so much otherworld spider silk are able to commune with a) each other and b) a publicly known close associate of said person on various things without it devolving into a slurry of "what colour are his socks?" or "tell him I love him" or "can I give you a copy of my new book and you can ask your boss what he thinks?", the reasons are various. First off, I get the impression your boss doesn't suffer as badly as some with that kind of fan - it seems a fairly mellow and empathetic 'fandom'. The other is, this is not a work blog of Quiche, Boss's Assistant. It's about you in the general, and the various interesting peeps that gather aboot (say I, as an observer.) It would take an astoundingly ignorant and rude person to try to use that as a channel to Celebrity A, and I think the horde of fiends would run them off the ranch pretty quick.

Noob-fiend questions, ahoy:

What's the night garden thing? I've seen in mentioned in passing a few times, once about Phoenix Labs scents and then hints of other creative things.

Fiend themed art collection or similar?

In other news, my red wine and beef stew is nearly finished with its 6 hours in the slow cooker, and I have apple crumble for afters. What excuse does YOUR day have for being great?

At 11:40 AM , Blogger Marjorie said...

Night garden - theme for stories, peoms, pictures etc - the idea started back in August - if you read the post and comments for 18th August it will all start to make sense. (Well, for certain definitions of sense)

My day - I've been making marmalade. The house smells beautifully orangey, and most of the kitchen is slightly sticky (not such a good thing, that, but c'est la vie)

At 11:43 AM , Blogger Siri said...

My house smells all fish-boily. I'm doing an experiment in shellfish. A few weekends ago, I developed a rash after eating crab bisque. Today, I'm trying shrimp (which I love; sorry Q) to see if I've developed an allergy to all shell fish, or just that soup in particular.

I'm trying not to feel itchy.

Surely preaching to the choir there, given Lorraine might even know the answer to that better than her Boss, opening the kinds of packages via Dreamhaven Books that might contain fanatically posted underwear.

Although wouldn’t it be kinda funny if people DID throw underwear at Q&As, like they do at Cliff Richard concerts.

I just think it's rude to think a fan deserves all the details of ones life just because said one is an artist. I was very surprised how open Boss is with his blog and about his work, whatever he sees as private deserves to be private, end of story.

As most of you, I found this place thru his association but stay cuz I have rarely seen or been allowed to be a member of a more positive, accepting and interesting group of people. Although I always worry for all of you when things are going bad, happy for your good fortune and appreciate the smiles you bring me during the day when I'm lurking, I don't often find the words to tell you all. Oh yeah, also thanks for the cat stories, the horsie pics the great concerts and just all of it. Well done by all. Jess - it doesn't sound like your feet were very happy!

It projects a warm feeling towards your feet and brings a little smile on your face,

LOL!! Their description cracks me up. My crazy dog projects a warm feeling toward my feet when he has an attack of submissive peeing. My feet don't get happy about it. :P

Beez - congrats on the new car!

Phiala - yes to poppets. I have but one, but he's friends with my Magic Rat.

Experiment was a success, at least I think it was a success. Shrimp haters may disagree. I am not allergic to shrimp.

However, I worried so about it I made my own stomach hurt. Brains are odd things, spicy or not.

(At first, brains were ood things, but that's just 'cause Dr. Who is on tonight.)

Sally - how are things in your neck of the woods? Cooler? Ant-less?

Talked to my sister in northern Cal today - she talked of their drought, and saving water while showers heat up to water plants, just like you. I'd melt snow and send it, if I thought it would do any good.

Cat - that's a real bummer about Drew and the crew losing the Sir Elton gig.

Jess - I can't wear toe socks because they kill me, so I can imagine your pain. It hurts when I use toe separators when I paint my toenails too.

Siri, it didn't even reach 30C/86F yesterday. Still hot in the house, but eventually made it down to 29 inside. Unfortunately its muggy now - expecting 35C/95F today and in the low 30's all week.
This is nice weather though. I managed to sleep well last night.
The ant attacks continued - last night they invade the kitchen and pantry, little f....ers.

At 6:33 PM , Blogger Siri said...

Bastards. The ants. Baby powder worked for me, but like you said somewhere, baby poweder on the toilet doesn't really work.

How do anteaters get along with dogs and cats?

At 6:41 PM , Blogger Dragonsally said...

I was just thinking, while reading Cat's blog that the reason we respect Boss's privacy is because he is so generous with his time. He gives, so we give back, if that makes sense.

At 6:43 PM , Blogger Dragonsally said...

last night we contemplated getting an Echidna.

The problems is the creepy things are coming in at head height on the walls. Hard for ant eaters or Echidnas to get them there. What we need is some Geckos.

Much surface spray was applied around the house last night.

At 6:43 PM , Blogger Siri said...

I think you are right, Sally. Speaking of which, did you see the picture on Boss's blog? It's of a roundtable of radio people. They all look so happy, because of the way Himself makes everyone feel when they are around him. Amazing.

Phiala, you happened upon the Dead Things ... how?

I too am a Feb 15th baby. Quite a bit older than you, but still....

Happy birthday a bit early!!

Jess--those don't look Happy OR Comfortable to me at all!!! I don't even like wearing my Japanese shoes (separated big toe), they just give fantastic traction and are very good for climbing.
Mom asked me about Yoga Toes (those plastic do hickies) and I'm thinking no....

Sally--seriously, can you get some Gecko or other lizard action going in your house? When we were able to protect the lizards from the "vector control" guys, they did a much better job at minimizing our obnoxious bug population than all the poisons and traps the VC guys wanted to use. All we had to do was provide them with a source of water (I'm not sure if they drank it or just soaked in it like a tub :))

SO looking forward to Friday after next......

