Spiderific Divas

I just Hhhhaaaaddd to post this webbed photo of our friend Nora. She airbrushed the shirt and the tights herself. Oh, yes! We have another craft diva in our midst. (Many I assume.)

As a child, I made all kinds of things on the sewing machine. I made my dolls everything from beds to houses to corsets...and little thigh high boots! Yes, even back in 1978 I was a goth. When my daughter was born, I made all her baby dresses. (Our dog Stanzi wears them now.)Now I know we are such a crafty bunch, I'll post more of my designs, etc. You should too everyone. There's plenty of room on my forum for crafty patterns and how to discussions. Now, I'm off to finish that black and white pin-striped mermaid skirt!
Hey Nora, let me in on your airbrush secret. I can always steal Miles' out of the studio. Mwwwwwwwww aaaa ha ha haaaa!
Love,
Your Domestic Dead Diva

Malena, you amaze me.
go on, mistress domestic livewire----*
saw miss Mimi for a coffee/lunchy in my neighborhood & we looked at some of her new/old photos, all inspiration to do a show with her!
now back to sewing, it is a talent you naturally possess or you really wade painfully through. i am the wader.
but the feeling of accomplishment is dreamy.
The airbrush work of Nora is gorgeous. more inspiration! now me out to do laundry as my washer just keeled over, probably in sympathy for grampa munster no doubt. RIP Al Lewis!

Kitty
I've always been a sewing freak. Partly because I couldn't afford the high end gowns I wanted when I was young...so I made them. (Barbie Doll clothes to match of course) I'd cut out magazine photos and make patterns with paper grocery bags. Hee hee
Now I use butcher paper.
When you come over, we could make you a shirt. Something simple like a shirt or a skirt can be done, start to finish in about an hour. I've been collecting fabrics, leather and fur for a while now. I've got lots of cool stuff. I'll hook you up babe'! Kitty meets Barbarella! Photo op miss thing! wehooooooooooo

Miss Kitty, the icon/photo...
do you know how to upload a pic to a website? You have to put a pic somewhere on the web, then you go into your blogger profile and there will be a place for a URL to the pic. Then you update your profile.

If you don't know how to upload a pic to the web, you may email me a pic and I'll send you a URL.

Okay, you want the secret to airbrushing tights? i airbrushed the shirt flat, but couldn't do the tights the same way. i needed a model. Sooooooo, since Daecabhir (yes that's my hubby, hehe) made mention of it already.....

oh and THANK YOU everyone for the compliments, you are all too kind!

Hee hee daecabhir, you are such a good "mannequin"! Seriously tho, that outfit is just great - really really cool Ravyn! I've never tried an airbrush - do you need special textile inks for fabric? It sure didn't appear to bleed at all. Does it wash well? I will have to see if I can navigate the avatar instructions myself, and try to not have to rely on my kids. Hope all are having a great weekend!

oh right--- DUH!

i forgot to say, i used india ink in the airbrush. It's permanent and wears well. i airbrushed the shirt in 1989 (!!!), and the tights in 2003.

i actually wore the costume, with shorts instead of a skirt, in a costume class in the last horse show i rode in before breaking my leg. Unfortunately, i don't have any photos of that costume. (there may be video though)

i rode a black percheron/thoroughbred cross mare bareback - i took that thin spiderwebbing stuff and stretched it across her neck and back. i made a huge spider out of pipe cleaners and attached it to the top of my helmet. i rode with a young girl behind me, she was wearing black and we put spiderwebbing on her too. We had a blast!

Aww Ravyn, that's really love, when your hubby is willing to wear tights so you can airbrush 'em.!:)

I'd *love* to see the costume class video if you find it. It sounds so pretty. And you must've had a very patient horse to be able to take "spiderwebbing" without twitching it off.

very cool process. I would love to see pics of the horses if there are any... I work in a horse & carriage company and we have percherons, belgians, clydesdales, and even a shire (not that we ride them) that description of yours is great but I would love to see it

Tuaregblue, i'll look for the costume class video.... in the meantime, i have a bit of, well, off-color commentary on one of the other classes on video on my web site. The hubby was manning the video camera, but you can hear him talking to our photographer (i have an equine photography business) while the class is going on.

