Bengal Rescue
My two fostered Bengal girls are ready to find homes and go out into the world. If you know anyone who wants them (they come as a set) send me an email, or contact Great Lakes Bengal Rescue...
These are two, female, spayed and (sadly) de-clawed Kitties. One Spotted, one Marbled. I have had them for three months now, and they have changed from being scared, lonely cats who hid from people in terror, to being friendly, inquisitive, social girls. They need a quiet home, and someone who will have the time and patience to gain their love and trust.
The adoption fee will be significantly less than what is quoted on the GLBR website, as we do need to keep them together, and are looking for a very special home.
(if these won't work for you, please consider any of the other wonderful Kitties waiting for a home...)
Bengals are a hybrid cat, a cross between an Asian Leopard cat and an Egyptian Mau. The are considered a domestic cats, and are in no way dangerous. They are, however, a LOT of cat. Very, very smart. They love water, and many can be taught to walk on leashes. They will make you laugh for hours at a time, and are very social, tho not in general, lap cats.
They are almost hauntingly beautiful in person.
And if you win their hearts, they will love you, totally, forever.
My thanks, truly, to my Boss, who took the photos of the Ever in Motion Kitties, with a reluctant camera, and set up the slideshow for me.
Love and Kitties,
Lorraine

Nice photos gurrl!
No hits on the fliers yet? I will put the screws to my rescue friends. :)
Good luck!
Send everyone my way! Anyone you can, I am starting to get attached to these girls! Had one letter today, from the fliers, I need to answer....
Flier sent out again!
And, oh, yes, I still want to talk about this Project we are coming up with. I just had the offer of "help" today and took it like a shot.
Meaning I did nothing and Boss took the photos and made the slideshow, many many thanks to Boss!
Let me know too, if anyone wants pictures to send people, I can e-mail shots...
oh yeah, wow, that is a cool slideshow, very impressive! the cats are beauties, and I hope you find homes for them soon. I can't wait to get started on our project, will be great fun, the more the merrier. val, hope your bruises are healing, and your unpacking goes well - your new space sounds great, and i am sure you will enjoy it thoroughly once you get settled, and i look forward to seeing your new piece. when i moved to michigan, the best thing was the garage. hands down, after years of onstreet parking. i still love pulling into it (such small things make me SO dang happy) and i would be happy to help you drink if you need assistance :) anything to not do accounting. which i did most of today. yesterday i was truly going to do it, but i luckily found other chores more pressing that needed doing ;) and since i am not done i have much to do tomorrow as due dates are approaching (FABLO!! quick give me ideas on projects!! i need a stall!) haha, (oh and rubius, would love to see some of the stained glass you're working on, such a beautiful art form)
very nice Kitties Fablo. very unique markings too. I'll bet you will miss them.
I'd happily contribute toward adoption fees if you can find a good family for these cats who just can't find the money to adopt them.
Do they need to be adopted locally? I am in the New York area. Also, do they need to be adopted together, or can they be adopted separately?
Oh, Sue, still accounts ??? How horrid! I am excited about our project too, still , it needs form. I love the idea, that we can take one idea, or art form, and see what expands from it, in all the various ways that we all do art, or science or whatever we do.
Kind of like all the ways we see and find and love Fod.
Or the world.
Or art.
Or what gives us joy.
Yes, Malena, I will miss these Bengals, but, I took them as they were in a horrid situation, and promised to find them a good home. I can't save every Kitty, I don't have those means, but I can help these two, who would have had no life if I had not.
I can find them someone who will love them. And they will have joy.
And then I will find another. We all do what we can. And if everyone did, what sort of world might this be?
Hi Bob and Penmage! My thanks!
Bob, your support would be very welcome, it costs SO much to rescue these kitties, and anything anyone wants to help with, we would be so very grateful . I've written to the head of GLBR and asked what the best way to help is, but contributing to Ginger and Sabrinas adoption is a great idea.