Watching Dr. Who. creeping out......
I've not seen this one before; about choices and alternate timelines. Hold up, that's what they're ALL about!

:)

Was supposed to see a movie w/friends tonight. Cards instead. Don't feel like cards.

Dr. Who and Fiend-watch, instead.

Congrats on the great gig!

I agree with Phiala and all the rest.

Dr Who was crazy (hadn't seen it before). Yay to BBC America.

And spacedlaw - re: your twitter - Yup, I'm a fiend. (couldn't respond to you on twitter)

I'm late to the conversation per usual -- Maureen, I think I totally get the various circles of fame thing. Spending much of my life in Nashville is part of that. For example, 16 years ago, my sister-in-law had her senior art show and we have pictures of that day, one of which includes a completely geeky-looking Kenny Chesney wearning glasses, a purple shirt, and a black tie. My sister-in-law dated him a number of times, both back then and again for a while, breaking up about a month before he met Rene Zeilweiger (sp?). Oh, and he lives on the same rural road my parents do. Big whup. I hate country music. Okay, hate is a strong word. I don't much care for country music, so to me, Kenny Chesney is just a very rich guy who makes art of a kind that doesn't appeal to me. :-) I met Ben Folds long before he started the Ben Folds Five, lo these many years ago when his shows at local venues didn't come close to being full (he is very good friends with the parents of my godson). I waited on John Prine and his wife and son multiple times. My chiropractor was also Eddie George's, of the Tennessee Titans and the most Perfect Looking Man in the History of the World. It's kind of weird -- somehow, I have run across bunches of people who are celebrities to many but not always to me and vice versa.

Regarding Fablo's nice boss, he is very kind and caring and usually accessible to his fans. Bless. BUT. Fablo is Fablo and so much fun and so cool and caring and interesting and I can't even think of all of the appropriate words here, that I am here for her. It's wonderful to share even a sliver of her life. And you fiends, of course. :-)

And the webcasts and New Year's Eve! How could I forget those?!?!?!

At 8:39 PM , Blogger Stacy Hurt said...

bulfinch (Sharon?) I totally agree with you; I personally think Fablo is the best & her blog rocks. I'm so addicted. Boss is nice; but hey! No purple hair or Magic cats or Fiends of a feather!

We got it goin' ON!

OK, I'm off to watch Dr Who here (the one with Martha and Will Shakespear) and then to bed.

Night, Fiendom.

Martha, Daleks, the earth evidently going in multiple directions....

Yup, this'll be a Dr. Who to remember. Crossing over to Sarah Jane Chronicles?

The Stolen Earth is the episode title.....

And now I'm reassessing my whole hatred of country music. I revere a ton of the old stuff -- Hank Williams could just flat out write a song and turn a phrase. Johnny Cash is a voice for the ages, Eddy Arnold's "You Don't Know Me" is beyond great, and even Dolly Parton knows how to make with the heartbreaking words, plus she covered "Heaven Let Your Light Shine Down" and it was beautiful. And I love bluegrass, of which Bill Monroe is the KING. Come on, "Little Girl and the Dreadful Snake" is too much goodness for one song. But modern country? Uhmm, no, please sweet merciful heavens. Not for me.

Okay, it is SO time for me to go to bed. I'm ranting about country music, oh my gosh what is wrong with me?!

Hi Stacy, I am not Sharon, although in another universe maybe I could be and wouldn't I be the luckiest person ever? Here in this world, I am just plain old Grace.:-)

I finally, finally got Dr Who rented. Lo and behold, discovered I had seen some of these Series 1 episodes, and that the only Doctor I know thus far is Mr. Eccleston's.

Foof. I'd totally pass on the Happy Feet Socks things. I don't like nothin' twixt my toes but air. Or water. Maybe soil or moss. Sand. Okay, a few things, but not socks.

Not.

Well, it's almost midnight and I'm about a quarter of the way down the posts. If you want to read some inspired sheep silliness (with the Welsh, English, spaniels and Frenchmen and their cheeses) go to the Terry Pratchett Message Board, Sator Square, The Pointless Counting Game Part 2 and see what happens after the start of WW1.

Here's the URL, since I haven't gotten the hang of the linky thing:

http://www.terrypratchettbooks.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=006627;p=19

I laughed so hard at the whole leisure center plot. Speedo, for your info, is an English dad and the IT is a Welsh teenager. Back tomorrow to catch up with more than sheep.

BA--pretty much my thoughts exactly on country music.

and t'ain't no such thing as "just Grace"

Grace is necessary...grace is an honour...grace is light touches of beauty, the gilded icing on the cake of life.

Grace
is Amazing.

Just sayin'

SFMarty! Welcome and hurrah for us!!!!!!

lys, i actually thought that episode sucked. i think that for the most part, the show is so well written, i find it lazy to just pull everything together like that. it's like too much and lame. you don't need all of those characters and baddies to make a good episode. but meh.

awww, need a spice infusion :)

doh I knew that. Grace.

Lys; my favorite; Grace under fire.

:)

Welcome home Ms. Q; Hope the gig went well.

I need some of some happy feet socks.
Plus some Yoga Toes. Which I suspect wouls lead yet to more toe agony but good for me type of agony.

Sorry to read about the Elton gig, Kitty. This feels so idiotic, though. Who would fly a whole team in just to tell them they can go home? I hope the company can get damages (loss of potential work?). I totally like tattooed tiger. In fact, when I came back home from Lorraine's last year, I stopped in Amsterdam and took that picture thinking of you.

Gig didn't go well at all. No fun.

Love the picture Nathilie!

Kitty is certainly doing some work this week, we both are and beyond..

New post up, such as it is...