Lilly, the perch cross i rode in the costume class, is the first horse you see on the video. The video is a large file, 29MB, and it's here: Horse Show Outtake

Also... rubius, i have a "baby" of my own, a black percheron filly, who will be 3 years old in May. i've been using my personal blog to chronicle her growing up, (though i use it for other things too), but there are some photos from the summer here: Ravynmaniac's LJ

If you go all the way back to the beginning of my blog, Ravynesque, there is her baby photo.

i would LOVE to teach her to drive!!! She won't be ready to ride for a couple more years, but i can teach her other things in the meantime. Email me if you want to talk more horsie stuff so we don't drive everyone crazy **grins**

Kitty! WOW! Is that a hot model photo or what! And LaMies, post all the horsey stuff you want. This blog is for ALL OF US to hang out and talk. I mean where else can you talk about music, fashion, art, sewing, horses, paranormal activity, spiders, corsets and cute little rats? Just to name a few..........There is no such thing as posting too often. LaM is just a one stop Diva paradise! Hee hee

Thanks for the clip Ravyn, though I'm very glad I put the drink *down* before watching it, if you know what I mean.:) Lilly is a pretty mare..I've never seen a Thoroughbred/Percheron cross before and somehow I thought she'd be "cobby." And Ravynesque is gorgeous. She'd look awfully nice in front of one of those nice Amish-made carts.*grin*

Appleblossombeck, I used to have a white rat. They make sweet affectionate pets. Downsides? Short lifespan (only a few years) and they are VERY cancer-prone because so many have been bred for testing. Hope that helps without being TOO much of a downer..

Back to wading through the sewing..

Ow! Poor Daecabhir! I hope you took very good care riding in those tights, Ravyn, it would have been a pity to rip them on a buckle after all that...

Malena, um, this may be a weird question, but... could I e-mail you to pick your brains about makeup for getting photographed in? You're the only person I can think of to ask...

At 7:57 AM , Blogger Fabulous Lorraine said...

K! Of course you can ask me about make-up. I always tell Lorraine,
"75% of your make-up is washed away by the lighting" I put TONS of make-up on for my Alter Ego shoots, and when the photos come out it looks, "Natural". (In real life I looked like a street walker)
Use blush by puckering up your mouth, then put the blush under the cheekbone. Fake eye lashes are good too. I wish I were there to make you up. Balticon... he h heeeeee
email me anytime!

tuaregblue, Lilly is a great horse, i love her to death. She can be lazy at the trot, but, i love jumping her. And Ravynesque, i can't wait to see how she matures. She is much more delicately built than a normal percheron. i'm hoping to make an eventing horse out of her (on a small scale, i'm not talking Olympics here, hehe). Her movement is already effortless. Yeah i'm in love :-D

K, i was very careful in the tights. i was riding bareback, that helped a lot. i'll dig up the video and see if i can at least get a screen captiure to post.

Ravyn your baby is lovely, I remember looking at pics in your site a while back when you were at Lisa's sculpting a horse - a real beauty. I'll have to try to download the movie -but its doubtful to work on this computer. Hey did your hubby have a spider web on his legs after the airbrushing? I know from experience india ink is hard to get off the skin! What a guy! Kitty you have inspired me to try to post a pic too - tho today I am down with a nasty nasty flu (lost 5 lbs in a day, not recommended) and brain is functioning at a minimum - stay healthy everyone!

where is our LORRAINE in all this horse/rat/spider discussion!? is she STILL at the sewing machine?!

happy to say, i got my ticket for Balticon,
& thanks so much, Ravyn for all your great
info/help!!

I love reading about *all* of it. I'm not very crafty (hee! -- every summer for years, my mother tried to teach me to sew; it never took as I would be a crazed, frustrated, impatient loon before we even finished cutting out the pattern!!) nor do I have horses, but I really enjoy reading about all y'all's various activities. Thanks, Mrs. Teves, for being such a lovely hostess and letting us talk about ourselves! :-)

(ivenotime, so sorry to read that you're ill! hope you are much better soon -- and you must tell us about your artwork sometime! are you still making glass sculpture like that cool green Morpheus?)

Okay, Miss Kitty, where do you find Native American astrology, and which Native American tribe(s) uses it?
Just curious.

Personally, I'm a Metal Ox Sagittarius, born on a Wednesday.

ivenotime - yes.... he did end up with inkstained spiderwebs on his legs! Sorry to hear you're not feeling well, remember to rest rest rest!

kitty - i think Lorraine is a bit under the weather. Lisa said she wasn't feeling well. i owe you email. Tonight or tomorrow.

i'm Aries, born in the Chinese year of the Firehorse

Wow!
So much to respond to.
Kitty: Nice icon! Glad it worked!
Makeup: I'm doing a skin rejuvenating process using Obagi. After that my aethetician (sounds snitty doesn't it that I have an aesthetician? sounds fancier than it is really) is going to match me to a fabulous line of mineral makeup called Colorescience. it is supposed to be the best stuff.

Ravyn and I love to turn each other on... to beauty products. We buy eachother all sorts of nifty and wonderful oils and scrubs and what not. She is truly evil!!

Hmm...I didn't get to finish the homemade truffles tonight...perhaps tomorrow night. ::grin::