Recently we rescued SEVEN Bengals who were basically living in a litter box basement, a "breeding" facility.
All needed vet care, shots and spay/nueter. Anyone wanting to help in any amount, any way, is so needed.
Penmage, they do need to be adopted together, they are all eachother has, and have been together since birth. I would like it of they could be adopted locally, to spare them the trip, but am certainly willing to consider traveling with them.
Oooooh...! Someone declawed them? *is horrified*
Sorry, here from elisem - I am a bengal owner/lover (they are the ONLY type of cat my non-cat person husband actually adores as much as I do), and I am just, wow, shocked and appalled that someone would treat these beautiful, loving cats so. Our Julius is always so very careful with his claws. He and our husky/lab have been together since puppy/kitten-hood, and their play often looks rough, but really isn't. He has never, ever used his claws, unless he felt threatened (once by a friend's dog who would not stop barking at him.)
Some friends of ours recently adopted another bengal kitty from the same people we got Julius from, and Xena even as a young kitten is also very careful and gentle with her paws. I held her up to my face and she batted at my cheeks playfully with her claws sheathed. It was so precious.
I hope you find a good, loving home for these beautiful girls. They are striking examples of this stunning breed.
My thanks, Rhienellth, and welcome! Yes, de-clawed them at nearly TWO and then brought them to live in a hotel room...No wonder they retreated, which is what they will do if they don't feel secure.
Bengals are truly a wonderful breed. So much more than cats, more like living with another family member.
So many people get these cats and don't know what they are. They think "cute little kitties with spots and stripes" and then realize how much more they are.
Or they think to make a quick buck as kittens , non show start at $600.
My own Bengal, Freaky Venus, was from such a breeder. My second, Madame Mim was from a responsible breeder who raised kittens as part of the family. The difference is vast, tho I love them both.
Had I known about all the Bengals in rescue, I would have adopted. Only found out after the fact.

SUCH gorgeous kitty girls! Too funny about the blurry, always-in-motion pics. I can just imagine what life with them is like. If I were closer to you I'd be looking to take them home myself!
All of our animals over the past dozen years (or more) have been waifs, strays and rescues of one sort or another. Alas, at present, we are down to just one dog and one cat and both are just too darn old to accept newcomers with ease. Martybones the Cat came to us as a kitten that some unknown person had shaved completely. Fur. Whiskers. All of it gone. He's a gorgeous animal but as a shaved kitten he was arrestingly ugly. A far cry from the kind of cute kitty the average person is looking for. So we took him.
Now he's an amputee but that's a different story for a different time (the lives this cat has run through!)
At any rate, Lorraine, rescuing these girls is further proof your Fabulous status is untouchable. Also, put me down as another who would be happy to contribute to the Ginger and Sabrina Adoption Fund.
Here's to Sabrina and Ginger finding the right home and people to love them!
The bengals are SO CUTE.
And unfortunately I live in a 420 sq ft apartment. Was nice of Boss to not only take pictures but to put them on his blog too. Someone's gonna be lucky to get these babies.
Ivenotime due dates are evil. I'm sure we can think of something to distract you if you want;).
Pantagruel: Moving is done, yay! Now to the fun part - deciding where everything will go. Hope the bruises are fading.
I read neil's plug about the cats on his blog and instantly forwarded the link to your blog to a professor i know who adores bengals (even has a webpage about them). I hope that if he can't give them a good home that he will certainly know someone who can. Best of luck, they are beautiful!
I read about your kitties in Neil's blog!
I am mama to two Abyssinians (which have a lot in common with Bengals). Alas, I don;t think I can't handle more than two cats in my home (I am already on that slippery slope heading toward crazy cat lady) but I will do my best to spread the word.
Question: would you consider letting someone out of state adopt them?
I wonder if Bengals get along well with Maine Coons - I have a male MC who is smart, loves water, is too smart for his own good, and is his own little "person" - also not your usual house cat. Just wondering.... or the two breeds might get along "too" well and find a way to blow up the planet. Never discount that.
