Hera and The Fabulous Lorraine!

It is less than a week now until the Concert with Myself and Hera from Iceland! Next Sunday, in fact, March 11th at 7:00pm at Charlies Pub in the Water Street Inn, no cover.

HISTORIC WATER STREET INN
AT THE FOOT OF THE LIFT BRIDGE
101 WATER STREET SOUTH
STILLWATER, MN 55082
651.439.6000

The owners of the Water Street In, Chuck and Judy, are opening up the big room for us to play in. The pub is wonderful and cozy, but small-ish and Hera and I don't want anyone to be turned away for lack of space, so the big room it will be. And yes, Chuck is bringing out the tables so you will have somewhere to put your drinks!

Miss Kitty from La-la will be handling the Merch end of things, and those of you who have bought things from her at previous events know it is as much fun buying from her as it is owning the things you buy! Hera, and I, will be signing things too, if you would like, after the show.

I was thinking about my bands today and recalling First Gigs. The Flash Girls played our fourth gig about three months after we formed the band. We opened for a sold out Warren Zevon show in the main room at First Ave.

With Folk UnderGround we had been together six weeks when we opened for the Tim Malloys in the Main Room at First Ave. It was our first gig.

Malena and I formed Lorraine a' Malena, set up a website and blog, did a photo postcard, and decided on recording dates some three months BEFORE we MET. We spent a week together, where we met for the first time and then went into the studio and recorded MIRROR MIRROR. We then played our first gig a month later, with Garrison Keillor.

And now there is Hera. We meet Friday. Become a duo on Saturday. And play the gig on Sunday.

Come and see us. It's Hera's first time playing in the US . It's going to be a Very fine time. ( I.e. We're going to ROCK that House!!!!! )

( Malena would be rocking with us, for the record, if she wasn't making a movie, alas, now THAT show might well have changed the world forever more! )

Here , for you, is my version of the Cute-little-peeking photo, courtesy of Miss Kitty....

Love, Iceland, Music and Film,

Lorraine

What enchanting eyes that siren Hera has! And how on earth does she put those lines around her eyes? I can't even put on my eyeliner on straight! I wish so I could see you two perform, I just know you'll be magical! Break a leg!

where everything is music.
The strumming and the flute notes
rise into the atmosphere,
and even if the whole world's harp
should burn up, there will still be
hidden instruments playing." - Rumi

Dear Fabulous Lorraine:

I am a professional musician from Chicago. I have written a song based on Neil's Coraline, intending it to be on my upcoming first solo CD, which will be simply entitled, Simply Entitled. The song could not be a substitute for the work itself. Should I send you(and/or Neil) a copy? Would it be likely to cause any problems?

I can be reached on LJ as jcw_da_dmg.

Hi Dashingly,

I am not so good with Live Journal , so I'll reply here...

I don't think it will be a problem, we'd love to hear it. You can send things to me, or my Boss at Dreamhaven Books 912 W. Lake St Minneapolis MN 55408

I like your new avatar, Lorraine. It is cute. and I have been meaning to compliment Kitty on her avatar as well... Kitty's avatar reminds me of Arwen.... and so very chic.

wish I could be there... wish very much so

Alas, even if fares are cheap right now I won't be able to make it. My Sundays are busy from 7-9 PM with tribal belly dance, which I organized. Nor will I be able to catch Ms. Hera's show at SXSW as it is at 1 AM. I have a 5 year old and a 3 year old who like to get up at dawn, even if it will be later next week than it is this week :P.

Have I mentioned I hate Daylight Savings Time.

Devas! I am missing you both as I sit here with my machine gun. You must record the concert for me and all the LaMies. Seriously, you could put out a live EP. Cupcakes sound grand. I am eating lots of meat and beans to amp up my muscles, or lack there of. Hee hee I wish I were there. We'd go raid Legacy Chocolates for sure.
If you can't record the concert, call my phone and leave one of your musical messages!
LOVE YOUUUUUUUUUU! Now I'm off to shoot bad guys. THAT is just as fun as chocolate. BTW, your new avatar is fabulous! FABULOUS like you my little red riding hood.

Love the new avatar, Lorraine.

I am green with envy of those who will be there for this concert. Please please record it!

Oh, I wish I could be there. You've no idea how much I wish it... It's not the money, so much, as it's the time. But in my heart, I will be rocking the free winter wonderland with you!!

At 7:33 PM , Blogger ivenotime said...

Ha! Sure wish it could've been the weekend I was stranded up there! somehow not too eager to repeat the experience.. that would be so fun to get a bunch of us together, however, someday, someday....did i mention it was snowing? 5 inches so far. i am going mad. barking mad.

At 7:51 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Us too. Snow I mean. They said slight chance of snow , over by noon and it hasn't stopped. I am SO done with winter!!!!!

I would love to record this show, but I am not sure how to go about it. Any ideas?

( the idea I am looking for is for one of you to say " Sure, easy, I will show up and do it for you " )

I have listened to so much Hera this past week that I am starting to understand Icelandic. Not kidding , actually.

