We were in Marrakech, for a week - wonderful, but with huge contrasts - amazing buildings, souks (i think you could get lost for days... and buy anything you can imagine) The square is full of everything from snake charmers to witch doctors (and dentists, with displays of 2nd hand teeth...) - and where ever you go, if you pause for a second, there will be someone there trying to sell you something, or give you directions (whether or not you want them..)

And cats, everywhere. Especially in the restaurants.

We didn't have tiem to go to the desert or the mountains, so I amy have to go back sometime.

Menawhile, if you're interested, I have some photos up at http://picasaweb.google.com/TMarjorie1/MarrakechMorocco#

The drivers would put even Boss to shame in scary-ness. I guess adding camels, donkey carts and mopeds carrying entire families to the mix doesn't help. Plus it seems that people can (or at least, do) go whichever way round roundabouts they fancy.

We walked, most places..Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10610763.post-6164627267632700122008-09-20T13:06:00.000-07:002008-09-20T13:06:00.000-07:00I love that quote, Marjorie! I just got back from morocco and your poem in now tangled in my mind with one of the gardens we saw (orange trees and olives in sunken orchards, behind ruined walls...)

I'm dithering over my nightgarden piece - I think I shall let it seethe in my head overnight, and try to pluck up courage to mail it tomorrow.. meanwhile, I just came across this quote, which i thought I should share

'The dame of the night garden, Sackville-West - fonder of the night. "Much have I loved the night," she wrote, "drinking the deep nocturnal silences... Daylight despoiled me of detachment; day confused me through the senses and the heart; only with nightfall could I stand apart and view the shaping pattern of my way." ' It was quoted by Hazel Silver, in the Guardian newspaper (http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2008/aug/23/gardens1)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10610763.post-32680650881894121282008-09-19T22:18:00.000-07:002008-09-19T22:18:00.000-07:00We will go to sleep, and you will go to market, an...We will go to sleep, and you will go to market, and tomorrow will be another day of adventure...FabulousLorrainehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14889080113368458412noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10610763.post-37780739495377894112008-09-19T22:04:00.000-07:002008-09-19T22:04:00.000-07:00You go to bed (you too Lorraine) and I shall go to...You go to bed (you too Lorraine) and I shall go to the market.
Weather is nippy so I might actually wear Malena's jacket and the hat that Jess so likes.spacedlawhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12462723005560128474noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10610763.post-6122986455824247262008-09-19T22:02:00.000-07:002008-09-19T22:02:00.000-07:00As it is now the Witching hour I either need to go...As it is now the Witching hour I either need to go to bed or do some magic. It was a collaborative event between a local S.C.A. branch and a fantasy group that visited as the Faery Courts led by Oberon and Titania. The event token was a horseshoe nail. The feast was a pot luck. We were told to be careful of faery food. There was one dish that I remember very well, though I don't remember whether or not I ate any of it.