The Bengal-Bee Alliance would like their latest members placed somewhere in the vicinity of a power plant or radio broadcast facility. Both would be preFURable. You may now return to your BZZZZness.
First off, Janet Saltzman , president of the GLBR, says THANK YOU so very much, and says that donations can be sent , via pay pal, to:
donate@greatlakesbengalrescue.com
You can also mail a check. And I say THANK YOU! Truly!
A small place would not be a bad thing at all for these Kitties. They need to feel secure. Right now they are living in an empty bedroom, one room. The size of your place doesn't matter, what matters to them is love.
Lindsey, thank you!!!!!!! Feel free to tell anyone you can think of and give them my e-mail. Would love t see this Bengal Webpage to, if you have a link?
Hello, Jewalweed, These guys need to be only cats, I don't think they would do well with others, your sound lovely tho, I know that breed.
I would consider someone out of state, and would be willing to perhaps drive half way and meet them.
Anon, it's possible they would get along. And just as possible they WOULD blow up the planet. I would suggest looking at the GLBR page and seeing if there is a Single Guy Kitty there who gets along with others. Maine Coon and a Bengal, your life would NOT be dull!
Danguy...Hee-hee...You and Anon should get together...
they are gorgeous, we introduced two rescue cats from the RSPCA to our home on sunday and they certainly make it feel more complete.
Thanks Hagelrat! And congrads on your new friends! They will, truly make your home complete...
Hi, another "saw you from Mr. Gaiman's mention"er here. Sorry about the comment, but I couldn't find your email address (probably my bad). I live in Michigan, in a large home with one other cat, a declawed, rescued Maine Coon. My family is very much "cat people" and those are beautiful animals...I've never had bengals, but I've heard a lot of wonderful things about them. If they still need a home and we sound like a possibility, I'd love to talk more about the details--? Either way though, thank you for your kindness and generosity in fostering such marvelous animals.
Hi Puredoxyk, and welcome.
I would love to talk about this with you. And if these aren't the right kitties, there are Bengals in need of rescue in Michigan, who I am sure you would love!
you ( or anyone else ) can e-mail me at :
Fabulouslorraine@gmail.com
I really hope things work out and they find a home. I think you'll miss them ....
~Emily
I will miss them, but they can't stay with me, they need a home! And someone who will love them...

Arrrgghhh!!!!!!
Rats. I have ben foiled. Darn Bees.
I have to take the Honey to the Fair tonight, and we went to GET the comb honey and the STUPID Bees had not MADE any in what are called "Rounds"
They made plenty on the Frames, that's where one scrapes it off, extracts it, and has honey and Slumgum (Sure do like that word) remember?
But in the nice rounds, and comb honey things, where you can cut out a lovely comb...
Nothing.
I seem to be having a fair amount of trouble figuring out what a pint is too.
What a day. And I still have my Fosters....
You know.. this might be considered a bee-coup. It is their protest... as Danth said... they want their honey back.
I wish I could have them ;) but I have 4 cats already. My daughter keeps bringing them home.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/26315223@N03/2680762275/in/set-72157606249279507/
is the latest name Kitty Face. ;) My daughter named her. The other names are, Oscar, Monty and Gingersnap ;)
the NPR stoy about E.B. White is here if I have managed to link to it. Giving it a go now.
Hey it actually works! Amazing. I think the key for those of us who have had trouble linking is to have 3 or 4 Prosecco and Mango juice cocktails first! Worked wonders for me.
3 parts Prosecco to 1 part good quality mango juice (such as Naked or other "natural" brand). Yum!
Welcome, Castleart, Kitty Face is WAY too cute!!!!!! What an angel, thanks for sharing!
Thanks Gayle for the link, I will listen tomorrow with morning tea. Perfect.
I think they might just want it back....They aren't getting it tho. HA! Why am I nervous about this Honey thing?????