Sure do wish Malena wasn't shooting, and I sure do wish all of you could be there too!

perhaps the winter is on it's way out... I smelled a breath of spring in the air tonight... and there were flowers on the way to work this last week, snowdrops, crocuses, and deceptively-delicate-looking pink things that got covered in the last snow but seem to be fine now. maybe if I am smelling spring now it will soon be heading east to warm you all... after all it has been many weeks since the groundhog saw his shadow...

here's crossing my fingers someone will help tape the show.

At 10:38 PM , Blogger kali_licious said...

Unfortunately for me, I work on the weekends.

Stupid work! Gets in the way of all the fun stuff.:P

I'll be thinking of ya'll though.

(Heehee, Malena with a machine gun..now THERE's a thought.)

Would love to come, but...
It's not exactly an around the corner gig for me.
How's recording some for us and putting it up on the site ?
PLEASE ?

Again, would love to record it. Anyone in this are know how to go about it?

At 12:17 PM , Blogger ariandalen said...

Ms. Fabulous, the main thing is to get the concert on audio tape, video (digital or tape), or both. Getting it where the rest of us can see it is simply a matter of time and equipment. We really are a patient group. :)

I know that Walgreens and CVS pharmacies both have disposable digital video cameras. They only hold about 20 minutes or so each, and you have to take it back to the place you bought it from for processing to a DVD. For a two hour, or more, show that could get expensive. Just letting you know of an option.

As far as winter goes, we had that in January. You need to be in Texas, where the high temperatures are in the mid to low 70s this week. The red oaks and redbuds are blooming, as are my miniature daffodils. I need to start putting out feeders for the hummingbirds. Unfortunately, that also means the skunks are out of hibernation and into mating season. Hopefully they won't be right in front of my house this year.

At 3:30 PM , Blogger Malena said...

Mating skunks? Now that sounds fun. Both the mating and the skunks. I agree with our LaMies...record! IF I were there I would seduce the bar dude into using my digi camcorder.

At 5:03 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

The bar dude is not in charge of this show, I AM! It's me you would have to talk into it, and I have a feeling you wouldn't have to work very hard, hee-hee.....

Kitty is going to do a bit of vid and lots of pics, which is fine. She is doing the merch but has decided that Jodyth will help her with that so she can shoot things.

( we haven't actually mentioned this to Jodyth, but have high hopes she will agree! )

Still waiting for my audio recording fairy to show up....

At 5:31 PM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Just got a call from my Audio Fairy.

I love my life, when one asks, the universe provides. Now we are just waiting for Hera's ok, and if she is up for it, and it turns out nicely, you will all be able to hear the show!

At 8:24 PM , Blogger Yoga Gal said...

Dear Miss Fab, due to looking so damn hot with that straight red hair of yours I was inspired to play with my own imaged and blew dyed my auburn mane straight and today a my cute yoga teacher told me I looked like Emma Peele. I've been trying to catch his eye for weeks! Thanks Miss Fab for being my inspiration! So pleased that the faries are granting your wishes! Knock them dead this weekend! Namaste!
By the way did Kitty get her cup cakes?

At 6:26 AM , Blogger FabulousLorraine said...

Hera is way up for recording, but we make no promises about releasing it. We are both of the opinion that we need to hear the recording before we make any decisions about it's going out inot the world.

At 8:00 AM , Blogger Kitty Cat said...

what!?! no!! no cupcakes. not YET anyway.
but i have put my faith in Lorraine, and there will be cupcakes in my future. in fact, think i am getting paid in frosting.
as for Icelandic, when the Viking speaks to me in this language, it makes me melt. We will see Hera soon, and she can teach us more....
xo

At 9:04 AM , Blogger spacedlaw said...

Yepee !
I was sure that, with your connections, you HAD to know someone who could be charmed, seduced, coerced or otherwise bullied into providing the equipment and technical support to record the concert.
It will be great for your archives and if you - or Hera - have a problem with the whole of it being put on a server, an excerpt for your fans will still be most welcome.

of course we long-distance LaMies are hopeful to see/hear any recording you make... and if you are not comfortable with releasing it... then no problem. Thank you for thinking of us!!!! Hope you have a blast either way.

kitty I will make special cupcakes just for you if you happen to come to Vancouver!!! If you are nearby let me know.

actually... consider this an offer to make cupcakes for any LaMies who visit Vancouver... just let me know!!!

I didn't get the likeness thing off to you yet. I have an idea and haven't had time to get it together. And the idea is too good not to wait a few days.

Wonderful music endeavors. You must really feel good about it. And you should. I just wish Malena could participate more.

At 1:45 PM , Blogger ariandalen said...

No, Ms. Marvelous, mating skunks are not fun. They stink. Cars run over them, and they stink. You're minding your own business, watching a whatever is on TiVo/DVD/satellite when an odor enters the room. At first you think it's gas, but you live in an all electric house. The odor gets worse, and you realize it's skunks. In your front yard. Really close to the front porch. At least the wolf-dog knows to leave them alone.

Granted, he also didn't want to do anything more than bark at the full grown black sow that wandered through our front yard the night of Chinese New Year.

No. I'm not kidding.

See, Ms. Fabulous, all you had to do was ask. And of course, you would never need to bully anyone into doing this. :)