Can't wait for the weekend, back to the nice safe stress-free life of a Folk-rock Star...And I am not kidding when I say it is WAY easier and less scary being on stage all night, than it is entering ones honey in the Fair.
Go ahead! Be a mad cat lady. I am one, can't help it. If a cat needs a home, I take it in. I just got my fourth, and even though I swore I would find it a home other than my own, I'm not trying very hard. :)
Hee-hee, the world needs more crazy cat ladies!
I can't keep them, Venus would not HEAR of it/ And she would be un-happy.
The bees know, somehow, that you're a member of Cabal's Cabal, and are trying to thwart you. Why are you nervous about entering the honey in the fair? It'll be okay. It can't be any worse than linking. :)
Speaking of honey, I can't find where I packed mine. How am I supposed to drink coffee, now? This is a Crisis.
In moving news: Some of the bruises are fading, but I keep acquiring new ones on top of the old ones every time I lift something. I might have to buy stock in arnica gel. Dog and Cat are safely moved into the new place, and survived their first full day here with me at Saltmine U.
I sure don't know why I am nervous. Hmmph.
And wasn't I in the Bengal Bee Alliance? I get confused..
Val, glad to hear you and the Creatures are all moved in, the bruises will fade. Are you liking it??? I will send you some honey for your coffee if you give me your address. We cant have that...
I got lots. I steal from Bees you know.
And oh, the judging is tomorrow, expect a full report and wish me luck!!!!
Ooh, thanks! I'll email you my new address. :)
I thought you were in Cabal's Cabal, as you were on the side of belly rubs. And, he listens to you. Though, if you're in the Voodoo Wasp Zombie Bee Bengal Alliance... that would be very bad for the Cabal's plots. ;) On the other hand, you're stealing from the Bees! Dude, you have to be part of Cabal's Cabal if you're stealing from them! ;)
I will send you good thoughts while the honey is being judged tomorrow!
And yes... the Project.
I may be working on my own agenda too....Who can say????
Yes, we will get back to the Project. What are we going to do? I haven't been hearing ideas.....
Ah... well if you are looking for a project... I have been tossing around the idea of a LaM web-comic (actually far before this collaboration thing was mentioned) I thought that the antics we hear about on the blog would make a great serial (to quote from Dan writing over on Malena's blog) but I am over-extended right now and while I wanted that to be the first "project" I worked on with my new drawing pad... I have been coming up with blanks... and I am lacking some confidence in myself to complete the project... so... it sounds like I need a collaborator.... or many.
I thought there could be a main plotline about our Uber-cool Ultra-stealth Princess of No "Quiche" and the Hi-Jinx she gets into as PA to a bee-keeping rock-star writer.... and her Fashionista Vampiric Medium Actress band-mate "Nocturna" who would fly (as a bat, silly) in at a moment's notice to dork out and somehow save the day.
Of course in turn our Princess of No would show up just in the nick of time to save her Gothic Statue of Liberty best friend with her wit and wisdom and mean fiddlin' powers (whenever necessary as we know that our Quiche has 'special powers' over the airplane companies).
There would be a subplot involving the Cabal Cabal and the Bee Bengal Alliance (formerly the Voodoo Zombie Wasp Bee Bengal Alliance, formerly the Voodoo Wasp-Bengal-REanimated Bee Alliance, formerly the Voodoo Wasp-Bengal-Bee Alliance) ... and the renegade Voodoo Zombie Wasps of course.
Danth the Mad Scientist would be on the side of good, but somehow would still end up building incredible machines that would ALMOST destroy the world when the Renegade Voodoo Wasps managed to get their antenae on them. I suspect Danth would save the day regularly with his brilliant tech skilz.
The great thing is we could use lines from the blog like this one by Danth which had me in hysterics:
So, uhm, heh heh, funny thing about that orbital weather control satellite business.... It's raining so hard that I can't seem to establish an uplink to shut it off...
Bit of a design flaw there. Could have happened to any evil genius, right? Uhm, right?!
I'm flying in Sunday with a bucket to help bail.
I keep thinking back to MegaTokyo which is one of my all-time fav webcomics and thinking that this blog would lend itself to that.... but I clearly need help in the realization.
What do you think Lorraine? Malena? Would you even want to see something like that?
btw.. I got a TREE!!!!! I'm so happy (I hope it lives). My big tree was cut down last November and the other tree was cut down a few months ago... so I was treeless until I found a tree sitting on the side of the road, propped up against a tree. I thought it might be someone's project and I left it for 4 days... but no one had claimed it and I figured that if someone didn't take care of it soon (especially in this heat) it wouldn't make it. So I took it home. I don't know if it will make it... but it is a lovely Yew.
post to the bengal cat forums also
all manner of bengal lovers lurk in there
http://www.bengalcatforums.com/forums/
(i haven't read all the comments - apologies if it's all ready mentioned, congrats if the kitties have a new home!)
They are so cute. I hope they will find a home soon.
I was very impressed with your skills at putting together that slide show (until I read until the end of the post) and then I realised that Neil did not want you to become a crazy cat lady. But I thought you wanted to become one?
Actually, if I had not already four silly cats, I'd love to have them (on the condition that you accompany them, OF COURSE).
GREAT idea, Rubius.
Thanks, Grantmr and welcome! No, I didn't know about that page. I'll go and check it out.
THANK YOU for your support, everyone, and many thanks to the people who have offered to adopt, Spacelaw I would place them with you in a second, but Italy might be a bit too much travel...But yes, I would bring them myself!
I am writing with a few folks and will keep you all updated.
Tonight I will tell the Saga of the fair, the honey is there, and the judging is in a few hours....
Rubius, sounds like you already have this written! I need to go back and read Sue's original comments as there is something niggling in the back f m head, that I wanted us to explore...
actually writing is the problem. I am not sure how to put pen to paper on this one.
I'm so there! Let's workshop.
Dear Lorraine,
I'm in love with them already! Ginger reminds me of my own Isis, "best cat ever", whom I lost 3 years ago.
But I'm in Belgium which is way to far...
I'll pass it on to cat-loving friends who live a bit closer.
Good luck! I hope you'll find wonderful new owners!
Kristien
Hi Artemissne, She is a sweet cat, but you're right, Belgium is a little far....Thanks for passing it on.
Ideally the best place would be 1-2 hours from Minneapolis/St Paul Minnesota.
Gaypet... thanks for the link to the NPR EB White thingy. Much enjoyed.
I really wanted to do the LaM Comic as a 'teach me to make comix' project and as a surprise for you guys but this is more fun... and clearly I need the help of the talented writers and artists here.
Hiya :)
I just fostered a gorgeous Bengal kitteh called Kushie - she's such an amazing cat. I wish I could take them, but I'm WAAAAY out of your catchment area (UK ;))
I WILL however, post to my blog, cause I've got lots of American freinds that could probably/possibly help. And if there's any way for me to send a donation, please let me know.
Hi Kai, nice to meet another fosterer, and Bengal lover! Thanks for passing us along...
Donations can be sent to :
donate@greatlakesbengalrescue.com
If you, or anyone else, wants to send something, the fund would be truly greatful!
I almost had a space when Kitty Face got her head stuck between the spindles of a chair the other night ;P She bit me a few times but we got her out and she apologized by purring on my lap the rest of the evening. ;)
My finger still hurts though :P
Oh no! Poor Kitty face! I am glad she is ok, but still need a home for my girls! If you are close to me and think Kitty face would take to two others, let me know...
This comment has been removed by the author.
I would love to have them. :) but the place I'm living (my parents until I start selling my art and making my art business work) they might actually kill me if I bring home any more pets. ;)
are the cats still available ... please let me know my email is bruce7604@aol.com
